The Special Task Force (STF), along with the District Special Branch of Bilaspur Police, recently nabbed a Bangladeshi national in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, who had been illegally residing in India for 19 years. The infiltrator, named Atiq Hussain, was arrested at a rented accommodation in Surya Vihar Colony in the Sarkanda Police Station area on September 24, 2026.
The 42-year-old had been working in an installation run by the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) Limited, a Maharatna Central Public Sector Undertaking (PSU). According to Rajnesh Singh, Bilaspur Senior Superintendent of Police, Hussain has been working at BECO Lifts Private Limited, which was associated with lift maintenance work at NTPC Sipat for nearly two decades, by forging documents.

Hussain, a resident of Narayanganj district of Bangladesh, came to Chennai in 2005 using valid documents to get medical treatment. However, he did not return to Bangladesh after receiving medical treatment and continued to reside in India unlawfully. Later in 2007, he moved to Bilaspur and started working at BECO Lifts Private Limited after forging documents.
A police raid at his rented accommodation revealed a bunch of forged documents, including an Indian Passport, Identification cards (Aadhaar card, PAN card, Voter ID), State & Civic records (Driving License, Domicile Certificate, Caste Certificate), and educational certification (Class 9 mark sheet).
During his employment at the installation, Hussain had access to sensitive industrial premises. “As his role involved elevator installation and maintenance across administrative and operational facilities, it afforded him long-term, unhindered physical access to the sensitive industrial premises,” the SSP added.
The police have initiated the process to deport Hussai. He is currently being held at a deportation centre in Raipur.
25 illegal Bangladeshi nationals arrested by Assam Police
In another police action in Assam, 25 illegal Bangladeshi nationals were arrested during separate operations in Guwahati. Confirming the arrest, DCP (Border) Kulandra Nath Deka said that two of them were arrested from the Saraighat Express. Police found forged Aadhaar cards in their possession. During interrogation, they revealed information about 10 other Bangladeshi nationals who were arrested from Bolton Bazar Sumo Stand.

Based on their disclosures during questioning, 15 other illegal Bangladeshi nationals were arrested with the help of RPF and CRPF personnel while travelling towards Jammu by train.
