ED attaches property of Maulana who kept drawing salary and pension from Akhilesh govt despite being a British citizen: Here is what happened

On Friday (2nd October), the Enforcement Directorate informed that it has attached a residential plot belonging to a madrassa teacher named Maulana Shamsul Huda Khan.

Khan, who had acquired British citizenship in December 2013, continued to draw salary, pension and other benefits from the Akhilesh Yadav -led Uttar Pradesh government despite relinquishing his Indian nationality.

According to the ED, the residential plot is spread over 189.75 square metres in Sant Kabir Nagar district and is worth ₹53.46 lakhs. The central agency attached it under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

Khan continued to operate as an assistant teacher at a government-aided madrasa in Azamgarh while withholding information about his British citizenship. He remained an employee from 2007 to 2017. Notably, Akhilesh Yadav was the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh from 2013 to 2017.

To make matters worse, his service was never verified, and yet he was allowed to take voluntary retirement in 2017 along with regular pension. This was uneathed during an inquiry by the Minority Welfare and Waqf Department.

It has come to light that the accused drew ₹53.46 lakh from the Uttar Pradesh government in the form of salary, pension and GPF. He had used his void Indian passport and documents such as Voter ID, PAN and Aadhaar to buy immovable properties in Sant Kabir Nagar.

As such, ED has attached his property of equivalent value. A case was registered in connection with the matter on 11th February 2026. Khan had close ties to several terrorist organisations in Pakistan and was spotted in meetings with such radical outfits
