A video from a public meeting of Vadgam Congress MLA Jignesh Mevani is going viral on social media, in which allegations have been made publicly against Mevani of taking ₹4 lakh and getting bogus votes cast.
The meeting was held in Tokariya village of Banaskantha and was attended mostly by members of the Muslim community. A video of a Muslim man raising complaints at the meeting is now going viral. Jignesh Mevani was also present at the meeting.
A man present at the meeting publicly stated that he had secured around 250 bogus votes to help Jignesh Mevani win. He also said that he had spoken to Mevani over the phone before the election.

In the video, the man can be heard highlighting, “On the last day, Jigneshbhai (Mevani) asked me how many votes we would get. I said we would get 400 votes. He said that would not be enough. I said we would find a way. We got 250 bogus votes cast for him.”
He then added that if anyone wants to record a video, they are free to do so and he has no objection.
Allegation of Taking ₹4 Lakh
Apart from the allegation of bogus voting during the election, Congress MLA Jignesh Mevani has also faced allegations of dubious financial dealings and corruption.
While raising complaints about roads and development works, the same Muslim man asserted that Mevani had taken ₹4 lakh from him in the name of giving him a ticket. He publicly said that he was even ready to swear on the Quran that the money had been given to the politician.

During the meeting, villagers also sought an account from Mevani of his last nine years as an MLA. Locals complained that no development work had been carried out in the village as promised during the election and that the grants were also not being utilised properly.
When villagers questioned him about roads and other basic facilities, Mevani gave excuses, alleging some works were pending due to administrative and procedural issues. He claimed that his job was only to raise the issues, while approving the works was the government’s responsibility.
On the allegation of taking ₹4 lakh, Mevani argued that he had taken money from a person associated with the Congress party, and not from the villagers. He added that the matter was between him and that person, and the villagers had nothing to do with it.
The videos of the meeting are now going viral on social media. People are also questioning the Congress party, asking what it has to say about the allegations of bogus voting when the party itself has been raising the issue of ‘vote chori.’ The Congress party has not given any statement on the matter so far.
