Ujjain: Mosque among other buildings demolished for the expansion of the Mahakaleshwar Temple corridor

The Ujjain district administration began demolishing permanent structures, including houses and a mosque in Nizammudin Colony, on Sunday to expand the Mahakaleshwar Temple Corridor Project.

As part of preparations for the 2028 Ujjain Simhastha, Rs 33 crore of a Rs 66 crore compensation package was paid to evicted residents. The cleared land will be used for parking expansion and a Pravachan Hall.

On the first day, around 50 structures, including Takia Masjid, were removed without major resistance. Heavy police presence ensured order, with prior announcements made on Saturday.

District Collector Neeraj Singh confirmed 257 structures were marked for removal, excluding 17-18 buildings under court stay. Bulldozers and poclain machines were used under the supervision of Additional Collector Anukul Jain and ASP Nitesh Bhargava, who cited police deployment to maintain law and order.
