A shocking incident from the Bijnor district of Uttar Pradesh has triggered tension in the area after a Sikh youth was brutally attacked on Tuesday, 23rd December, near a gurdwara by a Muslim mob.
The assault followed an argument over comments made during a discussion on historical figures inside the gurdwara. The victim suffered serious injuries, including damage to one eye, and is currently undergoing treatment at AIIMS in Delhi.
The incident took place in the Noorpur police station area of Bijnor. According to the victim’s family, Ramandeep Singh, a resident, was attacked with iron rods and sticks near the gurdwara. The assault left him critically injured, and his condition worsened due to severe injuries to his eye. He was first treated locally before being shifted to AIIMS Delhi for advanced medical care.
Family says attack was planned
Ramandeep’s uncle, Harvinder Singh Rinu, has made serious allegations regarding the incident. He said that on 23rd December, members of the Sikh community were holding a religious gathering at the Noorpur gurudwara, where historical topics were being discussed. During this discussion, remarks were allegedly made about Mughal ruler Aurangzeb.
According to the family, a man named Munna Qureshi, who was passing by at the time, objected to the discussion and got into a verbal argument. Later that day, when Ramandeep went towards the local market, Munna returned with his associates and attacked him. The attackers were reportedly armed with rods and sticks and beat Ramandeep mercilessly.
Police action and arrests
After the incident, a case has been registered by the Noorpur police, and an investigation is being conducted. According to police officials, both of the accused, Sahil and the minor, have been arrested and sent to jail. However, the main accused, Munna, son of Zulfikar arrested on Saturday, 27th December, and another associate is still on the run. Police teams are conducting raids to trace and arrest the absconding suspects.
