Muslim students gathered outside the office building in a pre-planned manner and began creating a ruckus. Many of them were members of the radical Islami Chhatra Shibir (ICS), the student wing of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami.
On Thursday (26th June), when the family members of the victim went to a local fair, the BNP leader seized the opportunity to break into his house and rape her at gunpoint.
According to reports, the extremists gathered outside the 'Sri Sri Durga Mandir' and gave an ultimatum to the Hindu devotees to remove the temple by 12 pm on Tuesday (24th June).
"Necessary steps must be taken to prevent looting of our valuables. I am making a heartfelt request to the government. The Hindu community is unable to bear the atrocities committed against it," a Hindu woman stated.
Soon after the establishment of Bangladesh, founding father Sheikh Mujibur Rahman banned the extremist outfit for siding with Pakistan and committing genocide against the Bengali population during the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War.
Muhammad Yunus, who came to power through a US-backed regime changed operation, tried to downplay the collective punishment meted out to the Hindu community by Muslim mobs as the result of 'anger and retaliation' and not 'targeted communal hostility.'
Following the murder of Tariqul Islam, Muslim mob ambushed Hindu homes in the village and set their houses and shops on fire. Visuals of destroyed homes belonging the persecuted minority community have now surfaced on social media.
