He is the third judge hailing from West Bengal to recuse himself from cases involving the TMC. Earlier Supreme Court judges Justice Aniruddha Bose and Justice Indira Banerjee had recused themselves.
“Mafia, dons, criminals and goons in police records led and triggered the violence against the supporters of a particular political party,” disclosed the committee.
Justice Bindal was transferred to the Calcutta High Court in January this year and appointed as the Acting Chief Justice of the Court on April 28, 2021.
West Bengal government had applied to the court to recall the order passed by the court while hearing a bunch of PILs alleging assault including sexual abuse during post-poll violence in the state.
