Amit Shah said, "CAA is not just for giving citizenship to people, it is also to give justice and rights to lakhs of people. Because of the appeasement politics of Congress and its allies, people seeking refuge did not get justice from 1947 to 2014."

Union Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla presented the certificates to the 14 people after their applications were processed online through a dedicated portal, according to an official spokesperson.

Granting citizenship to refugees is totally up to the Indian government and requires no recommendation, concern, or interference from the US government, Congress, or any of its bodies.

When the same country gave citizenship to so-called 'foreigners' in 1955, 1986, 1992, 2003 and 2005, it is inhuman and unconstitutional to oppose citizenship of six minority communities displaced due to extreme religious persecution for political reasons.

The Union Home Ministry has launched a mobile app named CAA-2019 to enable registering applications under the Citizenship Amendment Act.
