प्रोफेसर और अध्यक्ष के रूप में हिंदी एवं अन्य भारतीय भाषा विभाग, जम्मू केंद्रीय विश्वविद्यालय में कार्यरत हैं। साथ ही, विश्वविद्यालय के अधिष्ठाता, छात्र कल्याण का भी दायित्व निर्वहन कर रहे हैं। इससे पहले दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय के किरोड़ीमल कॉलेज में पढ़ाते थे। दो कार्यावधि के लिए दिल्ली विश्वविद्यालय की अकादमिक परिषद के निर्वाचित सदस्य रहे हैं। विभिन्न पत्र-पत्रिकाओं में सामाजिक-राजनीतिक और साहित्यिक विषयों पर नियमित लेखन करते हैं।
