Since 2021, West Bengal has been witnessing a new trend. It appears as if Mamata's open favouritism, preferential treatment and brazen appeasement have fallen short to placate the radical ideas of the Muslim community. As such, there is a growing interest in new and emerging parties whose ideology is 'political Islam.'
On 23rd March, Muslim organisations presented a joint representation to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, advocating Umar Khalid’s candidature, arguing that it would showcase the party’s commitment to ‘civil rights’ and address the issue of a lack of sufficient Muslim representation from Rajasthan in the Rajya Sabha.
The action came just hours after the Delhi High Court dismissed UNI’s plea challenging the cancellation of its land allotment. Soon after, the property was sealed by authorities, triggering a wider debate over press freedom and government action.
In reality, the incident did not take place in Assam as alleged by Congress spokesperson Reetam Singh. The clash instead occurred on 16th March in the Alipurduars district of West Bengal.
