According to the Police, the case has been filed against Shashi Tharoor based on a complaint lodged by BJP leader J R Padmakumar. The BJP leader accused Tharoor of carrying out a false campaign against Rajeev Chandrasekhar during a television program.

Rahul Gandhi alleged that Pinarayi Vijayan attacked him constantly throughout the campaign, and questioned why didn't Bhartiya Janata Party attacked him.

The police have also said that these offenses are linked to inciting hatred in connection with the ongoing Lok Sabha elections through various social media platforms.

While CPI(M) said Congress did not use its flags in Gandhi's roadshow because it was afraid of the BJP, the historic duplicity of the party suggest it may have to do with Muslim appeasement.
