Stone pelting

Additional Commissioner of Police Dnyaneshwar Chavan said that the Ganpati immersion procession was passing peacefully when it came under attack near the Hindustani Mosque.

T he local police have detained 10 people in connection to the stone pelting case so far. The suspects are now being questioned.

During Ganesh Visarjan procession, a firecracker allegedly fell on a Muslim-owned house. Following which, Hindus were attacked with a bucket and stones.

Some Hindu youths were taking out a procession for the immersion of the Bhagwan Ganesh idol in Badarikoppalu village. When the procession was about to cross a dargah on Mysuru Road, people from the Muslim community came and started a heated argument with the Hindu devotees. Following the altercation, members of the Muslim community allegedly pelted stones at the Ganesh idol and displayed lethal weapons.

Gujarat police arrested Maulana Ghulam Hussain Jafar, Asif Sumra Padhiyar, Sahil Ramzan, Hanif Jusan and three minors.

Vishal Hiralal Khalasi sells Lord Ganapati idols in the Soni Bazar area of Surat. Sheikh and Pathan visited the store with their two young children. Later, these two ladies began damaging Lord Ganesha's idols. They also incited their children to create a ruckus on the shop premises.

A Divya Bhaskar report says that these Muslim minors had on 6th September hurled water pouches at the Ganesh pandal, however, the Hindus did not retaliate. An unsuccessful stone pelting attempt was made on Saturday. On Sunday, the Muslim boys arrived on rickshaws and pelted stones at the Ganpati pandal. The police are now investigating the role of rickshaw pullers in the matter.

Cops were also assaulted by the culprits and their vehicle was vandalised by the latter during the Muharram procession.

Violence erupted in an unsanctioned 'victory procession' carried out by Congress MLA Qazi Nizamuddin in Manglaur as miscreants hurled stones at Hindu families.
