NIA arrested Mohammad Pappu and 15 others in Ram Navami attack case in Dalkhola, West Bengal

TMC leader Ajit Maity’s removal from the post was also confirmed by West Bengal Minister Partha Bhowmick who is on a visit to violence-hit Sandeshkhali.

The development was confirmed by a three-member team of the National Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST).

"No woman has raised the issue of assault... This is fake and it has been established today," said West Minister Partha Bhowmick after visiting Sandeshkhali

Taking cognizance of the reports of the murder and alleged rape of a minor tribal girl, NCW strongly condemned the worsening law and order situation in West Bengal. Taking to X, the commission urged immediate action, adding that NCW Chairperson Rekha Sharma has sent a letter to the DGP West Bengal demanding to invoke relevant provisions, ensure swift arrest of the accused, and submit a detailed report within 4 days.

Out of more than 700 complaints in Sandeshkhali, around 150 concerns with land grabbing-related accusations while around 70 were related to money and extortion.

A raft of protesters swarmed Trinamool Congress leader Ajit Maity's residence, vandalising motorcycle and accusing him of involvement in the land grab.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders were stopped from going to Sandeshkhali. BJP MP Locket Chatterjee was detained by a police team in Bhojerhat.
