Watch: Jharkhand Congress candidate brandishes a gun during a fight between his and BJP candidate supporters

The BJP is fighting on the 12 seats in the first round of polling while it is supporting an Independent candidate from Hussainabad. The opposition alliance comprising of JMM, Congress and RJD are contesting on four, six and three constituencies respectively.

In the Kosiyara village of Palamu in Jharkhand, Congress candidate KN Tripathi brandished a gun following a clash between the supporters of BJP candidate Alok Chaurasia and his supporters. Tripathi was allegedly stopped by the BJP supporters from going to polling booths. The first phase of polling for the Jharkhand Assembly election begins today.


The Congress candidate KN Tripathi was taken into custody for brandishing a gun but was later released. The Election Commission has ordered a probe into the matter.

Thirteen constituencies in six districts of Jharkhand will go to polls in the first phase of the Jharkhand Assembly election today. The polling that is distributed over five phases, will terminate on December 20 and the result for the same will be announced on December 23. The first phase will witness several constituencies including Naxal-affected areas, like Latehar, Lohardaga, Chatra, Gumla, Manika, Panki and Daltonganj.
