More trouble for Congress as reports suggest 13 Gujarat MLAs may quit the party and join BJP

Media reports also suggest that Rajasthan Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot may also quit the grand old party soon.

Hours after senior Congress leader Jyotiraditya Scindia quit Congress amidst rumours of joining the BJP, more troubles have mounted for the grand old party. As per media reports, the Congress MLAs in Gujarat also have revolted. As many as 13 Gujarat Congress MLAs are reportedly in talks with the BJP.

Citing party sources, Republic Bharat claimed that 13 Gujarat Congress MLAs are in touch with the BJP and may dump Congress to join BJP. TV9 Gujarati reported that for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections, Patidar and OBC leaders of Congress have being fighting amongst themselves. Gujarat Congress chief Paresh Dhanani, however, has denied the claims.

Soon after the news of Scindia quitting Congress along with 20 other rebel MLAs from Madhya Pradesh came out, Congress interim President Sonia Gandhi summoned Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot in Delhi. Rajasthan Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot had recently allegedly disagreed on nomination of influential diamond merchant to Rajya Sabha.

Pilot has also been critical of state government on certain issues. After Gehlot’s insensitive remark on the death of infants in Kota hospital, Pilot had slammed Gehlot. He had said that as Chief Minister he could not escape responsibility by blaming previous government.
