In a massive statewide crackdown, over 550 illegal immigrants from Bangladesh were detained in Ahmedabad and Surat for residing in India with forged documents, Gujarat police said on Saturday.
The state government clarified that the land in question is government-owned waste land, which was acquired for the construction of the highway under the provisions of the National Highways Act, 1956, as per the rules and after following due legal procedures.
"The petitioner was lying on his bed and watching the court proceedings as if he was enjoying a movie. Such conduct compromises the dignity and the decorum of the court, and therefore it cannot be tolerated," the court said.
