Tea stall owner, son of a govt employee, linked to hundreds of theft cases in various states, had gifted house worth over ₹3 crore to actor girlfriend

According to police, Panchakshari Sangayya Swamy has amassed wealth worth crores through his criminal activities. He is a womaniser and has spent a lot of money on women

Bengaluru Police recently arrested a tea shop owner linked to several burglaries in different parts of the country. The person identified as Panchakshari Sangayya Swamy, was nabbed by the Bengaluru police last month on 9th January in connection with the theft of gold and silver worth Rs 14 lakh from a house in Madiwala, Karnataka. The police reportedly identified Swamy after examining the CCTV footage from over 200 CCTV cameras. The police seized gold and silver materials from Swamy.

As per reports, 37-year-old Swamy who is a native of Solapur, Maharashtra, is married and has a child. In 2016, he gifted a house worth Rs 3 crore and a Rs 22 lakh aquarium to his actress girlfriend who lives in Kolkata. The same year, the Gujarat police arrested Swamy and he spent a 6-year jail term in Sabarmati Central Jail, Ahmedabad. However, this did not stop him from continuing his criminal activities. He was arrested again by the Maharashtra police in a case of burglary. After being released in 2024, he moved to Bengaluru.

Swamy holds a black belt in Karate

Swamy’s connection with criminal activities began when he was a minor. As per the police, there was a case filed against Swamy in Belagavi in 2003 when he was a minor. His father worked in the Indian Railways. After he passed away, Swamy’s mother took over the job. However, Swami did not take up a regular job and instead got deeply involved in criminal activities.

According to police, Swamy has amassed wealth worth crores through his criminal activities. During 2014-15, he got involved with his Kolkata-based girlfriend and started spending huge amounts of money earned through thefts on her. “He is a womaniser and has spent a lot of money on women. He has a wife and a child but has gifted a house valued at Rs 3 crore to his girlfriend in Kolkata. Most of the time he operates alone. watching empty houses and targeting them easily. He also holds a black belt in Karate and has links with some actresses,” a police officer reportedly said.

Swamy has a unique modus operandi

Swamy who has hundreds of burglary cases registered in different states including Rajasthan, Telangana and Maharashtra, used to target locked houses. His modus operandi included changing his clothes immediately after committing a theft to avoid being identified. However, he lives in a 400 sq ft house registered in his mother’s name, which is under a bank loan default and has been put up for sale.
