Setback to Congress: four suspended Bihar Congress leaders join JDU

In a major setback to Congress, four suspended Bihar Congress leaders have today bid goodbye to the Congress and joined Nitish Kumar led Janata Dal (United).

Ashok Choudhary, former Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee President, who was sacked from his post last September, had claimed his expulsion as an insult to Dalits. This whole expulsion episode was seen to be a result of allegations against him and the leaders of his faction, that they made an unsuccessful bid to split the party, after Nitish Kumar walked out of the Mahagathbandhan in Bihar.

Choudhary, who was reported to be leading the rebel faction, was appointed to the post on March 30, 2013 and was the longest serving president of the state Congress before being sacked last year.

The Bharatiya Janata Party has been in power in this country for 10 years, forming a government with full majority both times. If the BJP intended to abolish reservations, it would have done so already. Narendra Modi has assured all Dalits, backward classes, and tribal sisters and brothers across the nation that as long as the BJP is in power, no one will touch reservations.”
