Punjab records 2000 stubble burning incidents in single a day, govt orders FIR against farmers

On Wednesday (8th November), farm fire incidents in Punjab crossed the mark of 2000 in a single day. The alarming numbers were recorded a day after the Supreme Court directed the state government to ensure the stopping of crop stubble burning “forthwith”.

Meanwhile, the Punjab government has instructed the police and civil administration to register FIR and take strict action against farmers burning crop residue.

Punjab DGP Gaurav Yadav directed the police officers to work in collusion with the civil administration to prevent stubble burning. DGP Yadav also appointed Special DGP (Law and Order) Arpit Shukla as the police nodal officer to monitor action against stubble burning.

Following the directions of the Supreme Court, Chief Secretary Anurag Verma has asked District Magistrates and CPs/SSPs to jointly hold a review meeting on the issue daily after receiving the data on farm fires.

During this meeting, it was decided that village-wise situation of stubble burning will be reviewed. If any stubble-burning incident is found to have taken place in the jurisdiction of any SHO, prompt disciplinary action will be taken against him.

Reportedly, 12 instructions have been issued. Police patrol parties, under the direct leadership of the area SHO, will work to put an end to the stubble burning swiftly. Cluster teams, formed earlier by the District Collectors in each district, have been urged to communicate with police and civil administration teams. Each district will now be divided into sectors, with a gazetted police officer in command of each. The District Magistrate and SSP have been ordered to make regular field inspections. Moreover, Collectors and SSPs have also been directed to use alternate solutions for in-situ and ex-situ stubble management.

According to data collected by the Punjab Remote Sensing Centre in Ludhiana, the overall number of farm fires in Punjab has risen to 22,981, with 2,003 new incidents reported on Wednesday.

The data of 2003 fresh incidents states that Sangrur continued to lead in rankings with 466 stubble-burning incidences, followed by 221 in Bathinda, 216 in Barnala, 150 in Faridkot, 131 in Mansa, 106 in Patiala, 103 in Ferozepur, and 96 in Ludhiana.

With the highest number of stubble-burning cases—4,070—among the 22,981 farm fires reported between September 15 and November 8, Sangrur is in the top spot. It is followed by 2,176 in Ferozepur, 1,888 in Tarn Taran, 1,719 in Mansa, 1,524 in Patiala, 1,454 in Amritsar, 1,436 in Bathinda, 1,129 in Barnala, 1,089 in Ludhiana and 1,014 in Faridkot.

In a joint operation, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and Assam Police picked up 47 people on Wednesday who allegedly acted as middlemen for facilitating Rohingyas to enter India illegally, said Assam Police.

“After meticulous planning, a country-wide operation was launched by the NIA and Assam Police during the wee hours of November 8, in association with various state police forces. In the operation, so far, a total of 47 touts and middlemen have been picked up,” said Harmeet Singh, Special DGP, Assam.

Among those who have been picked up, 25 are from Tripura, five from Assam, three from West Bengal, nine from Karnataka, one each from Haryana and Telangana, and three from Tamil Nadu, said the police officer.

According to the Assam Police, in the month of February 2023, a group of Rohingyas were detected on a train coming from Tripura at Karimganj Railway Station by the Karimganj Police. After thorough investigation, it came to light that illegal Rohingyas and infiltrators were entering India through the Indo-Bangladesh border.

After the incident, Assam Police increased the vigil and operations, resulting in 450 illegal migrants (Rohingyas and Bangladeshis) being stopped and turned back with the assistance of the Border Guarding Forces.

During the course of inquiries and questioning, it was ascertained that the illegal migrants were facilitated in entering India illegally by middlemen, who have been playing a major role in the infiltration, said the police.

During the investigation, it was also found that the middlemen exist not only on both sides of the Indo-Bangladesh border but also on the mainland. Thus, the police began an operation to root out the network of middlemen.

According to the police, the Special Task Force (STF) of Assam launched the operation in July 2023 and was able to arrest 10 such touts or middlemen.

The police said that further investigation revealed that the network of middlemen existed across India, which was a serious national security concern with inter-state ramifications.

Therefore, the government of Assam requested the MHA, Government of India, to transfer one of the cases to the National Investigation Agency (NIA), given the fact that Assam was being used as a corridor for this anti-national activity.

Accordingly, the NIA took up the case through an investigation and a collaborative effort with the Assam Police.

NIA & Assam Police collated the list of Touts who were involved in this nefarious crime, said the police.

Mahadev Book betting app scam: Mumbai police register FIR against 32 people including promoters for ‘fraud’ of Rs 15,000 crore

On 8th November (Wednesday), officials of the Mumbai Police announced that they had registered an FIR against 32 people, including the “promoter” of the ‘Mahadev Book’ betting app. They have been booked for allegedly committing fraud of nearly Rs 15,000 crore. As per media reports, some of the accused are based out of Dubai, London, Chhattisgarh, Punjab, West Bengal, and Gujarat. 

The first information report (FIR) was registered on Tuesday against “app promoter Saurabh Chandrakar”, and key accused Ravi Uppal and Shubham Soni, and others for committing the fraud since 2019 until now, as per the Matunga police official. 

The officials said that the case was registered on the direction of the 30th Kurla court under Indian Penal Code sections 420 (cheating), 120-B (conspiracy), IT Act (for cyber-terrorism), and the Gambling Act. According to the FIR, the accused have defrauded people to the tune of Rs 15,000 crore.

As per the police complaint, the app’s promoters and other accused broadcast advertisements across different social media platforms, encouraging people to participate in betting on a variety of games, including cricket, football, tennis, casino games, and teen patti.

The Police sources said that the accused made wrongful gains from the business and invested huge money in hotels, properties, and in other businesses in India and abroad. 

The cyber fraud had allegedly been committed between January 2019 and November 2023, police said. 

Major developments so far in the alleged Mahadev Book Betting app scam

On 5th November (Sunday), the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) issued orders to block 22 illegal betting apps and websites, including Mahadev Book which allegedly has links with the D-company. 

Prior to that, on 3rd November, ED revealed that regular payments have been made by Mahadev Book App Promoters to Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel and so far around Rs 508 crore has been paid. 

Meanwhile, around 34 Bollywood celebrities including actors, singers, dancers, etc had been under the Enforcement Directorate (ED) scanner in the Mahadev Betting scam case. Click here, to read the names of all these celebrities who are under the ED scanner in this case. 

According to the ED, several Bollywood celebrities including singers, dancers, and actors attended the 200-crore wedding ceremony of the scam-accused owner of Mahadev Betting App, Saurabh Chandrakar. The wedding took place in UAE in February 2023.

Further, the anti-money laundering agency has already arrested four accused persons, seized proceeds of crime worth more than Rs 450 crore, and filed a prosecution complaint against 14 accused persons. The ED findings also revealed that the promoters of the Mahadev Betting app had links with Dawood Ibrahim’s D-company.

Assam police on Wednesday (8 November) said that a total of 47 middlemen or touts were apprehended from the entire country for their role in the illegal immigration of Rohingyas and Bangladeshis into India. They were caught from various states and taken into custody in a nationwide operation conducted by the Assam Police and the National Investigation Agency (NIA).

Addressing a press conference in Guwahati, Special Director General of Police (Admn./Border) Harmeet Singh said that an operation was launched to nab the facilitators of illegal immigration after a group of Rohingyas travelling from Tripura to Assam were caught in February this year. Following this, police increased the vigil along the Indo-Bangladesh border and thwarted the attempt of over 450 illegal Bangladeshis and Rohingyas to enter India with the help of the Border Security Force (BSF).

The 47 touts were arrested early morning today in raids conducted simultaneously in several states by Assam Police and NIA. 25 people from Tripura, 9 from Karnataka, 5 from Assam, 3 from each of West Bengal and Tamil Nadu and 1 from each of Haryana and Telangana have been taken into custody thus far. A special flight has been used to transport the arrested middlemen to Guwahati.

Harmeet Singh said, “Noticed a group of Rohingyas who were travelling in a train from Tripura and had entered Assam. 450 such illegal infiltrators were stopped and turned back with the help of border guarding forces. There was an operation launched by STF (Special Task Force) Assam in July.”

He pointed out that it became very evident after questions and investigations that this is an issue with implications for interstate relations and national security and noted that Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma played a key role in the operation. “From day one the matter has been looked at and guided by our Chief Minister and the highest formations of the land were wise to decide that the case be sent to NIA and the Government of Assam requested the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India to transfer one of these cases to the NIA. The NIA took up the case and began an investigation.”

The senior official highlighted, “There’s been a collaborative effort of the NIA with us and in this collaborative effort, we were able to put together a list of touts from across the country. Today morning in the wee hours an operation was launched across many states by the NIA with the Assam Police and a total of 47 such touts and middlemen who were running this racket have been caught.”

He proclaimed that the NIA received assistance from the Assam Police teams and all operations were run in association with the local state police at different places. “Our teams are physically on the ground in Assam, Tripura and in Northern India. Assam Police has 17 teams on the ground.”

The procedure started in February of this year, according to Assam Police sources when a group of Rohingyas were discovered at the Karimganj Railway Station in Assam while travelling illegally by train. Afterwards, police stepped up their surveillance along the Bangladesh-India border and with the assistance of the Border Security Force (BSF) prevented over 450 illegal Bangladeshis and Rohingyas from seeking to enter India.

It was discovered that a vast network of touts or middlemen was aiding the admission of Rohingyas and Bangladeshis into India illegally throughout the course of this operation and the questioning of various illegals. Ten intermediaries were first captured by the Special Task Force (STF) of the Assam Police.

However, when it became clear that the system was dispersed throughout India, the NIA and the Assam Police worked together to pursue the case. Following careful planning, the NIA and Assam Police along with other State Police Forces launched a national operation in the wee hours of 8 November and nabbed 47 touts till now.

IIT-Bombay student files police complaint against professor for inviting radical leftist Sudhanva Deshpande who allegedly glorified Palestinian terrorists in his talk

After the last-minute cancellation of a talk by controversial pro-Hamas Professor-turned-activist Achin Vanaik on Israel-Palestine after protests by students, IIT Bombay is facing another controversy over a similar issue. A student of the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT-B) has filed a police complaint for allegedly extending an invitation to another pro-Hamas activist to give a talk at the institute, Republic World reported on Wednesday (8th November).

According to the media report, a student of IIT Bombay named Omkar Supekar is a witness and complainant. Supekar has reportedly filed a complaint seeking action against Professor Sharmishtha Saha. It is alleged that Prof Shah invited Sudhanva Deshpande to conduct the lecture. Notably, Deshpande is an actor/director associated with Jana Natya Manch and is seen as a radical leftist. 

It is alleged that Deshpande supported Hamas and terrorists during the talk. Highlighting this, the complainant has sought action against him. 

The lecture reportedly was given on Monday (6th November 6), when incidentally the Vice President of India was also invited to a separate lecture in the institute.

According to the allegations levelled by students, Sudhanva was intentionally invited the day when Vice President Jagdeep Dhankar’s lecture was already scheduled. 

Supekar said, “She (Prof Sharmishtha Saha) organised a documentary and she invited the person Sudhanva Deshpande as a guest speaker to talk about the documentary. He started his speech with a one-sided narrative and glorified the acts of the militants of Palestine. In fact, he called one of the Palestine militants Zakaria Zubeidi a legend. Further, he also mentioned the name of Ghassan Kanafani and he called upon the need to fight a war and we need arms, in a way supporting the violent battle and the armed rebellion.”

As per reports, Zakaria Zubeidi, whom Sudhanva has glorified as a ‘visionary’, is part of Al-Aqsa’s martyrs brigade specialising in suicide bombings and he took responsibility for a terror attack that took place in Israel in 2002. 

According to an X (formerly Twitter), handle claimed to be operated by a group of IIT-B students ‘IIT B for Bharat’, Prof Sharmishtha Saha (Dept HSS) invited radical leftist Sudhanv Deshpande to eulogise Palestinian militants Zakaria Zubeidi, Ghassan Kanafani in the guise of the documentary when Vice President of India visited IIT Bombay and cautioned students to not to fall prey to the anti-Bharat narrative.

The handle added that Prof Saha of IIT Bombay invited Sudhanva Deshpande under the pretext of the Course ‘Performance Theory & Praxis’. Deshpande admits to having met Palestinian militant Zakaria Zubeidi in 2015. He further defends violence & armed rebellion. Zubeidi’s al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades took responsibility for the Nov 2002 terrorist attack in Bet She’an in which 6 civilians died, the handle claimed to be operated by students of the institute noted.

The post read, “The documentary was used as a tool to invite Ultra Leftist Sudhanva Deshpande for talks. On the pretext of course (HS 835Performance Theory & Praxis), he unabashedly glorified the terrorist activities of Zakaria Zubeidi, and Ghassan Kanafani while conveniently forgetting the latest Hamas attack.” 

It is important to note that on 7th November, the IIT Bombay announced the cancellation of a talk that was slated to be held earlier on Monday but was postponed to Tuesday. The proposed talk which now stands cancelled would have been given by the controversial Professor-turned-activist Achin Vanaik who recently courtesy controversy for his pro-Hamas and anti-Hindu remarks in the garb of giving a lecture on ‘Israel-Palestine conflict and its history’.

IIT-Bombay cancels talk by Former DU Professor-turned-activist Achin Vanaik after students protest in wake of his pro-Hamas and anti-Hindu remarks  

On 7th November (Tuesday), the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay officially communicated that they had cancelled the proposed talk by controversial Professor-turned-activist Achin Vanaik. The proposed lecture was initially planned to be held on Monday evening, but IIT-B authorities said that they have postponed it to Tuesday. 

However, on Tuesday (7 November), the Department of Humanities and Social Science sent e-mails to students announcing the cancellation of the proposed talk citing “unforeseen circumstances”. The email which has gone viral on the internet stated, ‘Due to unforeseen circumstances, we have had to cancel Professor Vanaik’s lecture. Any inconvenience caused is regretted.’

Vanaik who is a retired professor of international relations and former head of the Department of Political Science at the University of Delhi, took to activism and is controversial for his pro-Hamas and anti-Hindu stand. In the event, which now stands cancelled, he was expected to talk about the ‘history of the Israel-Palestine conflict’. 

Notably, in the wake of Vanaik’s recent remarks, a group of IIT-B students had opposed the talk and requested the authorities via email to cancel his talk. Through the email, the students also asked the IIT-B authorities to set up strict policies that would “bar the occurrence of such events in the future.” The students also highlighted some of the controversial remarks that Prof. Vanaik made a few weeks earlier including those glorifying suicide bombers.

For cancelling his talk, the students cited the professor’s address at the OP Jindal University which was given on 1st November and had gone viral. The mail read, “As a concerned member of the student fraternity feel compelled to raise several issues after hearing about this event. The speaker is a controversial person who delivered a talk at OP Jindal University on November 1, 2023. He is infamously known for making anti-religious (especially anti-Hindu) and antisemitic comments openly on stage and polarise (sic) the minds of students. Added to that he has also made anti-army statements and expressed solidarity with suicide bombers.” 

Expressing disappointment that the talk was cancelled, Vanaik claimed that his earlier remarks were taken out of context. He said, “It is a very important issue and a tragedy of our time. It is disturbing that IIT Bombay cancelled the talk upon students’ demand. My views presented in the earlier talk seem to have been distorted.”

Controversial remarks made during one such lecture during an event at OP Jindal Global University

On 1st November, OP Jindal Global University organised a talk titled ‘The History and Politics of the Palestinian Present’ by Professor Achin Vanaik who is now an activist. Several video clips of the professor’s lecture had surfaced online, which showed that in the name of solidarity with Palestinian civilians in Gaza, he made several antisemitic and anti-Hindu comments. He also attacked the Modi government over India’s stand on the conflict.

He claimed that Hindus are inherently Islamophobic, but Jews are not. During his lecture, Professor Vanaik said that although Zionism and Hinduism are similar, they are not the same in terms of their relationship with Islam. In the viral video, he could be heard saying, “Zionism is not anti-Muslim, it is anti-Palestinian, but it is happy to piggyback on current Islamophobia. Hindutva is fundamentally and foundationally anti-Muslim”.

He also claimed that the assertion that Hindus are original inhabitants of India and Hinduism is among the oldest civilisations is wrong. At the event, Professor Vanaik also glorified suicide bombing, a very effective tool for Islamic Jihadi terrorists. He said, ‘Understand onpe thing about suicide bombing, suicide bombing expresses above all the determination of not to kill so much as the determination to die.’

Seemingly referring to Israeli action against Hamas as terrorism, he lamented that it is selectively said that ‘killing our soldiers is terrorism but killing their soldiers is not terrorism.’ He gave the example of the Pulwama terror attack, claiming that while it is called terrorism, some other similar attacks are not called terrorism. He was referring to Israel’s operation against Hamas in Gaza.

Malaysia: Kuantan High Court dismisses Orang Asli woman’s plea to renounce Islam and return to her tribe’s way of life, was converted by her mother

A request of an Orang Asli woman to renounce her conversion to Islam and adhere to her tribe’s way of life was denied by Malaysia’s Kuantan High Court. Orang Asli is a heterogeneous indigenous population forming a national minority in Malaysia. They are the oldest inhabitants of Peninsular Malaysia. The 30-year-old member of the Jakun tribe said that when she was just two years old her mother converted her to the Abrahamic religion, and now she wants to leave Islam as she is not following the faith.

She asserted that when her mother recorded her conversion she was a baby and did not pronounce the “Kalima Shahadah” (declaration of faith). She was born into an unmarried couple on 27 November 1993. Her Orang Asli mother converted to Islam in November 1995, and she also converted the then-year-old girl along with her. The Pahang Religious and Malay Customs Council (MUIP) issued an Islamic conversion certificate to her mother on 4 November 1995. Her father is a Muslim.

It is notable that Orang Asli means “native people”, “original people”, or “aboriginal people” in Malay language, and they are an indigenous population who are now a minority in Malaysia, accounting for just 0.7% of the population in the country.

According to Justice Zainal Azman Ab Aziz, the plaintiff’s primary objective was to reject Islam which is outside the purview of civil courts. He proclaimed, “The subject matter (of the suit) falls under the exclusive jurisdiction of the sharia court.” She had been raised as a Muslim and in compliance with Islamic principles by her converted mother, the court decided, based on the evidence provided during the trial.

Furthermore, the court mentioned the Pahang Islamic Family Law Enactment which stipulates that children adopt the faith of the parent with legal custody. The judge declared that because the woman was brought up by her mother, she was obligated to follow her religious beliefs.

“Thus, the court ruled that the plaintiff is a Muslim as defined under Section 2(1)(d) of the Administration of Islamic Law Enactment 1991 (Pahang) read together with Section 103 of the same enactment as well as Section 86 of the Islamic Family Law Enactment 2005. The issue of consent from the plaintiff’s parents is not relevant because her father is a Muslim and she is under the custody of her mother who is also a Muslim.”

The judge decided that the case’s circumstances did not warrant consideration of either parent’s consent and stated that the issue ought to be separated from the Federal Court’s decision in the case of M. Indira Gandhi, whose children were forcibly converted by her spouse.

He noted, “In Indira’s case, she and her former husband registered their marriage under civil law but he converted the three children to Islam. In cases where one of the parents is not a Muslim, consent is needed. But for this case, the plaintiff (woman) was raised by her mother alone.”

The petitioner argued that her parents never agreed to their daughter’s conversion, although she received an Islamic name and has Islam listed as her status in her MyKad. She contended that she regularly observed the Jakun tribe’s traditions and values. However, the judge remarked, “The plaintiff has failed to provide any evidence that she was raised in accordance with the customs and beliefs of the indigenous people.”

He added, “Therefore, the plaintiff’s application, which pertains to her request to leave the Islamic faith, falls within the jurisdiction of the Sharia Court. The Sharia Court has full jurisdiction in cases related to renunciation, and as such, this court has no jurisdiction to decide on the reliefs sought by the plaintiff.”

In 2021, the Malaysian Court of Appeal (COA) upheld the ruling of the Kuala Lumpur High Court over the conversion of two minor children by their mother without the father’s consent. The High Court invalidated the conversion of two juvenile children from Buddhism to Islam in an order rendered five years ago. 

The Federal Constitution’s definition of “parent” in a religious conversion case refers to both parents, not simply one of them, as the court once again clarified. COA cited the historic Federal Court verdict in the M. Indira Gandhi case in which the highest court pronounced that a father’s unilateral choice to convert his children to Islam was illegal.

The three-judge bench declared, “We are of the opinion that the High Court judge and this Court of Appeal bench are bound by the Federal Court decision in the M Indira Gandhi case. There is no appealable error in this matter. We find there is no merit in the appeal. The decision of the High Court judge is affirmed.”

The Uttar Pradesh Police’s ‘Anti-Terrorism Branch’ (ATS) has apprehended another terrorist with ISIS ideology from Durg, Chhattisgarh. The name of the terrorist who has been arrested is Waziuddin. He has been pursuing Ph.D. at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) in Uttar Pradesh. On Tuesday (7th November), the ATS apprehended him from Durg, Chhattisgarh. Later, the terrorist was moved to Lucknow on transit remand.

According to information obtained by OpIndia from police sources, the arrested terrorist Waziuddin is originally from Durg in Chhattisgarh. He was pursuing his PhD at AMU. Waziuddin used to teach social science subjects (history, geography, and civics) to his junior students including Hindu students in Aligarh. He was known as ‘Ameer’ by those who embraced his ideology. The word Amir is considered the title of a king among Muslims. Waziuddin has been described as a self-radicalized terrorist.

ATS discovered inflammatory and terrorist literature on Waziuddin’s phone. He is currently being taken from Durg to Lucknow on transit remand. Attempts will be made to present him in court and obtain his remand. ATS also arrested AMU associates Abdullah Arshlan and Maaz bin Tariq earlier this week. Both are said to be self-radicalized and inspired by ISIS ideology. Waziuddin, Abdullah Arshlan, and Maaz Bin Tariq are also connected to the Pune ISIS network.

The most shocking component of the entire scenario is that two different terrorists apprehended at Aligarh Muslim University in the last two months were married to Hindu girls. Terrorist Shahnawaz, who was apprehended by Delhi Police’s Special Cell in October, married a Hindu girl in 2021. Shahnawaz’s wife was earlier known as Basanti Patel, who became Khadija Mariam after marriage.

Likewise, terrorist Abdullah Arslan, who was apprehended in the first week of November 2023, married a Hindu girl. The wife of Abdullah Arsalan is from Hathras. Bihar: Complaint filed against Bihar CM Nitish Kumar in Muzaffarpur over his contentious remarks recommending ‘coitus interruptus’ for birth control

On 8th November (Wednesday), a complaint was lodged against Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in a Muzaffarpur court over his contentious remarks on population control made a day earlier, triggering a massive outrage. A lawyer named Anil Kumar Singh has filed the complaint before the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate in Muzaffarpur and the matter is listed to be heard on 25th November. 

Speaking with India Today, Lawyer Anil Kumar Singh said that while he was in his chamber, he saw on social media that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had made inappropriate remarks regarding boys and girls. He said, “As a result, a complaint has been filed against him today in the Muzaffarpur District Court. The date for the hearing has been set for November 25.” 

Notably, Bihar CM made the contentious remarks yesterday on 7th November while addressing the state legislative assembly. After tabling the detailed report of the caste census conducted in the state, he made controversial remarks that created an uproar in the assembly.

To lay emphasis on female literature in controlling the population, the CM suggested that if the women are educated, they will ask their male partners to use the withdrawal method while having sex. He claimed that as the women are not uneducated, they are not aware of this method and therefore getting pregnant. He said, “When men and women get married, the men’ do it’ every night, especially in winter. If the girl is educated, she will not let him ejaculate inside. She will make him ejaculate outside. So eventually, the population will come down.”

He went further in using unparliamentary language and vulgar gestures to explain his position while addressing the legislative council. 

When the JDU leader made these remarks in the Bihar Assembly, most of the ruling party MLAs were laughing while the women MLAs felt embarrassed. However, several opposition leaders and woman MLAs strongly objected to his remarks and demanded that he apologise and resign from his Chief Ministerial post. 

However, amid widespread criticism, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav came out in support of Nitish Kumar’s controversial remarks on population control. He said, “It is wrong to misinterpret (CM’s remarks). His statement was regarding sex education, which people feel shy and hesitant to talk about. Biology is taught in schools. What he meant to say was about how to control the population.” 

In his first response to the controversy, PM Modi lashed out at the I.N.D.I. Alliance leader Nitish Kumar over his derogatory remarks against women in relation to population control. He stressed that crass words were uttered in the Bihar assembly and there was “no shame”. However, while addressing an election rally, PM Modi did not name Nitish Kumar, he referred to his remarks made a day earlier. 

Meanwhile, when the controversy escalated, Bihar CM Nitish Kumar came out in public pretending to apologise for his vulgar remarks given inside the assembly. Speaking to the media, he said, “I said something in the Assembly, and there is so much criticism over it. If what I said was wrong, I apologise for it. I take back my words. If someone is criticising me, I take back my words and apologise for it. If someone keeps criticising it, I facilitate them.”

It is notable that the withdrawal method or coitus interruptus is the least effective method of birth control, and is not recommended. The government of India have been promoting other methods such as condoms, pills, intrauterine device (copper-T), sterilisation etc as reliable methods of family planning for several decades.

Gautam Adani, Chairman of the Adani Group, met Bhutan king Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck in Mumbai today. The billionaire shared an image on X to inform about meeting with the King of Bhutan. Sharing brief details about the meeting, Adani wrote that it was an honour to meet His Majesty King of Bhutan and hear his vision of ‘Kingdom of Happiness’.

Adani added that the King’s thoughts on aspirational Bhutan are inspiring. He said that they are excited to explore opportunities for the Adani Group to contribute to green infrastructure development for Bhutan.

“It was truly an honour to meet His Majesty King of Bhutan Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck. It was nice to hear his vision of his Kingdom of Happiness. His thoughts on the aspirational Bhutan are indeed inspiring. We are excited to explore opportunities for the Adani Group to contribute to green infrastructure development for one of our happy and warm neighbours,” Adani wrote on X.

The Bhutan King is on an eight-day visit to India which he began from Assam. He met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi on 6th November. After that, he visited Mumbai where he met CM Eknath Shinde yesterday.

Talking about the meeting with the king, PM Modi took to X and wrote, “Pleasure to welcome His Majesty the King of Bhutan, Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuk to India. We had very warm and positive discussions on various facets of the unique and exemplary India-Bhutan relationship. Deeply value His Majesty’s vision for the development and well-being of the friendly people of Bhutan.”

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met the Bhutan King on 5th November. He said that India supports the vision of sustainable transformation of Bhutan under His Majesty’s guidance.

The Bhutan King’s visit to India reflects the strengthening geopolitical ties between the two Asian countries, both of which share borders with China. India’s attempts to solidify strategic partnership with Bhutan are crucial in the wake of attempts between China and Bhutan to resolve an impending boundary dispute, which the communist country could likely to use to the advantage of its aggressive expansionist approach.

On 7th November, India and Bhutan agreed on the final location survey of the first cross-border rail link between the two countries. The development came after the King’s meeting with PM Modi. Meanwhile, India is aiding several projects in Bhutan.

A statement released on the meeting between PM Modi and Bhutan King’s read, “”In his interaction with His Majesty, the prime minister reaffirmed India’s abiding commitment to its unique ties of friendship and cooperation with Bhutan and reiterated continued and full support to the socio-economic development in Bhutan based on the priorities of the Royal Government and as per the vision of His Majesty.”

Moreover, both countries reportedly agreed to further expand bilateral cooperation on trade, technology, cross-border connectivity, mutual investments, education and people-to-people connections. The two sides also agreed to consider establishing rail-link between Banarhat (West Bengal) and Samtse (Bhutan).
