Espionage, electoral interference, and disinformation campaign against Conservatives: Here is how China is undermining Canada’s sovereignty

The Canadian government and the Communist Party of China (CPC) are at loggerheads over the latter’s alleged interference in the political affairs and electoral practices of the former.

The growing tension between the two countries became apparent during an ‘unpleasant’ encounter between Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Chinese Premier Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the recently concluded G-20 summit.

“If you are sincere, we should communicate with each other in a respectful manner. Otherwise, it will be hard to say what the result will be,” Xi reprimanded Trudeau for allegedly leaking information to the media about their meeting that took place on November 15 this year.

Much to the disdain of the Chinese Premier, Trudeau defended, “In Canada, we believe in free and open and frank dialogue and that is what we will continue to have…”

Diplomatic relations between China and Canada have been going through a rough patch since 2018. Following the arrest of Huawei CFO Meng Wanzhou by Canadian authorities, the Chinese government held Canadian diplomats Michael Spavor and Michael Kovrig hostage over ‘espionage charges.’

In a major blow to bilateral ties, Canada shelved its ambitious ‘free-trade agreement’ with China in September 2020. The then Foreign Minister,  François-Philippe Champagne, had justified the move by citing the Communist nation’s coercive diplomacy.

“The China of 2020 is not the China of 2016. All the initiatives and the policies that had been put in place at the time – all that need to be reviewed. We’re looking at all of them with the lens of China of 2020,” he had said.

In April last year, Canada issued a strong statement condemning the brutal crackdown on pro-democracy protests in Hong Kong by China and further ruffled the feathers of the Chinese Communist Party.

While the safe return of the two Michaels to Canada provided some much-needed respite in September 2021, things went downhill again over allegations of election interference.

Allegations of interference in Canadian elections

On November 7, 2022, Canadian media outlet Global News published an article alleging that the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) had briefed Justin Trudeau about covert funding to 11 federal candidates in the 2019 elections.

“The Chinese Communist Party…is using all elements of state power to carry out activities that are a direct threat to our national security and sovereignty,” CSIS told Global News.

The news outlet further informed that the candidates who received funding from CCP belonged to both the ruling Liberal party and the Opposition Conservative Party.

Earlier in 2011, a Conservative MP named Bob Dechert came under the scanner over his relationship with a Xinhua News reporter, Shi Rong. A former Chinese spy Li Fengzhi informed that the “act of striking up a relationship with an elected official fits the modus operandi of Chinese spies”.

It is also believed that the interference of the Chinese deep State in the federal elections of 2021 led to the defeat of the Conservative camp. An analysis by Rapid Response Mechanism Canada found that CCP supporters floated conspiracy theories that Canada will cut all ties to China if Conservatives are elected to power.

In this way, it deterred several Canadians from voting for the party. Moreover, Conservative candidate Kenny Chiu, who had been critical of China’s policies and proposed a Foreign Influence Registry Act (to publicly identify those acting on foreign interests), became the target of a disinformation campaign.

CCP bots created a narrative on Chinese social media platforms, namely, Weibo and WeChat, that Chiu is supposedly against China. This cost him his MP seat as half of the electorates in his constituency comprised of Chinese Canadians.

According to The Diplomat, the ‘China factor’ contributed to the defeat of the Conservative party. “While the three major political parties mentioned standing up against authoritarianism and China in their campaign platforms, the Conservatives had more proposals against China,” it reported.

“Those messages did not work well among suburban voters, particularly among voters of Chinese descent,” the news outlet added while highlighting plans of Conservative leader Erin O’Toole to sanction Chinese President, the chairman of the Standing Committee of the National Party Congress among many others.

This led to the loss of Conservatives in the Richmond Centre and Markham Unionville electoral districts, where people of Chinese descent constitute 60% of the population.

Espionage, Chinese police stations and Canada’s fightback

China has also been using traditional tactics such as espionage to advance its interests in Canada. Earlier this month, the federal police booked an electric vehicle battery researcher named Yuesheng Wang (35) for sending trade secrets of Hydro-Québec to China.

Charges have been framed against him for espionage under the Security of Information Act. Our detection and intervention mechanisms allowed our investigators to bring this matter to the attention of the RCMP, with whom we have worked closely ever since,” said Senior Director (Hydro-Quebec) Dominic Roy.

According to a report by Safeguard Defenders, Chinese police stations are operating in three locations across Canada. This includes a private residence in Markham, a convenience store in Scarborough, and the address of the Canada Toronto Fuqing Business Association.

China’s official response is that the stations are set up to help expats renew their IDs or driving licences. The stations are reportedly covert hubs for China’s “involuntary return” program, which forces Chinese expats to return home for punishment if they are found to have violated Chinese law while abroad.

China’s objective behind operating such illegal police stations is to suppress anti-China sentiments across the world, to spread communist ideology, ensure the Chinese expats who violated Chinese law abroad and interfere in the governance and democratic processes of other countries.

Recently, the Canadian police have also launched a probe into the matter. “Our aim is to prevent intimidation, threats and harassment as well as any form of harm initiated on behalf of a foreign entity being applied to any community in Canada,” the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) stated.

In November this year, Canadian Industry Minister François-Philippe Champagne directed 3 Chinese companies to sell their stakes in the critical mineral sector of Canada.

The companies included Sinomine (Hong Kong) Rare Metals Resources Co Ltd, Chengze Lithium International Ltd and Zangge Mining Investment (Chengdu) Co Ltd.

“While Canada continues to welcome foreign direct investment, we will act decisively when investments threaten our national security and our critical minerals supply chains, both at home and abroad,” he stated. For many, the Canadian government’s action against China is too little and too late.

Central government stops scholarship for madarsa students from Classes 1 to 8 across the country: Details

0

The Centre has stopped granting scholarships to madarsa students across the country from Classes 1 to 8. Madarsa children from Classes 1 to 5 were provided with a scholarship of Rs 1,000, while students from Classes 6 to 8 received the grant depending on their courses.

In 2021, close to 5 lakhs children from around 16,558 madarsas received government-sanctioned scholarships.

The decision by the Ministry of Minority Affairs, headed by Union Minister Smriti Irani, to stop scholarships for madarsa students was reportedly taken since the education of students of Classes 1 to 8 is free under the Right to Education Act, and since other essential items are given to them. Other essential facilities include mid-day meals and free books.

The government said this is why only students of Classes 9 and 10 were provided with scholarships, and therefore, only their applications have been forwarded to the concerned department.

UP govt conducts a survey of state madarsas and finds 7,500 unrecognised madarsas operational in the state

The Uttar Pradesh government had on September 1 announced that it would survey unrecognized madarsas of the state to ascertain information such as details of teachers and students, curriculum, and its affiliation with any non-government organization.

Danish Azad Ansari, Minister of State for Minority Affairs, had stated that the survey would be carried out in accordance with the requirements of the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR), which wants to check on the basic facilities provided to students in madrasas. The minister went on to say that the survey would help gather additional information such as the name of the madarsa and the institution that runs it, whether it is run in a private or rented building, and information about basic facilities such as drinking water, furniture, electricity, and toilets, among other things.

The survey identified over 7,500 unrecognized madarsas in the state, said State Minority Welfare Minister Dharam Pal Singh in October 2022.

FIFA World Cup in Qatar: Multilingual preachers at mosques, QR codes, and many other methods to propagate Islam among visiting football fans

Qatar, which is hosting the 2022 FIFA World Cup, has come under scrutiny for the various restriction and bans imposed at the World Cup stadiums. Besides, the Islamic country has been drawing flak for utilizing a variety of strategies to convert people to Islam who have come to the country to attend the World Cup. According to a recent report, the Katara Cultural Village Mosque in Doha, Qatar’s capital, has become a hotspot for the proselytization of non-Muslim visitors.

As per media reports, at the mosque, multilingual male and female preachers explain Islam’s religion and ‘tolerance’ to tourists. Visitors are being encouraged to watch electronic boards on Islam which are on display in more than 30 languages and positioned in such a way that it allows visitors to view them on their phones. In addition, books ‘introducing’ Islam in different languages are being distributed amongst the visitors.

Furthermore, Qatar’s Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs has erected a pavilion outside the 2022 World cup venue, where visitors are being ‘introduced’ to Islam and its teachings.

The report further suggests that the hadiths, which are words, actions, or habits of Prophet Muhammad, are found written on the walls of streets to attract non-Muslim tourists visiting Qatar to enjoy FIFA World Cup 2022.

Employees and preachers from the Qatar Guest Centre are stationed at the mosque’s entrance to promote Islam to the Eid Charity Foundation. They welcome non-Muslims and answer their queries about the mosque. They also arrange for visitors to enter the mosque after prayers in order for them to become acquainted with the inside ambience of a mosque.

Hotel rooms offering visitors QR codes to ‘learn’ about Islam

Qatar has also made an effort to feature Islam and Muslim culture throughout the first week of the tournament with sayings and teachings of the Prophet Muhammad posted around Doha and translated into multiple languages including English.

So much so that the FIFA World cup inaugural ceremony had also begun with a female vocalist dressed in a traditional burqa, a face covering outlawed in several European countries, reciting a Quranic verse.

According to several social media accounts, some hotel rooms in the country are also offering visitors QR codes to learn about Islam, and foreigners visiting Qatar for the tournament were invited to learn about Islamic attire.

Radical preacher Zakir Naik to preach Islam

How religion has grabbed the spotlight amid the football tournament can also be evidenced by the fact that the radical Islamic preacher Zakir Naik has been reportedly ‘invited’ to preach Islam to football fans.

Recently, it was reported that Zakir Naik, the Islamic Preacher from India wanted for financial fraud and other crimes, reached Qatar to preach Islam. A video from 2016 went viral where he was seen converting people to Islam in Qatar. Though the video was old, there are speculations that his preaching on the sidelines of the FIFA World Cup 2022 may be directed at conversions of visiting football fans.

After concerns were raised by India, Qatar clarified that Naik was not extended any official invitation to attend the FIFA inaugural ceremony.

Football fans embrace Islam in Qatar

On November 22, several Islamist handles claimed in a tweet that over 500 people (apparently tourists visiting Qatar to enjoy FIFA World Cup 2022) have converted to Islam. In the tweet, a pro-ISIS Islamic activist Majid Freeman wrote, “Allahu Akbar! We’ve heard from local daees in Qatar that 500+ people have embraced Islam recently.” Though no official media reports were found to support the claims.

Furthermore, reports emerged that a Mexican fan embraced Islam in a mosque in the Katara cultural village in Doha, on the second day of the World Cup 2022 in Qatar.

On November 23, viral videos showed how a Brazilian family of six consisting of a father, mother, and four children (3 girls and a boy), was seen pronouncing Shahadah (testimony of faith), prompted by the preacher.

Qatar won the right to host the summer World Cup in December 2010 against all odds in 50 degrees celsius temperature, before FIFA moved the World Cup to winter for the first time in history to protect players from that heat. The tournament is now being held in the small Arabian country and about 1.2 million international visitors are expected in Qatar during the Nov 20- Dec 18 tournament.

It is notable here that Qatar has been linked with Islamic terrorism and has been accused of spreading Wahabism by many sources. Its links to numerous organisations that fund the Muslim Brotherhood, Hamas, Al Qaeda etc have been highlighted in recent times.

Fan assaults goalkeeper with a corner flag as the passion boils over during a football match in Turkey

0

Turkish football fans are known to be one of the most passionate football fans in the world. Visiting teams during European competitions have often described the atmosphere in Turkey as the most hostile one that they have ever experienced. However, this passion sometimes boils over, as it happened during the local derby between Göztepe and Altay football clubs.

The second division match between Anatolian rivals Göztepe and Altay was called off 25 minutes into the first half after a Göztepe fan attacked the Altay goalkeeper with a corner stick. The goalkeeper, Ozan Evrim Ozenc, was rushed to the hospital after the attack that resulted in serious injury to his head.

Ozenc suffered a hemorrhage and a four-centimetre gash on his head thanks to the assault by the deranged fan. The game was suspended immediately after the assault.

Göztepe and Altay are longstanding rivals from the city of Izmir in Turkey, with passions often running high during the course of this local derby. Before the Altay goalkeeper was attacked, the game had already been stopped once in the 19th minute after fireworks were thrown at the home fans by the section supporting Altay.

Injured fans were receiving treatment at the time when the Altay goalkeeper was attacked with a corner stick by a Göztepe fan. The fan went on to hit the player on the head twice before he was restrained by the other players and officials.

Following the crazy scenes on the pitch, the hosts Göztepe tweeted, “We wish a speedy recovery to our fans, who were seriously injured by a flare fired from the Altay away stand.”

Instead of blaming their fan, Göztepe put the blame for the violence on Altay supporters and said, “The situation where the flare thrown by the away tribune and causing the events to start brought our supporters. Anyone who puts this cartridge in the stadium, allows it to be inserted, fires it has a share in the landing of that stick on the head! He is guilty! Those who fired that firecracker to the tribunes to kill perfidious people, regardless of their children, and those who turned a blind eye to it, will pay for our 2 children from Göztepe, who were injured!”

Both clubs are currently occupying mid-table spots in the second division of Turkish football.

MP: Shamim Khan arrested for sexual assault and forced conversion of a minor Hindu girl, had posted his porn clip with the girl’s mother on Twitter

0

The Madhya Pradesh police on Monday arrested one Shamim Khan, a government school teacher, for sexual assault and forced conversion of a minor Hindu girl.

According to Swarajya journalist Swati Goel Sharma, Khan had an affair with the girl’s mother and posted a clip of their sexual act on Twitter.

Khan reportedly befriended a poor Hindu woman and converted her to Islam. He then molested the daughter of the Hindu woman, due to which she left her studies in class 11. He later pressurised her to convert to Islam following which she filed a complaint against him.

Khan has been arrested under various sections of the Indian Penal Code pertaining to kidnapping, sexual assault, and forced conversions. The official Twitter account of Rashtra Jyoti, an organisation dedicated to helping victims of atrocities and making their voices heard, tweeted a copy of the FIR filed against Khan.

The menace of love jihad and forced religious conversions

The menace of Love jihad, where Muslim men are targeting susceptible and vulnerable non-Muslim women, lured and brainwashed, forcefully converted to Islam, tortured, raped, and then either killed or abandoned, has rapidly been spreading its tentacles in various parts of the country including Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi, and Bihar.

In March 2020, the Shivraj Singh Chouhan-led Madhya Pradesh government, in an attempt to curb the nefarious practice in the state, cleared the bill that criminalises ‘Love Jihad’ (Grooming Jihad) and other forms of illegal conversions. The 2021 Act provides for up to 10 years in jail and a fine of up to Rs 1 lakh for religious conversion through coercion, force, allurement, and fraudulent means and misrepresentation, including marriages solemnised through fraudulent means.

Earlier this month, Indore police arrested a 32-year-old Muslim man has been arrested for forcing his Hindu wife to convert to Islam. The accused has been identified as Rubab Shah. In her complaint, the accused’s wife stated that she met the man while working in a private hospital and was “trapped” into getting married to the accused in 2015.

Kanpur: Harassment accused Md Faiz threatens minor girl to ‘chop her into pieces’ when she files police complaint, arrested

0

In UP’s Kanpur, a person named Md Faiz has been arrested for stalking, harassing a minor girl, and then threatening to ‘chop her into pieces’ when she filed a police complaint against him. As per reports, Faiz is a history-sheeter with several police cases against him. Faiz used to stalk and harass the minor girl. He was even pressuring her to get married to him.

As per reports, the incident has been reported from Kanpur’s Naubasta area. The victim girl is a minor, and studies in class 12. As per the victim’s complaint, Md Faiz has been harassing the girl and pressuring her to perform ‘Nikah’ with him.

When the victim rejected his advances, Faiz threatened the girl saying that he will kidnap her, and if she refuses him further, he will chop her into pieces. The victim’s family had registered a complaint against Faiz back in October, but he absconded at that time, as per reports.

On November 25, Faiz arrived again and started threatening the victim and her family members.

Kanpur Police have informed that the accused Faiz has been charged with relevant sections under POCSO charges. He has been arrested by the police on Sunday and has been sent to jail under police remand.

When the police team finally located Faiz and arrived to arrest him, the female members of his family reportedly tried to create a ruckus, with the intention to prevent his arrest. The women and some neighbours even clashed with the police, due to which additional forces were called to control the situation.

Cambridge University dean backs claims suggesting Jesus Christ was transgender, leaves worshippers in tears

0

A junior research fellow who said that Jesus Christ had a “trans body” in his work has been backed by a dean at the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom. The Dean of Trinity College, Dr. Michael Banner, came out in support of junior research fellow Joshua Heath, who presented Renaissance and Medieval artworks of the crucifixion displaying a side wound that he equated to a vagina in front of the crowd.

The assembly was in a state of shock and crying following the sermon. The words clearly offended the worshippers, and some of them started crying as soon as they heard the ‘offensive’ statements.

During the talk, Joshua exhibited three works of art to support his points, including the well-known Pieta by Jean Malouel from the year 1400, in which he highlighted Jesus’s side wound and blood pouring into his groin. He also said that this side wound was isolated and takes on a decidedly vaginal appearance in Bonne of Luxembourg’s Prayer Book from the 14th century, which was read by worshipers.

The sermon ended with the following statements, according to The Telegraph, “In Christ’s simultaneously masculine and feminine body in these works, if the body of Christ as these works suggest the body of all bodies, then his body is also the trans body.”

The Dean received letters of protest from several worshipers who left the service in tears and were clearly upset with this claim. Worshippers found the sermon to be extremely distasteful, and the fact that it was delivered in front of youngsters just made them feel worse. However, the Dean disagreed, claiming that these representations of Jesus Christ in male and female bodies have made it easier to discuss trans concerns.

In a complaint letter to Dr Banner, a congregation member who preferred to remain anonymous wrote, “I left the service in tears. You offered to speak with me afterward, but I was too distressed. I am contemptuous of the idea that by cutting a hole in a man, through which he can be penetrated, he can become a woman.”

“I am especially contemptuous of such imagery when it is applied to our Lord, from the pulpit, at Evensong. I am contemptuous of the notion that we should be invited to contemplate the martyrdom of a ‘trans Christ.’ a new heresy for our age,” he stated.

Shraddha murder redux: Delhi police arrests mother-son duo for killing father; had chopped his body parts into pieces and stored them in the fridge

While the country is still recovering from the shock of the barbaric murder of Shraddha Walkar, wherein her live-in-partner Aftab Amin Poonawala brutally strangulated and chopped her into 35 pieces, a similar case from Delhi’s Pandav Nagar region has been reported on Monday, November 28. According to ANI, a woman and her son were arrested by the Crime Branch in Delhi’s Pandav Nagar for murdering her husband along similar lines as Aftab Amin.

The police revealed that the mother-son duo, killed the victim, in this case, the husband of the woman and chopped off his body in several pieces. they then stored the dismembered body parts in a refrigerator. Every day, after that the duo threw the pieces of the dead body in different areas of Pandav Nagar and East Delhi.

CCTV footage provided by the criminal division shows the mother and her son entering and exiting an uninhabited plot of land at various times of day and night.

A report by the Hindi daily Jagran has named the deceased as Angan Das, while the accused as Poonam and Deepak. It reads that Deepak is the stepson of the deceased. Reports claim the man was murdered over suspicion of an extra-marital affair.

Shraddha Murder case

The method of operation in the aforementioned case is similar to that of Shraddha Walkar’s murder case. On November 14, the Delhi Police solved the six-month-old murder case of Shraddha Walkar and arrested Aftab Poonawala for murdering her, and then chopping her into 35 small pieces. Aftab executed the murder on May 18 and stored her body parts in the refrigerator. He then disposed of the body pieces in Delhi’s Mehrauli forest during the next 18 days.

The accused was arrested based on the complaint filed by Shraddha’s father on November 10. He stated in the complaint that the accused and the deceased had rented an apartment in Delhi and were staying in an unhealthy live-in relationship. He said that he had always opposed their relationship as Aftab used to physically assault Shraddha.

The girl, a resident of Palghar was adamant about continuing her relationship with accused Aftab and shifted to Delhi with him. Three days after they shifted to Delhi, they engaged in a quarrel and Aftab happened to kill Shraddha. He confessed his crime on November 14 and stated that they used to fight a lot. He said that he murdered Shraddha on May 18 as she was forcing him to get married to her. They also fought over who would manage the domestic household expenses.

The accused has been arrested and a case under IPC section 302 (murder) and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence of an offence committed) have been registered.

IANS whitewashes ‘Love Jihad’ by calling Hindu outfits ‘hotheads’, citing ‘analyst’ to blame Hindus for their own persecution

On the 27th of November 2022, IANS tweeted that the National Investigating Agency (NIA) had submitted the chargesheet in the case of Deepthi Marla, alias Maryam, granddaughter-in-law of former Congress MLA Late Idinabba from Dakshina Kannada district for running a terrorist network in Karnataka and recruiting gullible Muslim youths to terrorist outfit ISIS.

It was in January 2022 that the NIA filed a charge sheet in the ISIS recruitment case. The charge sheet was filed against eight accused, including Deepthi Marla and Ammar Abdul Rahiman. Marla’s husband Anas Abdul Rahiman is the son of B M Basha, whose father Idinabba was a former Congress MLA. Idinabba died in 2009. Ammar Rahiman is Anas’s brother. Others charge sheeted in the case were identified as Mohd. Waqar Lone, Mizha Siddeeque, Shifa Haris, Obaid Hamid Matta, Madesh Shankar and Muzamil Hassan Bhat.

“Investigation has revealed that all eight accused charge-sheeted today are affiliated with ISIS and were involved in radicalising, recruiting, organising terror funds and grooming like-minded gullible Muslim youth through different secured social media platforms to perform Hijrat to ISIS-controlled territory for joining ISIS,” NIA said in January. “During the investigation, it has been revealed that after the decline of ISIS Caliphate in Syria/Iraq, Deepthi Marla and Mohd. Ameen had visited Kashmir in January and March 2020 for Hijrah (religious migration) and for engaging in terrorist acts and supporting the activities of ISIS,” the NIA added.

It is pertinent to note that Maryam was a Hindu earlier and had later converted to Islam after marrying Anas Abdul Rahiman. When she was arrested by the NIA in January, the NIA had said, “She is from a well-off family. Her name is Deepthi Marla. She has studied in the UAE. She was attracted towards Islam there, married a Muslim from her native place and converted later.”

One would imagine that a case as clear and grave as this one would inspire the media to talk about the threat of Love Jihad (Grooming Jihad) far more seriously. It is a fact that Hindu girls are being trapped by Muslim men who later either forcefully convert them to Islam, push them into terrorism, groom them or murder and rape them. There are thousands of cases that have been documented over the years. With the case of Maryam, who not only converted to Islam but also started recruiting for terror outfit ISIS, it becomes clear that Hindu women are on the target of Islamists and the threat posed by this menace is not simply a figment of the Hindu mind.

IANS, however, had different plans. Instead of reporting the case and talking about the threat posed by Love Jihad, they proceeded to cite the case of Maryam and whitewash crimes that are being committed against Hindu women.

On the 27th of November, IANS published a report headlined, “Hindu hotheads raise the ‘love jihad’ temperature”. This report was picked up by several media outlets, including the Muslim-centric newspaper Siasat.com, to whitewash crimes against Hindu women.

The report by IANS starts by citing 3 cases that were clearly targeting Hindu women. First was the case of Maryam, who converted and then became a recruiter for ISIS. While Maryam herself is the terrorist in this case, it is pertinent to note here that she became one after marrying her Muslim husband and converting to Islam. The second case cited by IANS was that of a 13 year old Hindu girl was raped and tortured. She was then forced to convert to Islam and marry the 25-year-old Muslim accused. In the third case, IANS writes, “Apoorva Puranik, who embraced Islam after marrying Mohammad Ejaj Shiroor in Hubballi was stabbed 20 times for seeking a divorce. She found that Ejaj was already married with two children. Investigations revealed that Ejaj, an auto driver, allegedly trapped the victim, a MBA graduate, took her private videos, blackmailed and coaxed her into marriage. The incident was reported in March in Hubballi”.

While these cases cited by IANS itself had a clearly religious angle, the report then goes on to demonise Hindus who were talking about being vigilant against the menace and provided a platform for others to blame Hindus for their own persecution.

After talking about Sri Rajashekarananda Swamiji of Vajradehi Mutt in Mangaluru and Shri Ram Sene planning to start task forces to protect Hindu women, IANS quotes certain “experts” who wish to blame Islamic fundamentalism on “Hindu majoritarianism” while Hindu girls get targeted.

The first “expert” IANS quotes is Basavaraj Sulibhavi. Basavaraj Sulibhavi is a “political thinker” who is often quoted by IANS to whitewash the crimes of the Muslim community and whip up propaganda furthering the Muslim victimisation trope. In the report by IANS, he says, “The system is a culprit here. It is the first culprit indeed. It is being done from both sides. Fundamentalism, practised by both majority and minority, is forming mindsets of individuals”. He continued, “As a result of this development, individuals become prey to such fundamentalism. There is of course politics. It cannot be stated that a particular religion or a set of individuals alone are responsible. The growth of minority fundamentalism is largely due to fundamentalism by the majority. We have to move forward keeping all these factors in mind.”

IANS essentially gave a platform to this alleged “political thinker” to say that it was the Hindu mindset which was responsible for the Muslim community becoming radicalised, because of which they were targeting Hindu women, essentially, blaming Hindus themselves for their own rape and murder.

Further, the “activist” said, “There is an incident of Hindu activist stuffing a body in a suitcase. All these cases should be seen at an individual level. There is an attempt to pin it on to a religion. There is systematic fundamental politics. Whenever there is an incident, there is an attempt to blame and use an individual’s religion.”

This is a trope that is often used by individuals who wish to delegitimise the hate and religious crimes that being perpetrated against Hindus by Islamists. It is indeed true that crimes are committed by barbarians regardless of religion. Nobody in their right mind can claim that Hindus do not commit heinous crimes and that it is only the Muslim community that produces criminals. However, the issue here is much deeper. In cases of Love Jihad (grooming jihad) there is a clear religious hate angle that cannot be simply written off – essentially, making these crimes hate crimes and not merely a heinous crime that the administration needs to curb.

Let us take a recent case for example – a few days ago, a Hindu woman was gang raped at gunpoint and the rapist’s sisters recorded the act. The recording was then used to blackmail the girl, feed her beef and convert her to Islam.

The girl said in her complaint, that Akleem Qureshi raped her at gunpoint while his two sisters Tarannum and Shabana drugged her and made a video of the act. The accused thereafter used the video to blackmail her into eating beef forcefully against her will and convert to Islam. Qureshi forcefully took her to places like Allahabad, Banaras, Akbarpur, Ajmer and Bihar from where she was brought to Agra. In Agra, the girl alleged, that Akleem and his two brothers Shadal and Visal took turns and raped her.

According to the officials, the girl, who lived in the Shahi police station area, used to run a beauty parlour in her home, which Tarannum and her friend Gazala frequented. The victim and Tarannum gradually became friends, and one-day Tarannum persuaded her to come to her house, to which the victim agreed. Tarannum brought the victim to her house and imprisoned her in a room where Akleem Qureshi had previously been hiding. The offender then raped the woman while holding a gun to her head. Tarannum and Shabana, Qureshi’s two sisters, filmed the act. The recording was then used to pressurise the victim into eating meat against her will, converting to Islam, and marrying Akleem Qureshi.

In this case, while the act of gang rape is heinous in itself and can be committed by criminals of any religion, there was a clear religious angle that makes it a hate crime. Therefore, to say that it should not be dealt with as a special class of crimes simply because other crimes happen too is a classic tactic to shield the Islamists and delegitimise the persecution of Hindus, especially Hindu women, purely on the basis of religious hate.

In the IANS report, Pramod Muthalik is quoted extensively talking about the menace of Love Jihad and how the need of the hour is to implement a strict law to protect Hindu girls. “This is evidence of how Hindu girls are used for terrorism. There are many cases. Hindu girls are sent to Syria after kidnapping and trapping them in ‘love jihad’.” “In the case of Deepthi Marla, a Hindu girl who is arrested for allegedly recruiting gullible Muslim youth to IS had 14 bank accounts in her name. There is enough proof.” He added that thanks to anti-conversation laws, “more than 3,000 Hindu girls, who were victims of ‘love jihad’ have been brought back into the fold of Hinduism”. He concluded by pointing out: “Though they faced threats in the initial days, we supported them and ensured their safety.”

IANS then goes on to cite the same “political thinker” to negate what Muthalik said.

“There is a political motive behind these narratives. Fundamentally, the citizens of this country, to whichever religion they belong to, once they attain majority, they can marry the person of their choice,” Sulibhavi said.

“The citizens have got the constitutional right to marry persons of their choice. Today, attempts are being made to take away this constitutional right. The casteist and traditional mindsets provoke religious feelings to divide people in the name of religion,” Sulibhavi added.

While conceding that forcing the partner to follow a different religion after marriage is “wicked”, Sulibhavi essentially whitewashed the crimes of the Islamists by claiming that the issue is political in nature and an attempt to tarnish all “inter-faith marriages”.

It can be said that IANS quoted both sides of the argument and left the decision to the readers, however, their headline, which was repeated by several media houses, points towards their inherent bias and their attempt to pull the wool over the eyes of their readers, insinuating that Love Jihad is a figment of the “Hindu hothead” imagination.

IIT engineer who sent threatening mail to PMO says he did it to implicate another man who was close to girl he liked

0

On Saturday, November 26, the Gujarat anti-terrorist squad (ATS) arrested a 25-year-old IIT graduate for sending threatening mail to the Prime Minister’s office (PMO). The youth, Aman Saxena, was arrested from Baduan in Uttar Pradesh. According to media reports, Gujarat ATS authorities confirmed that the accused had sent the letter to try and frame another man who was close to a girl he liked.

Aman Saxena is a resident of Adarsh Nagar in Badaun, and he was arrested following a joint raid by the Gujarat ATS team and UP Police. He sent the email issuing a threat to PM Modi’s life during PM’s rally in Jamnagar on Monday.

Ahead of Gujarat assembly polls, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to address rallies in Kutch’s Anjar, Jamnagar’s Gordhanpur, Bhavnagar’s Palitana, Jamnagar’s Gordhanpar, and Rajkot on Monday.

An ATS official was quoted as saying by the media, “The home ministry entrusted an investigation to the Gujarat ATS regarding the threatening email to the PMO. After which, the ATS began an inquiry and traced the sender of that email in Adarshnagar of Badaun.”

Two cops went to Badaun and arrested Saxena from his residence after using both technology and human monitoring, according to the ATS officer. Saxena was taken to the Badaun police station for further questioning.

As per media reports, the accused originally turned off his phone, but when he used his SIM card in his father’s phone, the ATS team tracked his location. Aman’s father has blamed his son’s Delhi-based girlfriend for leading him astray. He claimed that the girl used Aman’s phone to send the threatening email to PM Modi.

The accused sent the threat to PMO to frame another man who was close to the girl he liked

Interrogation by the ATS revealed that Saxena had sent the email using the identity of a man close to a female Saxena admired. Saxena planned to frame that person in a false case and hence sent the threatening mail. The cops have stated that they will investigate the case from every angle possible.

The official stated that the agency would file an FIR against Saxena for issuing threats through anonymous communication and other offences under the Information Technology Act.

According to authorities, the initial inquiry shows that it was only Saxena who sent the email. Still, if it is discovered that anyone else was involved, he or she will be questioned as well.
