Clashes at Al Aqsa mosque: Viral images, videos reveal Palestinians were equipped with stones inside the mosque compound

Hours after clashes broke out between Israeli police and Palestinians inside the premises of the Al-Aqsa Mosque in East Jerusalem on Friday (April 15), social media users pointed out how the latter had been collecting stones to pelt at the Israeli forces.

Columnist Yisrael Medad shared a video where Palestinians were seen barricading the Al-Aqsa mosque and collecting stones. While labelling it as a ‘religious service’, Medad pointed out how the stone pelters were not interrupted or stopped by other worshippers within the mosque premises.

Dov Hikind, the founder of America Against Antisemitism, had also shared images of stones that were kept within the mosque premises. He had inquired, “If Ramadan and Al Aqsa truly mattered to Palestinians why would they desecrate the month and the site by bringing stones to throw and playing soccer in there?! Religion is no excuse for violence so don’t try to abuse it.”

Eli Lipshitz, the spokesperson at the Embassy of Israel in Canada, pointed out how the Palestinians were seen covering their faces and carrying rocks in hand. “Glad to see responsible worshipers returning the holy site to a place of worship. Here’s a picture of the attackers,” he had tweeted.

Another Twitter user shared an image of rioters, armed with stones, who were present inside the mosque. They were seen carrying Hamas and PA flags and standing next to a pile of rocks. “Israeli forces entered (the) mosque in order to disperse violent rioters,” he had tweeted.

News reporter Yossi Eli also shared footage of how Palestinians, who were supposedly praying at the mosque, pelted stones at the Israeli forces.

Notably, the news of strikes and the intensification of violence comes during Ramzan, the Muslim holy month, and just before Passover, the Jewish festival. Last year, Israeli security forces raided the Al-Aqsa Mosque during Ramzan which resulted in further escalating tensions and led to an 11-day Israeli action in Gaza in retaliation to Hamas rockets fired at Israel.

In anticipation of terrorist strikes, Israel’s Prime Minister, Naftali Bennett, recently instructed the country’s security services to remain on high alert until Ramadan’s end. Following a shootout in Jenin, West Bank, in which three suspected terrorists were killed, this decision was taken.

The three terrorists were killed by Israeli Defense Forces on the night of April 3 near Jenin, a West Bank city. Days following the alert, Israeli Prime Minister Bennett stated that security forces had lately thwarted more than 15 terrorist assaults in the Jewish state.

Delhi: Hanuman Jayanti procession attacked by stonepelters in Jahangirpuri, cop injured after being shot by the mob

Attack on Hindu religious processions continues in the country, with the latest incident reported from national capital Delhi. According to early reports, a Hanuman Jayanti procession was attacked by stone pelters in the Jahangarapuri area in Delhi, and several people were injured in the incident.

When the Hanuman Jayanti Shobhayatra was passing through the C block of the Jahangiurpuri, suddenly some people pelted stones on the process from the rooftops in the area. After the attack, the people in the process also started pelting stones on the attackers in retaliation, and triggered a communal violence in the process.

The mob then turned more violent, and attacked the police deployed with the procession. Several police vehicles were also torched by the attackers. According to Republic TV, the mob also used firearms to attack the police, and one policeman was shot on his arm.

The sub-inspector and other injured persons have been admitted at the Babu Jagjivan Ram Memorial Hospital. It is feared that more people and police may have been injured in the attack and gunfire.

After the violence, forces of Rapid Action Force and several companies of Delhi police have been deployed at the Jahangirpuri area to prevent more violence.

Videos posted on social media show the violence during the Hanuman Jayanti procession.

Police say now the situation is under control in the area.

This is latest in a series of attacks on Hindu processions this week on the occasions of Hindu new year, Ram Navami, Hanuman Jayanti etc. Several such incidents have taken place in several states in the country in the past one week.

Palghar lynching: Two years on, justice still eludes two Hindu sadhus who were handed over to a bloodthirsty mob by the police

Two years ago on this day, ie April 16, two Hindu sadhus were brutally lynched to death by a frenzied mob of more than 100 people in the satellite town of Palghar, close to 100 Kms from the country’s financial nerve centre and the capital of Maharashtra, Mumbai.

On 16th April 2020, two Sadhus of Juna Akhara, Chikne Maharaj Kalpavrukshagiri (70), and Sushilgiri Maharaj (35) were lynched along with their 30-year old driver by a mob. The incident took place at Gadchinchale village in Palghar district, Maharashtra. They were on their way to Surat, Gujarat. The police were present at the scene, but they allegedly did not try to stop the mob or did anything to save the sadhus.

The police had initially claimed that their team which had rushed to the spot to rescue the 70-year-old man also came under the attack of the violent mob. However, later videos emerged that completely debunked the claim of the police. Contrary to the claims, the police personnel had allegedly handed over the Sadhus to the frenzied mob, which went on to beat them to death in front of the policemen.

Several reports that emerged in the wake of the bloodcurdling lynching hinted that the brutal murder of the Hindu sadhus may not have been an act of spontaneity but a part of a broader conspiracy designed to eliminate the Hindu priests. An FIR into the case revealed an ultra-left connection to the lynching as it mentioned that a CPI(M) gram panchayat member had allegedly gathered a mob armed with rods and stones to kill the sadhus.

“The modus operandi by cutting trees and placing boulders to obstruct movement is also a common stratagem used by Naxalites against their preys,” the had FIR mentioned.

Reports also emerged that the killing of the Sadhus may have been intentional and politically motivated. The involvement of Christian Missionary organisations and some local NCP leaders and leftists were also suspected.

The horrifying lynching had shaken the collective conscience of the country, with voices emerging from several parts of the country to bring the perpetrators of the heinous crime to the book. Several politicians, across the political spectrum, came together to demand strict action against the culprits so that such incidents are never repeated in the future and a strong precedent is set.

Eventually, Palghar SP Gaurav Singh was sent on compulsory leave and five police personnel were suspended. Besides, 35 police officers from the local Kasa police station were also transferred as the public fury shifted towards the government for taking exemplary action against the police officers responsible for handing over the sadhus to the bloodthirsty mob. Four days after the incident, the case was transferred to the CID, even as demands for a CBI inquiry into the matter steadily gained momentum. In fact, four separate petitions have been filed in the Supreme Court demanding CBI or NIA probe into the lynching incident.

Nevertheless, as the attention of the public was drawn towards the case and the pressure was mounting, the CID team of Maharashtra Police swung into action, filing at least 7 charge sheets and arresting over 250 accused in the case, along with 15 juveniles. Notably, 56 accused initially named in the case are still on the run. The charge sheet said that the ghastly attack was a result of rumours / fake messages making rounds on WhatsApp groups, informing the villagers that child lifters and organ harvesters were moving around in the area. Based on the rumour, the sadhus were attacked and killed by a mob of over 300 people.

However, two years since the gruesome incident took place, justice still eludes the slain sadhus who were the victim of a brutal mob determined to hack them to death. As the public memory, which is always short and fickle, fades, the issue of seeking justice for the Palghar lynchings seemed to have been pushed into the back burner as both, politicians and citizens, have displayed little concern to take the case to its logical end.

Two years on, the case is yet to be heard in the court of law and there seems to be no urgency on the Maharashtra government’s part to expedite it for a quick hearing. The opposition, too, appears to have exhibited little appetite to corner the Maharashtra government on the inordinate delay witnessed in the Palghar sadhu lynchings case and is content with the state’s laissez-faire approach in the matter.

The Palghar Sadhu lynchings should have galvanised people against the appalling complicity of the police force in handing over the victims to a mob exhibiting murderous tendencies. Instead, what we are witnessing today is a shocking apathy towards the treatment meted out to the Hindu sadhus, who were killed by a mob for no fault of theirs.

As the slain sadhus await justice, the collective indifference toward their fate also reveals that the initial rage, shock and anger that swept the country following the incident was just a transient phenomenon that has vanished as people demonstrated little concern to continue the fight for justice.

Mumbai: BJP leader Mohit Kamboj starts distributing loudspeakers to temples on Hanuman Jayanti, says all guidelines and rules will be followed

Mumbai’s Bharatiya Janata Party leader Mohit Kamboj started distributing loudspeakers to temples on the occasion of Hanuman Janmotsav on 16th April 2022. Kamboj said that more than 1,000 loudspeakers will be distributed in temples in the state on the occasion of Hanuman Janmotsav. He has also invited applications for the same from the entire country. He said that the applications will be scrutinized and then the temples will be given a loudspeaker.

Though the main distribution program of loudspeakers started today, Mohit Kamboj had given the first loudspeaker on 14th April 2022. While giving a loudspeaker to a temple in Mumbai, he had tweeted, “Today, LoudSpeaker distribution started! The first loudspeaker is given to Shri Ghanteshwar Hanuman Temple 11th lane, Madhu Park, Khar (West), Mumbai. Siyavar Ramchandra ki Jai. Will give loudspeakers to other temples from 16th April Hanuman Jayanti.”

Reportedly, the loudspeaker distribution program by Mohit Kamboj has already received more then 9,500 applications from temples across the country. The BJP leader had announced the program on Navaratri, and after that had invited applications from temples through WhatsApp.

On April 13, he had posted a photograph showing dozens of boxes with loudspeakers and amplifiers kept ready for distribution to temples. A label with his photograph, name and the caption Jai Shri Ram can be seen pasted on the boxes.

In an interview with Aaj Tak, Mohit Kamboj said, “We have started distributing the loudspeakers in Mumbai today. We are giving loudspeakers to those temples that have requested us to provide one. We don’t intend to achieve anything through this. The devotees who visit the temples want to listen to the praise of the deities, various bhajans, etc. Even the priests wish that there must be a recitation of Hanuman Chalisa and other different hymns and songs praising different deities. So we are giving them these loudspeakers free of cost.”

Mohit Kamboj further said, “While setting up the loudspeakers on those temples we will make sure that the guidelines laid down by the Supreme Court are followed. We will also make sure that the decibel level is set within the allowed limits and proper permissions are taken. Songs praising deities will be played.”

Mohit Kamboj clarified that the loudspeaker distribution program is his personal effort and the party has no role in it. He said, “This is my individual effort and I am taking it ahead. I got support from people to bear the expenses for this. The people are also helping my foundation. Some of my friends have also helped me with this. Thousands of temples have requested us to get a loudspeaker. The initial distribution will take place only in Mumbai and Maharashtra.”

About loudspeakers fitted on Madrassas and mosques, Mohit Kamboj said, “A loudspeaker in a Madrassa is illegal in the first place. Even the loudspeakers fitted in mosques that do not follow the guidelines of the Supreme Court, whose sound penetrates one kilometer inside the MHADA buildings and the BDD chawls and slums; government must take action against those. Either the government of Maharashtra should legalize it or the government must order them to follow the guidelines of the Supreme court.”

About Raj Thackeray’s stand on the Azaan row, Mohit Kamboj said, “That is the stand of Raj Thackeray and his party. But talking in legal terms, he has said a very good thing that this is not a fight between two religions but it is a fight for a social cause. Today Azaan is given five times a day from loudspeakers in a volume loud enough to break the rules set up by the guidelines of the Supreme Court. So Raj Thackeray has said that either the noise should be reduced or the loudspeakers should be removed. I am of the opinion that one must follow the rules even if he wants to use a loudspeaker. No one here is against anybody’s religion. Every religion has its own prayer practices and those shall be maintained. But that should not cause any inconvenience to other people. We must bring the mosques within the periphery of the guidelines of the Supreme Court.”

Mohit Kamboj further said, “Talking about Madrassas, I am not mentioning schools here. Yes, there are loudspeakers in some schools but schools are never so closely located. On the other hand, if a small enclosed area has three mosques and 45 madrassas, and every one of them is having a loudspeaker operating simultaneously then imagine the kind of noise it creates. So this is wrong and the state government must act against it.”

On being asked about the law and order problem that could be caused by the loudspeaker distribution, Mohit Kamboj said, “If someone says that this is a law and order problem and we are intending to disturb the peace and harmony in the society then the government must revisit its ideology. When Balasaheb Thackeray would bat for a Maha Arti program in 1995, at that time, did Uddhav Thackeray do the peace talks? Today he is the chief minister and quotes the Congress-type things because his ideology has become secular. Which ideology does he subscribe to right now?”

Mohit Kamboj also said that the azaan row is a social problem. He said, “Leave aside the ideology. This is a social cause. Today, if such big loudspeakers are there in the vicinity of the hospitals; like there is Behrampada area near the Asian hospital, there is Nargis Dutt Nagar near the Leelawati hospital, there is the mosque of Marine Lines near the Bombay Hospital; don’t the patients there get troubled due to this? There are school-going students who live in the vicinity of Madrassas. They are also disturbed due to the loudspeakers. So this is a social issue and rather than taking the necessary steps according to the guidelines of the Supreme Court, why this government is talking about the law and order problem.”

Slamming the Maha Vikas Aghadi government for the atrocities on Hindus in Maharashtra, Mohit Kamboj said, “Sadhus were killed in Palghar. while going to attend the Hindu festivals, Hindus are asked where do they come from? What do you want to say? Have they come from Pakistan? If today while living in Mumbai, a city in India, a Mumbaikar is not allowed to go from one area of the city to the other, just to joyfully celebrate his Hindu festival, then what is more atrocious than this? And then FIr is registered against them only. They are the ones against whom action is taken. So this government is not maintaining the law and order but provoking Hindus.”

When five brave women brought the British to their knees: A Hanuman Janmotsav story that every Indian must know

The year was 1929, freedom struggle in the entire nation was at its peak. In the small town of Sangamner in Maharashtra, nationalist sentiments were high as Hanuman Jayanti, the traditional Rath yatra Utsav of the town was approaching and the British police had decided not to allow the Rathayatra.

On the day of Hanuman Jayanti, people across the town gathered in the early morning, at Chandrashekhar Chowk from where the Rathayatra was supposed to begin. The police had already arrived and were determined to not allow this yatra. Thousands of people gathering in one place, in one spirit, to worship the god of strength and power was not something the British would take quietly. And so, the police declared that they will shoot and beat up anybody who tries to move the Rath and march on. The people, though furious, could not step forward because of the fear of a Jallianwala-Baugh-like massacre that could take place.

Suddenly from nowhere two-three saree-clad women came forward, took the string of the Rath in their hands and started pulling the Rath forward will all the strength they could gather. This stunned everybody. Another two-three woman joined and started taking the huge Rath forward will every bit of strength in their body. The police could not understand what had just happened. The extremely heavy Rath was being taken forward by five women in front of their eyes, in spite of their warning. And mind you, these were not some affluent, activist, educated women; they were common, illiterate but brave Indian women who decided to stand up to the British police for their traditions, for their revered Hanuman, for their nation, their pride and their dignity.

After realising what had just unfolded, the police decided to take control. But till then, hundreds of women, little girls and men too had joined their brave sisters in pulling Hanuman Ji’s Rath. After reaching the next chowk, a reserved force arrived and stopped the procession. The women did not budge. They took a decision to let the Rath stay there until the police let them carry it forward. For two months, the entire town was on Satyagraha.

Finally, the British govt had to kneel and allow the Rathayatra. This was the victory of those five women, of the girls, women who joined them and of the entire town that decided to stand tall and fight the British. The Rathayatra concluded with immense joy, pride and an even stronger spirit of unity and patriotism.

The tradition still continues. The small town of Sangamner in Maharashtra, every year celebrates Hanuman Jayanti by remembering this struggle and by honouring the women-power. Every year since 1929, the Rathayatra begins with women pulling the Rath first.

Earlier today, Chitra Kishor Wagh, VP BJP Maharashtra, took to Twitter to share details of the tradition and how it still continues to date. In a Twitter thread, she also expressed her gratitude for the honour of getting the opportunity to pull the Rath this year.

We often are told through our history books or our media that a few leaders, one party won us our independence. But events in our history like this one, remind us that it was, truly, we the people of India, who struggled, sacrificed and won the war of independence.

UK signs deal with Rwanda to send illegal migrants to the African nation, one-way flights to start within weeks

On Friday, the United Kingdom signed a $156 million deal with Rwanda to tackle the issue of illegal migrants. Calling it an ‘economic development partnership’, Home Secretary Priti Patel penned the agreement with Rwanda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Vincent Biruta at Kigali, Rwanda. The scheme is aimed at saving countless lives from human trafficking.

Under the agreement, illegal immigrants to UK, and also some asylum seekers, will be sent to Rwanda by the UK govt. Once in Rwanda, they will be assessed for their settlement in the African nation. This means that people illegally entering UK  as stowaways in trucks or boats will not be able to stay in the country if they are caught. This is aimed at preventing people from illegally entering UK.

PM Borris Johnson said that some asylum seekers and all the migrants entering the United Kingdom illegally would be relocated to Rwanda. “The agreement will see some people arriving in the UK as stowaways on trucks or in small boats sent 4,000 miles to the East African country, where their asylum claims will be processed and, if successful, they will stay”, said Jhonson on April 15.

Terming it as an innovative approach, the Prime Minister further said that the plan will discourage people from making dangerous attempts to cross the English Channel, and put people-smuggling gangs out of business. He further added that those who fail to comply with the scheme would be swiftly shifted to a third country or their country of origin.

However, the scheme is being criticized by many including the opposition who accuse the Prime Minister of using the policy to distract the public attention from his political troubles. Also, Refugee and human rights groups called the plan inhumane, unworkable, and a waste of taxpayers’ money. The United Nations’ Refugee Agency urged Britain and Rwanda to reconsider.

UNHCR senior legal officer Larry Bottinic opined that the scheme is both disheartening and unnecessary. “Experience shows these agreements are eye-wateringly expensive, often violate international law, lead to the use of widespread detention and lead to more smuggling, not less. With this deal the UK is looking to shift its responsibilities towards refugees, not share them”, he said.

Meanwhile, agency’s Assistant High Commissioner for Protection, Gillian Triggs said that people fleeing war, conflict and persecution deserve compassion and empathy. They should not be traded like commodities and transferred abroad for processing.

What will happen to migrants who reach Rwanda?

The agreement between the United Kingdom and Rwanda ensures that people who migrate will be protected, respected, and given a new way of life in Rwanda. They will seek permanent settlement depending on the choice of the migrants. Jhonson said on Friday that the scheme will be immediately implemented in the country and that all those who have entered the United Kingdom illegally since January 1, 2022 will be sent to Rwanda.

Rwanda

According to the reports, the relocated people in Rwanda will be given essential support and motivation including up to five years of training, integration, accommodation, and health care, so that they can resettle and thrive. UK Home Secretary Priti Patel also informed that Rwanda will invest in the infrastructure to support the future of migrants.

While the United Kingdom government has paid $156 million to Rwanda, reports mention that the country will have to spend extra around $26000 to $39000 for every migrant to be sent to Rwanda. The UK government reportedly has decided to take this decision after around 28000 refugees and migrants landed on beaches of southeastern England after crossing the English Channel in small boats last year.

In the year 2020, 8500 refugees had entered England via boats or by hiding in trucks and ferries. Some even died drowning in the chilling waters of the English channel. Now the deal ensures that no undetected boat enters the Kingdom.

It is important to note that though Home Secretary Priti Patel termed this agreement as a ‘global first’, several other countries like Australia, Israel, and Denmark have been sending asylum seekers overseas. Australia relocated more than 4000 to places like Nauru and Papua New Guinea between 2012 and 2019. Also, Israel signed deals with other countries to relocate illegal immigrants entering in from Sudan and Eritrea.

Andhra Pradesh: Family protest with the dead body of a 7-month-old child who allegedly died after cops block traffic for minister’s victory convoy

0

The family of a 7-month-old baby in Andhra Pradesh, sat on a dharna with the dead body of their deceased child on Friday, April 15, after they alleged that their baby died due to police apathy.

The family living in Cherlopalli village near Kalyandurg in Andhra’s Anantapur district alleged that their ailing child, who they were rushing to the hospital died after the district police personnel stopped their auto-rickshaw from passing by for over 30 minutes despite knowing about the sick child. This, they said was done while the police were regulating traffic and barricading all the entry points for the victory convoy of the Women and Child Welfare Minister Usha Sricharan.

Superintendent of Police Fakkeerappa Kaginelli, contrary to the claims made by the affected family and videos emerging from the dharna spot in the night, refuted the allegations saying that no traffic was held up for the minister’s convoy.

According to the deceased infant’s parents, Ganesh and Irakka, they were taking their unwell child to the Rural Development Trust (RDT) hospital on Friday night in an autorickshaw. The parents said that at first, they had dialled 108 ambulances. However, when the ambulance did not turn up due to the restrictions, the couple decided to shift the girl to the RDT hospital in an auto.

On the same day, the newly sworn-in Women and Child Welfare Minister Usha Sricharan was visiting her constituency for the first time and a procession was organised to welcome her. The Satya Sai District police had imposed traffic restrictions and blocked vehicles to allow the procession of Kalyandurg Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party (YSRCP) MLA and cabinet minister.

The couple claimed that when they arrived in Kalyandurg, the traffic police stopped them. They begged the cops to let them go to the hospital because the girl’s condition was worsening. However, the unmoved cops only allowed traffic after the minister’s procession left the area, which took almost half an hour.

When the child arrived at the hospital, the doctor declared her brought dead. The distraught father of the 7-month-old infant claimed that the police’s half-hour delay cost his daughter’s life.

Reacting to the incident, Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief and former CM, Chandrababu Naidu, questioned the ruling YSRCP government as why a sick baby was not allowed to reach the hospital on time. He slammed the ruling party, the police, and the administration.

Naidu’s son and member of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council Nara Lokesh, shared the video of the distraught father carrying his deceased child in his arms as he called for the suspension of the policemen involved.

“This is murder by the minister and police. Despite pleading that the sick child be taken to hospital, the police did not allow it. Action must be taken against those police whose actions lead to a child’s death,” said Nara Lokesh.

Delhi court sets aside court order directing CBI Director to apologise to Aakar Patel, upholds order to withdraw Look Out Circular with conditions

On Saturday, a Special CBI Court upheld a Magistrate court order that had set aside the Look Out Circular (LOC) issued by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) against former Amnesty International India chair Aakar Patel. The court also said the CBI director need not offer a written apology to Patel as directed by magistrate court after agency officers stopped him from leaving the country.

According to the reports, Special CBI Judge Santosh Snehi Mann of Rouse Avenue Court upheld the trial court order that had directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to immediately withdraw the look-out circular issued by it against far-left ‘activist’ and fo Amnesty India chief Aakar Patel. However, the court order is subjected to two conditions, Aakar Patel should appear before the trial Court within a week and shall furnish a bond for his appearance under Section 88 CrPC. Secondly, he will not leave the country without the permission of the trial court, said the special CBI court.

Uphelding the ordert to withdraw the look out circular against Aakar Patel, the court said that the manner in which the LOC was been issued by the CBI shows lack of understanding of the relevant law. Therefore, there is a need for orientation of the concerned officers of CBI, not only for sensitization but also to bring objectivity in the actions, is not out of context, the court order said.

“In the present case, LOC was issued on wrong interpretation and understanding of law, and not out of any malice or ill will. Hence, it is not a fit case to call for fixing the accountability for issuance of LOC,” the Court said.

The court however set aside the court order directing CBI director to apologise to Aakar Patel, saying it was not a subject matter before the Trial Court, as there was no scope to venture into the aspect of “Mental Harassment”.

“Therefore direction of the Trial Court to the Director, CBI to give written apology to the respondent accused, acknowledging the lapse on the part of his subordinate, to compensate for mental harassment, cannot sustain and is liable to be set-aside,” the Court order stated.

Aakar Patel was stopped from boarding a flight to the United States (US) on April 6. He was informed that he could not fly out of the country as a LOC had been issued against him by the CBI.

The CBI had filed a charge sheet against Amnesty India and its former chief Aakar Patel for violations of the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act, 2010, last December.

Aakar Patel had approached the court recently against a lookout circular (LOC) issued against him by the CBI. The Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) court had asked CBI to withdraw the LOC, however, a sessions court had stayed the magistrate court order.

The LOC was purportedly issued in relation to a case regarding evasion of FCRA Rules through “commercial” methods after Amnesty UK remitted Rs.10 crore and subsequently Rs.26 crore to its Indian entities without the approval of the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).

In response, Patel had then moved the ACMM court, which had set aside the LOC and also directed the CBI director to tender a written apology to Patel.

After the ACMM order, Patel again booked tickets to the US but was once again stopped at Bengaluru Airport on April 7 by immigration authorities since the CBI had not withdrawn the LOC. The CBI had filed a revision application before the special court challenging the magistrate’s order.

Will beat you with a stick: TMC threatens violence if Mamata Banerjee’s ‘image’ is ‘tarnished’, asks gang-rape victims to show proof they were brutalised

Days after several rape cases were reported from the State of West Bengal, a TMC leader was seen threatening the Opposition parties with physical harm for allegedly tarnishing the image of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

The TMC leader has been identified as one Afroz Sarkar, who serves as the President of the Bhagwangola Block in the Lalbagh subdivision in the Murshidabad district of West Bengal.

In a video that has now gone viral on social media, the TMC functionary was heard as saying, “You cannot simply claim that your 50-year-old wife was raped. By doing all this, you cannot dislodge Mamata Banerjee from the position of West Bengal Chief Minister. The people of the State and her party leaders are with Mamata Banerjee.”

“Tell us if you have been raped. We will notify the Officer-in-Charge, Superintendent of Police and demand the arrest of the perpetrator. Show proof that you have been raped. The surge in rape cases in TMC-ruled West Bengal

Earlier on April 4 this year, a 14-year-old girl was allegedly raped and killed in the Shyamnagar locality in Hanskhali Block Number- I in Nadia district of West Bengal. The accused was named as one Brajgopal, the son of Trinamool Congress (TMC) Gajna Gram Panchayat member Samar Gowla.

Reportedly, the accused had invited the victim to his house under the pretext of birthday celebrations. The girl became unwell, following which she was rushed to a local doctor. She passed away the following day.

According to the family members of the victim, the girl died due to excessive bleeding. They alleged that she was raped by the son of the TMC leader. The family members also claimed that the TMC leader Samar Gowla and other party workers forcibly cremated the girl’s body at a local crematorium.

The incident had created political upheaval in the State, with the TMC supremo and incumbent CM Mamata Banerjee trying to trivialise allegations of rape and murder made by the victim’s family.

On April 13, Trinamool Congress Panchayat member Avijit Mondal was arrested for molesting, torturing and attempting to rape a differently-abled woman. The incident took place at Kalukhanra village in West Midnapore. The area falls under the jurisdiction of the Pingla police station.

The differently-abled woman had gone to her elder sister’s house in Kalukhara village. The girl was abducted and sexually abused by Mondal when she had gone to the pond to wash the dishes. On the following day, the victim was examined at Midnapore Medical College and Hospital.

RSS leader hacked to death in Kerala’s Pallakad, SDPI role suspected

In a gruesome incident, a senior Rashtriya Swayam Sevak (RSS) leader was hacked to death in broad daylight in Kerala’s Palakkad on Saturday.

According to the reports, Sreenivasan, a former Physical Education instructor of the RSS, was murdered by a group of 5-6 assailants who arrived on three bikes. They hacked him to death inside his shop in the Melamuri area of Palakkad with sharp weapons. According to eyewitnesses, the attackers were armed with machetes and attacked him several times, inflicting multiple fatal injuries.

He was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead. Sreenivasan is survived by his wife and a daughter. The police reached the crime scene and began an investigation.

BJP state leader Krishnakumar alleged that the SDPI was behind the attack. The BJP leader said that they had received threat calls after the murder of SDPI activist Subair.

The murder of the RSS worker took place a day after a member of the radical Islamic organisation Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) worker was allegedly killed by assailants. The deceased Subair was the area secretary of the Popular Front. SDPI had accused RSS of killing Subair, and today’s killing can be a retaliation attack.
