Another allegations bites the dust: SPG denies Rahul Gandhi’s ‘baseless and devoid of facts’ claims

0

Continuing with his mostly baseless attacks on NDA government, Congress party president had claimed that government wanted to put RSS people in SPG. While speaking at an event at Siri Fort auditorium in New Delhi, he had said that one SPG officer had come to him and said that he was given a list of RSS people to be appointed in SPG. Rahul Gandhi had claimed that the officer had refused this order and resigned from his post instead.

Today ministry of home affairs has issued a press release denying this allegation. The ministry has informed that they talked to the officer that Rahul Gandhi was referring to, and that officer denied having any such discussion with Rahul Gandhi ever. As Rahul Gandhi is SPG protectee, that officer did interact with Gandhi, but he never talked about the appointment of new officers, or reason of his resignation. The press release states that comment made by Rahul Gandhi is “baseless, devoid of fact”, and also it is unfortunate because such a statement is made by an SPG protected person.

Clarification issued by Home Ministry

This was one of the most outrageous allegations made by Rahul Gandhi because SPG commandos can’t be appointed by some list sent from the top. SPG commandos are selected after a rigorous selection from the best the best in various police forces. Also, a compromise in selection in SPG commandos will amount to a compromise in the selection of the Prime Minister. Rahul Gandhi’s insinuation would mean that RSS was trying to compromise the security of Narendra Modi which would be an outlandish claim in itself.

All you need to know about India’s association with Dassault and process to purchase Rafale since 2004

Indian Air Force is authorized for 42 squadrons of fighter jets for effective defence on our borders, but its current strength is depleted to only 34 squadrons. The following timeline depicts the flow of events since 2004 –

  • 2004 – to strengthen the depleting squadrons of Indian Air Force, Vajpayee government initiated the original proposal to buy 126 fighter jets but they were moved out of power
  • 2007 – UPA government finally initiated RFP for 126 aircrafts
  • 2012 – Dassault declared L1 winner based on the approval of Rafale aircraft by Indian Air Force
  • 2012 – Dassault starts signing offset agreements with Indian partners including Reliance. This was reported in 2012 in leading publications including Reuters, livemint, Rediff, Times of India etc.
  • 2012 (when Dassault was selected as RFP winner and contract negotiations started) – the deal on the table was to buy 18 aircraft in flyaway condition from France and 108 to be made locally by HAL
  • 2013 (during negotiations) – Dassault refused to take responsibility for the 108 aircraft manufactured by HAL.
  • Their position was that India should sign two separate contracts – one with Dassault for 18 planes in flyaway condition
  • Another contract with HAL for 108 manufactured (assembled) by using kits supplied by Dassault
  • The above was a fair point but Government (UPA) wanted Dassault to own full responsibility for all 126 aircraft. Dassault refused to sign the contract for planes manufactured by HAL and the deal didn’t move forward
  • Result: deadlock – standstill – no progress – the deal was blocked while IAF was impacted by depleting squadrons
  • 2014 – Modi government resolved the deadlock, agreed for the planes to be bought in flyaway condition from Dassault – and increased the number from 18 to 36
  • Local manufacturing of remaining planes shelved for now and to be pursued separately – hence HAL was out of consideration (for Dassault)
  • Reliance is still in because of offset clause – offset requires Dassault to buy components from local Indian companies (invest 50% of the deal)
  • This supply of components could be for not just Rafale planes – but for other businesses of Dassault including civil aircraft like Falcon too
  • Hence Reliance and other Indian companies are now embedded in the global supply chain of Dassault – which is a win-win in the long term
  • Reliance and other companies are supplying parts, not manufacturing planes – hence the comparison with HAL is baseless – these are two separate parts of the deal. That too, not for Rafale immediately.
  • As part of the offset clause, Dassault needs to invest 50% of the deal (Euro 4 billion) in buying components from Indian companies
  • For offset – Dassault has signed up with 72 Indian partners – Reliance is just one of them. The complete list of offset partners is accessible here and it includes Tata, Mahindra, L&T, Godrej etc. among others
  • For the remaining aircraft to be procured through local manufacturing – since Dassault was not partnering with HAL, India is tying up with other companies like Boeing F/18,  Lockheed Martin F-16 and Saab Gripen
  • These companies are in the process of partnering with HAL, Mahindra, Adani and other Indian companies for local manufacturing
  • In Rafale deal, offset partners are chosen completely by Dassault – they are free to choose who they spend their 4 billion on – Indian government or French government has no say in that
  • By the way – it is more expensive to make planes in India because, in absence of modern technology, HAL takes 3 times more man hours
  • HAL’s production estimate for Rafale in man-hours was 2.7 times higher than the ones by Dassault. This is in line with 2012 report by India Today on Sukhoi planes where it worked out much cheaper to directly buy the planes from Russia than HAL manufacturing (assembling) them in India

Summary:

  • For 10 years UPA bought nothing while IAF’s squadrons were fast depleting
  • Modi government moved fast to go ahead with the purchase and dropped the local manufacturing part because it had become a showstopper for the Dassault deal
  • Local manufacturing is now being pursued with other partners, so essentially not HAL, but Dassault is out of local manufacturing
  • In Rafale deal, Reliance and other partners including Tata, Mahindra, L&T, Godrej etc. are involved for supplying components to Dassault – they have been chosen by Dassault and have been involved since 2012
  • India invested 8 billion in buying the planes but 50% (4 billion) will come back to Indian companies as part of offset clause
  • Many Indian suppliers will get embedded in the global supply chain for Dassault which is a long-term strategic benefit
  • IAF will start getting modern state of the art (and possibly nuclear-armed) fighter jets by 2019 and more from other manufacturers instead of waiting forever and helplessly seeing their squadrons getting depleted

The above are indicators of a deal that spells all round positive for India.

Glaring holes in scam theory:

  • Meanwhile, check this 18 seconds video where the opposition has quoted four different prices for Rafale deal at four different occasions. None of these is relevant anyway if the deal was never closed
  • There are also four different scam values quoted by them so far. The last one is particularly interesting because they are alleging 1 lakh 30 thousand crore scam – in a deal whose total value is only 59000 crores

Such incoherent and baseless mentions make these allegations frivolous without any substance or relation to the above listed actual facts.

Jammu and Kashmir terrorists instructed by ISI to kill Special Police Officers, reveals new intel

0

A report by Times of India has revealed the reason behind the Indian Foreign Ministry’s decision to cancel the proposed talks with the Pakistani counterpart on the sidelines of the UNGA meet within 24 hours of announcing the talks. According to the report, the new intelligence intercepted by the Indian intelligence was the reason behind the cancellation of the talks.

The TOI reports suggest that the Indian Intelligence had intercepted new intelligence excerpts that were exchanged between Pakistan’s ISI and its terrorist operatives in Kashmir where the ISI had instructed Kashmiri terrorists operating in India to abduct and kill special police officers (SPOs) belonging to the J&K police.

The report says that Pakistan’s ISI has been caught redhanded after its intelligence agency gave specific names and pinpointed directions to its foot soldiers to kill the SPOs as soon as they abduct them. The ISI instructions were as specific such that a civilian who was also abducted was let go on instructions from ISI handlers based in Pakistan. The three SPOs killed have been identified as Nisar Ahmad, Firdous Ahmad and Kulwant Singh. The civilian who was abducted and later freed is the brother of an SPO, Fayaz Ahmad Bhat.

It is being reported that these killings were aimed at creating instability and disturbing the local body elections in the state. Addition to this, the ISI tried to create a fear psychosis in the state of Jammu and Kashmir ahead of the polls and putting the police a step back so that the democratic process is stopped.

After these revelations, the Union government took the evidence on a serious note and decided to take the tough call to cancel the proposed talks with Pakistan.

We had earlier reported regarding the recent killings of the abducted SPOs in the state of Jammu and Kashmir. The Pakistani terrorist organisation Hizbul Mujahideen had released a video of threatening the officers and asked them from resigning from the police force. It was reported that some people out of fear had resigned from the force, but the MHA later rejected the charges and termed it as propaganda used by them to disrupt the peace in the state.

Read about the dramatic rescue of Indian Naval officer Abhilash Tomy

0

Search and rescue operations were carried out by the Indian Navy as well as Austrailan Defence Forces for Indian Navy officer and participant in Golden Globe Race, Abhilash Tomy, who suffered severe back injury when his vessel was demasted in extremely rough weather and sea condition. Early morning on Saturday, Commander Tomy sent a text, “ROLLED. DISMASTED. SEVERE BACK INJURY. CANNOT GET UP.”, following which a code red alert was issued and Australian Maritime Safety Authority got into action for helping in rescue of Commander Tommy, about 3,000 kms off Perth in South Indian Ocean.

On 22nd September, his location was shared by journalist Shiv Aroor along with details of multi-country rescue operations put in place for Commander Tomy.

In a heartwarming message, Rear Admiral Jonathan Mead, Commander, Australian Fleet, sent out a message to his batchmates informing he has sent one of Australia’s warships to rescue Commander Tomy. “We will find your man,” he said in his message.

With 70 knot winds, 14 metre high seas, Commander Tomy was facing one of the most terrifying experiences even as he laid immobile in his yacht, Thuriya.

On 23rd September, Royal Australian Navy tweeted that their HMAS Ballarat was on its way to assist Commander Tomy.

A little while later, Indian Navy’s P-8I located Commander Tomy in the Southern Indian Ocean.

And sent across images.

Commander Tomy was surviving only on iced tea as he had not had a drop of water since he was injured.

Few hours back, French ship Osiris was all set to launch 2 Zodiac boats to reach Commander Tomy and administer first aid. Once the injury and his medical condition is assessed, the Australian authorities will decide whether to remove him from the Yacht or to tow the vessel, most likely to Amsterdam which is about 180 km away. Earlier, he had sent a message he could move his toes, but feels numb. He said he has not eaten or drank anything and that he would need a stretcher.

Commander Abhilash Tomy, who was traced by an Indian Navy Reconnaissance aircraft, was successfully rescued by French vessel Osiris on Monday.

Dear Shekhar Gupta, Abhinav Bindra is right, India doesn’t have just one world class athlete

0

Yesterday, while promoting his show ‘Walk The Talk’, senior journalist Shekhar Gupta tweeted “Meet India’s only truly world-class athlete, and it’s not Virat Kohli” to introduce the young sensation, Neeraj Chopra.

While Neeraj Chopra is without a doubt a world class athlete and India’s biggest hope for a medal in Athletics, calling him the only world-class athlete in India does a huge disservice to a number of fine athletes representing India.

No wonder Abhinav Bindra, another world-class athlete, was not amused by this comment and expressed his disappointment at this ‘ignorance’ by Shekhar Gupta.

Even leaving Cricketers aside (And just for the record, Virat Kohli is not just world class, he is on the way to becoming an all-time great), and concentrating only on Olympic Sports, it is simply not true. On the track, India has the World Junior Champion Hima Das who stormed to a Gold medal in the Asian Games recently and at just 20 years of age, is only going to get better in the coming years.

In badminton, we have 2 women and 2 men in Top 10 world rankings, surely enough to make them world class? In recently concluded World Shooting Championship, India won 2 Golds, 4 Silvers, 1 Bronze (considering senior only) but maybe Ankur Mittal and Om Prakash Mitharwal aren’t world class enough even though they are world champions.

On the wrestling mat, even though Sushil Kumar is at the twilight of his career, we have Bajrang Punia, Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik, Divya Kakran, Pooja Dhanda and many many more who continue to do well on the world stage. In the boxing ring, 5 times World Champion MC Mary Kom is still around (she added Commonwealth Gold to her long list of plaudits this year) and is preparing for the Olympics 2020 where she will once again be hoping for a medal.

Not to forget, our ‘National Game’ Hockey, where India jumped ahead of Germany recently in the rankings and moved to the 5th spot in the men’s game, surely good enough to be called world class? Even in women’s game, India did really well in the recent World Championship, reaching the Quarter Finals before being beaten in a penalty shoot-out by eventual runners-up Ireland.

In addition, the Indian Paralympians, Mariyappan Thangavelu and Devendra Jhajaria returned with Gold Medals from the 2016 Summer Games while Deepa Malik (list of medals won by her is too long to share here, just google her) won Silver, and Varun Bhati returned with Bronze medal.

These are just some of the names that popped into my head after reading that comment by Mr Gupta that India has only one world-class athlete. This is by no means an exhaustive list and there are many more outstanding individuals who are part of the sporting renaissance in India as we look to claim our spot among the top countries in the sporting world.

So, no Mr Gupta, we don’t have only one World Class athlete, it makes for a catchy line to promote a TV show but it is far from the truth.

As PM Modi rolls out Ayushman Bharat, remember when P P Bajpai said insurance pushes people to die

Prime Minister Narendra Modi formally launched Ayushman Bharat, now aptly renamed the Pradhan Mantri Jan Aarogya Yojana (PMJAY) at a massive gathering in Ranchi yesterday. Over 10 crore of India’s poorest families will be covered under this scheme, which approximates to over 50 crore or a whopping 500 million people who will now be covered.

It is practically redundant to point out that this is the largest scheme of such nature that the world has ever seen. But it is probably important to point out, as Modi did yesterday, that while some parties have ruled for 6 decades in the name of the “poor,” they couldn’t envision something of this magnitude to actually help the poor.

The key feature of this scheme is that it brings private competition into the mass market of Indian healthcare. This is something that deserves to be understood in full.

Until now, only the rich had access to private healthcare, while the poor were stuck with mostly lousy government hospitals. What was the underlying market reason for that?

Because, so far, there was no way for the poor to afford private healthcare at any sustainable price point. As such, there was no incentive for private healthcare providers to find ways to lower costs. Hence, private healthcare remained something marketed exclusively to the rich.

Things have changed now. Suddenly, every poor person in India has Rs 5 lakh of government money attached to them. This generates an incentive for private players to cut costs and invite in this massive pool of new customers. The underlying economics is always the same, whether with mobile phones, computers or air travel. When you can reach out to a larger market, costs go down for everybody.

Ayushman Bharat, which covers 500 million people, could well turn out to be Prime Minister Modi’s greatest legacy.

Of course, because this is Modi, we can expect that starting today, the eminent liberals in our media will be on a mission to find glitches and shortcomings in the scheme.

Let me give you fair warning. Our media may soon inform you that Ayushman Bharat is NOT perfect. Unlike all those other schemes in the world that involve 500 million people.

After all, the one thing that Ayushman Bharat does not cover is Modi Derangement Syndrome. The symptoms of this disease are a complete loss of logic, balance and reason. People in the media, academia and intelligentsia who had it real good during the rule of Sonia Gandhi are particularly at risk. The progression of this degenerative brain disease takes people from hating Modi to hating Hindus to hating India and finally to a job at some outlet such as The Wire.

Let me give you just one example of an early sufferer who was displaying advanced stage symptoms in mid-2015 itself. Here is Punya Prasun Bajpai, then a prominent anchor at Aaj Tak, sitting down with Amit Shah to discuss the first year of Modi Sarkar (watch from 19:10)

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-mgR9Y2B0vA?version=3&rel=1&fs=1&autohide=2&showsearch=0&showinfo=1&iv_load_policy=1&wmode=transparent]

Amit Shah: As far as marketing is concerned, it is a must. Unless I proclaim loudly on Aaj Tak that accident insurance is available for just Rs 12, how will people know about it and avail it?

P P Bajpai: Sir, these facilities that you want to provide after death; the public is wondering why your schemes cannot help when they are alive.

Amit Shah: What? Are you against the concept of insurance?

P P Bajpai: No, we are worried about getting two meals first…

Amit Shah: No seriously, are you against the concept of insurance?

P P Bajpai: We are against all schemes that push people towards death…

Amit Shah: Huh? Push people towards death…

This is what Modi Derangement Syndrome can do to someone. They get so carried away in their hatred for all things connected to Modi that they end up seeing strange visions of insurance being something that pushes people towards death!

I wonder what Punya Prasun Bajpai is thinking today, with Ayushman Bharat being rolled out for 500 million people. This must be a genocide, then? They all said it. Modi is like Hitler. And now the Ayushman Bharat holocaust is finally here.

I can imagine Punya Prasun Bajpai hiding inside his house right now, possibly throwing faeces at a wall (well, if you that that’s too outlandish, left in the US has done it, and left in India just copies them). And screaming uncontrollably that Modi is pushing 500 million people towards their deaths. And how the voice of balanced, unbiased journalists like him is being silenced.

What do you think he is doing?

Sikkim gets its first airport at 4,500 feet, 100th operational airport in the country

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Sikkim’s first airport at Pakyong today which will be a big boost to the connectivity and economy of the North-East region of the country. Sikkim was the only state in the country which did not have a functional airport until now.

According to the reports, the first commercial flight operations from Pakyong will begin from October 4. The low-cost airline SpiceJet has decided to operate 78-seater Bombardier Q400 flights from Delhi, Kolkata and Guwahati every day under the UDAN programme, Centre’s regional connectivity scheme.

The airport, which is built in an area over 201 acres, is located on top of a hill about two km above Pakyong village at 4,500 feet above sea level and is nothing short of an engineering marvel. Reportedly, the airport has been built at an estimated cost of Rs. 605 crore with the application of latest cutting-edge technology for its soil reinforcement and slope stabilisation keeping in view the altitude it was built at.

The Sikkim airport is strategically located about 60 km from the India-China border, thus making an extremely important in terms of strategic and military applications. The Pakyong airport will be the 100th operational airport in the country.

The construction of the airport was started in 2009 during the UPA government, which will be inaugurated after nine years. The runway of the Pakyong airport is 1.75 km, which can handle various types of aircraft. Reportedly, the construction of another 75-metre stretch adjacent to the main runway will be used by the Indian Airforce in the coming days.

The airport was constructed by the Airports Authority of India and has integrated structures comprising an ATC tower-cum-fire station, two sophisticated CFT, one terminal building for passengers, high-intensity runway lights, parking for over 50 vehicles are some of the features of the airport.

Desperate Congress floats conspiracy, connects Manohar Parrikar continuing as CM to Rafale ‘secrets’

0

Goa Congress yesterday alleged that Prime Minister Modi and BJP President Amit Shah did not dare seek ailing chief minister Manohar Parrikar’s resignation as “he has crucial information on the Rafale fighter jet deal which he could use to ‘blackmail’ them”. Goa Pradesh Congress Committee Girish Chodankar said, “I am sure Manohar Parrikar must be having a lot of information about the Rafale deal as he was the Union Defence Minister at that time.” Parrikar was the defence minister from November 2014 to March 2017 when he stepped down to swear in as the chief minister of Goa.

Chodankar’s statement comes hours after the BJP chief announced that Parrikar will continue as chief minister, ending days of speculation of what direction Goa would head as chief minister Parrikar continues to get his treatment for his pancreatic ailment. Last week, even as Parrikar was undergoing treatment in AIIMS, Delhi, Congress had approached Goa governor to stake claim to form a government.

OpIndia.com had earlier speculated that there was a distinct possibility that the BJP government in Goa might collapse should Manohar Parrikar resign as the Chief Minister since their allies had agreed to support the BJP only on the condition that Parrikar is appointed the CM. However, the Congress is itself a divided house with an uninspiring central leadership although it only needs the support of 5 MLAs to form the government in the state.

Congress, for its part, has continued to maintain that Rafale deal was a scam, despite facts proving otherwise. Manohar Parrikar, as Defence Minister, was also instrumental in bringing to light the AgustaWestland VVIP chopper scam and said how ‘invisible hand’ was guiding investigation during the UPA government. Recently, the UAE court had favoured extradition of Christian Michel, one of the accused ‘middleman’ who allegedly arranged for bribery in exchange for a 2007 contract for the purchase of 12 VVIP helicopters to be used by leaders including the President, Prime Minister and former prime ministers. Michel’s interrogation could open a can of worms for the Congress.

In such desperate times, when their allegations on Rafale are falling flat and their hopes of forming a government on Goa are also crashing down, Congress has now resorted to floating conspiracy theories.

After trying to divide India on caste lines, Shekhar Gupta’s The Print resorts to fuelling regional divide

0

The epidemic of caste-based crimes should be a matter of grave concern for the entire country. But for some, most crimes become an excuse to malign the country and divide it further on the basis of caste.

Recently, after the brutal attack on a couple, Madhavi and Sandeep shocked many. Madhavi’s father had attacked her brutally for allegedly marrying a boy from a ‘different caste’. Condemnable as this incident was, another incident came to light where Bengaluru, Bandi Siva Deepthi Reddy married one Murahari Vijay Kumar and allegedly, the girl’s father has issued death threats to the girl for marrying outside her caste.

If anything, these incidents prove that caste-based violence is a pan India problem, which, along with the law enforcement authorities, the Indian society needs to be battle together. While law enforcement plays a vital role, one would imagine that veteran journalists would urge the entire country to unite to fight this menace that claims so many lives.

Instead, veteran journalist Shekhar Gupta had other plans. Shekhar Gupta’s ‘news’ portal, The Print, published an article headlined “Progressive south India is catching up with the north when it comes to honour killings”. Earlier too, Shekhar Gupta and his portal had resorted to fanning caste divide after Lalu Prasad Yadav’s conviction in the fodder scam and had later been called out when he tried to preach to people over caste issues.

In this shameful insinuation ridden article, the author goes on to talk about how it is indeed shocking that the “richer and more educated” south is guilty of this malaise. The author also insinuates that the South is “generally held up as a model for the north”.

In the article, an NGO itself is quoted as saying that while many cases take place in Uttar Pradesh, the South is not better off when it comes to caste-based crimes.

The article read:

Although Uttar Pradesh accounts for the bulk of the cases, Sanjoy Sachdev, a former journalist who runs the NGO ‘Love Commandos’ to help inter-caste lovers, said Telangana and Andhra Pradesh are quite bad too.

“We have been saying this for the last eight years,” he told ThePrint. “Cases don’t get reported, but now we are seeing some cases coming out,” he added.

Sachdev’s NGO, based in Delhi, attends to hundreds of calls every day from young men and women who allege that they are being hounded by their family or society

However, instead of focusing on what ails the society at large, Shekhar Gupta’s The Print chose to deepen the north-south divide by furthering the “south more educated”, “south is richer” platitudes.

The Print, in its article, tries to pretend like the phenomenon of the south dealing with caste base crimes is something new in order to first claim superiority, and then grudgingly concede that perhaps such crimes are equally prevalent in the more “educated” south. The superiority of the south is a classic tactic to divide the country on regionalism.

This agenda didn’t escape readers who took to Twitter to express their displeasure. Prasanna Vishwanathan, the CEO of Swarajya Magazine took to Twitter and listen how the south was no stranger to caste-based violence and lynchings.

This is not the first time that the media has used a tragedy to further their sinister agenda of dividing the country on the basis of north and south.

Recently, we reported how a senior CNN-News18 Editor attempted to fuel the north-south divide by calling north-India a “shithole”. During the devastating Kerala floods too, the media had taken it upon themselves to fuel north-south divide by repeatedly fanning separatist sentiments. Right before the Karnataka elections too, the media had furthered this propaganda by fallaciously asserting that the north was a burden on the south.

Kafeel khan, accused in Gorakhpur children’s death case, arrested for fraud

0

Dr Kafeel Khan, who was arrested last year in connection with the death of several infants in the Baba Raghav Das medical college and hospital, has been arrested twice in the last couple of days. According to reports, Dr Kafeel Khan was arrested on Saturday for creating a ruckus at the district hospital at Behraich. He was granted bail on the same day, only to be arrested again on Sunday in connection with a 9-year-old fraud case.

According to reports, Khan, a paediatrician, had reached the Bahraich district hospital with two other associates and had started inquiring about the treatment of infants. He reportedly interfered in the work of doctors and other medical staff. Following which, he was called to the chamber of the Hospital’s paediatrician Dr KK Verma and was arrested. He was released on bail later.

A day after his arrest at Bahraich, Dr Khan has been reportedly arrested in Gorakhpur again for his involvement in a  fraud case. According to reports, Kafeel Khan was arrested along with his brother Adeel Khan were arrested by the Gorakhpur police on charges of fraud and forging documents.

Kafeel and his brother Adeel had reportedly used forged documents and signatures to open a bank account in SBI in 2009 and had made transactions of about Rs 2 crores. They were produced before a local court and were sent to judicial custody. A resident of Gorakhpur named Mudassar Alam had filed an FIR in cantonment station earlier this year alleging that Adeel Khan and his associate Faizan had opened a bank account in Faizan’s name using Mudassar Alam’s photographs and documents. Transactions worth Rs 2 crores were done through the account and the bulk of the money was used to pay for Kafeel Khan’s medical education at Manipal University. Faizan was reportedly abroad so could not be arrested. Charges under the section 420(cheating and dishonesty), 467(forgery of valuable security) and 471(using forged documents) have been levelled against the arrested brothers.

It is notable here that Dr Kafeel Khan’s family has reportedly been involved in several property disputes and legal cases. As pointed by journalist Swati Sharma earlier, Kafeel’s brother Qasif Jameel was attacked in June last year by some litigants his family is contending against.

Dr Kafeel Khan was one of the nine accused arrested after the deaths of several infants in the BRD Medical college hospital grabbed nation-wide attention. Khan was arrested after it was revealed that he was involved with taking oxygen cylinders meant for the hospital away for use in his own nursing home. He was charged under sections 120-B(criminal conspiracy), 308 (attempt to commit culpable homicide) and 409(criminal breach of trust by a public servant). Khan reportedly not only ran a private clinic while serving as a nodal officer of the paediatrics department at the BRD medical college, but he also had other allegations against him too. He was allegedly arrested in 2009 in Delhi on charges impersonating someone in the examination for medical registration. Some reports have also claimed that he was suspended from Manipal University for criminal cases against him.
