Tripura: 24 Bangladeshis with suspected terror links held, some had ID cards issued by Indian madrassas

24 Bangladeshi youth with suspected terror links were held in Tripura yesterday. According to reports, they were held by the Mobile Task Force(MTF) at the Agartala railway station.

All of them were reportedly carrying fake Aadhar cards and were nabbed at the station after MTF personnel, acting on a tip-off raided them on the station. They were reportedly travelling in the Tripura Sundari Express from Delhi. The MTF is a section of state police that deals with illegal immigration.

Abhijit Chowdhury, SP, MTF has reportedly stated that the fake Aadhar cards were all issued from West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu and some of them had ID cards issued by different madrassas of the country. He also reportedly added that none of them had any valid passports and three of them had long expired Bangladeshi passports.

Chowdhury also reportedly added that their possible links with terror outfits cannot be ruled out and a team of NIA officials from Guwahati will be coming to interrogate them on Friday. The MTF had checked the Aadhar cards online and found them to be fake.

It is notable here that several Bangladeshis illegally living in India has been found involved in crimes. Illegal immigration has long been a problem for the North Eastern states and after CM Biplab Deb took charge, he had stated that border vigilance will be tightened with the help of the Ministry of Home Affairs. Tripura shares a more than 800 km border with Bangladesh.

Close aide of controversial Karnataka Congress candidate raided by Income Tax authorities

In a possible embarrassment for the Congress party ahead of the crucial Karnataka polls, the Income Tax department on Friday raided the house of a close aide of Congress candidate Satish Sail:

The raided house of Mangaldas Kamat is situated in Karnataka’s town of Ankola.

As per a NewsX report, Sail is a candidate for the Congress party from Karwar and has gone to jail in the past despite which he was given a ticket by Rahul Gandhi’s party. The report though didn’t shed light on the reasons for IT raid, and it raises the question whether it was in any way connected to the Congress leader.

As reported by The Hindu in 2013, Sail who was then an Independent MLA from Karwar was arrested by the CBI in connection with an illegal iron ore case. It was alleged that Sail’s company Mallikarjun Shipping Private Ltd and others, had exported 80 lakh tonnes of illicit ore from Uttar Kannada district’s Belekeri port between January 2009 and May 2010. The report also indicated that Sail used to be a Congress leader before becoming an independent MLA.

Come April 2018, Times of India reported that Sail was quizzed by a Goa police’s special investigative team (SIT), with regards to a Rs 35,000 crore illegal mining scam unearthed in the state. The police specifically questioned him about illegal iron ore mining in the state from 2007 to 2012.

The raid on Sail’s aide comes after a tough week for the Congress party, where it has been embroiled in serious controversies.

The police on Wednesday filed a case against 14 individuals including a sitting Congress MLA N Munirathna and party candidate, in connection with the recovery of 10,000 voter ID cards from a Bangalore apartment. The plot had thickened when it was reported that business cards and pamphlets of Munirathna were also discovered at a flat. Under this controversy, Republic TV has quoted a tout who has alleged that she collected the voter cards for the Congress MLA.

Amazon Web Services circulates brochure with distorted map of India, sparks outrage

Amazon Web Services (AWS) has generated a controversy because they reportedly circulated a map of India without potions of Kashmir. According to a report on DBPost.com, AWS has circulated a brochure for their Global Summit in Mumbai with a map of India that has a major part of Kashmir missing and shown in Pakistan colours.

courtesy Dinesh O Bareja

The said image was reportedly published in the brochure sent to leading tech companies and individuals ahead of the May 10th Global Summit held in Mumbai. As per reports, about 4000 delegates were expected to attend the summit. In the image of India shared in the brochure, a chunk of Kashmir is shown missing and shown as Pakistan territory.

Many techies have objected to the imagery and an individual named Dinesh O Bareja has started an online campaign demanding Amazon to take the imagery down and issue a public apology.

According to the report in DBPost, an AWS spokesperson has stated that they are looking into the matter seriously and working with a team to ensure such mistakes are not repeated.

It is notable here that this is not the first time Amazon has hurt Indian sentiments. In January 2017, after a controversy over Amazon selling doormats with the Indian national flag printed on them, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj had reprimanded the organisation and the organisation had apologised and withdrawn those items.

The Geospatial information regulation bill (draft) of 2016 states that illegal dissemination, publication and distribution of geospatial information of India can attract a fine up to Rs 100 crores and imprisonment up to seven years. The bill states that any organisation using geospatial data will check the data and content provided and make sure that it is well within national policies.

Recently, Amazon India faced public outrage for endorsing actress Swara Bhaskar in a campaign as the actress had been involved in many social campaigns maligning Hindus and hurting public sentiments.

Amazon Web Services is a subsidiary of global tech giant Amazon which offers cloud computing solutions.

Goa AAP leader demands Church should ‘openly groom and support’ political candidates

In a move which would be termed “communal” if undertaken by Hindus, Goa AAP leader Dr Oscar Rebello has demanded that the Goan Church should come forth and “groom” candidates in future elections, and throw its “weight behind him/her.”

In an article written in a local publication, Rebello argues that though the Church may not be an active political organisation, it is well known that it indulges in politics, at the time of elections. “Local priests in their parish openly canvass for their chosen ones and the Church as an organ, gives a nudge nudge wink wink to their preferred political party in their 5 yearly sermons from the Altinho mount,” he writes. He feels there is “nothing wrong” with this since it is the Church’s “inalienable constitutional right.”

This sudden plea comes in the backdrop of a few weeks where the Goan Church has been pummelled on social media. The saga began when Goa TCP Minister Vijai Sardesai who belongs to the Goa Forward Party, proposed some controversial land usage plans. Sardesai is an ex-Congressman and was once the blue-eyed boy of the Church. The plans were opposed by Church backed NGOs who took to the streets levelling allegations of corruption against Sardesai and other politicians across party lines.

The politicians, in turn, denied allegations and threatened to sue the NGOs. Simultaneously videos exposing the Church’s allegedly shady land dealings surfaced on social media. The videos showed how the Church itself had allegedly asked for various Orchard lands to be converted into settlement etc. With this, the image of the Church took a massive beating.

Rebello in his article touches on this issue as well, but gives a clean chit to the Church and instead tries to blame individual rogue elements in the church. “Of course there are conmen in the clergy who have popped off land belonging to the Church for 30 pieces of silver. Please identify, prosecute and jail them. But to damn the entire Church and pour vitriol by unfounded charges on the top most hierarchy of the Church is so pathetic that it doesn’t even merit a response” he writes.

Rebello’s call for the Church to become a quasi-political party is highly problematic. Firstly it exposes the AAP’s innate communal mindset, where it is ready for overtly religious bodies meddling with politics when it suits them, but gets cold feet when other religions follow suit.

Secondly, this move would be patently in violation of clear-cut guidelines by the Supreme Court. In January last year, the Court had stated that seeking votes in the name of religion amounted to a corrupt practice.

Thirdly, as per Rebello’s own claims, the Church has always been active in politics, using their sermons to canvass for favourite politicians. We had also reported how priests were caught on camera during the recent Goa Elections, campaigning for Congress MLAs. Thus, if now it is an accepted fact that the Church has been covertly influencing Goan elections, has the Church already violated the Supreme Court judgement? Should this warrant an investigation into the Church’s activities?

Finally, besides the above, it may also raise various ethical questions: The Church is the largest landowner in Goa. It also has a religious role to play. Can it be ruled out that the Church will (or already has) used its religious clout to elect friendly politicians who can then enable the Church to profit from the sale of the land it usurped from Goans during the Inquisition?

AAP Goa and AAP nationally should clarify whether they back their Goan leaders call for religious bodies to openly manipulate political sentiments.

As Rahul says he’s ready to be PM, campaign to make Mamata Banerjee the PM picks steam

Days after Rahul Gandhi said he’s ready to become the Prime Minister in 2019, the Opposition seems miffed with the premature declaration. Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee seems to have a huge fan following on social media which believes she is most appropriate to be the Prime Minister of India.

Fans of Didi have started a campaign to make a Bengali PM, and the slogan ‘Didi for PM’ has grown louder since Rahul Gandhi’s elevation to Congress President, whom she did not congratulate for improved performance in Gujarat elections.

Mamata’s disproval of Rahul Gandhi as the prime ministerial candidate can also be noticed from her conspicuous absence from the ‘fabulous dinner‘ hosted by Sonia Gandhi for all opposition leaders on the day Maoists killed 9 CRPF jawans. She even snubbed him when she visited Delhi later to meet opposition leaders to form an anti-BJP alliance. In fact, TMC’s Rajya Sabha MP Derek O’Brien, who had challenged to ‘dethrone‘ Modi in 2019, even reportedly went on record to say that in 2019, Banerjee and Bengal will play the lead role in 2019.

Mamata has also pitched for a federal front and has met with Opposition chief minister, K. Chandrashekhar Rao, N. Chandrababu Naidu, Arvind Kejriwal and Naveen Pattanaik. In a surprise move, NDA ally Shiv Sena marched under the Trinamul Congress’ leadership to Rashtrapati Bhavan in protest against demonetisation.

And as if on cue, it is not just Mamata Banerjee who is upset with Rahul Gandhi being ‘ready’ for becoming Prime Minister. Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar has also ‘warned‘ Rahul Gandhi over his remarks. He urged Rahul Gandhi to avoid making such premature remarks about the prime ministership until the parliamentary elections are over.

Prime Minister Modi’s assassination plot by ISIS terrorists revealed by Gujarat ATS

Gujarat ATS (Anti Terror Squad) has filed a chargesheet an Ankleshwar court which reveals the intention of an individual, arrested earlier, to assassinate Prime Minister Narendra Modi with a sniper rifle.

The chargesheet mentions that the intention to target Prime Minister was expressed in a conversation on a messaging app by Ubaid Mirza, an aide of an alleged ISIS operative, which was extracted from his phone and pen drive. “Yeah, let’s take out Modi with a sniper rifle.” – the chargesheet mentions the statement admitted by the alleged operatives.

Mirza, a practicing lawyer and Kasim Stimberwala, a lab technician in Sardar Patel Hospital and Heart Institute in Ankleshwar since March last year, were both residents of Surat and were arrested from Ankleshwar by ATS on October 25, 2017. ATS further informed that Kasim Stimberwala had resigned three weeks before he was arrested and was planning to escape to Jamaica to join the jihadi activities under a radical preacher Shaikh Abdullah Al Faisal.

He had applied for a job in Jamaica’s Pinnacle Healthcare Limited. ATS officials have found a work permit in his name from September 22, 2017, to September 21, 2019. ATS has extracted these details from the suspected IS agents who have turned informants.

The two of them were arrested last year in October on reports of a suspected attack during the Gujarat assembly polls. Later the ATS revealed that the two were allegedly planning lone wolf attack on Jews in Mumbai and Ahmedabad. We had earlier reported about the footprints of IS in the country.

Securing citizens or playing politics? : The excessive ‘politicisation’ of the Kerala police

A Kerala state intelligence report has revealed that there is “too much politicisation” in the police force, as reported by Matrubhumi. This intelligence report thus claimed that such an outlook would affect the police force’s credibility.

New Indian Express reports that, this “politicising” has been hampering the “effective and neutral policing” in the state. This report was submitted by the intelligence officials to the state’s police chief Loknath Behera.

The intelligence report also complained about the politically styled slogans and martyr commemoration during police association meetings. As per the report, such sloganeering were observed during association meetings held at Ernakulam Rural, Kozhikode and Pathanamthitta districts. This was termed as a blot on the police force’s image and a contravention of the service rules.

Even though it isn’t clear as to what the report insinuated via the term “martyr slogans”, media reports in recent days have reported instances of policemen raising slogans for the deceased CPM workers.

It is not clear whether the intelligence department has made recommendations with regards to the problem plaguing the state police.

While speaking about the intelligence report, the police chief has assured that the matter will be taken seriously and action would be taken against the offending parties.

The supposed political biases of the Kerala cops were also noticed when the BJP office in Trivandrum was attacked by CPM goons, during which most of the policemen, who were tasked with its security, appeared to remain mere bystanders.

The politicisation of Kerala’s police force was also insinuated by RSS leader J Nandakumar, who alleged that the Kerala police collude with the communists. As per him, many policemen – whom he referred to as goons – were members of the trade unions or other outfits affiliated to communist organisations, and instead of protecting the citizens from the red terror, they either played the role of a mute witness, or worse – helped the communists in spreading the terror.

NDTV in soup : BSE confirm promoters Prannoy and Radhika Roy receiving a show cause notice from IT dept

In a confirmation of the mounting troubles for NDTV’s promoters Prannoy and Radhika Roy, the media company has informed the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) of them receiving a show cause notice from the Income Tax department in March.

As per a press release issued by the BSE on 8 May, the aforementioned Executive Co-Chairpersons of NDTV had received a show cause notice from the Principal Commissioner of Income Tax dated 3 March 2018, with regards to the assessment year 2009-10.

The BSE also uploaded the letter which was sent to it by NDTV’s company secretary Hemant Kumar Gupta:

NDTV confirms the troubles its promoters Prannoy and Radhika Roy are facing from the IT department
NDTV’s letter to BSE. Via BSE India

As seen above, the Company Secretary and Compliance Officer in a letter dated 8 March had informed the national stock exchange that the Roys’ had received a show cause notice on 7 March from the Income Tax department under section 279(1) of the Income Tax Act.

NDTV claimed that as a result of that it was examining legal options available to the company with regards to the show cause notice.

This case pertains to the IT Department levying a penalty of Rs. 436.80 crores for the assessment year 2009-10. The channel had later approached the Delhi High Court which had refused to intervene in the matter and in turn asked the channel to approach the Commissioner of Income Tax (Appeals).

The Principal Commissioner of Income Tax had refused to stay the demand and instructed the channel to pay 30% of the penalty amount in a staggered manner by 15th June 2018. The said three instalments of this amount had to be paid on 15 April, 15 May and 15 June respectively.

The news of such a letter to the BSE comes in the light of NDTV having to sell a stake in its subsidiary to its landlord, as a form of paying its outstanding rent.

LeT terrorist apprehended in Kashmir : ‘Indian Army could have killed me, but saved my life instead’

A Lashkar e Taiba (LeT) terrorist from Pakistan, was arrested by the Indian Army. He has thanked the Indian Army for saving his life. He has also urged the fellow terrorists to go back home by quitting militancy.

According to India TV report, LeT terrorist Ajaz Gujri has made a confession in a video has said that the Indian Army could have killed him but saved his life instead. He said he was hiding in the bushes when the army arrested him instead of killing him. He also said that it was them who fired the bullets first, but Army soldiers did not fire back at them.

He has also exposed Pakistan’s role in spreading terror across Kashmir. Gujri said, the Indian Army could have killed him but saved his life instead.

He made an earnest appeal to the Kashmiri youth to give up arms to return to peaceful means. “I appeal to them that they should come back home to their parents”, he said.

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z3ksSbBzobM]

Gujri was one among the four terrorists who were arrested by the security personnel in raids in the Baramulla district on Wednesday. Apart from the four militants, seven overground workers were also arrested. Pakistan tries continually to create instability in India. In a recent report, India today had revealed that Pakistan’s Inter-Service Intelligence(ISI) with Lashkar e Taiba had planned to free the terrorists lodged in jails and train them to wage jihad in a move to terrorize Jammu and Kashmir.

The operation to nab the terrorists and their over-ground supporters were launched by the Baramulla police in coordination with the Indian Army and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) following the murder of three civilians on April 30. The Indian Army has proved its respect for Human Rights yet again and it is a scathing indictment of intellectuals who question its seriousness in adoring Human Rights.

It’s official: The ecosystem has given up on Kejriwal and moved back to Congress

0

Congress’ grip on the ecosystem, the academics, media houses and NGOs have been so strong that when Aam Aadmi Party, a political outfit sprouted from an NGO, the feeling of oneness took over and Kejriwal became everyone’s blue-eyed boy. People we so impressed that Rahul Gandhi, who was then the vice president of the grand old party, even said he would like to learn from the success of AAP.

And learn he did.

As we had reported last year in January, Rahul Gandhi has been doing everything AAP has done, or rather what Kejriwal has done. As could be seen, when Kejriwal accused Modi of working for Ambani-Adani, Rahul Gandhi said Modi only works for rich industrialists. During demonetization, when Kejriwal attacked Paytm, Rahul said: “Paytm means Pay to Modi”. When Kejriwal says Modi took bribes, Rahul says Modi took bribes. Both have blamed the media for being under ‘pressure’ from Modi government for not being critical enough of the central government. He even aped the farce that ‘fast’ is in Aam Aadmi Party.

And now that Rahul has Kejrified, and Kejriwal has morphed into a caricature in himself, media has again shifted their focus back to Rahul Gandhi and Congress.

You see, Kejriwal symbolized power without Congress. The Congress-led establishment, the NGOs, academics, media houses and everything minus the Congress itself. AAP was the ‘establishment’ officially trying to be government, without the mask. Know how criminals enter politics when they realise they could get the power themselves for the dirty work they do instead of doing it for other politicians? AAP was born out of the ecosystem when they realised why bother helping Congress win when you can get the power yourself. Example, founding member and now ousted member Yogendra Yadav was appointed by UPA on the National Advisory Committee (NAC) on Right to Education (RTE). In fact, Congress leader Digvijaya Singh had even accused Kejriwal of having approached him to push his name in Sonia-Gandhi led NAC.

The ecosystem was trying to get rid of Congress to rule directly. Kejriwal was their hope.

But now it seems they have abandoned all hope. The ecosystem has now gone back to showing Rahul Gandhi, who has already positioned himself as UPA’s prime ministerial candidate for 2019. That despite the 2014 debacle, Congress and Rahul Gandhi were still their best bet.

So now, every time Rahul Gandhi manages to do even the smallest of the things right, he is hailed as the greatest visionary India has ever produced, even by those who are AAP inclined.

There have been instances where a journalist like Sagarika Ghose took to abusing an author who asked a tough question to Rahul Gandhi in Singapore and softball interviews of Rahul Gandhi where interviewer even expresses her desire to meet the real Pidi. With nowhere else to go, the ecosystem stayed invested in the Dynasty.

However, there’s a difference between Rahul Gandhi and his ancestors who controlled the ecosystem. While the party interests got priority in times of Indira and Sonia, Rahul, with very little to boast of, seems to be happy giving away the control to the establishment.

And precisely why the establishment has ditched Kejriwal and moved back to Congress.
