Special Task Force of Kolkata police busts racket smuggling arms from Rifle factory to Maoists

In a huge victory for the Kolkata police, a special task force (STF) of Kolkata police arrested six persons including two Rifle Factory Ishapore (RFI) officials from the Babughat area in connection with arms being smuggled to Maoists on 7th may.

The STF seized seven revolvers, one carbine and ten rounds of ammunition from the miscreants. Kolkata Police, Deputy Commissioner, STF, stated that STF acted on a tip-off and laid a trap at the Babughat area and caught four men with arms.

Two of the miscreants, Ajay Kumar Pandey and Jayashankar Pandey were arrested by the STF from Bihar’s Nalanda District and Umesh Roy and Kartik Shaw was arrested from Ichchapur in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas.

According to the deputy commissioner, after the interrogation of Ajay and Jayashankara, they got to know about the involvement of junior work managers Sushanta Basu and Sukhda Murmur. The managers were arrested from their respective residences in the North 24 Parganas District.

The STF suspects this racket has been active since 2008 and the accused were supplying arms and ammunition to Maoists in Bihar. It is believed that these two junior officers helped to get the arms out of the rifle factory. Talking about the modus operandi of these smugglers, the officer remarked that often times the scrapped items were repaired outside the factory and then sold to the Maoists. The amount fetched for such arms in the black market is around 4 lakh. The smugglers supplied arms which were meant for the Indian army to such terror groups.

“They (the arrested) used to smuggle out parts of the arms scrapped by the rifle factory and these smugglers used to mend and sell them to Maoists in Bihar,” – the officer stated.

A large number of Insas and Slr’s were among the arms supplied to the Maoists in Bihar –

“Ajoy and Jayasankar have admitted that they had smuggled out 16 Insas rifle and several SLRs a couple of years ago and had sold them to Maoists in Bihar”.

The STF has brought charges of criminal conspiracy, The Arms act, and dealing with stolen property against the accused.

In a hilarious faux pas Siddaramaiah says ‘every vote for Narendra Modi is a vote for me’

0

As the final leg of campaigning for Karnataka elections is on, the Narendra Modi factor has clouded the minds of people and Congress party. The Modi factor has particularly rattled the current chief minister Siddaramiah. He has been actively attempting to counter the PM’s rallies on Twitter. Recently he has also sent a notice to the PM and Amit Shah for spreading lies about him.

Modi worry seems to be affecting Siddaramaiah offline as well. While campaigning for a Congress candidate named Narendra Swami in Malavalli (Mandya district) he ended up saying, Narendra Modi. In his first faux pas, he said that development works like roads, water supply and housing had happened because of Narendra Modi. Even after he was corrected on the first occasion, he made a second faux pas where he said that ‘a vote for Narendra Modi is a vote for me’.

Translation of his words :

First faux pas: In all the villages if the work related to concrete roads, drainages, drinking water and housing has happened, it is because of Narendra Modi and my government…sorry…Narendra Swamy. [crowd shouts] Narendra is important. We have our Swami here, Modi is from Gujarat. Narendra Modi is a lie, Narendra Swamy is true.

Second faux pas: So, please listen, every vote you give to Narendra Modi is a vote for me. [someone corrects again] sorry Narendra Swamy.

Congress can proudly add these two brand new mistakes to their illustrious list of faux pas’.

Nirmala Sitharaman criticizes victim blaming in rape cases

Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman criticized the claim about a woman’s attire is the reason behind rape. Sitharaman, the first woman Defence Minister of India was addressing an event organized by FICCI titled –“Stories that Matter”. She called for a change of mindset in matters regarding the safety and dignity of women.

Often times, people blame the victim and engage in moral policing whenever an incident of rape takes place. Sitharaman pointed out that the elderly and toddlers also get raped, and hence clothing has nothing to with rapes.

The minister also spoke about a much needed proactive role of law agencies in providing safety to women and preventing such instances from happening.

As indicated by earlier reports most of the times the rapist is a known face to the victim. The minister talked about how law agencies must take cognizance of such facts and incorporate them in their investigations accordingly.

“Out of every 10 such incidents, seven are committed by people who know the victim– relative, friends, neighbour. Law enforcement agencies need to be far more proactive, I concede all that,” she stated.

DMK opposes Hindu rituals performed during foundation stone ceremony of Jayalalithaa’s memorial

Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami and Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam laid the foundation stone for the construction of a memorial of former Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, on Monday. The memorial will be constructed on the Marina Beach in Chennai and is expected to cost about Rs 50 crores.

As reported by The Pioneer, the ceremony was held in a Vedic manner, under the watch of two Brahmin priests. The Vedic rituals included recitation of Vedic hymns and chanting Nadaswaram music. A Yagna too was performed at the occasion.

Such Vedic rituals though earned the ire of the opposition DMK which as per a News Minute report has called it a violation of the state’s “secular credentials”. As per DMK spokesperson A Saravanan, conducting such a religious ceremony in a government function was not acceptable. After calling the act a violation of the “secular fabric” of the country, he claimed that there was no place for religious symbols in a state property.

Besides this, the Pioneer report quoted Saravanan as claiming that the religious ceremony including Yagna was, “AIADMK’s was of paying obeisance to the BJP, their masters”.

Besides attacking the religious ceremony, the DMK has also came down on the memorial itself by calling it a violation of democratic norms. As per DMK’s working president MK Stalin, Jayalalithaa was the prime accused in the disproportionate assets case, and hence constructing a memorial for her was equivalent to erecting a memorial for someone jailed for corruption charges.

The chief of PMK – S. Ramadoss too jumped into the controversy and called memorial’s construction as “crowning corruption, owing to Jayalalithaa sullying Tamil Nadu’s image as a corrupt state”.

Objections have also been raised by the opposition over the AIADMK supposedly furnishing the memorial’s cost from the taxpayer’s money, and not using their party fund for the same.

Bareilly dargah issues fatwa urging Indian Muslims not to support Jinnah

The senior mufti of the Dargah-e-Ala Hazrat in Bareilly has issued a fatwa, or an Islamic edict urging Indian Muslims not to support Jinnah, in fact, remove all pictures and portraits of Jinnah.

The senior body of the Bareilly dargah sets precedent over the row of Jinnah’s portrait, saying that it’s erroneous to stand in support of Jinnah as ‘Jinnah was the architect of India’s division.’ It further said that Jinnah deserves no glorification, as he was instrumental in the division of ‘Akhand Bharat’ and the misery the people had to face that time, even the Muslims for that matter, cannot be forgotten or forgiven. Jinnah believed in the two-nation theory and Indian’s rejected his divisive ideology.

Recently, the Muslim Mahasangh chief too had condemned Jinnah’s poster in the AMU, announcing a reward for tearing any such posters. He said that Pakistan has not put up any photos of Mahatma Gandhi who played the most significant role in the freedom struggle of the country, so there was no valid reason for us to put up photos of Jinnah.

The controversy had erupted when reports emerged that a portrait of Jinnah had been displayed on the walls of the Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) student union office. Aligarh MP and BJP leader Satish Gautam last Monday wrote to Vice Chancellor Tariq Mansoor objecting to Pakistan founder’s picture on the walls of the AMUSU office. Defending the portrait, apparently hanging there for decades, AMU spokesman Shafey Kidwai had, a day later, said that Jinnah was a founder member of the University Court and granted life membership of the student union.

Security tightened as posters threatening destruction of temples found in Mathura

Several posters were reportedly seen in Mathura which threatened destruction of prominent temples in Mathura, Vrindavan, Varanasi, Gorakhpur, and Ayodhya within 48 hours. Police responded quickly by removing these posters and increasing vigilance in the area.

The news of the posters on the walls of a school and RPF (Railway Protection Force) barrack, located on Mal Godam Road, was received by in-charge C.B. Prasad on Saturday evening. The posters proclaimed demolition of Kashi Vishwanath temple in Banaras. According to reports, he did not find any posters on the spot but informed the senior officials since the matter was sensitive. GRP (Government Railway Police) in-charge Gaurav Saxena had also received the same information. UP DGP has asked Mathura SSP Prabhakar Chaudhary for a report and filing of FIR against unidentified individuals. He has promised that law and order in the state will be maintained at all costs. All others posters who pulled down from other parts of the city. The Police has assured that the culprits will be brought to book as soon as possible.

Important places such as Krishna Janmabhoomi have been placed under constant vigil and drones are being used for monitor the campuses. All activities in the areas inside and outside the temples are recorded. In-charge of Highway police station Udaiveer Singh Malik informed that this might well be the notoriety of few anti-social elements. However the police will take this issue seriously.

Modi govt sets up multi-disciplinary group to choke the funding received by Maoists

The Home Ministry has set up a multi-disciplinary group in order to choke the funding received by left-wing extremists, Times of India has reported. This multi-disciplinary group will comprise of officials from intelligence and investigative agencies of both the central and state governments who are battling the leftist terror groups.

As per a PTI report, the officials in the group belong to agencies like the Intelligence Bureau, Enforcement Directorate, NIA, CBI among others. Besides this, the Home Ministry is also in the process of creating a segment within the NIA which will investigate cases relating to these groups.

The officials believe that the source of funding for the left-wing extremists like the Maoists includes extortion money collected from private contractors who are involved in government projects, mining contracts, transportation and even the owners of small to medium scale industries.

It is also believed that the Maoists and others earn via the distribution of their ideology papers.

This money earned by the Maoists though is ironically diverted by the top leadership towards their personal wealth, which is then used to extend comfortable facilities to their families and provide top quality education to their children.

This as per the TOI report is the exact opposite of the Maoists’ practice of forcing young children to join their extremist group and stifle development activities in their areas of influence.

A Home Ministry official has claimed that their measures to curb such funding has seen success in blocking the Maoist funding in states like Bihar and Jharkhand after they painstakingly gathered intelligence.

Back in November, there was an indication that the government would clamp down on funding received by left-wing terrorists after it was reported that the National Investigative Agency (NIA) was planning on focusing on the income sources of Naxals.

The agency back then was scheduled to investigate an inter-state module involving Jharkhand and Telangana while also actively probing the Maoist trail in Telangana.

Why are self proclaimed liberals also terrorist sympathisers?

0

Terrorists may be religious fanatics with murderous tendencies and armed with the will to kill, but their sympathisers are the self-proclaimed liberals, armed with a keyboard who will almost always find something to blame, usually the State, which triggered the otherwise peace-loving, God-fearing person into being a terrorist.

Mohammad Rafi Bhat was recently neutralized by Indian security forces in an encounter with the terror organization Hizbul Mujahideen with which Bhat had aligned himself. He was an assistant professor at Kashmir University. The usual suspects were out in full force to defend him saying that the soft-spoken and humble Bhat took to arms because of unrest in Kashmir.

Controversial publication The Quint, which had declared Kulbhushan Jadhav an Indian spy, decided to show Mohammad Rafi as a victim of the state.

As if that was not enough, media entrepreneur Raghav Bahl, who otherwise doesn’t quite believe in fact-checking, and founder of the website ‘The Quint’ added his two cents by trying to blame the State for ‘PhD scholars taking to arms’.

The article goes on to state how growing up in Kashmir, he witnessed violence which ‘sorely troubled him’ but the neutralization of Burhan Wani (armed terrorist touted as headmaster’s son by “eminent journalist” Barkha Dutt) by security forces was perhaps the last straw.

The article block quotes his last call to his father where he asks for forgiveness, because nothing like bringing in the old parents, who are oblivious of their children’s murderous intentions, to sensitize the audience.

And then The Quint goes on to explain how the slain terrorist was a ‘prisoner of conscience and not a religious fanatic’ because he ‘always talked about human rights violation by Indian forces’.

People who had met the young scholar advocated peace and didn’t subscribe to the idea of violence for political struggle. Till now only barbaric acts of Mughal and other Islamic invaders were whitewashed but now, even terrorists and terror enthusiasts are also whitewashed under the garb of liberalism.

Terrorist Mohammad Rafi Bhat, who was also selected as PhD research scholar at Jawaharlal Nehru University, couldn’t keep his promise to his wife of five years of returning home, because just after delivering a lecture to his students like every day, our man just decided to join a terrorist organization to ‘meet Allah‘.

And then as if on cue, in block quotes comes the blame on Indian state for ‘soft-spoken’ scholars turning jihadis.

Amusing how Indians state is responsible for churning out Islamist terrorists who picked up guns because of violence in the name of religious fanaticism, but we have hardly ever heard of Kashmiri Pandits taking up arms for the exodus of 3,00,000 Kashmiri Pandits from Kashmir on 19th January, 1990.

This is not the first time The Quint has tried to humanize terrorists. Earlier, too, The Quint had tried to show how Osama was a caring father and husband.

We’ve seen in the past how the media and self-styled intellectuals sympathised with Burhan Wani, the slain Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist, who was actively recruiting and inspiring many young and educated boys in South Kashmir, including Mohammad Rafi Bhat, and turning into terrorists. While former Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullah and senior NDTV journalist Vikram Chandra had even dished out clean chits to the terrorist, Barkha Dutt even attempted to humanise him by adding that he was the son of a school teacher, as if being the son of a teacher obliviated him of his crimes. Leftist heroes like Kavita Krishnan had also referred to the terrorist’s killing as ‘extra-judicial killing’. India Today journalist Rahul Kanwal tried to justify Wani’s radicalization on lack of economic opportunities.

Which makes one wonder, lack of which economic opportunity triggered the professor at Kashmir University Mohammad Rafi Bhat to pick up guns? And lack of what triggers the so-called liberals to justify terrorist activities?

Kapil Sibal withdraws SC petition filed against rejection of CJI impeachment notice by the President

In a dramatic sequence of events, former Union Minister and senior advocate Kapil Sibal has today withdrawn the petition filed by two Congress MPs against the Rajya Sabha Chairman and Vice President Venkaiah Naidu’s rejection of the impeachment motion against CJI Deepak Mishra.

According to reports, the Supreme Court dismissed the petition as withdrawn by Sibal. The petition was filed by Congress MPs Pratap Singh Bajwa and Harshadray Yajnik. Sibal had reportedly demanded a copy of the administrative order issued by the CJI for setting up the bench for hearing the matter. But the SC reportedly refused to oblige. According to reports, Sibal’s appearance representing the two Congress MPs was opposed by two advocates namely RP Luthra and Ashwini Upadhyay but the court had decreed that it was up to Sibal to decide whether to argue the case or not.

The five-judge bench was reportedly ready to hear Sibal on the merit of the petition but Sibal insisted that he will not argue unless he was given a copy of the administrative order. The court reportedly asked repeatedly about the purpose of Sibal obtaining the copy of the order and asked him to argue on the merit of the petition instead but Sibal insisted that he will only decide whether to argue after receiving the copy. When the court refused to provide the order, Sibal reportedly withdrew the petition abruptly.

According to reports, Attorney General KK Venugopal had asked that when 64 MPs from different parties have signed the notice of impeachment, how can only two MPs of one party have a grievance against the Rajya Sabha Chairman’s decision to reject it.

The five-judge bench of Justice AK Siri, SA Bobde, NV Ramana, Arun Mishra and AK Goel later dismissed the petition as withdrawn.

Trouble mounts for Congress as resort in Badami constituency is raided by Income Tax sleuths, reports

The Congress Party in Karnataka has been hit by Income Tax raids in Badami Constituency of Bagalkot District, according to a report in the New Indian Express. Interestingly, Badami Constituency is a seen as a hotbed of the incumbent Chief Minister as he contests against heavyweight B Sriramulu from BJP.

The IT Raids have been on the premises of the resort owned by relative of Congress Leader Anand Singh. Anand Singh is also an accused in cases of illegal mining.

IT Raids on the resorts owned by Congress Leaders

The Income Tax Officers Team headed by a Joint Director and 10 other officers raided the Krishna Heritage Resort at 11 pm last night. The KPCC working president S R Patil, MLC C M Ibrahim and others were also present. Siddaramaiah had earlier stayed in the resort when he had campaigned in the constituency recently. These raids are likely to put Siddaramaiah on the back foot as BJP is already raking up the allegation of his nexus with fugitives like Vijay Eshwaran.

CM Siddaramaiah accused BJP and Narendra Modi of doing vendetta politics at the time of elections. Badami constituency is one of the two constituencies that Chief Minister is contesting from. He is contesting from Chamundeshwari constituency of Mysore district where he is facing another heavyweight G T Devegowda from Janatha Dal (Secular).
