0

The maternal uncle of the 20-year-old girl, who was killed after her scooty was allegedly hit by a car and dragged for a few kilometres in Delhi on Sunday, claimed that the fateful incident was not an accident and raised suspicion of wrongdoing with the deceased.

Denying the claims of an accident, the victim’s maternal uncle said, “The girl was dragged for around 10 meters. Scooty and the body has been found in two different places.” “It is not an accident, after seeing that girl alone, something wrong must have happened with her, that’s why the scooty and the body were found at two different places,” he alleged. Earlier in the day, the police informed that a woman was killed after being hit by a car and then dragged for a few kilometres on the road, being entangled in the wheels. The condition of the woman was so bad, that after being dragged on, her clothes and even the back side of her body got ripped off.

The victim’s mother told ANI, “She used to work for events. My daughter left home yesterday evening at around 5-6 pm, saying that she will return.”

“I called her at 9 pm to bring vegetables while returning home. She told me that she’ll return by 10-11 pm. After that, I didn’t recieve her call and I took medicines and went off to sleep and don’t know what happened in between,” the deceased mother said,” adding that the next morning a call came regarding the incident.

She said that she hadn’t seen her daughter, since then and had not received information about her.

DCP Outer Delhi, Harendra K Singh told ANI that the accused was apprehended on the basis of the registered car number.

“Police apprehended the accused on the basis of the registered car number. During the probe, the accused said that their car met with an accident with the victim’s scooty but they were unaware that she was dragged along with their car for several kilometres,” he said.

Delhi Commission of Women (DCW) had also issued a summon to the Delhi Police, in connection with the case.

It wasn’t the first such tragedy at a Chandrababu Naidu event, recently, on December 28, a similar incident took place at Naidu’s rally in Kandukur, in which 8 people died.

Chandrababu Naidu’s rally reached Vikas Nagar in Guntur where the Sankranti gift distribution program was organised. That is when a stampede broke out and led to the loss of 3 lives. Many others are feared to be injured. The injured are being treated in the local government hospital.

Arif Hafeez, SP Guntur said, “Three people died and several were injured during a public meeting held by TDP leader N Chandrababu Naidu in Guntur district.”

Chandrababu Naidu was on a tour of different areas of the Nellore district from December 28 to 30. Delhi: Young woman dies after car drags her for 7-8 kms, police say it was an accident and arrest 5 people but locals give a different version

A young woman died in Delhi after she was dragged by a car for a long distance after the two-wheeler she was riding was knocked down by the speeding car. The incident happened in Kanjhawala, Delhi early in the morning on 1st January 2023.

According to police, after her scooter was hit by the Baleno car, the young woman’s clothes got entangled in the wheels of the car, due to which she was dragged to a distance of about 7 to 8 kilometres. She died in this accident. All the clothes on her body were torn, and the body of the young woman was found naked on the road.

Later the police identified the owner of the car based on the registration of the car and then arrested five people who were in the vehicle. Further investigation into the case is underway.

Police said that this case is of an accident. According to DCP Outer, the Outer Delhi Police received information in the early hours of the morning that a dead body was hanging in a vehicle, which was going toward Qutubgarh. The police team reached the spot and started searching for the vehicle.

Meanwhile, the police received information that the naked body of a young woman was lying on the road in the Kanjhawala area. The crime team was called to the spot and forensic evidence was also collected. The body has been sent for post-mortem. When the police started searching for the car, the car was found in a damaged state in Sultanpuri.

At the same time, the police also found a scooter damaged in the accident. According to the police, after the accident, it was found that a young woman riding a scooty was trapped in the wheels of the overspeeding car and the car was dragging her far away.

A video of the spot has surfaced, in which the body is found naked. In such a situation, the police are investigating the case in all aspects. In the initial information, the police described this case as an accident. Investigation revealed that after the accident, the girl was dragged a long way and she died as she was stuck in the wheels of the car, due to which her clothes were also torn.

The accused young boys were under the influence of alcohol and were returning home from Murthal Sonipat to their home in Mangolpuri when the young girl riding a scooty was hit by this car near Sultanpuri. The girl then got trapped under the car and the accused boys dragged her 7-8 km away. However, the accused youths have claimed that while their car had met with an accident with the scooter, they were not aware that the girl was dragged by their car for such a long distance. The police also denied the claims on social media that the girl was sexually assaulted.

A passerby saw the girl’s body trapped under the car near Jonti village in Kanjhawala and called the police. It has been learned that the girl was returning home after working as a welcome girl at a private function late last night. While returning, she met with the accident. At present, the police have arrested the accused Amit, who was driving the car, Kalu who was sitting next to him, and three others. The damaged Baleno car (DL8 CAY 6414) is registered in the name of Lokesh Prasad Sharma.

Delhi Commission for Women chief Swati Maliwal expressed her sentiments for the deceased young woman and issued a notice to the police. She tweeted, “The naked body of a girl was found in Delhi’s Kanjhawala, it is being told that some boys in an inebriated state hit her scooter with a car and dragged her for several kilometers. This matter is very dangerous, I am issuing an appearance summons to Delhi Police. The whole truth should come out.” She also questioned the security arrangements made by the Delhi police on new year’s eve.

Harendra K Singh, DCP Outer Delhi said, “The police apprehended the accused on the basis of the registered car number. During the probe, the accused said that their car met with an accident with the victim’s scooty but they were unaware that she was dragged along with their car for several kilometers.”

He added, “It is not true that the victim was sexually assaulted. It is being wrongly circulated on social media. We will take action against those responsible for spreading such news.” Further investigation into this case is going on.

Eyewitnesses give a different version

While the police have said that it is a case of an accident and the girl died after she was dragged by the car for 7-8 kilometres, locals in the area have refuted the claim. Talking to ABP News, multiple people who claimed to have witnessed the incident claimed that the girl was thrown out of the moving car in a naked state. They claimed that there was not much sign of injury on the body that would be caused by getting dragged for such a long distance.

Some people also claimed that a police PCR vehicle was following the car when the girl was thrown out, however, they were not sure if the car was being chased by the police. They also said that nobody saw any incident of the accident as claimed by the police, and all they saw was the naked dead body lying on the road after it was thrown from the car. One man categorically claimed that the victim was deliberately killed and she didn’t meet with any accident. He also claimed that the clothes of the girl were removed, they weren’t torn due to dragging.

The eyewitnesses also questioned how the girl’s body reached the spot if she was dragged after her clothes got tangled with the car, as there were no clothes on her body.

The case against Umar Khalid

Umar Khalid, an alleged student activist, was arrested by the Delhi Police following his role emerged in the alleged larger conspiracy behind the 2020 anti-Hindu Delhi Riots. He, along with others, was booked under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act or UAPA and relative provisions of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for being the masterminds of the riots. Notably, 53 people lost their lives, and 700 were injured during the riots that spurred on the pretext of the Citizen Amendment Act 2019 and the National Register of Citizens (NRC).

The Delhi High Court dismissed Khalid’s bail plea in October last year. It said that prima-facie, the anti-CAA and NRC protests that resulted in the riots, were orchestrated at various meetings he had attended. Though a Delhi Court had acquitted him and one other accused in one of the cases linked to the Delhi Riots 2020, Umar Khalid remained in jail for the connection in other cases.

Love triangle gone wrong: Khalid kills his friend Rocky for frequently visiting his love interest Janum, who was married to another guy

On December 31, Ghaziabad Police arrested a man identified as 22-year-old Khalid for allegedly killing his 18-year-old friend Rocky. The police have also arrested a 35-year-old woman named Janum for being an accomplice in the crime. All three were residents of Kalchhina village, Ghaziabad.

Krishan Pal, the father of Rocky, filed a missing person’s complaint about his son at Bhojpur police station on December 30. The police registered a case under Section 363 (kidnapping) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), and two teams were formed to find Rocky. Assistant Commissioner of Police of Modinagar, Sunil Kumar Singh, said in a statement that Rocky was seen with Khalid before disappearing.

Police took Khalid in custody for questioning, where he confessed to the crime. Based on Khalid’s information, Rocky’s dead body was recovered from a sugarcane field and sent for post-mortem. ACP Singh said, “Khalid told cops that Rocky and he used to visit a general store run by Janum in the village while Janum’s husband was in Delhi for work. Over the past several months, Khalid and Rocky had developed feelings for Janum. A few days ago, Khalid confessed to Janum that he did not like Rocky visiting her and both planned to eliminate him.”

Khalid was not pleased with Rocky’s regular visits to Janum, and he told her about it. They decided to eliminate Rocky and planned to kill him. ACP added that on December 28, Khalid called Rocky to his place at around 4 PM. Rocky accompanied Khalid to the field on the pretext of watering it. Khalid waited for dark and then took Rocky to a pond nearby, where he strangulated him. Khalid then hid Rocky’s body in a field nearby.

A case was registered under Sections 302, 201, and 120B of the IPC against Khalid and Janum.

‘Stop Uorfi Javed, her open display of female body is disgrace to Indian culture and civilization’, BJP leader writes to Mumbai Police Commissioner

Uorfi Javed has always been in the news for her outfits and bold looks. Unhappy with her unusual sense of fashion, several people have filed complaints against her in the past. In the latest such development, Maharashtra BJP leader Chitra Wagh directly met the Mumbai police commissioner on 1st January 2023 and demanded action against Uorfi Javed.

BJP leader Chitra Wagh recently met Mumbai Police Commissioner Vivek Phansalkar and complained about Uorfi Javed roaming the streets of Mumbai wearing revealing outfits. She has also given a letter to the Mumbai Police Commissioner. Chitra Wagh has also tweeted that she has demanded to ‘Stop Uorfi Javed who has become an open display of the female body’.

In her tweet, Chitra Wagh wrote, “Met Mumbai’s honorable Commissioner of Police and also met the Joint Commissioner Law and Order and demanded immediate legal action to be taken against who roams the streets of Mumbai exhibiting a lewd and lascivious display of her body in public places.”

In her letter addressed to the Commissioner, Chitra Wagh wrote, “The actress Uorfi Javed’s display of her body on the street has become a topic of discussion on social media. No one would have imagined that the right to conduct, thought, and freedom guaranteed by the Constitution would manifest itself in such an open naked manner. The very lowly, disgusting display of the female body in the public places of Mumbai on the streets is a disgrace to Indian culture and civilization.”

She added, “Society has nothing to do with what the actress should do in her personal life. However, the way this actress presents her body as a public display just to get publicity is irritating. If she wants to showcase her body, she must do it behind the four walls, but the actress may not be aware that she is feeding the perverted attitude of society with such a provoking act. The Bharatiya Janata Party Mahila Morcha demands that the actress be immediately dealt with strictly under the relevant law for the act.” She has also tagged both Mumbai Police and BJP in the tweet.

Chitra Wagh had also expressed her anger in a tweet about the same two days ago. She has also tagged The Mumbai Police in this tweet.

In that tweet, Chitra Wagh wrote, “Shi…! Oh… What is going on in Mumbai? Whether Mumbai Police have any IPC/CRPC to stop this lady who is openly displaying nudity on the streets. Shackle her immediately. On one hand, innocent women/girls are victims of perverts, while this woman is spreading more pervert.” Such a tweet was made by Chitra Wagh. She has now given a letter to the police. Now it will be important to see if action is taken against Uorfi Javed.

Last month, one advocate named Ali Kaashif Khan Deshmukh had filed a complaint against the actor at Andheri Police Station, for allegedly committing illegal and obscene acts on social media and public places. The lawyer claimed that the acts of Uorfi Javed are obscene as per section 294 of IPC.

‘Mann Ki Baat’ earns almost five times more than it spends on ads, PM Modi had directed officials to curb promotional expenditure

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s monthly radio broadcast ‘Mann Ki Baat’ was one of his unique attempts to connect with the masses after coming to power in May 2014.

While people listened to the radio occasionally and preferred FM stations, PM Modi brought the focus of the nation back to the national broadcaster ‘All India Radio (AIR)’. ‘Mann ki Baat’ became the talk of the town with its monthly broadcast. Scores of people would wait in anticipation of the program to hear what PM Modi will talk about that month.

It wasn’t just an expense for the national broadcaster, as they also started earning revenues from it. It has now come to light that the program fetched almost 5 times in revenue than the amount spent on advertising and promotions for the show.

This information was revealed in two RTI queries filed by activist Vivek Pandey. He received a response, from the Office of the Additional Director General about the year-on-year gross revenue generated by Mann ki Baat from 2014 to October 2022.

Pandey also received another RTI response about the expenditure on promotions and advertising of Mann ki Baat from the Central Bureau of Communication (CBC) of the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting.

While speaking to OpIndia, Vivek Pandey informed that he filed the RTI queries after coming across media reports of ‘falling revenues’ of Mann Ki Baat between 2018 and 2021. As such, he wanted to have better clarity of the full picture.

“It was clear that revenues had fallen after the Covid-19 situation arose, but what the RTI reply has now shown is that there was zero, yes ZERO, amount of expenditure in the same duration to promote the Prime Minister’s show,” he emphasised.

Documents received from the RTI reply indeed show that there has been zero expenditure on any kind of promotion in print media, television, radio, and on digital media in the last three years.

Moreover, this expenditure didn’t go down to zero only in the last three years, but there has been no expenditure on display advertisements for ‘Mann Ki Baat’ since FY 2017-18 itself.

There were some minor expenditures on non-display promotion after 2017-18, but that too went down to zero as per the response received by Vivek Pandey to his RTI query.

Screengrab of another RTI response

As a result, ‘Mann Ki Baat’ has now earned 33.16 crores in revenues ever since it started airing, while only around ₹7.29 cores were spent on the promotion. Out of the said amount, only 5.88 crores were spent on display advertising in print.

The bulk of this expenditure was undertaken in the first year of the operation, after which the officials received instructions from the Prime Minister to not spend on the promotion of the program.

PM Modi emphasised that the objective of the exercise was to connect with the masses and revive AIR rather than promote a particular program.

Uttarakhand: Haldwani turns into a cantonment, illegal encroachments to be removed in presence of heavy police force

0

Haldwani city will resemble a cantonment throughout the month while illegal encroachments will be removed from the railway land. During this time, a large number of police forces will reach the city. The district administration has made preparations for the police force to stay in the area during the course of the demolition.

Police, administration, and railways are not going to leave any stone unturned in ensuring the peaceful removal of illegal encroachments in the area. A large number of police forces are being prepared to reach Haldwani to remove the large-scale illegal encroachment. Preparations are being made to deploy a heavy police force to remove about 50 thousand people who are dwelling in the illegally encroached area.

The district administration has started preparations to keep the police force in town. For this, arrangements are being made at International Stadium Goulapar, Extension Training Center Bagjala, Mini Stadium Haldwani, and Guru Teg Bahadur School. Arrangements are being made for food and stay in these places for the police force. Electricity, water, and toilet arrangements are also being done in the area. The administration has entrusted the responsibility to the city magistrate to make arrangements for the accommodation of the police force in the city.

District collector Dhiraj Singh Gabriyal said, “According to the demand of the railways, the administration is making arrangements for the stay of the police force, for which Goolapar Stadium, Mini Stadium, Training Center Bagjala, and Guru Teg Bahadur School have been identified. If needed, arrangements will be made for the stay of the force in other places as well.”

It is notable that thousands of Muslim residents in Haldwani staged a protest against the clearance of illegal encroachments on railway land in accordance with a High Court ruling. The demonstrators claimed that removing the illegal encroachments would make them homeless.

Jains protest at India Gate against the Jharkhand government’s decision to turn Shri Sammed Shikharji Tirth into a tourist spot

On January 1st, 2023, members of the Jain community staged a protest in the national capital against the Jharkhand government for turning Shri Sammed Shikharji, one of the prominent Jain pilgrimage sites, into an eco-tourist spot. Earlier, the Jharkhand government led by CM Hemant Soren had declared that Shri Sammed Shikharji will be a tourist place.

Protestors also raised “Sammed Shikhar Hamara Hai” slogans.  Besides, the peaceful protestors could also be heard chanting mantras in several videos that are doing the rounds on social media.

It is notable that the Jharkhand government, as a part of its tourism policy launched in July 2022, decided to promote religious tourism at Parasnath Hills, the region that nestles the revered Jain pilgrimage centre from where 20 of the total 24 Tirthankars attained salvation. Every year, thousands of Jains from across the world undertake the 27 km long trek to reach the summit that houses the salvation shrines of 20 Tirthankaras. Besides, the hills are also considered holy by the members of the Santhal tribe, who regard it as ‘Marang Buru’ and hold an annual festival here in mid-April.

The members of the Jain community are also protesting against the alleged vandalism of a temple in Gujarat’s Palitana. It is notable that the Gujarat government ordered an inquiry into the matter. Besides, the Mahant of the nearby Shiv temple clarified that no vandalism took place, only the iron poles with CCTV cameras that were set up were removed.

Reportedly, the dispute arose after the pole near the temple which had a CCTV camera on it was moved. For a long time, there were protests for a Shiv Temple on the holy hill. Mahants from across the country participated and asked for the government’s intervention. However, some miscreants had damaged the poles which had CCTV cameras at Surajkund.

Maharashtra Minister MP Lodha, who joined the protestors in Maharashtra, told ANI, “We are protesting against the vandalisation of the temple in Palitana and the Jharkhand government’s decision. The Gujarat government has taken action, but we want stricter punishments against those who vandalised the temple. More than 5 lakh people are currently on the streets.”

In Mumbai’s Borivali, Jains took out a rally against the Jharkhand government and their decision to convert Shri Sammed Shikharji Tirth into a tourist place.

Notably, the Hindu rights organisation Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) has extended support to the protesting Jain community. In a statement issued by the VHP, it is stated that the organization is bound to protect the sanctity of the pilgrimage sites of India. The entire Parshwanath hill should be declared a holy site (teerth), and no tourist activities involving meat or drugs should be permitted.

“The Ministry of Pilgrimage should be established in Jharkhand immediately so that the development of Siddha Kshetra Parshwanath mountain and all other pilgrimage sites there is in accordance with the followers of the Jain faith. The relevant notifications should be amended as needed so that Siddha Parshwanath mountain and Tirtharaj Sammed peak are never turned into tourist destinations,” the VHP statement read

VHP statement (Image tweeted by @VHPdigital)

Ever since the Jharkhand government decided to turn Shri Sammed Shikharji Tirth into a tourist spot, Jains have been carrying out peaceful protests across the country.

On December 21st, 2022, members of the Jain community observed a one-day bandh as a mark of protest.

The Jain community is concerned that the move to turn Shri Sammed Shikharji Tirth into an ecotourism destination will tarnish the religious sanctity of the site and ‘secularise’ one of the few holiest pilgrimage sites that Jains have closely guarded for thousands of years.

Members of the Jain community today took to the streets in Delhi, Maharashtra, Gujarat, and several other states, demanding that the Soren government reverse its decision to open the Shri Sammed Shikharji pilgrimage to tourists.

Pakistan: At least 24 people injured by stray bullets in Karachi after people fire in the air to celebrate the new year

At least 24 people were injured after they were hit with stray bullets on Saturday in Karachi in Pakistan when people fired guns in the air to celebrate the arrival of the New Year. Despite a ban and warning against celebratory gunfire, the city was echoed with aerial gunfire, while the police failed to put a check on such activities.

Several people, including a child and women, were injured due to aerial firing in different parts of Karachi city. As the clock ticked 12 am last night, the port city resonated with the sounds of heavy gunfire despite a ban on the display of firearms, according to reports by Pakistani media.

There were videos on social media showing people in Karachi celebrating the new year with firing their guns in the air. In one such video, a group of youths is seen riding two-wheelers while firing in the air.

People were injured by stray bullets in several parts of the city, and were brought to different hospitals. The Civil Hospital received eight injured, four injured were brought to Jinnah Hospital, and ten injured citizens, including women and children, were admitted to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for treatment.

Following the illegal firing incidents and the injuries, the police led a crackdown against miscreants who were involved in aerial firing, and during their operations, they arrested more than 10 suspects in the city. As per directions from Additional IG Karachi Javed Alam Odho, the miscreants will be booked under attempt to murder charges of the Pakistan Penal Code.

A police official said that they had already sent messages on different platforms and barred the people from resorting to aerial firing, but they did not take it seriously and now they had to face the law.

Describing how people were injured by bullets fired in the air aimed towards the sky, an official said that a bullet comes down at the speed of 300 kmph, and a bullet travelling at just 100 kmph is enough to pierce the human skin.

Similar celebratory firings took place in Lahore also, and police have arrested 20 people in the city. Many other incidents of illegal firing to celebrate the new year were also reported in other parts of the country despite warnings by the respective district administrations and the police.
