On December 31, Telangana Police arrested one Bairi Naresh, who identifies himself as an ‘atheist’, for alleged derogatory remarks against Lord Ayyappa and other Hindu deities. Naresh is the state president of Bharata Nasthika Samajam. He was arrested in the Hanamkonda district. As per reports, a case was filed against him over complaints by the Lord Ayyappa devotees after he made derogatory comments.

Crime Branch of Hyderabad Police had also booked him for making derogatory remarks. The case against Naresh was filed under Sections 153A, 295A, 208 and 505 (2) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Multiple cases against him have been filed in different police stations across states.

Reportedly, on December 29, he attended a meeting of Dalit groups in Kondagal. During the meeting, he made derogatory remarks against Lord Ayyappa while talking about his birth and used defamatory language against Lord Shiva and Lord Vishnu. The video of his remarks went viral on social media, leading to protests by the devotees.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and actor Karate Kalyani also complained to him. In her complaint, she alleged that it has become fashionable to insult Hindu deities for publicity. She demanded strict action against Naresh under appropriate sections.

BJP state president Bandi Sanjay slammed the ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS, formerly known as TRS) government. He demanded strict action against Naresh. In a statement, Sanjay accused Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao of inaction against such remarks. He alleged CM himself “encourages blasphemy without taking any action”. He said, “KCR claims to be True Hindu & his Hindutva is real BUT so far what action is taken on insults against Gods Vishnu, Shiva & Ayyappa done in Kodangal?” in a tweet.

He further pointed out that the BRS government gave security to controversial comedian Munawar Faruqui who was accused of insulting Goddess Sita. Furthermore, permissions were given to others to hold meetings where the derogatory language was used on Lord Ayyappa’s birth.

BJP MLA Raja Singh also objected inaction of the police against Naresh for two days since the incident took place.

Protests erupted over derogatory remarks

On December 30, Ayyappa Swamy devotees protested across Telangana, seeking action against Bairi Naresh, who used disparaging language against Lord Ayyappa Swamy. Bairi Naresh made derogatory statements against Lord Ayyappa Swamy in a public gathering conducted two days earlier in the Kodangal Constituency.

The video of the derogatory comments made by Bairi Naresh went viral over social media attracting massive criticism from the Lord Ayyappa Swami devotees. Police complaints demanding strict action were also filed against Bairi Naresh for hurting the sentiments of Ayyappa devotees and making obscene remarks against the Hindu God.

Mukesh Singh, the additional director general of police, stated that another suspected IED was being cleared. “Five people have been injured. “Media workers are advised to exercise caution,” Singh stated as he headed to the area.

Another police officer was quoted by HT as confirming that the IEDs appear to have been set by the terrorists who fired at three houses in Dangri before fleeing in their car on Sunday. According to reports, the terrorists verified the four men’s identification cards before opening fire.

Further details about the purported explosion are awaited.

Terrorists open fire at Hindu families in Rajouri, Jammu

On Sunday, January 1, 2023, two heavily armed terrorists barged into the houses and opened fire at Hindu families in the Dangri village near Jammu’s Rajouri district. As many as 10 people were injured, and three were declared brought dead to the hospital. One more succumbed to his injuries later in the evening. According to reports, the terrorists, who came heavily armed in a car, had first confirmed the identity of the victims, through their Aadhaar cards.

They had barged into three houses of the Hindu community at around 7 pm on Sunday. After confirming the identities of the civilians, the terrorists opened fire at them.

According to local residents, the militants, believed to be two, were wearing masks and they first attacked a house in Upper Dangri and shot several people there. Thereafter, they fired at two other houses situated at a distance injuring people there as well before fleeing from the spot.

Commenting on the purported targetted attack on the Hindu community, an official said, “The firing ended within 10 minutes. First, they attacked a house in Upper Dangri and then moved 25 meters away and shot several people there. They also fired on another house 25 meters away from the second house while fleeing the village.”

Meanwhile, security officials have intensified the scope of cordon-and-search operations. Drones and sniffer dogs have also been deployed in order to hunt down the two terrorists engaged in the attack on Sunday.

Additional deployments have been made in sensitive areas as a precautionary measure to maintain law and order.

The terror attack on Hindu families has sparked widespread panic in the hamlet. To protest against the killing of innocent civilians, several organisations have called for a general strike in Rajouri both on Monday and Tuesday. The bandh call was given by Shri Sanatan Dharam Sabha, Rajouri, and it was supported by the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, BJP and the traders’ association.

On Monday, a crowd assembled outside GMC hospital Rajouri and chanted anti-Pakistan and anti-terrorist slogans in response to the terrorist attack. Protesters also chanted slogans condemning the Lt Governor’s administration and security services for failing to properly combat the threat posed by Pakistan-sponsored terrorists.

Jammu and Kashmir BJP president Ravinder Raina, meanwhile expressed shock over the attack and described the killing of innocent and unarmed civilians by terrorists as an act of cowardice, adding that the killers will not go unpunished.

A week after the brutal murder and rape of 40-year-old Daya Bheel in the Sindh province of Pakistan, the Hyderabad police recovered the alleged weapon used in the heinous crime.

As per a report by Dawn, the police team visited Sanghar city in Sindh and collected DNA samples of the suspects for forensic examination. The cops also recovered a sickle, which is believed to be the weapon used in the murder and decapitation of the Hindu woman.

The weapon will be sent to the laboratory of the Sindh health department to determine its connection to the crime. According to Dawn, no one has laid claim to the sickle so far.

The Hyderabad police also recovered a chaddar from the crime scene. According to preliminary investigation, there might be involvement of “sorcerers” in the heinous crime.

A police official told Dawn, “The sorcerers are being questioned from time to time. Daya Bheel’s relatives claimed that her husband had also died following a matter involving a sorcerer.”

The cops are also interrogating the suspects and verifying their call data records (CDR). According to Dawn, the deceased Hindu woman was in touch with a sorcerer named Roopo Bheel.

The murder of Daya Bheel

Daya Bheel, belonging to the Bheel community, was gang-raped and beheaded by unidentified persons on December 26 last year. Before dumping her body in a wheat field, the perpetrators also chopped off her breasts and removed the skin from the victim’s head.

‘Kaam nahi hai kya’: Uorfi Javed slams BJP’s Chitra Wagh for complaining against her to Mumbai Police

Hours after BJP leader Chitra Wagh filed a complaint against Uorfi Javed for roaming the streets of Mumbai in revealing outfits, the TV actress has hit back on social media.

In a tweet on Sunday (January 1), she wrote, “Started my new year with another police complaint from another politician! Bc asli kaam nahi hai in politicians k Paas? (Do these politicians have no real thing to do?)Are these politicians, lawyers dumb?”

“There is literally no article in the constitution that can be put on me to send me to jail. The definition of vulgarity, nudity defers from person to person. Unless my nipples and my vagina are seen, you can’t send me to jail. These people are only doing this for media attention,” she slammed Chitra Wagh.

Uorfi Javed continued, “I got some better ideas for you, Chitra Wagh. How about doing something against human trafficking and sex trafficking in Mumbai which is still very much there?”

“How about shutting those illegal dance Bars (which are still very much there)? how about something against illegal prostitution which again exists everywhere in Mumbai?” she further added.

In another tweet, the TV actress shared ‘New Year’ greetings with everyone with the exception of the BJP leader. “Happy New year to everyone except Chitra Wagh,” she said.

The Background of the Controversy

Maharashtra BJP leader Chitra Wagh directly met the Mumbai police commissioner on 1st January 2023 and demanded action against Uorfi Javed.

She complained about the TV actress for roaming the streets of Mumbai wearing revealing outfits. Chitra Wagh also demanded that Uorfi Javed be stopped from openly displaying the female body’.

In her tweet, Chitra Wagh wrote, “Met Mumbai’s honourable Commissioner of Police and also met the Joint Commissioner Law and Order and demanded immediate legal action to be taken against who roams the streets of Mumbai exhibiting a lewd and lascivious display of her body in public places.”

In her letter addressed to the Commissioner, Chitra Wagh wrote, “The actress Uorfi Javed’s display of her body on the street has become a topic of discussion on social media.”

She further added, “No one would have imagined that the right to conduct, thought, and freedom guaranteed by the Constitution would manifest itself in such an open naked manner. The very lowly, disgusting display of the female body in the public places of Mumbai on the streets is a disgrace to Indian culture and civilization.”

CPM leader fearmongers, tries to instigate Muslims over Babri demolition after Mujahideen conference invites former BJP Kerala President

On Friday (December 30), Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader John Brittas resorted to fear-mongering among the Muslim community about the BJP by claiming that the party was responsible for the demolition of the Babri Masjid.

He made the contentious remarks during a conference of the Kerala Nadvathul Mujahideen in Kozhikode. Brittas, a Rajya Sabha MP, took offence to the fact that the Islamic socio-cultural organisation invited BJP leader V. Muraleedharan and Goa Governor PS Sreedharan Pillai (ex-Kerala BJP President) to the event.

The Communist leader, therefore, alleged that BJP was trying to create a false sense of communal harmony and brotherhood in the State to gain votes in the election. He pleaded with the Muslim community to not fall for BJP’s supposed electoral strategy by claiming that they destroyed mosques in the past.

In a bid to create mass hysteria among the Muslim community in Kerala, he claimed that the BJP has targeted Babri Masjid in the past and now continues to target Gyanvapi mosque and the Shahi Idqah Masjid.

“I am a journalist who had the misfortune of witnessing the destruction of the Babri Masjid on December 6, 1992, which was until then considered a standing example of Indian secularism. Those moments are so fresh in my mind,” he continued.

“An ordinary reporter, I had then written that the Babri Masjid is destroyed. Do you know what many of the prominent newspapers in Kerala said in the headline? They described it as a ‘disputed structure’. Whose dispute? Dispute between who?” John Brittas had asked during his address.

The CPI(M) leader then claimed that the BJP had deliberately deprived the Muslim community of electoral representation in the Parliament. “Does a people that constitute 20 per cent of the overall population face this kind of emptiness in the power structure anywhere in the world? The reality is that this kind of emptiness is not felt even in war-torn countries,” he claimed.

“What is the representation of Muslims in the Indian Parliament? Is there any representation in the Indian government? What is the representation in the judiciary?” John Brittas further added.

He also slammed the organisers of the event. The CPI(M) leader said, “You have to ask yourselves whether they (Sangh Parivar) will accommodate you the way you are considering them. You have to ask this on their face…You must ask them if they would reciprocate since you are welcoming them.”

19-year-old radical Islamist attacks NYPD police officers at Time Square with a machete, arrested

On New Year’s Eve, an Islamist attacked New York Police Department (Rookie) officer identified as Paul Cozzolino with a machete at Times Square. As per reports, the police officer was on his first day on the job. The attacker slashed the police officer’s head with the machete prompting another officer identified as Michael Hanna to shoot him. Hanna was also a Rookie cop. The suspect was hit on the shoulder.

Another cop identified as Louis Iorio, who was an 8-year veteran, was also injured and suffered a laceration on the head. Hanna was also injured in the attack and rushed to Mt Siani West hospital.

The attacker has been identified as Trevor Bickford. The police arrested the suspect at the scene and taken to Bellevue hospital. 19-year-old Bickford seems to have been recently radicalised by Islamic extremists. According to the New York Post, law enforcement agencies are investigating the case and checking his internet history to understand the timeline of his radicalisation.

Paul and the other officer were immediately rushed to Bellevue hospital. Another cop was injured while removing the barricades to allow cop cars to reach the incident spot. However, while removing the barricades, one of the cop cars hit, and a barricade fell on the cop who was removing them. He was rushed to the nearest hospital and expected to recover.

Police Commissioner Keechant Sewell said in a statement that the officer sustained a large laceration and fracture on the skull. As per reports, Paul graduated on December 30 and was assigned to a Staten Island precinct. However, for the New Year’s Eve detail, he was stationed at West 52nd Street and 8th Avenue, where the incident happened at around 9:30 PM. There were two other officers with him.

Mayor Eric Adams said in a statement that the attack was “unprovoked”. Both officers are expected to recover soon. Adams and Sewell said in their statements that no “active threats” were there to the community.

FBI joined the investigation

Furthermore, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Joint Terrorism Task Force has reportedly joined the investigation. In another report, it was mentioned that the attacker was on FBI’s “Guardian Watchlist”. He was allegedly planning to travel to Afghanistan to fight alongside the terrorists. The Post quoted an unnamed police source saying, “No backpacks or umbrellas in Times Square. They forgot to mention machetes.”

Manifesto found in the backpack of radicalised youth

A manifesto was recovered from his backpack, sources told The Post. It had a note for the family asking them to “accept Islam. It read, “To my family — specifically, mother — I’m sorry for not having been a good enough son. I fear greatly that you will not repent to Allah. And therefore, I hold hope in my heart that a piece of you believes so that you may be taken out to the hellfire. To [my brother] Travis. Of anyone I’ve known who I have felt is closest to faith — it’s you. Of anyone I’ve ever wanted to accept Islam with me — it’s you. Please repent to Allah and accept Islam. I fear for you. To Devon, there was a time when we were close, but that time has passed. You have joined the ranks of my enemy. And for that, I can give you no kind words – return to Allah.” Devon is reportedly a Marine officer.

Bickford hailed from Wells, Maine. He travelled to New York on an Amtrak train and reached the city on December 29. He was staying at the Bowery Mission. In his belongings, the police found camping gear, a diary, the last will and a testament.

As per The Post’s sources, he told the police that he planned a violent attack on the uniformed officer or someone armed as they were “enemy of the state”. It is believed that his online activity might have put him on the FBI’s watchlist.

In 2018, Bickford’s father died of an overdose. By that time, he was a regular boy. However, post his father’s death, Bickford apparently “found religion”. Around a month ago, he became radicalised. So far, the police have not found any criminal history linked to Bickford.

Multiple incidents reported on New Year’s Eve

The machete attack was not the only incident that happened on New Year’s Eve. Reports suggest that the crowd was trying to tear down the barricades, and the cops intervened to stop them. Later, at around 8:45 PM, a fight broke out between the two men on West 42nd Street and 6th Avenue. One of the men was stabbed in the neck with scissors. In another incident earlier the same day, another man was stabbed eight times on 7th Avenue and West 40th Street.

Supreme Court upholds Central govt’s decision to demonetise Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes in 2016

The Supreme Court of India on Monday upheld the Central Government’s decision to go ahead with demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes.

The five-judge Constitution Bench while dismissing the petition upheld that the Executive’s economic policy decision cannot be reversed.

The Supreme Court said that there was consultation between the Centre and the RBI before demonetisation and that there was reasonable nexus to bring about the decision. The apex court further added that demonetisation was not hit by doctrine of proportionality. Doctrine of proportionality means that the action should not be more drastic than it ought to be to obtain desired result.

The Supreme Court was pronouncing the verdict on a batch of petitions that had challenged the Union Government’s November 8, 2016 decision to demonetise Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 currency notes.

The apex court had reserved its judgments on the batch of 58 petitions on December 7. Earlier, the SC had asked the Centre and Reserve Bank of India to place before it the records pertaining to the 2016 demonetisation decision in a sealed envelope. The SC had said that it has the power to examine the manner in which the decision for demonetisation was taken adding that “the judiciary cannot fold its hands and sit just because it is an economic policy decision”.

These remarks came after the RBI counsel made the submission that the judicial review cannot apply to economic policy decisions. The RBI had further told the SC that the objective of demonetisation policy was to curb black money and fake currencies. Attorney General R Venkatramani had also said that the economic policy of demonetisation was connected to a social policy where three evils are attempted to be addressed.

Aired last week, the episode of ‘Crime Patrol’ portrayed the victim Shraddha Walkar as a Christian girl named ‘Anna Fernandes’, while her killer boyfriend Aftab Amin Poonawalla, a Muslim man, was depicted as ‘Mihir’ in the crime anthology series. The duo is also seen marrying at a temple in the episode.

The episode showed the duo based out of Pune, even though Aftab and Shraddha were based out of Delhi, where the former brutally killed her and later severed her body parts to be discarded at different places across the NCR region. In addition to this, the episode showed Mihir’s mother as a devout Hindu, an implicit hint that he belonged to a Hindu family, even though Aftab was a practising Muslim.

The program was numbered 212 and was titled the ‘Ahmedabad-Pune’ murder case under Crime Patrol 2.0. The episode resulted in an uproar on social media; netizens had trended #BoycottSonyTV on Twitter.

On December 30, the popular Twitter account GemsOfBollywood tweeted, “Murderer Aftab becomes Mihir. Victim Shraddha becomes Anna. LJ criminal becomes Yoga Teacher. And topiwala becomes primary informer who helps police. Crime Patrol on Sony LIV.”

Shraddha Walkar murder case

On November 14, the Delhi Police solved the six-month-old murder case of Shraddha Walkar and arrested Aftab Poonawala for murdering her, and then chopping her into 35 pieces to dispose off the body. Aftab executed the murder on May 18 and stored her body parts in a refrigerator. He then disposed of the body pieces in Delhi’s Mehrauli forest over the next several days.

The accused was arrested based on the complaint filed by Shraddha’s father on November 10. He stated in the complaint that the accused and the deceased had rented an apartment in Delhi and were staying in an abusive live-in relationship. He said that he had always opposed their relationship as Aftab used to physically assault Shraddha.

The girl, a resident of Palghar was adamant about continuing her relationship with accused Aftab and shifted to Delhi with him. Three days after they shifted to Delhi, they engaged in a quarrel and Aftab happened to kill Shraddha. He confessed his crime on November 14 and stated that they used to fight a lot. He said that he murdered Shraddha on May 18 as she was insisting on getting married. They also fought over who would manage the domestic household expenses.

After the Delhi Police detained Poonawala on November 12, the shocking revelations surrounding Shraddha Walkar’s murder stunned the whole country. The 28-year-old admitted during questioning that he killed Shraddha Walkar, dissected her body, and dumped the pieces in the forest to eliminate all evidence.

The corpse of the murdered woman was sawed into 35 pieces on May 18 and kept in a 300-litre refrigerator at Poonawala’s home in Mehrauli, south Delhi, for over three weeks before being dumped throughout the city over a number of days.

Dead body was found in Delhi on New Year’s Eve

Earlier, a naked dead body of a woman was found in Delhi. Reports suggest a car being driven by a drunk driver hit the woman riding a scooty. The woman got stuck under the car and was dragged for over 5 KMs. 5 accused were arrested by the police.

Accused dragged the body for 1.5 hours for about 18-20 kms, eyewitness narrates horrific details of Delhi accident

An eyewitness of the Kanjhawala incident in Delhi where a 20-year-old girl was killed after her scooty was allegedly hit by a car and dragged for a few kilometres on Sunday, narrated the horrific ordeal.

Deepak Dahiya runs a confectionery shop on Kanjhawala Road in Ladpur village. He said that the accused kept dragging the body of the girl which got entangled to their vehicle for 18 to 20 kilometres and it lasted for about one and a half hours. “It was 3:20 am…I was standing outside the shop when I heard a loud noise from a vehicle about 100 meters away. Earlier I thought it was a tire burst. As soon as the car moved, I saw a body being dragged. I informed the police immediately,” Dahiya told ANI.

After some time, he said around 3:30 am, the car took a u-turn and the dead body of the woman was still stuck under the vehicle. Dahiya said the accused drove repeatedly on the road of about 4-5 kilometres by taking u-turns.

“I tried to stop them many times but they did not stop the vehicle. For about one and a half hours they carried the girl’s body for about 20 km,’ he said.

Dahiya said he also chased the car with his bike and was in contact with the police.

After about one and a half hours, the body fell from the car near Jyoti village on Kanjhawala Road, after which the accused fled, he said.

“It could not be just an accident,” Dahiya stressed.

Speaking to ANI, Harendra Kumar Singh, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Outer Delhi said that at the time of the incident, the girl fell off the scooty and was dragged under the car for a long distance. Police apprehended the accused on the basis of the registered car number.

“The accused told police that the windows of the vehicle were closed and the music was playing on loud volume so they did not get to know…When they came to know they fled from the spot,” DCP said.

A 20-year-old girl was killed after she was hit by a car and then dragged for a few kilometres on the road, being entangled in the wheels, the police informed on Sunday.

The police said that the condition of the girl after the incident was so bad, that after being dragged on, her clothes and even the back side of her body got ripped off.

Delhi Commission of Women (DCW) chief Swati Maliwal also took cognisance of the matter and issued notice to the Delhi police.
“The naked body of a girl was found in Delhi’s Kanjhawala, it is being told that some boys in an inebriated state hit her scooty with a car and dragged her for several kilometres. This matter is very dangerous, I am issuing an appearance summons to Delhi Police. The whole truth should come out,” she said in a tweet.

Speaking to ANI, she also alleged that the five men on the vehicle were drunk.

“A very disturbing incident has come out. A girl was hit by a car and then dragged on the road. The car was driven by five people who were badly drunk. I have summoned Delhi Police to ask how will justice be provided to the girl. Secondly, I want to ask, despite the girl being dragged for kilometres, no check post was able to catch anything. No one stopped those drunk people. This is a very scary and shocking incident,” she said.

A PCR call was received at Kanjhwala police station on early Sunday morning that a car was noticed with a body being dragged along with it. Another PCR call was received at 4:11 am, about the body of the girl lying on the road.

After that, the police alerted the officers deployed at pickets and a search operation for the vehicle was launched.

The body of the girl was sent to the SGM hospital, Mangolpuri, where she was declared brought dead. The body was kept further at the mortuary of the hospital.

Meanwhile, the suspected car was also traced down and the five occupants were apprehended from their houses.
