Mumbai: Mohammad Iqbal Sheikh kills his Hindu wife for refusing to wear burqa, arrested

0

On Monday, the Maharashtra Police arrested a person named Mohammad Iqbal Sheikh for murdering his wife in the Tilak Nagar area of Mumbai. Sheikh’s wife, a Hindu by religion, was reportedly murdered for refusing to wear burqa and follow Islamic rituals and practices.

According to a report published by Aaj Tak, the victim Rupali and the accused had been married for three years and had a son to look after. The duo, however, were not living together due to the ongoing domestic scuffle between them. The incident is said to have happened on the evening of Monday, September 26 when Sheikh met his wife and forced her to follow Islamic rituals and practices. When she refused to give in to his diktats, he took a sharp knife and slit her throat before fleeing from the spot.

Deceased Rupali was Iqbal’s second wife. The accused had divorced his first wife as she could not conceive a child. The accused then trapped the Hindu victim in a love affair and got married to her three years ago. Reports mention that the accused used to force Rupali to wear a burqa and follow Islamic rituals and practices soon after the two got married.

The duo used to scuffle over the issue after Rupali refused to wear a burqa. Fed up by the daily arguments, the victim decided to separate from Iqbal and started to live alone with her son. On Monday, Iqbal went to meet Rupali to convince her to return home with their son. He also forced her to wear a burqa and follow Islamic rituals.

Amid the heated argument, Rupali then urged for divorce which enraged the accused. He pulled her tight and then slit her throat with a sharp knife. Locals from the Tilak Nagar area gathered as the victim screamed in pain. They later informed the police who arrived at the spot for investigation.

The accused had fled from the spot after the locals gathered. However, the police managed to arrest him. During the investigation, the sister of the victim confirmed that the accused used to force Rupali to follow Islamic rituals and wear a burqa. The Police are interrogating the accused and are further investigating the case.

Delhi HC restrains AAP leaders from making defamatory allegations against Lieutenant Governor

0

On Tuesday, September 27, the Delhi High Court Single-Judge Bench of Justice Amit Bansal passed an ad interim injunction order in favour of Delhi Lieutenant Governor (LG) Vinai Kumar Saxena and against Aam Aadmi Party and its five leaders in connection with a matter pertaining to their corruption allegations against him.

I [have] passed an ad interim injunction order in favour of the plaintiff and a take-down order. There are detailed directions,” said the court.

Notably, an ad interim injunction order is a temporary order given by a court of law which tells someone either to do or not do something until an official decision on the case can be made.

The court was hearing an interim application filed by Delhi Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena. In the plea, Saxena had urged the Delhi High Court to restrain the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and several of its leaders from levelling “false” allegations against him and his family after they claimed that he was involved in a Rs 1,400 crore scam during his tenure as the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) chairman.

The five AAP leaders against whom LG Saxena had sought an interim injunction restraining order from the court are Atishi Singh, Durgesh Pathak, Saurabh Bhardwaj, Sanjay Singh and Jasmine Shah.

Saxena had sought an injunction against AAP and its leaders to delete or remove the allegedly false and libellous posts, tweets, or videos circulated and issued on social media. He has also claimed Rs 2.5 crore in damages and compensation, along with interest, from the political party and its five leaders.

Notably, during the last hearing in the case on Thursday, September 22, the Delhi HC observed, “I can imagine a politician saying things against another politician but not against a constitutional functionary. He is a constitutional authority.”

Representing the LG, Senior Advocates Mahesh Jethmalani and Maninder Singh accused the AAP and its leaders of defaming the LG by claiming on social media and press conferences that Vinai Kumar Saxena was involved in a scam worth Rs 1400 crore.

The LG Counsels termed the allegations made by AAP and its leaders as being blatantly false and defamatory and argued before the court that the defendants have not been able to show anything to substantiate the allegations and that even the document used by them was non-existent in reality and, therefore, forged.

Delhi Lt General VK Saxena informs he would take legal action against AAP leaders for defamatory allegations of corruption

It may be recalled that on August 31, LG House Officials said in a statement that the Lt Governor would take legal action against a number of Aam Aadmi Party leaders Saurabh Bhardwaj, Atishi, Durgesh Pathak and Jasmine Shah, among others, for highly defamatory and false allegations of corruption.

Notably, AAP leaders have launched a series of attacks against the LG, claiming he indulged in money laundering and more. On August 29, AAP MLA Durgesh Pathak claimed that during his tenure at Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) as chairman, VK Saxena had forced his employees to exchange old currency notes with new ones. AAP leaders alleged that the currency exchanged by LG tuned to 1,400 crores.

“A cashier working there has given in writing that he was forced to carry out the exchange of notes. It is unfortunate that he was suspended. Those who levelled were all dismissed. But we want a probe into this. There is a news report also and there are statements by the affected employees,” Pathak said.

Pathak said that two Khadi cashiers have claimed under oath that the Delhi L-G made them exchange old demonetised currency notes. Durgesh Pathak also accused VK Saxena of misusing his power by investigating the allegations himself and suspending the cashiers who exposed him. “Clear cut case of money laundering, there should be an ED investigation into the matter,” he had demanded.

LG Saxena has denied all the allegations, calling them a “figment of their imagination”.

The LG informed that a vigilance inquiry was ordered when it was alleged that some demonetised notes were deposited in the account of Khadi Gramodyog Bhawan, and four officials were suspended in the matter. The case is currently being probed by CBI, and the CBI has found that Rs 17,07,000 in demonetised notes were deposited by two officials, not Rs 1,400 crore as claimed by AAP leaders.

“The matter being falsely touted by the AAP is with regards to just ₹ 17.07 lakh as against the claims of ₹ 1,400 crore, which is nothing but a figment of imagination for which the habitual liars will face the consequences,” the statement by LG’s office added.

The allegations came at a time when several AAP leaders are facing corruption charges. AAP leader Satyendra Jain is currently lodged in custody, while Deputy CM of Delhi Manish Sisodia is facing accusations of corruption in liquor policy. Apart from the allegations of corruption against AAP leaders, LG has recently schooled Delhi CM and instructed him to sign the files before sending them for approval to him, which irked the AAP leaders against LG.

The ‘diaspora problem’ in the Leicester issue: The conduct of certain community leaders and the lessons Hindus need to learn

The perversion that played out in Leicester against the Hindu community and the subsequent conduct of the media, the UK police, politicians who rose to fame on the backs of diaspora Hindus and certain Hindus themselves have left one with a lot to ponder. That Islamists went on a rampage against Hindus and then hijacked the narrative to paint themselves as victims, aided by a traditionally spineless and deracinated British media comes as no surprise. While Leicester Hindus stood up for their Dharma valiantly in the face of grievous provocation, violence, and propaganda, amidst the unexpected heroes made in the face of adversity, Leicester also exposed a sore wound that the Hindu community has battled for long.

After days of Islamist violence and hate directed at the Hindu community, on the 20th of September, the president of the Iskcon Hindu temple of Leicester issued a statement, surrounded by Muslim “leaders” and Imams of the Jame Mosque. Reading out the joint statement outside a mosque, President of Leicester’s ISKCON temple Pradyumna Das said, “This is a statement of unity between the Hindu and Muslim community. We, the family of Leicester stand in front of you, not only as Hindus and Muslims but as brothers and sisters. Our two faiths have lived harmoniously in this wonderful city for over half a century. We arrived in this city together. We faced the same challenges together.”

“We arrived in this city together. We face the same challenges together; we fought off racist haters together and collectively made this city a beacon of diversity and community cohesion,” the statement said. “That is why we are saddened and heartbroken to see the eruption of tension and violence. Physical attacks on innocent individuals and unwarranted damage to property are not part of a decent society and, indeed, not part of our faiths,” it added.

Pradyumna Das carried on and called for “inciters of violence and hate to leave Leicester alone” and that they “do not need to call upon assistance from outside the city”. “Leicester has no place for a foreign extremist ideology that causes division”, he said, while asking people to respect the sanctity of religious places, both mosques and mandirs.

Throughout this pathetic statement that muddled the truth, the Muslim leaders and Imams kept quiet, menacingly surrounding the Priest making this statement. The bonds of mythical brotherhood that this statement seems to be alluding to, was devastated the moment Muslims of Leicester attacked Hindus for passing by a “Muslim area”. The illusionary harmony was pierced the moment a temple was attacked. No amount of tiptoeing will dilute the fact that no Mosque was attacked by Hindus, contrary to the fake news that was spread by Islamists. While the Iskcon priest repeats ad nauseam that what happened in Leicester is not a part of their “faiths” (meaning Hinduism or Islam), the truth is, that every Islamist out there perpetuating violence is unequivocal on how this violence is indeed part of their faith and they can quote the verses better than anyone trying to de-hyphenate the two.

More than the blatant capitulating, what was far more disappointing was the Iskcon priest toeing the Islamist line while talking about “foreign extremist ideology that causes division”. Surely, Das was not talking about Islam because the Muslim community does not believe that any such division in their faith exists. Therefore, it is only fair to assume that Das was explicitly toeing the Islamist/Left media line, claiming that the violence by the Islamists was caused by the presence of “Hindutva forces” in Leicester, terming it a violent, foreign ideology.

These observations aren’t novel and this author is not the first to point them out. The only difference is that the Twitter handle of Iskcon can’t possibly censor my views as they did to several others who tweeted to them. There were hundreds of tweets that expressed discontent and rage over the statement by Das, which were “hidden” by the Iskcon handle. Here is an archived version of the responses they hid.

Over the past several days, I have personally written extensively on the Islamists who instigated violence against Hindus of Leicester, the conduct of the police and the media in shielding Islamists and how the Hindu community was standing up to blatant intimidation, however, as the dust settles, it is also important that the Hindu community looks inwards and realises that our dignified survival as a global community is impeded when cowering to bullies becomes the conditioned response of community leaders.

It is indeed a fact that most of the noise that was created on social media on Leicester came from India. The awareness that Hindus in Leicester were attacked would not have completely been possible had the Hindu community as a whole, from Leicester and from India, not come together to talk about the spate of Islamist violence. That itself brings forth the hollowness of the statement made by Das and a trope I have heard numerous times by Leicester community leaders (and a few diaspora Hindus) over the past few days – “This is a diaspora issue”.

Essentially, while Das, a Hindu himself, capitulated and ended up calling Hindutva a “foreign ideology”, some community leaders and diaspora Hindus reiterated, over and over again, that the Leicester violence was a “diaspora issue” and therefore, the nuances of how it should be talked about or how it should be handled, was something that Hindus in India might not fully comprehend. I concede – every region and the manner in which an issue is handled overall is going to certainly be different. However, the underlying malaise is far more serious. What several Hindus seem to have alluded to, including Das, is that the Islamists are only attacking Hindus who they believe are rooted in Hindutva, and therefore, by terming this a “foreign ideology” or calling the issue a “diaspora issue”, they wish to safeguard themselves by disassociating from the tags that the Left media and Islamists wish to thrust upon them. “You are attacking us because you believe we are rooted in Hindutva, that we support RSS and Indian PM Modi. But that is not true. So please spare us. We are brothers”, seems to be the narrative for some. When pointed out, in so many words, the defence that is mounted suggests, “This is a diaspora issue. We need to handle things differently. Hindus from India won’t understand”.

Again, while I understand that certain nuances only the locals who are under siege can understand, in the larger scheme of things, this strategy is not only useless in safeguarding the diaspora Hindus but also terribly endangers those Hindus who are speaking up for them, relentlessly. When they try and distance themselves, in whatever casual capacity, from Hindutva, the diaspora Hindus are essentially saying that Islamists are wrong in attacking them not because they don’t deserve to be attacked only because Islam treats them as Kafirs, but also because they don’t associate with this “foreign ideology”. In that sense, they only signal that those who do associate with the Hindutva ideology or support RSS/PM Modi are fair game as far as Islamist hate is concerned – they don’t say it explicitly, of course, but they unwittingly partake in the demonisation of Hindus globally.

One has to realise that Hindutva’s primary purpose was to concretely define the concept of nationhood around Hindu identity rather than along regional or caste identities. In a heterogeneous polytheistic society, it was not such an easy endeavour as various identities were regularly in conflict with each other. But for the polytheistic order to survive, Hindu society had to overcome such fault lines to sustain its continued existence. At its core, Hindutva is a reactionary ideology. It emerged as a reaction to a world order based on nation-states and the task of ensuring the political unity of the lands of India once the British left Centuries of conflict with invading ideologies made Hindu intellectuals acutely aware of the urgent need to ensure the political unity of the Hindu populace. Hindutva was the product of such endeavours and its purpose was explicit: To ensure that the whole of Hindu society lends its allegiance to a nation-state which would then protect and serve the interests of the Hindu social order – self-preservation is the foundational core of Hindutva – a principle that is the natural right of every indigenous people.

Instead of articulating why Hindutva as a concept is vastly different from political ideologies carved around Abrahamic faiths, several diaspora Hindus were seen trying to tacitly disassociate with that identity. The Islamists need to demonise Hindutva to use it as a euphemism to target Hindus and to create a boogey monster that they can use to dilute the frightful effect that Islamism as an ideology has globally. Hindus who aim to disassociate themselves with Hindutva, basically leave all Hindus vulnerable to be stereotyped and attacked with the attacks being justified just like the genocide of Jews was justified after Hitler cast them in a stereotypical stone.

At this point, a disclaimer becomes imperative. Not all diaspora Hindus do this. Many wear their faith proudly on their sleeve, however, when community leaders further this problematic narrative, one notices several other average Hindus follow suit because they believe this is the ultimate strategy for survival.

The truth is that the Hindus of Leicester were attacked because they were Hindus. Islamists are predisposed to look for polytheists and slay them wherever they find them. The only difference between a Delhi anti-Hindu riot and a Leicester is the fact that far more blood was spilt in Delhi and the nature of the euphemism used to target Hindus varied greatly. While in Delhi, they used CAA as an excuse to target Hindus, they used Hindutva, RSS and Modi as an excuse in Leicester – but euphemism it all is.

If certain diaspora Hindus and community leaders believe that disassociating themselves with Hindutva, RSS or Modi would save them today, tomorrow, they will have to disassociate with their temples, their faith, their core and eventually, their very Dharmic existence. That is the progression that Islamists will thrust down their throats. Today, Hindutva is “violent” and a procession from a “Muslim area” makes you liable to be attacked. Tomorrow, the existence of their temple and your house in a “Muslim area” will be used as an excuse. The day after, they will say that their existence as a polytheist is an affront to their faith and if they don’t give up their Dharmic existence, you will be responsible for their own genocide. We have seen this play out over and over again and history is replete with stories that remind us of this pattern.

No matter who the Hindus distance themselves from, they will always be a target for Islamists because it is their existence that they have a “beef with”, not particularly what they believe in or stand for. The diaspora Hindus might believe in the myth of brotherhood if only they can display their soft power, but survival is a messy business and truth, the cold truth, and its articulation, is at the heart of it.

Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi too believed in what certain diaspora Hindus believe in today. He believed that his non-violent ways and soft cultural power would be enough to make the Mohammadans see the error of their ways. Today, Gandhi is considered and touted as one of the leading symbols of India’s soft power. Despite all of that, and despite the fact that he cowered to Islamist hate, treated Hindus as sacrificial lambs and is revered by the very perpetrators who want Hindus annihilated, he too would be cancelled someday because he was “too Hindu”.

As OpIndia CEO, Rahul Roushan often says, Gandhi’s idea of Hindu-Muslim unity, much like the ISKON priest, was turning a blind eye to the Malabar genocide of Hindus, blaming Swami Shraddhanand for his own murder by an Islamist and inserting Allah into Hindu bhajans with no reciprocation. However, Gandhi was indeed a Hindu. He spoke unabashedly about cow protection, the need to preserve traditional Hindu values, and the importance of temples in the Hindu society and while his counterparts, some of them, were busy talking against idol worship, Gandhi proudly wore his religion on his sleeve and never said anything against our polytheist ways. This is precisely why most Hinduphobes only use Gandhi to keep Hindus subjugated by talking about his ideas of extreme pacifism but would denounce him just as easily for being “too Hindu” – a phenomenon we are bound to see play out in the next few years, given the meteoric rise of Hindumisia.

Today, priests like Das may call Hindutva a “foreign ideology” and some diaspora Hindus may want to play nice by calling this a “diaspora issue” and capitulating to Islamists and Leftists, but that won’t shield them from Islamist hate. It may, for the time being, but they will forever remain idolaters who deserve to be annihilated. No matter who or what they disassociate with, the Left media will not understand their culture and certainly, not proclaim them the victims of sectarian violence even if the truth were to smack them in the face. The Muslim community functions on the principles of Ummah where a Muslim hurt, anywhere in the world, is the problem of every Muslim no matter where they geographically reside. The Jews, who have successfully managed to make the world aware of their own persecution would never denounce Israel or its “internal politics” for the sake of survival – an attack against a Jew is rightfully anti-semitism, no matter what euphemism is used. Hindus need to realise that as long as they function in their neatly crafted silos, they will alienate a community that is their only chance of survival.

To quote Sita Ram Goel, “The point that all of you are trying to make is that Hindus should not stand up and speak in defence of their own religion and culture, that Hindus should not try to analyse and understand the factors and forces in the field around them, in short, that Hindus should remain at the receiving end for all time to come. We are sorry we have to reject your advice”.

Watch: NASA executes Armageddon-style experiment, crashes DART spacecraft on asteroid Dimorphos

0

On September 26 (local time), a spacecraft launched by NASA crashed into an asteroid. Around ten months ago, the United States space agency National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) launched a $344 million spacecraft under a mission codenamed Double Asteroid Redirection Test (DART) with an aim to intentionally crash it on an asteroid. The idea was to test a unique defence technology, and the event finally took place on Monday.

The space agency crashed the spacecraft into the binary asteroid system Didymos with an aim to test a kinetic impactor technology. The idea was to test the defence system that could be used to save Earth from a potential life-threatening asteroid in the future. The spacecraft was travelling at the speed of 24,000 kilometres per hour when it hit Dimorphos, a moonlet of the Didymos asteroid system, and slightly changed the orbit of the asteroid.

As per experts, the impact would be enough to move the asteroid to a slightly tighter orbit around other space rocks. The experiment demonstrated that in future if an asteroid with the potential to cause severe harm to the planet heads towards the Earth, there will be a fighting chance of diverting it away.

Several cameras and telescopes were monitoring the impact, including James Webb Space Telescope and the Hubble telescope.

NASA shared a live feed of the spacecraft camera. At the beginning of the video, a companion asteroid appears as a point of light. At 1 hour 23 minutes into the video, the target asteroid appeared. As the spacecraft headed towards the asteroid, it became larger in size. At 1 hour 38 minutes, it started to look like an asteroid and at 1 hour 44 minutes into the video, the impact could be seen.

The spacecraft was equipped with a single instrument, a camera. It was sued for navigating, targeting and initiating the final action. It will take a few weeks or more for the scientists to see if the experiment was successful.

The asteroid that was hit by the spacecraft

Dimorphos is an asteroid around 9.6 million kilometres away from Earth. It is the twin of a 2,500-foot asteroid named Didymos. Didymos was discovered in 1996. Dimorphos, on the other hand, is 525 feet across and located close to the parent body.

Psychiatrist instigates netizens to share pictures of meat to offend Jains over PIL seeking a ban on ads on non-veg food

On Monday (September 26), a psychiatrist courted controversy after he urged his followers on Twitter to share pictures of meat in a bid to hurt the religious sentiments of the Jain community.

Soumitra Pathare, the Director of the Centre for Mental Health Law & Policy, was miffed at the decision of 3 Jain Trusts to move a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) before the Bombay High Court, seeking a ban on ads for non-vegetarian food.

The consulting psychiatrist, therefore, asked his followers to post pictures of ‘non-veg dishes’, in complete disregard to the sentiments of the Jain community, to avenge the actions of the Mumbai-based Jain trusts.

In a tweet, Soumitra wrote, “What next? Can the good folks on Twitter please post pictures of “non-veg” dishes! Before it gets banned.” As expected, his followers complied and posted pictures of them eating/cooking non-vegetarian items.

Whether ads for non-veg food should be banned or not is a debate for another day, in recent times, meat has been politicised and used specifically to hurt the religious sentiments of Hindus as well as Jains.

Various ‘meat festivals’ including ‘beef festivals’ have been organised by a certain section of society, specifically to hurt the religious sentiments of Hindus and Jains. It must be mentioned that Jains are a predominantly vegetarian community where some even hold fast to mourn the slaughter of goats on Bakri Eid celebrated by Muslims.

Meat and its politicisation

In June 2019, a beef festival that was supposed to be organised in Kolkata was cancelled after the organisers allegedly received threats from people. The organisers had conceded that they could not ensure the safety of the attendees. In a Facebook post, the Accidental Note said, “If any one person is harmed, we would feel personally responsible, and we can not accept that.

The menu for the ‘Kolkata Beef Festival’, which was eventually changed to ‘Kolkata Beep Festival’ after protests on social media, included some pork dishes as well. As per information received by OpIndia from sources, the menu initially did not include pork when the event was first announced, and it was added later on after Hindus registered their disagreement on social media.

In August 2018, a group of hackers named ‘Team Kerala Cyber Warriors’ hacked the website of Akhil Bharatiya Hindu Mahasabha and posted the recipe for traditional Kerala beef curry. It was in retaliation to the comments of Swami Chakrapani who alleged that the Kerala floods were a consequence of eating beef and disrespecting cows.

Prior to that in May 2017, Youth Congress workers in Kerala carried out the public slaughter of cow. They also organised beef festivals. Hindus consider cows holy and for many Hindus consumption of beef is forbidden. The cow was slaughtered publicly by Youth Congress workers to specifically hurt the religious sentiments of those who hold the cow holy. As have been other ‘beef festivals’.

In September 2015, Shiv Sena had tried to cook chicken outside Jain temple in Mumbai. This was done during the time of Paryushan, the Jain festival where many Jains even abstain from consuming food and water. Jains are predominantly vegetarian community where some even hold fast to mourn the slaughter of goats on Bakri Eid celebrated by Muslims. Similarly, Shiv Sena, too, tried to sell meat on street during Paryushan, with an aim to irk the Jain community.

It is one thing to oppose a ban on non-veg food adss, and another thing to intentionally to hurt their sentiments.

‘Ambani’s house is a waqf property, our government would have demolished it’: Arvind Kejriwal in a viral video

A video of Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal has gone viral over the internet in which he can be seen claiming that the residence of global business tycoon and billionaire Mukesh Ambani has been built on a Waqf property. The clip was shared on Twitter by Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha National Secretary Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga.

In the video, Kejriwal can be seen addressing an audience, and he says, “It is said that the residence of the richest person of this country, which is inside Mumbai, has been built on a waqf property. I’m not saying wrong, right? The government of Mumbai can’t do anything about that. Had it been our government, we would have demolished the construction.”

In the clip, Arvind Kejriwal further claimed that Aam Aadmi Party is in full support of the Waqf Board and will stand with the Board wherever they need any help. The video has garnered widespread attention and users on the internet have slammed Kejriwal for making such remarks.

The actual video dates back to 2019 when Kejriwal went to a conference held by Waqf Board at Aiwan-E-Ghalib in Delhi. Arvind Kejriwal claimed in his address at the event that Delhi Government will bear the construction of schools and hospitals on land held by the Waqf Board. The conference was also attended by AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan, who was recently arrested by the Anti-Corruption Bureau in a corruption case concerning the Waqf Board.

Speaking at the conference, Arvind Kejriwal claimed that in the future, Waqf Board will be so rich that it will not require any funds from any other authority. The event was held before the Lok Sabha elections in 2019. Days after the meeting, Kejriwal approved an increase in the pay of Delhi’s imams and muezzins. The AAP president declared that the pay of imams at the 185 mosques in the national capital run by the Delhi Waqf Board would be raised from Rs 10,000 to Rs 18,000 per month, while muezzins’ salaries would be raised from Rs 9,000 to Rs 16,000 per month.

Is the house of Ambani built on Waqf property?

Although Arvind Kejriwal stated that the residence of Reliance group chairman Mukesh Ambani was built on Waqf property, the assertion appears to be inaccurate. The controversy centres on a 4,500-square-meter plot of land where the Currimbhoy Ebrahim Khoja Orphanage Trust formerly operated an orphanage to offer maintenance and education to impoverished and destitute children. The trust requested authorization from the Charity Commissioner to sell the land to Antilia Commercial Pvt Ltd (APCL) in 2002, which was approved in August of that year.

Antilia, the residence of Mukesh Ambani.

The ACPL and the Trust have maintained that the land came under the Charity Commissioner, not Waqf and that after the Charity Commissioner issued the authorization, Waqf had no role to play. However, upon learning of the transaction, the Waqf Board CEO sent a notice to both parties, which the orphanage Trust disputed. Later, the trust and the Board decided to resolve the dispute cordially, and the Board passed a resolution ratifying the deal on March 9, 2005.

According to sources, the Maharashtra State Waqf board declared in November 2017 that the sale of the land, which occurred around 2004-2005, was unlawful because it was Waqf property. In the meantime and following it, multiple suits were brought to the Bombay High Court. Later that month, in November 2017, the State Waqf Board filed an affidavit. The CEO of the Waqf Board said in the affidavit that the land transfer was unlawful since it was Waqf’s property.

Matters related to the case are right now pending before the Supreme Court with little information available regarding them in the public domain.

Ankita Bhandari murder case: Former staffers reveal resort owned by now arrested Pulkit Arya was ‘den of prostitution, drug abuse’

0

On Monday, during the ongoing investigation into the murder case of Ankita Bhandari, the Vanantra Resort staff members revealed that the resort owned by Pulkit Arya was the hub of prostitution and drug abuse. They claimed that the resort owner would mentally harass the employees and force them into shady activities.

The Vanantra resort was owned by now arrested Pulkit Arya, son of former BJP leader Vinod Arya. Pulkit Arya along with two others was arrested for brutally murdering Ankita Bhandari on September 18. According to a report by the Times of India, the staff members claimed that Pulkit Arya had a habit of mentally harassing the resort employees and that he would frame anyone in false cases of theft and assault if they defied him.

This is a day after the Whatsapp chats of Ankita with her friend were recovered by the Police. The chats revealed that the son of an ex-BJP politician had tried to coerce her into prostitution. “They are trying to turn me into a prostitute…I may be poor, but I won’t sell myself for Rs 10,000”, Ankita said in one Whatsapp message.

A staffer couple who earlier used to work at the resort stated on September 26 that they had eye-witnessed illegal activities such as prostitution and drug abuse inside the resort. The Vanantra resort was located in the Ganga-Bhogpur area of the Pauri district and was demolished after the Police arrested Pulkit Arya in the murder case.

The duo further claimed that they had escaped one such attempt of harassment by Pulkit and his arrested assistant Ankit Gupta and left the resort two months ago. “Pulkit Arya often would bring some ‘special guests’ to the resort for whom unidentified women would come. Those guests used to indulge in sexual activities with these women in their rooms”, the couple staffer said.

“They also were served with expensive liquor arranged by him along with some drugs such as cannabis, marijuana, and smack”, they added. Meanwhile, the police have obtained the postmortem report of Ankita from AIIMS hospital in Rishikesh but have denied revealing any further details. The Police said that the details would be revealed in court during the hearing

However, one of the officers maintained that the report denied the possibility of sexual assault on the deceased. “The reason for death was found to be ‘asphyxia consequent upon ante-mortem drowning”, he said. The Police also said that they found that another girl named Priyanka had assumably gone missing 8 years ago. “We found her in Meerut. We talked to her over the phone. She said she quit the job due to salary issues”, the Police said.

Earlier on September 24, one of the locals named Bittu Bhandari while talking to the police revealed that a similar incident had happened in the now-demolished Vanantra resort around 8 years ago. “7-8 years ago a female staff named Priyanka working at the same resort had gone missing and has not been found to date”, he had said.

Ankita worked as a receptionist in the Vanantra resort, owned by Pulkit Arya. She was reported missing on September 18. The police launched an investigation after the girl’s family reported a missing case and feared murder. Ankita was murdered after she turned down the demand of the resort owner for sexual favours, as per reports.

Three people were arrested by the Uttarakhand Police on September 23, in connection with the killing of Ankita Bhandari. The three people detained were identified as resort manager Ankit, Saurabh, and Pulkit Arya, the son of former state politician Vinod Arya.

A four-membered SIT has been formed to investigate the case. The team is camping in Rishikesh for attaining relevant evidence in the case. It is examining all the evidence including Ankita’s calls, Whatsapp chats, and CCTV footage. Reports mention that the SIT is also recording statements of employees and former employees of the resort who have alleged that the resort was the hub of prostitution and drug abuse.

NIA Raids on PFI: Second round of raids underway in eight states, 45 PFI members detained in Karnataka, 25 in Assam

On September 27, the National Investigation Agency (NIA), along with other investigation agencies, carried out the second round of raids on the Islamist organisation Popular Front of India. As per reports, the raids took place in eight different states and the investigation agencies detained several members of the organisation.

NIA has reportedly received a lot of crucial information during the interrogation of the PFI leaders who were arrested during the first round of the raids. Based on the information, NIA, state police, and other investigation agencies carried out the second round of raids against the organisation.

As per reports, several PFI leaders were arrested in Assam by the State Police from the Nagarbera area of Kamrup district. In Assam, a total of 25 PFI leaders have been arrested in the second round of raids, as per a PTI report.

Furthermore, around 45 PFI members were detained in Karnataka by the investigation agencies. They will be produced in front of the local district collector to seek judicial custody. Reportedly, these PFI members were detained after they attempted to disrupt the raids or stop the NIA personnel from carrying out their duty.

Six PFI members were detained in Pune by the Police for questioning linked to alleged terror funding. State police have been working with Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) and NIA for the investigation and raids.

Last night, raids were also carried out in Siana, Sarurpur and Lisri Gate in Meerut in Uttar Pradesh. Several suspects were picked by the investigation agencies from Meerut, Sitapur and Bulandshahr.

Delhi is also on the list of NIA as raids have been happening since the late night of September 26. So far, 12 people have been reportedly detained by the security agencies. Delhi Police Special Cell and local Police stations are providing necessary support to the national probing agencies.

Round one of NIA raids on PFI

On September 22, the NIA, Enforcement Directorate and state police in 15 states raided locations linked to PFI. The raids were carried out at 93 locations in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telengana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Delhi, Assam, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Goa, West Bengal, Bihar and Manipur. Over 100 PFI leaders and members were arrested by the investigation agencies.

The raids were conducted based on the inputs and evidence that the organisation was linked to terror funding across the country. PFI reportedly organised camps to provide arms training and radicalised the members of the community to join banned organisations. PFI chief OMA Salam’s house was also raided during the first round. Similar raids were conducted on September 19 as well.

PFI organised protests

Following the raids, PFI members in 15 states organised protests and accused the government of attacking the organisation. Interestingly, during one of the protests in Pune, PFI members raised ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ slogans.

Chinese app TikTok may be fined to the tune of $29 million for not protecting the privacy of children. Here is what we know so far

Chinese video sharing app, TikTok, may be fined to the tune of $29 million for its failure to protect the privacy of children. A warning notice to this effect was sent to the company by the Information Commissioner’s Office in the United Kingdom on Monday (September 26).

As per reports, TikTok processed sensitive information of children without the permission of their parents between May 2018 and July 2020. The British regulators also pulled up the company for failing to explain its data practices in an easy-to-understand language to the children.

The Chinese video-sharing app also faced the ire of the British data protection agency for not having legal backing to process the data of minors. The provisional findings against TikTok came a year after Britain introduced the Children’s Code, a data protection code of practice for online services accessed by children.

In a statement, Information Commissioner John Edwards informed, “Companies providing digital services have a legal duty to put those protections in place, but our provisional view is that TikTok fell short of meeting that requirement.” As such, the British regulator issued a ‘notice of intent’ to TikTok and TikTok Information Technologies UK Ltd.

John Edwards further added, “We are currently looking into how over 50 different online services are conforming with the Children’s Code and have six ongoing investigations looking into companies providing digital services who haven’t, in our initial view, taken their responsibilities around child safety seriously enough.”

TikTok has formally disagreed with the findings of the British data protection agency and said, “While we respect the ICO’s role in safeguarding privacy in the U.K., we disagree with the preliminary views expressed and intend to formally respond to the ICO in due course.”

When India banned TikTok for being a security threat

In January 2021, the Government of India permanently banned 59 Chinese apps, including TikTok, WeChat, Baidu, Alibaba’s UC Browser, Club Factory, BIGO Live and others. In June 2020, the government temporarily censored these apps.

The original action was initiated by the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeiTY), Government of India, under Section 69A of the IT Act, stating that these apps were engaging in activities prejudicial to the sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, the security of the State and public order.

By the end of 2020, a total of 267 apps originating from China were banned in batches. PUBG, a popular mobile game, was also banned as a Chinese company that owned shares in the game although it is owned and developed by PUBG Corporation, a South Korean gaming company.

US whistleblower Edward Snowden gets Russian citizenship, Putin signs decree

On September 26 (local time), President Vladimir Putin granted Russian citizenship to former US intelligence contractor Edward Snowden. 39-year-old Snowden made headlines after he exposed large-scale secret surveillance operations by the National Security Agency (NSA) at domestic and international levels in 2013. Following the expose, Snowden fled to Russia, where he was granted asylum in 2014.

The US authorities have been trying to bring Snowden back to the United States to face a criminal trial on espionage charges. If proven guilty in the US court, Snowden may face prison for up to 30 years. Snowden was granted citizenship along with 71 other foreign-born individuals via a decree signed by President Putin. Russia did not comment on anything specific about Snowden.

However, Snowden published a tweet asking for privacy. His message was an updated version of the 2020 tweet where he had announced that he would be applying for Russian citizenship. He wrote, “After years of separation from our parents, my wife and I have no desire to be separated from our SONS. After two years of waiting and nearly ten years of exile, a little stability will make a difference for my family. I pray for privacy for them—and for us all.”

Notably, Snowden was granted permanent residency rights by Russia in 2020, which cleared the way for him to apply for citizenship. In the same year, a US appeals court ruled that the program Snowden had exposed was unlawful. The court further noted that the US intelligence leaders who defended the program were ‘not telling the truth’. Furthermore, in 2017, Putin himself said that Snowden was wrong to leak US secrets but refused to call him a traitor.

Snowden’s counsel Anatoly Kucherena was quoted by the RIA news agency saying that Snowden’s wife Lindsay Mills would also apply for citizenship in Russia. Mills gave birth to a son in 2020.

Speaking to the media, US State Department spokesperson Ned Price said he was unaware of any change to his citizenship status of Snowden. He said, “I am familiar with the fact that he has in some ways denounced his American citizenship. I don’t know that he’s renounced it.”
