TMC MP Mahua Moitra caught ‘stealing’ content again, this time to congratulate Kamala Harris

Kamala Harris has created history by becoming the first woman Vice President-elect of the United States of America. Her ethnic connection to Jamaica and India has found a soft spot among people of colour worldwide. Praised and congratulations are flowing in for her from all corners. Trinamool Congress leader Mahua Moitra is among those who had congratulated her and mentioned how years of struggle for people of color led to her becoming the Vice President of the US. However, she was found using plagiarised content in her congratulatory message.

The plagiarism killed the message

Moitra is known for stealing content for her speeches and tweets. This time, she again plagiarized congratulation message to Kamala Harris and did not mention the original creator of the artwork. Moitra used an artwork, which depicted Kamala Harris walking in a business suit with a bag in hand in front of a wall. But the shadow in the wall is of a little girl. An accompanying image shows that the girl is a black girl.

Social media users noticed that the composite image is not a creation of Mahua Moitra, and she didn’t credit the original creator. Several Twitter users pointed out that she should credit the creator of the artwork. The composite image is used as header image on a website named ‘WTF America 2017’. The website credits artist Bria Goeller as the creator of the image, along with its Instagram handle goodtrubble.

Dr. June M. Sellers first posted the tweet’s content though she also forgot to credit the creator of the artwork.

The image

The composite image created by artist Bria Goeller is winning accolades because the powerful message it conveys. While it depicts the first Woman Vice President of USA who comes from an Asian-African background, the shadow also belongs to an equally important person in the fight for equality in the historically racist nation. Because, the shadow has been created using a portrait of Ruby Bridges, an American civil rights activist. Ruby was the first black child to get admitted into the all-white William Frantz Elementary School in Louisiana in November 1960. The portrait was created by artist Norman Rockwell, which depicted Ruby going to school protected by security guards.

At that time, schools and all other public institutions and facilities were segregated for whites and blacks, and Ruby was one among six black students to pass a test to get admission to all-white schools, and she was the first to take admission, at the age of six. During her days at the schools, federal marshals were deployed at the school for her security, as there was apprehension that white students or their guardians may harm her, as the Southern states were still not open to end the segragation.

The combined image of Ruby Bridges and Kamala Harris depics the journey of women of colour in American society, from first girl child to study in an all-white school to the first woman with black background to become the vice president of the country.

Moitra’s long relationship with alleged plagiarism

Mahua was criticized for stealing content for her maiden speech in Lok Sabha. She was offended to a level that she submitted a breach of privilege in the Lok Sabha using her parliamentary powers, but the Lok Sabha speaker turned it down. A fact-checking website found out that the parts of speech she apparently picked, thinking of them as an essential piece of history, were actually from a poster in a gift shop of the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. She was later found copying a joke from infamous standup comedian Kunal Kamra. Moitra had later tried to clarify that the source of her speech in Lok Sabha was mentioned.

Lost in translation: Google ruins Pak PM Imran Khan’s congratulatory message to US President-elect Joe Biden

As Joe Biden is declared the President-elect of the United States of America, with Kamala Harris as the Vice President-elect on his side, congratulatory messages started pouring in from across the globe. Amongst others, Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, too, tweeted his congratulations. Except, he chose to do so in Urdu.

Google translation, however, left him embarrassed as the his congratulatory message ended up referring to the new leaders of US as ‘corrupt leaders who cover up the stolen national wealth and eradicate illegal tax havens’. Ah, well.

Google Translation of Imran Khan’s congratulatory message to Joe Biden and Kamala harris

As per the Google Translation software, he said, “Congratulations to the newly elected President on holding the World Summit on Democracy. I look forward to working with corrupt leaders to cover up stolen national wealth and eradicate illegal tax evasion sites. We will continue to work with the United States for peace in Afghanistan / the region.”

What he really wanted to say was that he hoped to end illegal tax havens and stealing of nation’s wealth by world leaders.

What a strange congratulatory message to give.

Imran Khan’s happiness may be short-lived

Imran Khan’s hopes for Joe Biden may be short-lived as the US President-elect is not quite too happy with Turkey President Erdogan.

In 2019, Biden said, “Turkey is the real problem,” and if he were the President, he will have a real ‘locked down’ conversation with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan to tell him he has to pay for what he has done across the borders of Syria and Iraq.

That Pakistan has made no effort to hide its love for Turkey is no secret. Biden had used this statement for his presidential campaign. The world will now wait and what how Biden makes Erdogan pay the price.

Madhya Pradesh: Illegal ashram of Computer Baba demolished, 6 arrested for obstructing action

0

On Sunday, the district administration in Indore launched a major crackdown on the illegally built ashram of Computer Baba, the godman with political ties with Congress leader Digvijay Singh. Baba had been actively campaigning against the BJP before the by-polls in the State.

Computer Baba, originally Namdeo Das Tyagi, had built his ashram spread across 46 acres. It has been reported that Baba had encroached upon 2 acres of government-owned Gaushala land in Gomatgiri area in Indore. The Municipal Corporation had served him a notice to Computer Baba two months ago, asking him to vacate the illegal property and pay up ₹2000 as fine.

The district administration went to the encroached site on Sunday with bulldozers and razed down the ashram. The team was led by ADM Ajay Dev Sharma and, SDM and police officers under the direction of Collector Manish Singh. The police have also arrested 6 people, who were trying to obstruct the demolition drive.

Computer Baba was accorded ministerial position under the previous BJP government in Madhya Pradesh, but he had left the post after six months and had become a critic of BJP during the state assembly elections. He was seen getting closer to Congress party at that time. During the elections, Computer Baba had led a Hath Yoga to pray for the victory of Congress leader Digvijay Singh from Bhopal, where he was facing Sadhvi Pragya from BJP. After Congress came to power, he was appointed as the chairman of the River Trust by the Kamal Nath government.

Digvijay condemns the demolition drive

While condemning the demolition, Congress leader Digvijay Singh tweeted, “With an intention to take revenge, the government is demolishing the temple and ashram of Computer Baba without any notice. This is the height of political vengeance. I strongly condemn this action.”

Computer Baba prayed for the victory of Congress leader Digvijay Singh

In May last year, Congress leader Digvijay Singh performed a Yagna in Bhopal where several Sadhus were invited. A Hath Yoga was conducted by Computer Baba, seeking success for Digvijay Singh in the Lok Sabha elections. However, later the Sadhus, who were present in the ritual, had revealed that they had nothing to do with the Congress election campaign, and they did not know that the program was organised for political purposes.

“My life is under threat, assaulted again by Mumbai Police,” Arnab Goswami appeals from a van as Mumbai Police hurriedly shifts him to another jail

On Sunday, Republic TV Editor-in-Chief made shocking disclosure stating that his life was under threat as he was being now shifted from the quarantine centre in Alibag to Taloja jail by the Mumbai Police.

Speaking to Republic TV reporters, Arnab Goswami said that he was yet again assaulted by the Mumbai Police. The Mumbai Police have reportedly moved Arnab Goswami from the quarantine centre to Taloja Jail in a police van. Shifting Arnab Goswami to Taloja jail was not intimated to Arnab Goswami’s lawyers, as reported by Republic.

“My life is under threat. My life is under threat. Not being allowed to speak to lawyers. They assaulted me this morning. Woke me up at 6am, said I can’t speak to my lawyers. Please tell people of India my life is under threat,” said Arnab Goswami.

Arnab’s disclosure regarding the threat to his life comes days after a magistrate court in Alibag had sent Arnab to 14 days of judicial custody. Arnab Goswami was arrested a few days ago in connection with a 2018 abetment to suicide case that was recently reopened by the Mumbai Police.

Bombay HC reserves order on Arnab’s arrest, says it will deliver on Monday

On Saturday, the Bombay HC had reserved the order in the plea challenging Arnab Goswami’s arrest. The Bombay High Court had then announced that the verdict will be pronounced at 3 pm on Monday.

After almost 6 hours of hearing, on Saturday, the Bombay High Court reserved its judgment in a petition filed to challenge Republic TV Editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami’s arrest in the 201 suicide case.

While withholding the verdict in the ad-interim plea filed by Arnab Goswami, the court said that it could not pass an order as it was already 6 PM. The Republic Media Network Managing Director had filed the plea requesting to declare his arrest as illegal, and also sought interim release from jail.

The prime argument raised in the HC petition is that the police has no power to suo moto re-open the case without getting a judicial order after the Magistrate passed a closure order in the case in 2019 based on the report submitted by police. The defence lawyers contended that action of the police officers to re-start the investigation in the case were illegal and hence the accused ought to be released.

Republic TV chief Arnab Goswami arrested

Continuing their witch-hunt against Republic TV chief, the Mumbai Police on Wednesday arrested Arnab Goswami. The Mumbai Police reached Republic TV Editor-in-Chief Arnab Goswami’s residence on Wednesday and physically manhandled him as they tried to detain him in a 2018 abetment to suicide case that was already closed.

A team of Mumbai Police arrested Republic TV chief Arnab Goswami after they physically assaulted and dragged him by grabbing his hair. In a shocking act, a large contingent of Mumbai Police was seen present at Goswami’s residence on Wednesday morning. In the below video, it can be seen how officials of the Mumbai Police were manhandling the Republic TV chief.

In May 2018, an FIR was filed against Arnab Goswami after an interior designer had committed suicide in Mumbai. In a suicide note, Anvay Naik claimed Goswami owed him a total of Rs 5.4 crore. However, Goswami was investigated and the case was closed by the court after a closure report was filed by the Police.

Kapil Mishra says he and Tajinder Bagga are arrested on their way to protest against Maharashtra govt’s atrocities

Bharatiya Janata Party leaders Kapil Mishra on Sunday took to Twitter to say that he and BJP leader Tajinder Pal Bagga have been arrested from Rajghat. They had called for a peaceful protest at Rajghat against Uddhav Thackeray led Maha Vikas Aghadi government in Maharashtra and the illegal arrest of editor-in-Chief of Republic TV, Arnab Goswami.

On Saturday, while calling the masses to join him in the protest, Mishra posted, “Friends the atrocities against Arnab Goswami have reached its climax.  Have to get down on the streets. Tomorrow 8 November at 9 am Rajghat. Set Arnab Goswami free.”

Bagga posted the information about the protest and asked everyone to come with the National Flag.

At around 9 AM, Mishra informed on his Twitter account that the Delhi Police had imposed Section 144 around Rajghat.

At around 10:15 AM on Sunday, Kapil Mishra said that he and Tajinder Bagga were arrested by the police. They were taken to Rajendra Nagar Police station.

More details awaited.

Congress leaders ‘apologise’ to Americans, claims PM Modi endorsed Trump for President. Except, they are lying: Read details

Hours after Joe Biden was declared the 46th president-elect of the United States, riot convicted Congress leader Hardik Patel and senior Congress leader Manish Tewari attempted to spread lies that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had endorsed President Trump for the 2020 US Presidential elections.

Taking to Twitter, Hardik Patel, who is currently the working president of Gujarat Congress, congratulated the President-elect Joe Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris and said that he was confident that Biden will unite America and provide it with a strong sense of direction.

Hardik Patel, soon after expressing his wishes to Biden, resorted to peddling blatant lies by claiming that last year Prime Minister Modi had proclaimed on American soil “Ab ki Baar, Trump Sarkar” to allege that it was a clear case of interference in other nations’ internal affairs.

“I hope India and Indians do not have to pay the price of this misadventure under the Biden-Harris administration,” said Hardik Patel in an attempt to politicise the issues of India-US ties.

Hardik Patel then went on to ask for forgiveness on behalf of 130 crore Indians. He also added that he was certain that the country will work earnestly with the new Government of the United States of America.

Not just Hardik Patel, Congress MP Manish Tewari also took to Twitter to share a news report saying PM Modi cheered for Donald Trump in Houston by saying ‘Abki baar, Trump sarkar’, and attempted to spread same lies as Patel. Typing in all capitals, Tewari accused PM Modi of picking sides in the internal democratic processes of another nations. He claimed that he hoped that it did not come back to haunt India.

Manish Tewari’s tweet

Did PM Modi really endorse Donald Trump?

Contrary to the claims made by the Congress leaders saying that Prime Minister Modi had endorsed Donald Trump for the US Presidential elections, PM Modi had never endorsed or tried to interfere in the 2020 US elections. The claims made by Patel and Tewari are misleading as PM Modi was just referring to a campaign run by Donald Trump campaign team prior to 2016 US Presidential elections.

At the mega ‘Howdy Modi’ event held in Houston in September last year, Texas, Prime Minister Modi had reminded the audience as to how during the 2016 US Presidential campaigning, Donald Trump had said ‘Abki Baar Trump Sarkar’ while appealing to Indian diaspora in the US.

PM Modi said, “We in India have connected well with President Trump, the words of candidate Trump, ‘Abki baar Trump sarkar’, rang loud and clear.” In October 2016, during the US Presidential campaigning, the then Presidential candidate Trump had said that the Indian and Hindu community in the US will have a ‘friend’ in the White House. Then, using Prime Minister Modi’s 2014 popular election slogan “Abki baar, Modi Sarkar”, Donald Trump had said, “Abki baar, Trump Sarkar” (This time, it will be a Trump government).

While addressing the Indian diaspora in the US, Prime Minister Modi had recalled the above campaign slogan by Trump, contrary to the claim that he was endorsing Donald Trump ahead of the 2020 US elections.

However, Congress leaders like Hardik Patel and Manish Tewari attempted to spread lies on social media that PM Modi endorsed President Trump for the 2020 US Presidential elections to create a divide between two countries.

Congress-friendly people also spread the lie

Other Congress-friendly journalists and media personalities as well as politicians also joined in to spread the lies that PM Modi had endorsed Trump for President.

Former Congress leader and now Shiv Sena MP Priyanka Chaturvedi too spread the lies. Other anti-Modi people also jumped on to the bandwagon. Former CPI(Marxist) leader used to write speeches for former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee. He also acted as strategist for BJP stalwart L K Advani. AAPians also did not want to be left behind in spreading lies. Neither did TMC leaders

Congress lies about PM Modi endorsing Donald Trump

This is not the first time that the Congress party and its media ecosystem have been spreading such lies against PM Modi.

Last year, soon after Howdy Modi’ event, the Congress leaders and its media ecosystem had spread same lies and had claimed that PM Modi was dangerously interfering in the US elections.

Congress MP Anand Sharma had accused the Prime Minister of ‘actively campaigning for Trump’ and reminded him that he was in the US as India’s Prime Minister and not a ‘star campaigner in the US elections.’

Even media had joined the Congress to spread misinformation about PM Modi’s alleged endorsement. Malini Parthasarathy, The Hindu co-chairperson, also dubbed this as ‘virtual endorsement’ of Donald Trump for reelections. Even Bloomberg, too, had misinterpreted and misrepresented the slogan used by Modi as endorsement for Trump for 2020.

‘Begani shaadi mein Abdullah deewana’ netizens mock Omar Abdullah as he almost declares Bihar the 51st state of USA

Joe Biden has won the presidential election in the United States of America. Kamala Harris, the Vice President-elect, has Indian connections, and Chettis cannot be more proud. She is the first woman Vice President of the United States. In all this good news for the Democrats in the US, something interesting has been happening in India. Several prominent personalities and leaders are doing the ‘happy dance’ celebrating Biden’s win. Interestingly they are comparing it to… wait for it… Bihar exit polls!

Bihar, which stands at 1/3 of the population of the US, on Saturday concluded the third and final phase of voting in assembly elections. Exit polls are favouring Mahagathbandan with Lalu’s RJD and Congress as the leading parties. For some bizarre reason, former J&K chief minister Omar Abdullah thinks that Biden winning in the US can be compared to the exit polls in Bihar. He said in a tweet, “To lose Bihar & the White House within days of each other would make for a pretty bad few days.”

As the tweet was restricted, there were not many replies to it as comments, but the quoted tweets are no less than a goldmine!

Netizens mock Abdullah for ‘almost’ declaring Bihar the 51st state of the US

Elections in Bihar have no connection with the elections in the US whatsoever. Neither Bihar election results will cause any disruption in the US, nor vice versa. It is not California or Texas that can actually impact the results. But because Omar Abdullah took the liberty to connect the two elections, netizens took it as an invitation to mock him and grabbed the opportunity without any delay. From using the idiom “begani shaadi mein Abdullah diwama,” which fitted perfectly, to reminding him of the abrogation of Article 370, here are some of the most interesting tweets for Abdullah.

Amusing to think that Omar Abdullah would think that the Republican Party of the US is an NDA ally for Bihar elections.

It is also important to remember that Biden has a pro-China stand. He is all set to lower down the ‘guards’ put up by the ex-US President Trump regarding restrictions on Islamic nations and others. Also, it seems like so-called liberals are yet to spot the recent pro-Israel stand of Kamala Harris. As a matter of fact, her husband, Doug Emhoff, is Jewish.

In 2019, she said that Israel meets international standards of Human Rights and added, “I think Israel as a country is dedicated to being a democracy and is one of our closest friends in that region, and that we should understand the shared values and priorities that we have as a democracy, and conduct foreign policy in a way that is consistent with understanding the alignment between the American people and the people of Israel.”

In 2017, at AIPAC, she categorically said that the US must stand with Israel. Her stand for Israel has not changed though Biden has been critical to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on several occasions. Though Harris has not appeared in any pro-Israel events in recent months, experts believe that “her support of the U.S.-Israel relationship among other views strongly aligns with the values of American Jews.”

NGO that monitors United Nations roasts Pakistan govt for justifying beheading over ‘blasphemy’

The UN watch group, a Geneva-based NGO that monitors the performance of the United Nations, on Saturday roasted the terror-state of Pakistan over its inclusion in the United Nations Human Rights Council.

It all started when the Government of Pakistan defended the brutal act of beheading of a French teacher in Paris by an Islamic terrorist by claiming that the blasphemy in the garb of freedom of expression is ‘intolerable’.

Govt of Pakistan insinuating beheading for blasphemy is ok

Essentially, Pakistan government indirectly attacked France and its people for standing up against radical Islamic terrorism following the beheading of a teacher by a Muslim immigrant terrorist two weeks ago.

As Pakistan cheered the act of killing non-Muslims for their alleged act of ‘blasphemy’, the UN Watch – the NGO that keep an eye on the mandates fulfilled by United Nations and its agencies, took to Twitter to slam Pakistan saying that the country’s presence on UN Human Rights Council is ‘intolerable’.

UN Watch roasting Pakistan

It is pertinent to note that Pakistan was recently re-elected to the United Nations Human Rights Council despite opposition from activist groups over its abysmal human rights records.

The Pakistan government, humiliated by the comment made by the UN watchdog, attacked the NGO by alleging that it was pro-Israel NGO that had evident bias against Muslims.

Arslan Khalid, the digital media adviser to Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, responding to UN Watch said that the NGO was another pro-Israel NGO with evident bias against Muslims. He claimed that the tweets made by the NGO had nothing to do with the United Nations.

Imran Khan’s media advisor’s tweet

Khalid said that tweets by ‘pro-Israel’ condemning Pakistan’s act of blasphemy only proved that Imran Khan’s comments of not accepting Israel have hurt all these anti Muslim lobbies.

Following the anti-Israel rant by Imran Khan’s adviser against the UN Watch, the NGO responding to Pakistan dared them against pretending to be a defender of Muslims by citing its stand on the issue of Uighur Muslims.

The NGO pointed out how the Pakistan government has overlooked the Human Rights violation by signing letters praising the Chinese government even after their inhuman actions against nearly one million Uighur Muslims.

The UN Watch also pointed out how Imran Khan has officially backed genocide against Muslims in China, by supporting the Communist Party of China’s human rights violations against Uighur Muslims.

Pakistan’s silence on atrocities against Uighur Muslims

Just a few days back, Pakistan experts had claimed that the persecution of Uighur (also spelt Uyghur) Muslims by the Communist government in China is a non-issue, and they are satisfied with the way China is handling the Muslims in the country.

Fearful of action by their masters, Imran ‘Taliban’ Khan, the civilian face of terror state of Pakistan, has largely chosen to be tight-lipped about the persecution of Uighur Muslims by China at a time when the whole world is taking a serious note of the issue. For a long-time now, Pakistan has evaded responding to Chinese atrocities against its own citizens- the Uighur Muslims in Xinjiang province of China.

Recently, Khan had defended China’s action against Uighur Muslims by saying, “China is a great friend” and has helped Pakistan when it reached rock bottom and hence Pakistan government is grateful to the Chinese government.

Pakistan, a ‘rented’ state of China, has been in a tough spot as it can neither condemn nor be decisive about the growing concerns about human rights abuse by China against Uighur Muslims in Xinjiang province of China.

Who are Uighur Muslims?

Uighurs are a Turkish-Muslims ethnic group living in Xinjiang, the largest and most western of China’s administrative regions surrounded by Mongolia, Russia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan and India. The Xinjiang autonomous region in China has had a long history of discord between the authorities and the indigenous ethnic Uighur population.

The indigenous Muslim Uighurs have a complicated relationship with China which is fuelled with growing discontent among Uighur people over ethnic, religious and cultural factors. However, the discontent of the Uighurs had turned to a form of extremism, which China intended to control by curtailing their commercial and cultural activities and by putting restrictions on Islam, strict control over religious schools.

Additionally, China has detained more than one million Uighurs in so-called “reeducation centres” and has forced them to undergo psychological indoctrination programs — like studying communist propaganda and giving thanks to Chinese President Xi Jinping. However, the Chinese government claims that the camps are simply vocational and training centres intended to combat extremism and to teach detainees some useful and valuable skills.

Breaking: Bombay HC to pronounce order in Arnab Goswami’s interim bail application challenging arrest in 2018 suicide case on 9th November

In a late-night announcement, the Bombay High Court has declared that it will be pronouncing its order in the bail plea moved by the editor-in-chief of Republic TV, Arnab Goswami on the 9th of November, Monday.

Notification by the High Court

The notification says that the order in the interim application moved by Arnab Goswami in the plea challenging the illegal arrest will be pronounced at 3 PM on 9th November.

The verdict will be pronounced by a Bench of Justices SS Shinde and MS Karnik will announce the verdict.

What happened in the hearing on Saturday by Bombay High Court in Arnab Goswami’s case

After almost 6 hours of hearing, on Saturday, the Bombay High Court reserved its judgment in a petition filed to challenge Republic TV Editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami’s arrest. While withholding the verdict in the ad-interim plea filed by Arnab Goswami, the court said that it could not pass an order as it was already 6 PM. The Republic Media Network Managing Director had filed the plea requesting to declare his arrest as illegal, and also sought interim release from jail.

The court said that it could not pass an order citing the considerations and compilations submitted to them. The court added that it will pronounce the orders someday in the next week.

Senior advocate Harish Salve cited the precedent of the Jagisha Arora’s habeas case where the Supreme Court ordered the release of Prashant Kanojia from custody last year. Salve argued that similar to Kanjia’s case, his client, Arnab Goswami, too, should be granted bail. However, the court refused to grant a verdict in the case, adding that the pendency of the petition will not bar the petitioner from approaching the sessions court for bail and if such an application is filed, it should be decided within 4 days.

On Friday, after hearing Arnab Goswami’s counsel, the division bench of Bombay High Court, comprising Justices S S Shinde and M S Karnik, had adjourned the plea of Republic TV’s editor-in-chief Arnab Goswami that sought revocation of the 2018 abetment of suicide case in which he has been arrested. The Bombay HC on Friday had said that the court needs to hear the other side before coming to a conclusion. Arnab Goswami also sought interim release from jail. The hearing had started on 5th November, a day after Raigad court had rejected the plea for police remand had sent him to judicial custody of 14 days.

ISRO successfully launches PSLV C-49 carrying India’s latest earth observing satellite and 9 other payloads

0

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) launched the country’s first space mission and 51st mission of Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) on Saturday. The Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle named as PSLV-C49 was launched from Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota today afternoon. It was carrying the all-weather earth imaging satellite EOS-01 from the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) along with nine international satellites.

According to a tweet from the official ISRO handle, all the nine satellites and EOS-01 have successfully separated and injected into their intended orbit.

The lift off was scheduled for 15:02 hours IST today but the mission was delayed by 10 minutes due to bad weather. The delay was sanctioned by the mission director.

The launching of the EOS-01 holds special significance for the ISRO and the Space Organisation chief K Sivan, who said that the space activity cannot be worked upon from a remote location and it requires engineers and technicians to come together for a successful launch.

“This mission is very special and unusual for ISRO. The space activity cannot be done from ‘work from home’. Each engineer has to be present at the lab. When talking about missions like these, each technician, employee has to work together,” Sivan said.

Earth Observation Satellite

ISRO today launched its Earth Observation Satellite EOS-01 through PSLV C-49. The satellite is meant for applications in agriculture, forestry and disaster management support.

This is the second earth observation satellite launched by ISRO within a span of one year. Last year on December 11, ISRO had launched a similar mission, through which it had launched RISAT-2BR1, another observation satellite similar to EOS-01. Following that, ISRO had launched a communication satellite GSAT-30 in space in January this year, but that was done using an Ariane rocket launched from French Guiana.

EOS-01 will work in conjunction with RISAT-2B and RISAT-2BR1 launched last year. It was earlier supposed to be named as RISAT-2BR2 as it was assumed to be the third of the three-spacecraft constellation aimed at providing all-weather round-the-clock service for high-resolution images. With EOS-01, India has moved towards a new naming convention.

Through the recently launched satellite, mapping and monitoring of land, forests, mapping of resources like water or minerals or fishes, weather and climate observations, soil assessment, and geospatial contour mapping will be possible.

EOS-0 was launched alongside 9 other customer satellites under a commercial agreement with NewSpace India Limited (NSIL), Department of Space. The customer satellites include one from Lithuania for technology demonstration, and four each from Luxembourg and USA for maritime applications and multi-mission remote sensing respectively.
