Nothing heroic about surgical strikes, previous governments did it too: Congress Leader Nagma Morarji

Actor-turned-politician and Congress leader Nagma on Wednesday questioned the heroics of the armed forces who conducted the Surgical Strikes on the terrorist camps inside Pakistan occupied Kashmir. Nagma went to claim that previous governments had also carried out similar surgical strikes.

Nagma, who was the part of a show along with actor Vivek Oberoi, downplayed the valour of the Armed Forces as she asserted that there was nothing heroic about carrying out surgical strikes. Interestingly, Nagma seems to be following a trend like other Congress leaders who had questioned the strikes by demanding proof. She also claimed that the previous governments have had also conducted surgical strikes on Pakistan soil.

In a hurry to discredit the armed forces and PM Modi, Nagma went on to propagate false facts regarding her claim of previous government conducting the surgical strike. In fact, the Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) of the Indian Army had categorically said that there were no surgical strikes took place before September 2016.

Soon after the surgical strikes, the Congress President Rahul Gandhi along with other senior leaders of the party had united in asking the government and the army for ‘proof of surgical strike’. Rahul Gandhi had even hurled allegations that the strikes were being announced because the Modi government wanted to do “khoon ki dalaali’ and that even Congress had conducted surgical strikes but had never announced the same.

Congress party had even questioned the recent Balakot air strikes and some of its leaders had demanded proof by the Indian government. The Congress ideologue and advisor to Congress President Rahul Gandhi, Sam Pitroda had questioned the casualty count of the Balakot airstrikes, carried out by the Indian Armed Forces.

Senior Congress leader Kapil Sibal had questioned the strikes by referring to international media outlets, claiming that they are citing no evidence of the strikes. Another Congress leader Digvijay Singh had called the terror attack an ‘accident’. He said that reports in various foreign media regarding the “air strike” have created a doubt in our minds. Madhya Pradesh CM Kamalnath had also raised doubts about the authenticity of the attacks.

The disdains of the Congress party towards the security forces is being increasingly manifested lately. In the Lok Sabha election manifesto released by the Congress, the Congress party has also promised to review the deployment of forces in the valley if voted to power and has also accused the Indian Army of heinous crimes like sexual violence in the Valley owing to AFSPA similar to the claims of Pro-Pak Kashmiri separatists.

AAP worker posts fake message of PM Modi’s sudden death, arrested

Aam Aadmi Party worker in Vadodara, Ghanshyam Parmar, who had allegedly put up morphed pictures with a fake message claiming Prime Minister Modi’s sudden death was arrested by Vadodara Police.

As per reports, Parmar had put up the fake message along with the morphed pictures on social networking site Facebook. BJP Youth Wing worker Jaisinh Parmar saw the pictures late night on April 1 and alerted the police. Jaisinh was at first shocked to see the morphed images with news of PM Modi’s sudden death. When he verified it on TV, he realised it was someone’s mischief. He later informed the police.

The cyber cell of Vadodara Police caught Ghanshyam Parmar who had posted it. During the interrogation, he admitted that he was an Aam Aadmi Party worker and he had downloaded the photo of the PM from the internet, edited it and posted it on Facebook with the text in Gujarati that said our beloved prime minister has suddenly died.

He was produced before the local court yesterday where he was granted bail. Parmar has claimed he did it as a part of the April Fools prank.

This Perambur candidate has cash asset of Rs 1.76 crore, had taken a loan from the ‘World Bank’

As the election season heats up, we come across bizarre news related to political parties and politicians. As per reports, reports an independent candidate in the Perambur by-election declared in the election affidavit that he has borrowed loan worth Rs 4 lakh crore from none other than the World Bank as well as has in possession Rs 1.76 lakh crores in hard cash.

Amusingly, as per the affidavit, he has even ‘returned’ all the money he took as a loan from the World Bank.

Jebamani Janatha Party candidate J Mohanraj is fighting for office in Chennai’s Perambur assembly constituency. The Election Commission has accepted his affidavit. In the affidavit form, under other dues section, Mohanraj claims he had a loan of Rs 4 lakh crores from the World Bank. In addition to this, the adjoining column asking him to declare his outstanding amount is marked nil. As per his self-declaration, the man has paid all of his Rs 4 Lakh crores loan back to the World Bank. Mohanraj also has on his name a few loans from Indian banks with paltry outstanding balance amount of Rs 3 lakhs. One more interesting fact about his election affidavit is his last filed Income Tax return. Mohanraj had filed his Income Tax return in the financial year of 2002-2003.

However, this is not the first time that Mohanraj has claimed to have possession of extraordinary fortunes. In 2009, before general elections, he had announced Rs 1977 crore in deposits, making him the richest candidate of the 2009 Lok Sabha elections. In a report by the Hindustan Times, Mohanraj explained that he thought it to be a patriotic duty to honestly declare one’s possessions and show how other leaders were making a mockery of the Supreme Court judgment and violating all electoral rules and norms.

He further added, “If what the top political leaders have declared as their assets are correct, then mine is also correct. I will say all my assets are in a Swiss bank and if you bring back black money, my name will also be on that list.”

Ab Pradesh mein Congress ka raaj hai, yahan rehna hai to hamari baat manni padegi: Traffic offenders to cop in MP

A case of political hooliganism has come to light from Congress ruled Madhya Pradesh where some people allegedly tried to threaten a traffic cop in name of Congress leader and former MLA Ashwin Joshi after the cop fined one of them for talking over phone while riding on a bike.

A video of a traffic policeman is doing rounds on social media in which he is seen calling out two people who allegedly tried to threaten him with their political connections after the cop fined them for violating traffic rules. The duo were using mobile phone while driving.

In the video, the policeman is seen telling that a person named Neelesh Jain was talking over phone while riding on a bike. Singh stopped him and fined him violating traffic rules after which Jain’s friend Akhilesh Jain, who claimed to be the nephew of former MLA Ashwin Joshi, threatened Singh by saying, “Ab Pradesh mein Congress ka raaj hai, yahan rehna hai to hamari baat manni padegi” (Now there is a Congress government in the state, if you want to live here do as we tell you to do).

According to Singh Akhilesh asked him to talk to former MLA Ashwin Joshi which he refused to do. Singh said, “Mai kisi ki baat nahi sununga. Koi galat mila to chalani karyavahi jarur karunga. Chahe aap Bala Bachhan ki dhamki de ya kisi aur ki” (I will not listen to anyone. If anyone one is found breaking rules I will definitely impose a fine. It wont matter if you threaten me in the name of Bala Bachhan (MP Home Minister) or anyone else). However, Singh was reportedly line attached after the incident.

Former CM of Madhya Pradesh Shivraj Singh Chouhan took to Twitter to condemn the Madhya Pradesh government for line attaching the policeman for doing his duty honestly.

Omar Abdullah, the entitled dynast, feigns his ‘humble origins’

The scion of one of the most prominent families in the state of Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah today feigned about his humble origins after BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma responded him in kind after his ad hominem attack against cricketer Gautam Gambhir.

Presuming that Gambhir had little knowledge about Jammu and Kashmir, Omar Abdullah had retorted to Gambhir saying that he should stick to the stuff he knows and that is about the IPL. Gambhir had, earlier, questioned Abdullah about controversial statements made him regarding a separate PM for J&K. In a rally, Abdullah was seen demanding a separate PM for Jammu and Kashmir and calling for the restoration of terms of J&K’s accession in 1947.

Defending Gambhir, BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma made a snarky remark against Abdullah. In a sharp rejoinder, Sharma said Abdullah should practice stick to the stuff he knows and that is about Hotel receptionist.

Responding to Sharma’s stinging riposte, Abdullah played the victim and asserted that he is proud of his ‘humble beginnings’ as a hotel receptionist. When he was retorted back in the same coin, Abdullah seemed to hide behind the charade of his humble background while accusing the BJP spokesperson of exhibiting arrogance.

However, the reality is different from what Omar wants us to believe. Omar Abdullah was born with a silver spoon into one of the most renowned families in Jammu and Kashmir. His father Farooq Abdullah had been the CM of the state several times since 1982.

Omar’s grandfather, Sheikh Abdullah, was considered as one of the most influential Kashmiri leaders of his time and a close friend of India’s first PM Jawaharlal Nehru. He too served as J&K’s CM. National Conference party, one of the key regional political parties in J&K was founded by Sheikh Abdullah. In their 2014 election affidavits, Omar Abdullah declared his assets worth over 65 lacs and his father, Farooq Abdullah declared assets worth over 4 crores.

For several decades now, Abdullahs have been the beneficiaries of entitlement that usually people from humble origins can’t even imagine. So it is tragically amusing when Omar Abdullah claims that he too belongs to a modest background. By doing so, he is either trying to gain public sympathy by feigning modesty or it’s a shoddy attempt by him to deflect the attention from his controversial statements regarding a separate PM for J&K.

In simple English, these are called sweetheart deals: Arun Jaitley in press conference on OpIndia expose about Rahul Gandhi’s lucrative deals

Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley addressed a press conference today on the OpIndia expose of Rahul Gandhi’s property deals with scam accused FTIL and Unitech. Earlier, he had written a post on Facebook on the matter. “Reports were published on a website which was, later on, picked up by others. I have personally gone through these reports,” he said.

Jaitley stated, “A sham make-believe tenancy was created. When the capital was created, then approach a dealer who is going through some personal problems as well. He will make an agreement to sell. The property would take years to build, so through an assured scheme, he will start paying money on the initial instalment that was made.

In the end, a significant chunk of the initial payment that was made has been earned back as well and in addition, commercial property has been gained. He then proceeded to add, “Who was the tenant here? A company called FTIl whose promoter Jignesh Shah took Rs. 5000 crores from 16,000 investors and did not return anyone’s money.”

“The developer he got was Unitech’s Shri Sanjay Chandra. He was involved in the 2G investigation. For the past one and a half years, he is in jail as per the directions of the Supreme Court. It wasn’t rocket science for Rahul Gandhi to identify the scamsters he was dealing with,” Jaitley said. “In simple English, these are called ‘sweetheart deals’,” he added.

The OpIndia report Arun Jaitley referred to can be read here.

Is the opposition scared of the film or Chowkidar’s Danda?: Vivek Oberoi mocks opposition for calling his movie a propaganda tool

Bollywood actor Vivek Oberoi has been soaked in hard-nosed controversy ever since his movie, which is a biopic of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is set to hit the theatres on April 5.

In a candid interview with Times Now’s Navika Kumar, Vivek composedly spoke about his upcoming movie and discussed the questions and accusations shot at him.

Taking a dig at the Congress, Vivek Oberoi, who has played the lead role in the upcoming biopic ‘PM Narendra Modi’, wondered today whether Congress leaders asking for a court ban on the film’s release in the middle of the national election campaign are “scared of the film or of the Chowkidar’s danda”.

Vivek was making a passing reference to Congress bigwigs like Kapil Sibal, Randeep Surjewala and Abhishek Manu Singhvi who had approached the Election Commission citing the movie as a propaganda tool ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. They called it a case of surrogate advertising.

Nevertheless, much to their dismay, the EC has said that it has no objection with the release of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s biopic.

Speculating why the opposition was getting so intimidated by just another movie, he said that “I don’t need to make Narendra Modi look like a hero. He is a hero”.

Similarly, Rajdeep Sardesai, one of the leading faces of the left-leaning Lutyens cabal Media, often referred to as the Michelangelo of Indian journalism, was thrown down the gauntlet as he questioned Vivek Oberoi, whom he invited on his show to discuss the movie the other day.

Rajdeep Sardesai, as usual in a hurry to discredit anything associated with PM Modi, straightaway questioned it as a ‘propaganda movie’ without even watching it. Rajdeep Sardesai questioned Vivek Oberoi on the timing of the release of the movie just ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, as Rajdeep claims that the movie is being released to influence elections.

Referring to Rajdeep “as a huge opinion maker”, Vivek Oberoi not only responded to allegations made by Rajdeep Sardesai with all politeness but also showed the mirror to him about his political biases and opinions. While responding to the controversy over the release of the movie, Vivek Oberoi shot back to Rajdeep asking whether his show should also be banned for influencing viewers through his opinions just like the movie.

Vivek Oberoi, slamming the opposition for making a major hue and cry about his upcoming movie asserted that the movie is not funded by any political party and is not part of any propaganda.

Justifying his decision to make a biopic on PM Modi, the actor said, PM Modi’s life story and vision inspires a billion people in India who proudly thump their chests at being called ‘Bhakts’. He added that he felt that the story of a poor man’s rise from humble beginnings to an inspiring leader of a billion people, had to be told.

Also taking a jibe at the Congress poll manifesto, Vivek Oberoi had mocked the Congress on Wednesday and said that the party should have released its manifesto on April 1.

On a debate with actor-turned-politician Nagma, Vivek, again speaking about the release of his movie, attacked the Congress manifesto released on April 2 and added that he wondered which country the manifesto was made for, hinting at Pakistan.

Congress asks Muslim league not to use their flags in Rahul’s Wayanad campaign as it might harm prospects in North India: Report

Since the Congress Party has decided to field President Rahul Gandhi from the ‘safe’ constituency of Wayanad in Kerala, the party has been trying hard not to let his candidature from this Hindu-minority constituency influence the equation in the North.

According to a report in Organiser, Congress workers have given strict instructions to Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) workers not to use the green Islamic flags during Rahul Gandhi’s campaign as it might harm their prospects in North India. Indian Union Muslim League is the second largest party in the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF).

According to the report, the instructions are being spread through social media like WhatsApp groups, Facebook and Twitter. Congress workers are appealing to the IUML workers not to bring the green flags to the rallies as it might go ‘against’ the party in the North. Rahul Gandhi is expected to file his nomination from Wayanad on Thursday. He will also hold a roadshow as declared by Congress.

The IUML is a successor of the All India Muslim League that had demanded the partition of India and was successful in doing so. The party was found involved in the planning as well as the execution of the brutal Marad massacre in Kerala in 2003 as per the report of Justice Thomas P Joseph Commission which was set up to investigate the incident. The report had declared the massacre as “a clear communal conspiracy, with Muslim fundamentalist and terrorist organisations involved”.

Rahul Gandhi’s decision to contest from the Wayanad constituency has not gone down well with the CPI(M) which mocked Gandhi for his decision by calling him “Pappu”. CPI(M) leader and former Kerala Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan has also labelled the Gandhi scion as “Amul Baby”.

Two Hindu girls gets forcibly converted to Islam and married off in Mamata Banerjee’s West Bengal: Report

In a horrific case of Love Jihad, two Hindu girls, including a minor have been forcibly converted to Islam and then married off to Muslim men in Kolkata, reported MyNation.

According to the report, the father of the girls had alleged in his complaint that Muslim youths had been pursuing various girls in his locality including his daughters. The accused Muslim youth had then threatened to kill the girls and their family, to forcing them to accept Islam and get married, said the victim’s father.

Subsequently, the two daughters went missing on 11th of March and the father of the victims had lodged a complaint the very next day. Since then, the father of the victim has been trying hard since then to get justice. He also lodged a second complaint on the 31st of March.

Reportedly, the minor girl was rescued after the police took action on the complaint however they could not trace the elder daughter. The father said that minor girl, who returned home narrated her ordeal. The minor girl had claimed that she and her sister were threatened and forced to marry the accused who promised to kill their parents and brother if they didn’t cooperate. They were also threatened with an acid attack.

“Taking advantage of her tender age, the aforesaid accused person and his friends threatened both my daughters that they would kill her family members including me, my wife and my son and literally forced her to marry him after converting into Islam. On being refused, the same kind of threat continued,” said father as quoted by MyNation.

The father of the victim claims that the minor daughter was married off at a Badi Masjid in Kolkata’s Burra Bazar area, after passing her off as an adult in the Muslim marriage registrar.

Shockingly, the father has also accused Kolkata police of not registering an FIR or conducting medical tests on the minor daughter to determine whether she was also subjected to sexual assault.

Meanwhile, the National Commission for Women has taken suo moto cognisance of the matter and has urged the Bengal director general of police to take “strict and immediate action”. In a letter to the DGP, the NCW wrote that it has “taken a serious note of the report that despite having lodged a second complaint on March 31, 2019, the police are yet to file an FIR.”

Recently, similar to the Kolkata incident, two Hindu girls were taken away and were forcibly converted to Islam followed by a nikah in Pakistan. The two girls, Raveena (13) and Reena (15), both minor were kidnapped by Muslims from their home in Ghotki district in Sindh on the eve of Holi.

Unfortunately, such incidents seem to be rampant in India too. There have been many cases where Muslim men fake their identity as Hindus to approach Hindu girls. Last year in West Bengal, a woman named Subhologna Chakraborty was shot dead by a Muslim man after she refused to marry him discovering his Muslim identity.

Time to hold Rahul Gandhi accountable for the medieval mindset that allows the shameless insult of Minister Smriti Irani

Recently, at a programme in Nagpur city, Jaydeep Kavade, the son of the local MLA of People’s Republican Party, a strong ally of the Congress (I) and the Nationalist Congress Party, got to the podium. On the stage with him was the Nagpur MP hopeful from the Congress (I), an ex BJP man called Nana Patole.

Amid cheers from the audience, Kavade launched into a spirited speech about defending the Constitution of India, as written by Babasaheb Ambedkar, from amendments of any type. Fair enough, right? Everyone has the right to an opinion on the Constitution and whether it is up for amendment, including members of a party that has amended it over 80 times. Unfortunately, that was not how Mr Kavade chose to make the point.

He chose to earn brownies by maligning Mr Patole’s chief political foe Nitin Gadkari, via the cheapest, lowest weapon – a scandal with a female colleague. A rough translation of his speech would be:

Smriti Irani was sitting close to Gadkari and said she will change the Constitution written by Babasaheb. But Mr Patole, who was in that party, stood up and said No!! Changing the Constitution isn’t the same as changing husbands, and you know what these women with big bindis are like!!

The actual Marathi words are too filthy for me to transcribe but in idiomatic vernacular, Kavade was beyond crudely slandering Mrs Irani. Forget the assembled crowd, Patole the MP hopeful himself patted Kavade, thus endorsing the speech.

Like Bangalore traffic, or Pakistan’s hand in terror attacks on Indian soil, or death and taxes, there is an inevitability to Mrs Irani being the subject of spiteful personal and professional slander at any time. If you landed in India, and read statements like Kavade’s, you wouldn’t guess that she was not only a Miss India finalist but also the highest paid TV actress in her time. In fact, she defined prime time in India (I was the client paying for ads on her show, trust me on the per second rates). She overcame humble circumstances to reach a Union Ministry. In a country where the political elite still has a chokehold on exposure, jobs, and recognition, being self-made like her should be an asset, yet here we are! Kavade’s speech was cut into a WhatsApp forward within minutes and circulated widely in what is perhaps the lowest news cycle for female politicians in recent times.

Kavade’s *Big bindi* reminds me of Surekha Punekar, the judge on Apsara Aali, Z Network’s wildly popular programme on Lavani dancers. When it was being speculated that Ms Punekar was a likely Congress (I) candidate for Pune, supporters of the NDA went wild with dance memes. One compared her dance with Mr Bapat’s shaking both left feet at a function. What rankled though, was the observation that the depleted Congress (I) could only get a *Nachnewali* as a candidate. Lavani is Maharashtra’s widely recognised dance form. Surekha Punekar’s entire career was thus reduced on the mere speculation of political candidacy, to someone who dances for others’ public entertainment.

Mrs Irani’s former profession, that gave her stunning recognition and public affection and the sort of recall necessary to pull crowds is equally held against any actress joining politics. The names of Urmila Matondkar’s parents are well known. Yet, folk conflated her parents with Amrita Singh’s, to tie in with her marriage to a Kashmiri Muslim model. Urmila has been at the top of her profession too, handling commercial and art projects to huge acclaim. I remember an interview where she spoke about her favourite French and Russian writers. The interviewer challenged her, considering that her education was in the vernacular. She replied that she’d read their Marathi translations, and great writing transcends language. A successful woman of that sort of presence of mind should be questioned on why she’s joining the party of Kavades. How would she feel sharing a stage with this sort of deplorable mentality, being a former actress herself? Mocking Ms. Matondkar on her former profession, her marital choices etc. does no favours to voters, when she should be closely questioned on what she brings to the table as a politician.

Speaking of actresses, Sumalatha Ambarish, beauteous star of the 80s and widow to one of Karnataka’s most beloved actor-politicians Rebel Star Ambarish, first-hand felt the thud of the UPA’s low blows. Sumalatha’s biggest crime is that she is fighting as an Independent against the heir-presumptive to the Devegowda dynasty, Nikhil Kumaraswamy, a former actor himself. Speaking to reporters in New Delhi, Revanna, the older brother of Karnataka Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy, and a minister in the state JDS-Congress (I) government observed thusly, “It’s not even a month since her husband died and she is already nursing political ambitions and wanting to contest elections. See what level they have gone to”. Ambarish was a senior Congress politician. When he passed on, few senior Congress (I) folk turned up, including Mr Rahul Gandhi’s social media chief Divya Spandana. The erstwhile actress, and coalition partner to the JDS, predictably had nothing to say on this crude remark. Nagma, another Congress (I) actor-politician had to fight off pawing males of her own party at every gathering she attended last election cycle. Predictably, no one held either her party’s leadership nor the female dynasts in her party accountable.

Mrs Irani’s ideological and political opponents seemed fixated on her appearance because in the 21st century of self-care, she seems to not care at all. She’s a happily married mother and busy professional. She’s not obliged to look pretty for anyone. Besides, looks aren’t an indicator of anything. Ask Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan, whose appearance overrides her medical degree, and her courage to publicly represent the NDA in a super hostile socio-political environment. Dr Tamilisai’s wedding was attended by both MGR and Kalaignar, and she looks like a doll-like Maniam drawing. The supporters of these two towering politicians though, take no prisoners when it comes to her.

Let me quote her at an event organised by the Entrepreneurs Council of India ~ “Being one of most trolled politicians on social media from (TN), she acknowledged that it was her ‘personal appearance’ and ‘curly hair’ that often featured in memes and not her actions as a politician. Deeming them misogynistic, she said the mentality was deplorable. “Not every woman can be fair. I don’t mind the Vadivelu memes. It is ironic that we are neighbours,” she said to thunderous applause.” Being a single man, Prime Minister Modi makes several Romeo-like appearances in Dr Tamilisai memes, doubling the cringe, and the irony. The very folk who have successfully isolated Tamizhnadu for tremendous political gain through Moolnivasi Dravidian Aborigine whatchamacallit, savagely mock the complexion and hair of a woman who looks like the mother, wife, daughter of nearly all of them.

If sensible, hard-working, ambitious and civic-minded women from all professional walks of life are to enter politics, then the path for them should not be strewn with filthy innuendo. How many would have families and colleagues willing to view WhatsApp forwards as occupational hazards? Congress wants to bring in the Women’s Reservation Bill to allegedly increase women’s participation in the body politic, a move widely cited to show their progressive stance on women’s affairs. However, their medieval supporters and representatives belie this.

It’s time to hold Rahul Gandhi and his leadership firmly accountable for discourse, as well as the treatment of women who want to enter politics, over and above such superficial declarations.
