‘What is your source of income?’ Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad targets Rahul Gandhi over his assets

Union Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad addressed a press conference today and raised questions about Rahul Gandhi’s source of income. In a recent report, OpIndia.com had revealed Rahul’s seemingly dubious dealings and his rapidly increasing assets.

Prasad said, “Rahul Ji, what is your source of income? We have seen a Vadra model of development. And now, we are seeing a Rahul Gandhi model of development.” “In 2004, he declared his assets to be Rs. 55,38,123. In 2009, it became 2 crores and in 2014, it became 9 crores. Rahul Gandhi, please tell us about this model of development. Without any ostensible source of income, from a mere 55,38,123 rupees in 2004, your assets grew to 9 crores in 2014.” he said.

Prasad also mentioned Gandhi Parivar’s links to FTIL, a company that was at the heart of the NSEL scam. “It is a very serious matter,” he remarked while saying that the FTIL had rented Rahul Gandhi and his sister’s property and they had received lakhs of rupees as interest-free payments in rent.

The Union Minister also highlighted Rahul Gandhi’s links to Unitech. He asked the Congress President, “Have you bought two properties from Unitech? The BJP is asking today if you have purchased two properties from Unitech.” He asked further, “It is important to talk about Unitech because of their link to the 2G scam. As I have said before, the 2G judgment was legally unsound and morally improper. But a comment was made by the judge which is very interesting. He said that he was waiting for 7-8 years for evidence but it never came. So, is there a link between the wait for evidence and the purchase of property?”

Prasad ended his press conference with a demand for Rahul Gandhi to answer the questions that he had raised.

Complaint filed against AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal for allegedly hurting religious sentiments

A complaint has been filed against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for allegedly hurting religious sentiments. On the eve of Holi, AAP chief had tweeted an ‘anti Hindu’ image.

The image depicted a man running behind a ‘Swastika’ shape with a club in his hand, driving out the symbol that is considered holy in Hinduism, Buddhism and Jainism in India.

The caption on the image read, “Hoping for a Delhi, that I actually wouldn’t mind visiting or living in.” The image, which is strange for a chief minister to share on multiple levels, did not go down too well with Twitterati.

While on one hand, Kejriwal seems to be encouraging people to indulge in violence, it also appears like an insult to the Hindu symbol of ‘Swastika’ (in the second figure) which is being beaten up by a man with a club. The image Kejriwal shared could be argued to be anti-Nazi message as Nazis had ‘stolen’ the Swastika symbol for their insignia. However, neither Kejriwal’s tweet nor the caption of the image he had tweeted clarified that he was talking about the Nazi insignia and not the Hindu symbol Swastika.

It is not new for the Delhi Chief Minister to hurt religious sentiments. In 2016, during the run-up to the Punjab assembly elections, AAP’s youth manifesto had an image of The Golden Temple which had the AAP party symbol of the broom right next to it.

AAP’s then Delhi Dialogue Commission head Ashish Khetan had also gone ahead to say that the manifesto was as holy to them as the Guru Granth Sahib or the Geeta, thereby trivialising the holy scriptures.

Rahul Gandhi ditches the ‘Mobile factory’ tirade, floats ‘Makhana against pop-corn’ proposal

Rahul Gandhi addressed a rally at Purnea, Bihar today as part of his campaign for the Lok Sabha Elections. In his speech, the Congress President expressed his unconventional desire to get rid of popcorn from cinema halls and replace them with Makhana from Purnea.

Rahul Gandhi said, “If open a food processing unit here in Bihar, we will remove popcorn from cinema halls and replace them with Makhana. People all over the world who are eating popcorn now will eat Makhana from Purnea, from Bihar.”

For those unaware, Makhana, known as Fox Nuts in English, is a popular snack that’s abundantly produced in Bihar. The Fox Nuts are a part of the Lotus flower and are known to be highly nutritious. At this point, however, Rahul Gandhi’s Makhana promise reminds one of Donald Trump’s legendary campaign promise, “We will build the Wall and Mexico will pay for it!” The likelihood of them being fulfilled appeared nil from the very beginning.

Rahul Gandhi’s theory attracted a lot of comments on Twitter.

The Congress President’s unconventional desires and visions for the country have gained quite a reputation across the country. Before Rahul Gandhi jumped on the Makhana bandwagon, he had a certain craze for mobile phones and their factories.

He has, in the past, floated the idea of ‘Made in Bhopal’, ‘Made in Dungarpur’, ‘Made in Chitrakoot’ mobile phones. He had also attracted quite a bit of ridicule after asking why the government of Chhattisgarh did not buy mobile phones from BHEL. He has also expressed his wish to see the Obamas use ‘Made in Jaunpur’ utensils. Not merely that, Rahul Gandhi had also remarked that one day he wished to see ‘Made in Lucknow’ mangoes.

The scion of the Nehru-Gandhi dynasty also appeared to suggest that he will build a machine that will convert potatoes into gold, which is his way of saying it will make potato farming very lucrative.  He had also expressed a desire for connecting MRI machines. Despite such novel ideas, the Congress President’s innovative proposals remain in the realm of imagination only despite his party ruling in several states. Also, as PM Modi had pointed out, none of the promises of factories and plants find a place in Congress’ own manifesto.

Amar Singh, former Samajwadi Party leader, now says #MainBhiChowkidar

Amidst the speculations that former Samajwadi Party (SP) leader Amar Singh may join the BJP, he has now extended his support to Prime Minister Modi’s “Mai Bhi Chowkidar” campaign he had launched earlier this week.

‘Chowkidar’ Amar Singh on Twitter

Prime Minister Modi had started the ‘Chowkidar’ campaign in response to the smear campaign launched by Congress President Rahul Gandhi and his Party by coining slogans like “Chowkidar Chor Hai”.

Singh extended his support to the campaign by adding Chowkidar before his name on his Twitter profile. Singh slammed senior SP leader Ramgopal Yadav who had accused the Modi government of perpetrating the Pulwama terror attack for serving a political purpose.

Singh attacked Yadav saying that he crossed all the limits and decency in calling the Pulwama terror attack as pre-planned. He questioned the timing of Yadav’s remarks as all the Chief Secretaries of SP government’s regime are lodged in jail. Singh also came out in defence of PM Modi on the issue of Nirav Modi.

Singh said that Modi was targeted when Nirav Modi escaped and he still being blamed. after the businessman has been arrested, in the name of political opportunism.

In February, Amar Singh had donated ancestral property in Azamgarh worth Rs 15 crore to RSS-affiliated organisation, Seva Bharti. Amar Singh had resigned from all posts of SP in 2010, following which he was expelled from the party by Mulayam Singh Yadav. Recently, he has been inching closer towards Bhartiya Janata Party. However, Amar Singh has kept his card reserved, and never responded to speculations.

Staring at an imminent defeat in Amethi, Congress on the scout to secure a safe seat for Rahul Gandhi

After Union Minister Smriti Irani was declared as the BJP candidate to fight from the Amethi constituency against Congress President Rahul Gandhi, it has rung alarm bells for several Congress state units, with many feverishly scouting for a second constituency to ensure a guaranteed victory for Rahul.

After Karnataka and Tamil Nadu Congress units, now the All India Congress Committee General secretary Oommen Chandy has requested Rahul Gandhi to fight from the Wayanad constituency in Kerala.

A few days back Karnataka Congress had urged Rahul Gandhi to fight the Lok Sabha election from a seat in Karnataka. Former CM Siddaramiah pressed Rahul Gandhi to fight elections from Karnataka. The state Congress chief Dinesh Gundu Rao had a similar demand of the Congress president.

As per the latest reports, Congress’ Randeep Surjewala has stated that Wayanad is being ‘positively considered’.

Tamil Nadu Congress also echoed similar sentiments and requested Rahul Gandhi to chose any of seats in Tamil Nadu to contest the upcoming Lok Sabha elections apart from his Amethi constituency.TNCC secretary claimed that Rahul Gandhi should be seen as an asset of the people of India and not just as a northerner. P Chidambaram’s son Karti Chidambaram, embroiled in INX media case also advocated Rahul Gandhi’s Lok Sabha candidature from Tamil Nadu.

Now, the Kerala Congress chief Mullapally Ramachandran declared on Saturday that Congress President Rahul Gandhi has given his nod to fight from the Wayanad Parliamentary seat, apart from Amethi. The Congress was under tremendous pressure for several weeks now to find a supposedly safe seat in southern India, along with his Amethi constituency in Uttar Pradesh.

Congress has realised that their president Rahul Gandhi’s fight against the BJP stalwart Smriti Irani in Amethi won’t be a cakewalk. With the kind of commitment Irani has displayed and her dedication to work for Amethi being palpable, the Congress knows that the fight in Amethi will be a closely fought one, with odds stacked up against their president’s victory.

It seems that at least the southern units of Congress have internalised that a defeat in Amethi is imminent, for they are imploring Rahul Gandhi to fight from the supposedly ‘safe’ Lok Sabha constituencies in their states, as a ‘Plan B’, in case he loses to Irani.

Winning a Lok Sabha seat is crucial to maintaining the legitimacy of his stake at PM candidature should there be a possibility of a Mahagathbandhan government at the center or, in worst case, to save the face of Congress, because the party president losing in elections might mean for the Congress the loss of relevance in national politics.

Modi, not Imran Khan, is a man of peace

0

The discourse after the release of Wing Commander Abhinandan resulted in divergent views being expressed by leading political parties, their representatives and sympathizers. Supporters of the government viewed it as a victory of Prime Minister’s foreign policy while some of the supporters of those who’re in the opposition decided to hail Imran Khan as a “statesman”. It is disturbing to see how in the process of hating Modi, some of our journalists and politicians have started to attribute everything to anyone but Modi.

This entire episode reminds me of Modi’s support to Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh who was infamously called as a “dehati aurat” by then Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. PM Modi not just condemned the statement but stood resolutely with India’s Prime Minister irrespective of party lines. I didn’t see the leaders of Congress ever put the interest of India ahead of party politics over the last five years and perhaps this is the reason behind their inability to come up with a concrete agenda during an election year.

But this article is not about the Congress or about politics, it is about Prime Minister Modi and India’s relationship with Pakistan. I hope this serves as a gentle reminder to my liberal friends who hailed a simple act of release of a Prisoner of War within 48 hours due to enormous global pressure on Pakistan as a reason enough to erroneously term Khan as a statesman just to avoid giving Modi his due. I hope (against hope) that with this gentle reminder, they may feel ashamed for what they’ve done and may cease to be so biased in the future.

It is no secret that even before Modi took oath as the Prime Minister, he made a departure from convention and invited all SAARC leaders including Nawaz Sharif to his swearing-in ceremony. This gesture demonstrated the clear willingness of Modi to let start afresh the process of dialogue between India and Pakistan. On 26th of May 2014, when Modi took the oath, Nawaz Sharif was also present while on a subsequent day bilateral talks were held with all leaders of SAARC, including Pakistan. During the talks both Modi and Nawaz expressed the desire to initiate the process of dialogue and Modi suggested foreign secretary talks and trade through the Wagah Atari Border. On his first day as the Prime Minister, Modi made a big gesture towards mending relationships with Pakistan.

But this was not the last such gesture as in Paris, Nawaz Sharif expressed his desire to Modi for India’s participation at the foreign minister level during the heart of Asia conference on 9th December 2015. Modi agreed immediately and External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj went for the meeting. While she was there, she was invited to Nawaz Sharif’s house for lunch where his family wanted to meet her. Our foreign minister met with four generations of his family and his mother was delighted to have met someone from India (as she herself was originally from India). Sharif’s mother expressed her desire to see peaceful relationships between the two countries and our foreign minister was touched by such an emotional request. Consequently, despite not having the mandate, the dialogue was resumed under a new name – “Comprehensive Bilateral Dialogue”. This was done because the previous name had way too much of legacy issues.

9th December 2015 the comprehensive dialogue was resumed. On 25th December, Modi was in Afghanistan and the day also happens to be Nawaz Sharif’s birthday. Nawaz called Modi and said that he had a function at his daughter’s that day. On the way back from Kabul, Lahore would be on the way so Prime Minister Modi decided to accept the invitation and stop at Lahore while he returned to Delhi. Unfortunately, on 2nd January, this gesture by Modi and India was reciprocated by Pakistan when the Pathankot air base was attacked. On this too, Congress decided to play politics as it was said that Vajpayee went to Lahore and Kargil happened while Modi went to Lahore and Pathankot happened.

Post the attack, unlike before, Pakistan did not completely deny the role of non-state actors in the attack and offered a joint investigation. This was a departure from their conventional response so Modi gave them the benefit of doubt and agreed to joint investigations. Of course, it was evident that the joint investigations went nowhere as domestic pressure on Pakistan’s civilian government curtailed them from taking a strong position on terrorism.

When Uri happened, the government decided that enough is enough and we can not take the death of our soldiers to such unconventional war as our destiny. The surgical strikes were an outcome of Pakistan testing India’s patience as it finally realized that this was the point where we drew the line. When Imran Khan took over, he expressed a desire to resume the process of dialogue with India by writing a letter to Modi. Our foreign minister was going for the United Nations General Assembly, so Modi suggested that she meet her Pakistani counterpart. Within 12 hours of India’s spokesperson announcing a meet between the two foreign ministers, Kashmir police’s 3 jawans were held hostages and eventually murdered. It is evident that every time the civilian leadership of Pakistan tries to initiate the process of dialogue, so-called non-state actors derail the process. This reflects badly on Pakistan as it demonstrates how the civilian leadership has little to no control over these elements within Pakistan.

When Pulwama happened, it was clear that India government will take necessary action towards ensuring that those responsible are held accountable. Oh, and post the air-strikes, India went on with business as usual while Pakistan was in constant fear of escalation from India’s side. It must be noted that India’s air-strikes were on non-civilian and non-military targets, but Pakistan responded by violating India’s airspace and making a failed attempt at attacking India’s military establishments. This attempt by Pakistan led to them capturing wing commander Abhinandan and subsequently releasing him within 48 hours. We can ignore the “propaganda” video that was made by Pakistan’s military leadership, but the fact remains that Abhinandan’s return was because of mounting international pressure on Pakistan combined with a fear of escalation.

This chain of events is important for two reasons, first, it shows how the liberals were too scared to give credit to Modi for the air-strikes and subsequent release of wing commander Abhinandan and secondly, it shows how political considerations subsume any regard for national interest. The occurrence of events categorically states that it is India which has consistently worked with Pakistan towards resuming the process of peace, however, repeatedly, the elements within Pakistan have tried to derail the process.

Modi wants good relations with Pakistan but in the time of peace, when there are no gunshots and no lives lost. It is Modi who is a man of peace and while Imran may claim to be a man of peace, the fact remains that he is no different from those who were before him. Unfortunately, he may not be any different from those who may replace him in the near future.

Kashmir: Pakistani terrorists murder 12 year old boy after using him as human shield

Lashkar-e-taiba terrorists murdered a 12-year-old boy in Hajin, Kashmir, Atif Mir, who they had taken as a hostage after security forces surrounded them in a counter-terrorism operation. The terrorists were then killed by the security forces during a gun battle.

The terrorists, Ali and Hubaib, were both reportedly Pakistani nationals. There were affiliated with Lashkar-e-Taiba.

Numerous appeals were made to the terrorists to let the child go, however, they did not heed the requests. A village elder told the terrorists, “Do whatever you want, but this is not Jihad but Jahalat. Please release the boy,” he said. However, they murdered the helpless child.

The incident occurred 33 km North of Srinagar at Mir Mohalla, Hajin, where the terrorists had forced themselves inside the boy’s house at gunpoint, police officials said on Friday. The terrorists wanted to rape his sister but the family managed to help her escape. Infuriated, they thrashed the family members, including the boy, and his uncle, Hameed. The neighbours hearing the cries of the family, informed the Police.

The forces then managed to secure the release of the parents and other family members, however, the child and his uncle remained trapped inside. While the Police made an appeal through Aqeqa Begum to release her nephew and husband, they simultaneously made a room intervention and managed to get Hameed out. The child, however, could not be rescued. He was killed by the terrorists.

“The whole night I was praying for his life. Why anyone would kill him? He was just 12,” Shareefa Jan, Atif’s mother told The Indian Express. “I pleaded before the militants to release him but they refused to allow my son come out. What had my son done to them? He was too young to be dead.”

According to reports, the terrorists were Pakistanis. At the funeral, the villagers were extremely angry and openly criticized the Pakistani terrorists for using a 12-year-old boy as a human shield and murdering him.

Uttar Pradesh: Shaqir and Sabir arrested over communal clash on Holi which killed one and injured four

Two men, Shaqir Ali and Sabir have been arrested in Pilibhit, Uttar Pradesh over a communal clash which broke during Holi celebrations. One person was killed and four others injured in a communal clash which erupted over Holi celebrations at Kukari Khera village under Jahanabad police station in Pilibhit district, Uttar Pradesh on Thursday.

An FIR has been lodged against four accused following a complaint filed by the deceased’s side. A person named Jaiprakash (45), accompanied by others namely, Subhash, Raj Rishi, Pintu and Chhedalal, who were playing Holi on March 21, got into a tiff with few people of the Muslim community.

A scuffle ensued as the people of the minority community assaulted Jaiprakash and others for throwing colour on them. Soon the fight took an ugly turn with the two sides joined by others, started pelting stones at each other and assaulting each other with sharp tools and sticks. UP police, which reached the spot immediately after getting the information about the tussle, had to resort to lathi charge to disperse the mob.

In what transpired, Jaiprakash was severely injured and rushed to Jahanabad primary health centre. He was later referred to a private hospital in Bareilly where he succumbed to his head injuries on Friday.

There is tension in the village after the incident. Police and paramilitary forces have been deployed in the village. After the incident, the families of the accused have reportedly locked their houses and fled from the village.

Following the death of Jaiprakash, the FIR which was lodged against Sabir, Shaqir Ali and others would now be converted into IPC section 302 (murder) said Yogendra Kumar, CO of Jahanabad circle.

Such incidents of intolerance have been rampant in recent times. In a similar incident, communal tension had flared up in Agra after one group had opposed organising Shivratri in the locality on March 4.

Similarly, in March last year, clashes broke out in the Nawada district of Bihar, following the desecration of Lord Hanuman’s idol in the district’s Gondapur village. As per local reports, the discovery of this desecration had resulted in irate locals blocking the Patna-Ranchi highway. This had also ultimately escalated into a clash between two communities.

The said violence included torching of shops and vandalising vehicles and also resulted in the equipment of media persons getting damaged. In order to control the mobs, the police had to resort to firing shots in the air.

Pakistan: Two underage Hindu girls abducted from Sindh, converted to Islam and married

Two Hindu girls, sisters aged 13 and 15, were abducted on March 20 and later converted to Islam, in Dharki town of Sindh’s Ghotki district in Pakistan. As per reports, the girls were abducted while they were celebrating the festival of Holi. The minority Hindu community has taken to streets demanding action against the perpetrators.

According to the Times of India report, a First Information Report in the case was only lodged after a heavy protest by the minority community. Pakistan Hindu Sewa Welfare Trust’s Sanjesh Dhanja told TOI that girls were first abducted then converted to Islam after marriage. The families of the girls tell that people from the Kohbar and Malik tribes carried out the crime.

The Karachi Police, however, claim that girls embraced Islam without pressure, and had left home on their own will. Such incidents, reportedly, are becoming increasingly common in Pakistan where minor girls are abducted. The families struggle to get an FIR registered, but by the time an FIR is registered, the girls are usually converted and already married to Muslim men. The local cleric produces a conversion certificate and the family is left in a legal lurch.

Many rights activists and journalists have slammed the incident and criticised the blatant flouting of child marriage laws. The videos of the girls being married are doing rounds on social media. There are also videos of Muslim clerics declaring that the girls have accepted Islam. However, as both girls are minors, the inaction of the government to protect children from abduction, marriage and forced conversions is being called out.

In 2016, the Sindh Assembly had introduced the Forced Conversion Bill to protect the rights of minorities. It was passed jointly by members of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and the Pakistan Muslim League. However, the bill could not see the light of day as the Governor was pressurised not to ratify the bill.

Gujarat Congress nominates 17 candidates for Jamnagar Lok Sabha seats, Hardik Patel does not make the cut

In a press conference convened by the Jamnagar Congress chief and organizational secretary, the candidature of 17 nominees and their bio-data have been handed over to the party high command for the selection of the candidates for the single Jamnagar Lok Sabha seat. Patidar agitation leader Hardik Patel, who recently joined the Congress party in presence of Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi is conspicuously absent from the list.

The 17 candidates proposed for the Jamnagar lok Sabha seat include: Adityasinh Jadeja, district party chief JT Patel, , Bhikhubhai Varotariya, district panchayat president Vashrambhai Rathod, Jentibhai Donga, Jentibhai Sabhaya, Ashokbhai Lal, Nathabhai Gagaliya, MLA Chirag Kalariya, MLA and former MP Vikram madam, Hemantbhai Khava, Jivanbhai Kumbharvadia, Pujaben Nakum, Mulubhai Kandoriya, Meramanbhai Goriya, Mitalben Goriya and Arvindbhai Gajera.

It is notable to highlight that for a single Lok Sabha seat of Jamnagar, Congress Jamnagar Unit has shared 17 candidates with the party high-command to arrive at the final decision of whom should be selected among the proposed candidates. It also reflects the Congress Party’s indecisiveness and inefficiency in zeroing on a fewer number of candidates for selecting the Lok Sabha candidates. With the tide appearing to favour the BJP, the Congress local units do not appear in the mood of annoying their workers and have left the inconvenient decision of selecting the candidates to the central committee.

One more highlighting factor in the list of 17 candidates proposed by the Jamnagar Congress Unit is the conspicuous absence of Hardik Patel from the list. Risen to fame by the Patidar agitation, Hardik Patel had recently joined Congress and expressed his desire to fight the upcoming Lok Sabha elections from Jamnagar constituency. However, with his name not on the list of the proposed candidates for the Jamnagar constituency, the Jamnagar Congress Unit has reposed little faith on him and summarily scorned his candidature.
