Fact Check: Did India lie about shooting down Pakistani F-16 fighter jet?

Pakistan has been denying India’s claim that Indian Air Force bombed terror camps in Pakistan on 26th February, and one F-16 jet of Pakistan was shot down by Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman before his MiG-21 was shot down inside Pakistan and he was captured. Indian opposition parties have chosen to believe the Pakistani version instead of what is said by Indian defence forces, and have been demanding proof of the strike from the government.

Joining the doubters, now journalist Saikat Datta has written an article claiming that there is no proof that India had shot down the Pakistan Air Force’s American fighter jet. In an article published on Asia Times, Datta uses social media claims and arguments made by Pakistani side to prove that no F-16 jet was shot down by Indian Air Force.

By making this claim, the author is levelling a very serious charge on the Indian defence forces of lying. The claim of F-16 being shot down was not made in a political rally, it was informed by the spokesperson of mthe inistry of external affairs. He had said that the Pakistani aircraft falling down on Pakistani side was seen by ground forces in India. After that, the same claim was reiterated in a joint conference of the three Armed Forces.

Pakistan even denied the use of F-16 in the attempt to bomb Indian military bases, but that has been already proven to be a lie after the discovery of missile fragments fired from F-16 jets. Datta’s article itself quotes a Pakistani official confirming the use of F-16 jets by Pakistan. In that scenario, the Pakistani claim that F-16 jet was not hit remains a doubt and their version can’t be taken seriously as truth.

One argument used in the article to prove that F-16 was not hit is the fact that there is no Wing Commander Shahaz-ud-Din in PAF who was rumoured to have died while flying the F-16. Doing a probe, Asia Times has found that there is no such pilot in Pakistan Air Force, hence the claim of F-16 being shot down is false, he writes.

But the fact is, govt of India or IAF never released any name of the pilot who was flying the F-16. It came from so-called defence expert Praveen Swami, and quickly it spread on Social Media. Swamy has a history of concocting stories on defence matters, therefore to use a claim made by him to prove government wrong is too much. Is there really a Pakistan Air Force pilot with that name, or someone created it out of thin air, that remains a matter of investigation, but that is no way a prove that F-16 was not shot down. Proving some random social media rumour as wrong is not the same as proving the main claim of government wrong.

Indian forces have so far provided two evidences about the Pakistani F-16. First, a part of wreckage claimed to be from MiG-21 was proved to be from F-16 engine, based on photographs of the wreckage published by Pakistan. Second, fragments of AIM-120 AMRAAM missile was found on Indian soil after Pakistan’s attempt to bomb Indian military bases, and this missile can be carried only by the F-16.

Moreover, there are several evidences that two fighter jets were hit on that day, not just the Indian MiG-21. Initially, Pakistan government itself had claimed that they had shot down two Indian fighter jets and captured two Indian pilots, which points to the strong possibility that Pakistani ground forces saw two jets falling and two parachutes coming down, and due to that, the Pakistani authorities had assumed both to be Indian jets.

The initial reports publishing the photos of the wreckages of the planes states that the photos belong to two aircraft that fell inside Pakistan. While MiG-21 was misidentified as MiG-27 in early reports, the other one was not identified, possibly because F-16 was broken into pieces after hit by the R-73 missile fired by Wing Commander Abhinandan.

The moment of pilots descending using parachutes after ejecting from their destroyed jets was video recorded by people in Pakistan on their phones. In the videos shared on Youtube, it can be heard that people recording the incident are talking about two parachutes coming down. Close examination of the video embedded below also show two parachutes coming down, both at different distances from the camera.

Here is another video shot from a different place, and here also two pilots descending with parachutes can be seen. People are talking about two pilots in this video also.

These videos shot by Pakistani citizens clearly show that two pilots had come down after ejecting from their aircrafts on that day. The MiG-21 Bison used by IAF is a single seater aircraft, and now it is known that only one Indian pilot had landed in Pakistan who was captured by the Pakistani military. This leaves only one possibility, that the other pilot seen in the videos has to be from the Pakistani Air Force.

The Asia Times article also talks absence about audio, video and electronic evidence of the F-16 being engaged by the MiG-21. But the fact is, it has already been reported that Abhinandan had sent the audio message “R-73 is selected” seconds before he was shot down, indicating that he was using the Vympel R-73 air to air missile to shoot down an enemy aircraft. If he had no target in sight and locked by the targeting system of the MiG-21, there was no reason for him to fire a missile on Pakistani airspace.

The event of firing the missile will be recorded by on board computers of the MiG-21, but it is with Pakistanis now, so that data can’t be obtained. The article talks about providing other electronic data as proof, like data from the Airborne Early Warning System aircraft and Radar systems, but such kind of data is highly confidential in nature and the security forces may not want to disclose such data to satisfy few who do not believe the government. Such data may give a glimpse of abilities of India’s defence systems and that may not be desirable.

Pakistan is not known to accept losses incurred by in battles. It even denied the involvement of the Pakistani military in the Kargil war for a long time. Therefore, it is natural that they will hide the loss of an aircraft in combat in their territory. But to use those claims to accuse Indian defence forces of lying is highly unacceptable. There may not be concrete proof that the F-16 was shot down till now, but similarly, there is concrete proof to claim that India is lying. But whatever evidence is present at present points towards the possibility that Pakistan did lose a fighter aircraft on that day, and most probably that aircraft was an F-16.

Modi is winning the narrative, but is that making the arithmetic harder?

The baseline of the 2019 election is quite simple :

(1) There is no doubt that BJP and Modi are by far the No. 1 choice of the country.

That’s one of the constant factors. But there is a second constant factor:

(2) No party can seriously hope to get 50% votes… or for that matter … get >50% vote in 200+ seats.

So, can Modi be defeated? Of course. Even Nehru would have lost the 1952 election if the opposition had united against him. In fact, Nehru would have lost pretty badly. In 1952, Congress had a 45% vote. A united opposition would have swept the election, with a double-digit vote share lead of 10%!

So the only “variable factor” in this election is how far the opposition is willing to go to defeat Narendra Modi.

This variable factor depends obviously on the opposition’s perception of who is winning the election. Ironically, this means that “highs” for PM Modi in some way increase the risk of him losing in 2019.

In December, the opposition was all over the place. The cocky Congress, with 3 newly won states, appeared to be on a rampage. They were reading two hung assemblies in Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh as a huge positive vote for their prince Rahul Gandhi. The enthused Congress even began chasing a mirage in Uttar Pradesh, injecting Priyanka Gandhi into the campaign, thinking that this might be the India of 1975.

One might just laugh at this.

Despite the December low and perhaps because of it, BJP’s chances were going up. The party took some measures to mollify core middle class voters by raising the Income Tax exemption to 5 lakh, brought in reservation for “economically weaker sections” and a cash handout for marginal farmers.

PM Modi remains incredibly popular. Nobody thinks his government is corrupt. Most people appreciate his vision and his work on addressing core issues: such as electricity, gas and toilets for all. And the scale on which he has pulled off these quantum improvements. The only challenge was addressing a strange, almost irrational feeling of “what have I really got?” You can’t assuage these feelings by reeling off data about numbers of gas or electricity connections or roads built, etc. It comes from lingering insecurity that followed the high expectations of 2014….everyone wants to believe PM Modi is thinking about them personally.

That’s why the income tax exemption limit was so important. And so was the reservation for economically weaker sections. And the Kisan Samman Nidhi for marginal farmers. It was a reminder from Delhi that their favourite leader is thinking about them.

The opposition was mostly blind to these shifting sands. They were still on a high from December, the first time Congress had actually beaten BJP in an election since May 2013.

The BJP, meanwhile, was getting ready to sweep Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra. With Cong left out of the BSP-SP tie-up in Uttar Pradesh, the BJP was again in the hunt for 40 seats from UP. The state of Bihar was already in the bag anyway. The BJP was escalating massively in Bengal and Odisha.

Then the terrorist attack in Pulwama happened. Then the revenge air strike in Balakote. Then Abhinandan brought back within 24 hours. As Air Force Chief Dhanoa said yesterday, operations are still “ongoing”.

Modi’s face is everywhere. Nobody is even talking about the opposition. They have no narrative, nothing to tell the voter.

“Vote for Congress because PM Modi is not perfect” is not an election-winning slogan. Neither is “Vote for Congress because Pakistan PM likes us”. Nor is “Let’s go back to things as they were because the last five years fell a bit short of your highest expectations.”

I think the election is set to be announced in 4-5 days. Voting may start in a little over 30 days. No time for the opposition to create a narrative now.

The problem for PM Modi now is that a dejected opposition has gone back to working with calculators instead of people.

Today we hear that AAP and Congress are very close to striking a 3:3:1 deal in Delhi. This could easily mean 7 seats subtracted from the BJP tally. If Congress joins the alliance in Uttar Pradesh, that’s BJP down by another 20 seats.

This puts even more pressure on the BJP’s “greenfield states” like West Bengal and Odisha.  I do not believe the BJP leadership is overconfident. They have lived through 2004. Getting Jay Panda on board yesterday was a good acquisition. The man has been stalling for a long time. The fact that he finally boarded the BJP ship yesterday shows that fence sitters sense a clear pro-Modi mood.

But as the BJP’s graph rises and so does the desperation on the other side, watch out. Desperate people do desperate things. And these things sometimes do work.

The question is whether BJP’s graph is rising faster than the opposition’s desperation?

Even after four meetings, JD(S)-Congress yet to reach into agreement over seat sharing for 2019 general elections

The coordination committee of Congress and JD(S) has failed to reach an agreement on seat-sharing for 2019 Lok Sabha election even in the fourth meeting convened on Monday. The reluctance on the number of seats to be shared with each other is the main of point contention for both parties.

According to reports, the meeting was attended by former Congress Chief Minister Kumaraswamy, Former CM and coalition coordination chairman Siddaramaiah and national general secretary of JD(S) Danish Ali, along with other leaders. The meeting lasted for 45 minutes.

In the meeting, JD(S) demanded 12 seats from the coalition including Tumakuru and Chikkaballapur seat, which currently have Congress MPs. Other than this CM Kumaraswamy wants Mandya Lok Sabha seat, considered bastion by party, for his son Nikhil Kumaraswamy, as per reports, along with Hassan.

On the other hand, the Congress party does not want to give its alliance partner more than 9 seats, as JD(S) is only believed to have influence in South Karnataka districts, which have huge Vokkaliga community presence.

The deadlock is scheduled to be discussed in the next meeting, in the coming week. Subsequently, the listings of both the parties are expected to be presented to Congress President Rahul Gandhi and JD(S) supremo HD Devegowda. A meeting between both leaders is also expected.

“While we are offering nine seats to the JDS, they want 12, including some of them, won by the Congress in the 2014 LS poll.  There is also a demand within the party for both Mandya and Hassan seats. Since there is much to discuss another meeting will take place this week and all confusion sorted out.” Siddaramaiah was quoted by reports. He also assured that the seat-sharing agreement will be reached by 10th March.

This is not the first time that JD(S) and Congress are trying to maintain the coalition they had forged after the last assembly elections had thrown a hung house. In December, last year, JD(S) supremo Deve Gowda had warned Congress that, if JD(S) does not get its desired number of seats, they will consider going solo in the 2019 general elections.

Curious case of high profile Pakistani terrorists and ‘kidney ailments’ during times of international pressure

Wanted terrorist Masood Azhar was recently reported to be in poor health. The reports came at a time when Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that the Jaish-e-Muhammad chief is “really unwell”. According to reports, he was suffering from certain kidney issues and undergoes dialysis regularly at an army hospital Rawalpindi.

Then, reports started doing the rounds that Masood Azhar had died as a consequence of his illness. No confirmation of Masood Azhar’s death had been put forward by anyone. Few days after the reports surfaced, Fayyaz ul Hassan Chohan, the culture and information minister of Pakistan’s Punjab, confirmed that he is indeed alive.

As it so happens, wanted terrorists in Pakistan to have a tendency to develop kidney ailments almost miraculously whenever international pressure is mounting on them to crack down on terrorism within its territory.

Even in 2002, in the aftermath of the 9/11 Terror Attack, the then president of Pakistan, General Pervez Musharraf, had said that Osama bin Laden was likely dead by then as a consequence of kidney ailments. “I think now, frankly, he is dead, for the reason he is a patient, a kidney patient,” Musharraf had told CNN.

Of course, 9 years later, Laden was killed by an American special operations unit in a fortified private residential compound which was located less than a mile from the Pakistani Military Academy in Abbottabad and less than 100 kilometres from its capital.

Just like in 2002, when the USA was hot in the heels of Osama to bring him to justice for murdering thousands of Americans, international pressure has been mounting on Pakistan to crack down on terror as India seeks to bring Masood Azhar to justice. Under such circumstances, any unconfirmed reports of high profile terrorists’ death in Pakistan or their supposed sickness must be taken with a pinch of salt.

Pakistan nurtures terrorists in its soil as an instrument of its foreign policy whereby it wages proxy wars against its neighbours. Currently, India is piling on the pressure. Therefore, Pakistan may well be planting false reports of their death or illness to take attention off them for a while until the climate is relatively safer for them to reemerge.

Delhi Police registers case against pro-AAP blogger associated with Dhruv Rathee for spreading fake audio clip on Pulwama attack

The Delhi Police has registered a case against pro AAP video blogger Avi Dandiya, who is close to YouTuber Dhruv Rathee, for publishing fake audio about Pakistan sponsored Pulwama terror attack claiming to be the audio of Union Minister Rajnath Singh, reports ANI.

According to the reports, the Delhi police has registered an FIR against Pro-AAP blogger Avi Dandiya under IPC section 465 and 469 after he had published a fake video claiming it to be a conversation between Home Minister Rajnath Singh, BJP President Amit Shah and an unidentified woman. In the video, it could be heard that three people discussing a ‘plot’ for the terror attack which claimed the lives of 44 CRPF soldiers on February 14.

Avi Dandiya, who often associates with another pro-AAP blogger and fake news propagandist Dhruv Rathee, was caught spreading a fake audio clip on Pulwama attack, claiming that the Pulwama attack was an inside job. The video, which is deleted now, was with over a million and was also picked up by various Pakistani websites to use against India.

Shockingly, Avi Dandhiya had carried out a poll on Twitter just before he released the fake audio clip, asking his followers whether Pulwama attack was an inside job or an ‘outside job’.

The audio clip was created by taking parts of old interviews/audio clips of politicians and using them out of context to make it appear like a conversation.

Dandiya had also been mainstreamed by pro-AAP video blogger Dhruv Rathee who invited him on a debate on demonetisation. Dandiya regularly collaborates with Rathee to spread propaganda through videos.

Journalist Nikhil Wagle tried to praise Indira Gandhi, only to know she was a hypocrite

The liberal version of Indian history mandates that the Nehru-Gandhi parivar can do no wrong. The Parivar and the Congress party are glorified beyond all measure and paraded as paragons of virtue while any party that’s remotely sympathetic to Hindus is demonized.

On Tuesday, ‘liberal’ propagandist Nikhil Wagle claimed on Twitter that Indira Gandhi had specifically lifted the censorship on R.K. Laxman’s cartoons during the Emergency. He then asked others how Prime Minister Modi reacts to cartoons.

Cartoonist Manjul had to inform Wagle that Indira Gandhi had, in fact, not lifted the censorship on Laxman’s cartoons and the latter had to leave the country during the Emergency. He ultimately returned when elections were announced. And no cartoons were published during the Emergency. Invariably, while trying to praise Indira Gandhi for appreciating humour, he exposed that Indira Gandhi herself was a hypocrite who cracked down on freedom of expression when it did not suit the political climate.

Initially, Wagle tried to stick to his narrative but appeared to concede the point only when he realized that there was space available for manoeuvres.

Incidentally, Wagle is the same person who had claimed earlier that Prime Minister Modi is the ‘worst human being’ among the Prime Ministers he had seen in his lifetime.

Ever since Narendra Modi took office, there has been a concerted attempt to portray his government as intolerant towards criticism and freedom of expression. As it turns out, the most hue and cry is raised by the same people who spent the entirety of their time criticizing the Prime Minister without any apparent consequences.

In this particular instance, Wagle tried to pompously demonstrate that Narendra Modi is intolerant towards mockery while Indira Gandhi was ever willing to tolerate humour at her expense. As it turns out, Wagle’s little stunt failed spectacularly. It only demonstrated the extremely little knowledge that liberals have about the true nature of their heroes. We have documented Indira Gandhi’s long tryst with freedom in this comprehensive article.

The Nehru-Gandhi parivar, of course, has a glorious history of curbing freedom of expression. Poet and lyricist Majrooh Sultanpuri was jailed for two years for writing a poem calling Jawaharlal Nehru ‘Hitler’. Rajiv Gandhi, for his part, brought the Indian Post Office Amendment Bill (1986) which gave the government sweeping censuring rights, allowing it to read and interrupt the letters between any two private individuals.

Then, during Manmohan Singh’s tenure as the Prime Minister when actual control lied with Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul Gandhi, the draconian Section 66A was passed without any debate, another gross attempt at censorship. The act was, in fact, scrapped during the tenure of the current government and was welcomed by it.

Contrast this with the current ruling dispensation where journalists who expressed glee at the prospect of Prime Minister Modi suffering from swine flu get invited to events organized by his own government.

In the ‘liberal’ world, feelings of ‘intellectuals’ among those opposed to Narendra Modi matter more than facts. Therefore, even though Wagle’s lies were strongly rebuffed in this particular instance, it would not change his opinion of Narendra Modi or even Indira Gandhi, for that matter. Indira Gandhi here was being hailed as the paragon of leadership. Waghle tried to show that while Modi is a “fascist”, Indira appreciated humour directed at herself. While this sychophancy itself exposed that Indira Gandhi was a hypocrite when it came to FoE, Waghle is not likely to change his opinion of Gandhi. The narrative has already been decided, if facts do not conform to the desired narrative, then they must be ignored.

Taiwan dismisses Pakistan’s claims of US missile in F16 coming from their inventory

Debunking Pakistan’s allegations, Taiwan asserted that it has not transferred any US-built missiles to India. The Pakistani media had alleged that the wreckage of the missile in possession with the Indian Armed Forces which was shot by Pakistani F-16s is actually a missile sold to them by Taiwan.

However, as per reports, Taiwan’s Air Force has confirmed that the identification numbers of missile used by the F-16 and ones owned by them did not match. The Air Force of Taiwan ran immediate checks and ascertained that the identification number of the missile reported by the Pakistan Daily did not match any of its missiles, and were not compatible with any of its weapons systems.

The Express Tribune had reported that the remains of a missile in possession of the Indian government could have come from a missile sold by the U.S. to Taiwan. The report also claimed to have tracked the identification numbers of missile AIM-120C-5 AMRAAM, to a U.S. Department of Defense list naming the missile as part of a USD 2.38-million arms deal with Taiwan. Their lies were soon busted.

Taiwan has rubbished the claims made by the Pakistan Daily and asserted that the kind of weapons and missiles supplied by the US were for its self-defense and not for sale to other countries.

Media reports from Taiwan have also reportedly stated that the contract number FA8675-05-C-0070 on the AMRAAM part which was presented on Thursday by the Joint Forces officials in India was of the sale of the aircraft to Pakistan by the United States.

The US has sought more information from Pakistan about the use of its fighter aircraft F-16s against India. The issue is of significant importance to the US as according to the end-user agreement signed between the US and Pakistan, F-16s can be used to destroy terror camps, not against other countries.

Pakistan is insistent on its claim that it had not used US-built F-16s in the dogfight with the IAF which resulted in the capture of Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman. The Indian government claims that the seizure of the remains of the air-to-air AMRAAM missile suggest otherwise as it is only carried by F-16s in Pakistan’s combat fleet.

ED tracks Christian Michel’s money trail, leads them straight to Kamal Nath’s brother-in-law’s company

The AgustaWestland chopper scam’s story has been unfolding at a fast pace. Michel had made some startling revelations about one ‘Mrs Gandhi’, ‘Italian Lady’s son, R’ and the inside information he could gather from sources like the PMO and the investigative agencies. Now it appears that there is a new entrant in the AgustaWestland scam. Reportedly, ED tracked down the money trail of kickbacks received by Christian Michel and it has led them to Moser Baer which is owned by Deepak Puri, who is close to senior Congress leader Kamal Nath.

According to CNN News 18, a part of the kickbacks was routed through Moser Baer which is owned by Deepak Puri. Deepak Puri is the brother-in-law of senior Congress leader Kamal Nath. Puri is married to Nita Puri , sister of Senior Congress Leader and Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Mr Kamal Nath and have one son Ratul Puri. Both Nita and Ratul are part of Moser Baer.

The Directors of Moser Baer are both Nita Puri and Deepak Puri, the sister and brother-in-law of Kamal Nath.

Directors of Moser Baer

In his 2014 election affidavit, Kamal Nath had declared that he held 6450 shares in Moser Baer of Rs 10 market value each.

In fact, in 2017, Moser Baer had shut its plan and laid off over 2000 employees, allegedly, without clearing their dues. A portal called ‘Ten News’ had spoken to the staff of the plan who had directly named Puri and Kamal Nath. One had alleged that Kamal Nath, during UPA 1 had favoured Deepak Puri and the company now going under is the result of that.

In fact, Moser Baer Solar Limited had incurred a huge debt most of it while Kamal Nath was the commerce minister. Among the creditors are Punjab National Bank (Rs 401.65 crore), State Bank of India (Rs 276.87 crore), Central Bank of India (Rs 117.08 crore), Union Bank of India (Rs 77.69 crore), Indian Overseas Bank (Rs 223.02 crore), Exim Bank (Rs 228.20 crore), Bank of Baroda (Rs 69.24 crore) and Oriental Bank of Commerce (Rs 849.94 crore).

In the financial year 2013, Moser Baer Solar had sought restructuring of Rs 956 crore of debt but the recast failed.

The Directors of Moser Baer Solar also included Deepak Puri, Kamal Nath’s brother in law and Nita Puri, Kamal Nath’s sister.

Michel was extradited to India on 4 December from United Arab Emirates (UAE). Recently it was also unearthed that, Christian Michel’s involvement was not only restricted to AgustaWestland scam. He had also lobbied against France-based Rafale in order to enable Eurofighter, its rival, to grab the MMRCA deal. On 5th January, the Patiala House Court had extended Michel’s judicial custody till February 26.

Christian Michel, the middleman in the AgustaWestland VVIP Chopper scam, who was extradited from Dubai, has been spilling the beans and his correspondence from the time when this deal was in consideration has made some stunning revelations. Earlier, it was reported how Michel had access to Cabinet Meetings, Cabinet Committee on Security meetings and the then PMO under Manmohan Singh. It has now emerged that he also had access to investigative agencies, reported Economic Times.

Prime Minister Modi urges the Leuwa Patel community to come forward and support the farmers

Prime Minister Modi, while laying the foundation stone for the Annapurna Mata temple in Adalaj, Gujarat, urged the industrialists of the community to come forward and help the farmers getting better value for their produce.

“The world looks up to us. World’s tallest statue is that of Sardar Patel today. When AMUL began its white revolution, people from the Leuwa Patel community were the first to take the initiative and look at how it is successful. If 5-15 people from the community can take an initiative to build AMUL which has benefitted everyone, why can’t few take up an initiative to connect to farmers?” PM Modi said.

“If few industrialists here could set up food processing units to benefit farmers, imagine the infinite wealth it could create for them. Food processing and value addition increase the value of produce. Chillies from Shertha are popular, but the same chillies dried and turned red are even more valuable. Similarly, the value increases if the dried red chillies are turned into red chilli powder,” he said while urging the industrialist community to come forward to help the farmers and ease their distress.

Lauding the farmer community of Leuwa Patel, PM Modi said, “Jevo bhakt, eva bhagwan, jo bhakt pehelwan hoy, to bhagwan hanuman (God is as good as his devotees. If a devotee is a pehelwan, God would be Hanuman). If devotee worships knowledge, God would be Saraswati. If devotee worships wealth, God would be Lakshmi. In our society, the community that has done the most in terms of providing nourishment, it is the farmer community. And if you speak of a farmer in Kathiawar region, then that farmer is most likely a Leuwa Patel. Hence, they worship Annapurna Mata.”

‘Peacenik’ Imran Khan and his anti Hindu ministers: Ghazwa-e-Hind, Jihad against Hindus are the central theme in Pakistan’s politics

On February 28th, the Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan had announced that Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman will be released as a ‘peace gesture’. The Indian liberal ‘peacenik’ industry predictably saw a ‘hero’ in Imran Khan, who according to them had shown mercy to Indian Air Force pilot.

All the grandstanding and bravado over the ‘peace gesture’ claimed by both the Pakistani establishment and the Indian liberals was soon exposed to be a farce, as the inherent hatred of the Pakistani government ministers against Hindus and India is being gradually exposed.

The fervent anti-Indian or anti-Hindu narrative in Pakistan is not a new phenomenon. The idea of Pakistan was itself premised on the eternal hatred towards Hindus, however, it has grown gradually in the last few decades due to various politico-religious reasons. The Pakistani establishment aided by its ‘deep state’ often becomes very enthusiastic about ‘Ghazwa-e-Hind’, one of the lunacies peddled by radical Islamists to fool terror recruits into believing that killing Hindus and waging war against India is their religious duty.

In recent decades, as Pakistan’s socio-economic status kept declining among the countries who had also gained freedom or were formed around the same time, the Ghazwa-e-Hind narrative became another one of the easy tools for Pakistani politicians to justify their policies and hide their failures.

Even as Imran Khan has continued his hollow statements about peace and ‘talks’, many of his ministers have been betraying the real face of Pakistan’s politics where radicalism, hatred against Hindus and India is all they have to show for 70 years of their existence.

Journalist Swati Goel Sharma has listed some of the instances where ‘peace-loving’ Imran Khan’s ministers were found peddling rabid Hindu-hatred and propagating the ideas of India’s annihilation. As mentioned in an article in the Swarajya Magazine co-authored by Swati, the hatred against Hindus and India runs deep in many politicians currently holding power in Pakistan.

Shockingly, one of his ministers, Ali Muhammad Khan openly called ‘Ghazwa-e-Hind’, the last holy war against Hindus and India, by invoking Islamic invaders Muhammad bin Qasim and Mahmood of Ghazni. Ali Muhammad Khan, who is the Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs in Pakistan had claimed that Pakistanis were the descendants of Islamic invaders in India and had warned India of “Ghazwa-e-Hind”.

Fayaz-ul-Hasan Chohan, another minister in Imran Khan’s government, in a recent speech called Hindus as “cow urine drinkers”. Interestingly, the phrase ‘cow urine drinkers’ is commonly used to target Hindus not only by Islamists, terrorists but also it has become a ‘fanciful’ term for Indian liberals to either refer Hindus or anybody who is critical of them.

The term ‘cow urine drinkers’ was also used by Jaish terrorist Adil Ahmad Dar before he had hit the CRPF convoy in Pulwama. In a hurry to show their hatred towards Hindus and its culture, the Indian liberal cabal has often knowingly or unknowingly has played to the hands of the Islamists, which the latter has successfully utilised to create a divide in the Indian society as a part of achieving their objective of ‘Ghazwa-e-Hind’.

On 19 February, Pakistani railways minister Sheikh Rasheed had threatened Indians and the Hindus with a nuclear war and had claimed that no bells would sound in Indian temples. “If anyone will stare at Pakistan with an evil eye, his eye will be gouged out, and then no grass will grow, no birds will chirp, and no bells will sound in temples, as Pakistan is that bastion of Muslims that Muslims from the world over look up to,” said the senior minister in a video uploaded by him.

In fact, Rasheed had also opposed the release of Indian pilot Abhinandan Varthaman. He had appealed to every Muslim to join “Jihad”. “Doing Jihad is mandatory in Islam. If a Muslim does not do Jihad, he is no longer a Muslim,” he had said. In an earlier video, Rasheed had said that not only 22 crore Muslims but 30 crores Muslims on Indian side too would rise against Modi in the name of Islam.

Shahbaz Sharif, a younger brother of Nawaz Sharif, during his speech in a parliament session during the ongoing tension between India and Pakistan, had called Indian PM Narendra Modi as “terrorist” and claimed he had martyred thousands of Muslims in Gujarat. The rant against Hindus and Indians is not just limited to politicians but to the so-called intelligentsia of Pakistan, who are aroused lately to express their contempt towards the Hindus.

Orya Maqbool Jan, known to be an intellectual in Pakistan, while discussing the Pulwama terror attacks, claimed that Hindus were enemies of Muslims as it is described as such in the Islamic holy book of Quran and Hadith. Maqbool further said that the main issue is that confrontation between Hindus and Muslims is bound to happen. “It hasn’t happened until now, but when it shall happen, twenty-three crore Muslims will cease to be Indian nationals,” said Maqbool.

Hassan Nisar, another veteran journalist while speaking about the possibility of nuclear attacks had said that even if Pakistan is destroyed during a nuclear conflict, Muslims elsewhere in the world will survive but if India is attacked, Hindus will cease to exist. “It’s okay if you want to attack us. If you dream to turn the entire region into ash, then it’s fine. We have 50 (Islamic) countries in the name of God, but you don’t have an existence beyond yours,” he said.

Most importantly, Imran Khan, the flag-bearer of peace is no different. An anecdote of Former Indian High Commissioner to Pakistan and one of the most prominent diplomats of our times, G Parthasarathy gives an idea regarding the dubious nature of Pakistani PM Imran ‘Taliban’ Khan’s idea of peace towards India.

Parthasarathy had shared an incident, “This was in 1982. A friend of mine, a Pakistani cricket commentator called Chisti Mujahid, who is no longer alive, asked him, Imran, why is it when I saw you were bowling against England, it was okay, you were bowling well, but when it is against India it is fire and brimstone?’ Imran’s reply? “Well, when we play against India, I don’t see this game as cricket. I think of Kashmir, and regard it as a jihad.”

Imran Khan’s Taliban connections and open support for religious fanatics indulged in terrorist activities is an open secret. In their haste to discredit the Modi government and hail Imran Khan as the hero, even many of India’s liberals have been ignoring the fact that his government scrambled fighter jets to invade Indian airspace in defence of India’s strike against a terrorist camp.

Just the facts that the personalities discussed here are not fringe, but powerful Pakistani politicians and elite citizens give a glimpse of how ‘mainstream’ the ideas like ‘Ghazwa-e-Hind’ and ‘Jihad against Hindus’ are in our western neighbour.

As evident by these statements including by its own Prime Minister Imran Khan, the psyche of most of the Pakistani politicians and intelligentsia has always been to hate Hindus and Indians and pave way for ‘Ghazwa-e-Hind’. However, Indian liberals, who often uses similar derogatory phrases to target Hindus, has remained silent over Pakistan’s rhetoric of ‘Ghazwa-e-Hind’ and ‘Jihad’ against Hindus and Indians.

UPDATE: It has now emerged that Imran Khan, the Pakistan PM has sacked minister Fayyazul Hassan Chohan for his anti-Hindu rant.
