Congress MLA led Thakor Sena members arrested for violence against non-Gujaratis in Gujarat

Large-scale violence has erupted at several places in Gujarat following the alleged rape of a 14-month-old girl in the state. According to reports, the girl was raped on September 28 in a village near Himmatnagar town of Sabarkantha district in Gujarat. Residents of the village belong to the Thakor community. Following the incident, one Ravindra Sahu, a labourer from Bihar, was arrested on the same for the rape, according to the police. Sahu works in a local ceramic factory.

Following the arrest, attacks on people from Bihar and UP took place in several places in the state including Gandhinagar, Mehsana, Sabarkantha, Patan and Ahmedabad districts in the last one week. The attacks were instigated by hate messages against people from UP and Bihar being circulated on social media.

After it was known that the rape accused is from Bihar, the Kshatriya Thakor Sena demanded that migrant workers from other states should not be given jobs in Gujarat. A mob of around 200 people, allegedly led by Thakor Sena members, attacked a factory near Vadnagar town of Mehsana district on October 2 and thrashed two employees. Similar violence has happened against people from Bihar and UP in many places in the state, either led by Thakor Sena members or people belonging to Thakor Community.

To contain the violence, police has arrested around 170 people so far. Police security is also have been placed outside industrial units where migrants from other states work. According to Gandhinagar Range IG Mahendrasinh Chavda, till Friday evening 23 FIRs have been registered for rioting, damage to public and private property. Nearly 20 State Reserve Police (SRP) companies have been deployed for security in the affected districts.

Police said that most people being attacked are factory workers and street vendors. “They are being targeted by design. In industrial areas, the attacks have been reported when factories are about to open or close,” said a senior police officer. Handcarts selling panipuri and other street snacks by non-Gujaratis have been ransacked by attackers in several places.

Meanwhile, Congress MLA Alpesh Thakor, who is also president of the Thakor Sena, has claimed that members of his organisation are innocent and has demanded that all cases against them are withdrawn within 72 hours. He says that people from the community and members of Sena may be involved in violence but no instruction was given from Sena for any attack. He says that Sena is only targeting government and private companies for employing people from other states. Alpesh claims that the rule of 80 per cent local employment has not been followed by companies in the state.

But, it was Alpesh Thakor who first raised the issue of non-Gujaratis while demanding “justice” for the rape victim. He has demanded that the rape case should be tried in a fast track court and also demanded a compensation of Rs five lakhs to the rape survivor.

India defies US sanctions, will continue to import Iranian oil

0

According to a report published by the Economic Times, India is all set to continue importing oil from Iran despite the looming threat of US sanctions kicking in from November 4. State refiners Indian Oil Corp will import 6 million barrel and Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals will import 3 million barrels from the Persian state in November while India is zeroing in on an alternative payment channel, preferably rupee trade as dollar payment channels will be blocked as the sanctions come into force.

Apart from the several trade sanctions already imposed on Iran, the United States of America plans to impose oil-related sanctions from November with the hope of bringing the Persian state to negotiating table over its nuclear advancement and ballistic missile programme. Although, Iran says it has abided by the 2015 nuclear deal, which was struck with five other world powers, besides the United States.

Sources claim India and Iran are discussing reverting to rupee trade after the sanctions are kicked in.  A source said that Iran has been irregular in taking rupee payments for oil it sells. “This rupee it uses for paying for imports of medicines and other commodities. A similar arrangement is in works,” he added. UCO Bank and IDBI Bank have been identified to make the payments as the two banks have no exposure to the US financial market. Sources claim that this time around it is expected that 100% trade payment will be done in Rupees.

India is planning to import about 25 million tonnes of crude oil from Iran in the current fiscal, up from 22.6 million tonnes imported in 2017-18. But the actual volumes imported may be quite less as companies like Reliance Industries have totally stopped buying oil from Iran in a hope of winning a sanction waiver from the US.

As an attempt to lure India, The United States of America is now actively considering waivers and hoping to dissuade Indian government from buying Iranian oil. The US official said that it was a first time that the US government is in the process of considering waivers. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said in India last month that some buyers of Iranian oil would take a “little bit of time” to unwind their trade with Iran and their administration are weighing the proposition of waivers on embargo but warned that it will be time-bound.

Coming on the heels of India’s procurement of S-400 Triumf Air Defence System from Russia despite strong reservations raised by the USA, in the diplomatic circles, it is considered as an audacious move by India, defying the US yet again and continuing their trade with the ostracized nation. Of-late India has shown the strength and appetite to go against powerful nations to pursue her interests. The age-old adage of “Nation-states are driven by their self-interests” is truly manifested in letter and spirit by India in the last few months when it stood up against the irredentist claims made by bullying China in Doklam and recently, when it refused to cower down by the USA over signing the deal for S-400 Triumf with Russia.

Large scale arms smuggling network busted in Bihar, police recovering AK-47s from village wells and riverbeds

0

Busting an arms smuggling racket, the Bihar Police has, so far, recovered several AK-47 rifles and hundreds of spare parts stashed away in wells, river beds and abandoned houses across the state in the last few days. The rifles were smuggled to Bihar’s Munger district. Meanwhile, the number of deaths attributed to these smuggled weapons are rising alarmingly.

Munger is infamous for being a hotbed for smuggled weapons and a hub of illegal manufacturing of high-quality advanced arms and ammunition for the last several decades. Police began search operation on Saturday, September 29 in various parts of Munger and recovered 281 spare parts of AK-47 assault rifles from the waters of river Ganga. Police found additional 91 spare parts of the assault rifle from one of the houses of one person named Manzar in Wardha village on October 2, 2018.

A report in The Times Of India states that since the 1990s, criminals and thugs in this area have been successful in laying their hands on assault rifles when a large number of them were dropped by a Latvian aircraft in the neighbouring district Purulia in West Bengal in 1995. A good number of weapons were believed to have been smuggled into Bihar at that time too. In 2012, several weapons from the central ordnance depot (COD) in Jabalpur were stolen. Recently, the stolen weapons are being discovered.

An interstate arms smuggling racket was busted in September in which seven people were arrested. One of the arrested, former army man Purushottam Razak, revealed that at least 63 AK 47s have been smuggled out of Jabalpur’s ordnance depot to Bihar since 2012. Old weapons were reportedly being stolen from the COD and were being sold in the black market to criminal gangs. Former Muzaffarpur mayor Samir Khan and his driver were shot dead using an AK-47 in September this year. RJD leader Dina Gope was assassinated on May 12 in Patna by a gun of the same make.

These smuggled rifles are sold at Rs 6-8 lakh per piece. An IPS officer involved in the investigation stated, “We suspect the weapons smuggled out of Madhya Pradesh are sold in other states as well. Bihar has a good market for smuggled arms and Munger is its base.”

What has taken the police by surprise is that all the AK-47s recovered from Munger were all made in the Central Ordnance Depot in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh. Four people – Mohammad Taufir, Mohammad Irfan, Shamsher Alam and Rizwan have been arrested and combing operations in their village Mirzapur Bardah and adjoining villages are underway, looking for the missing cache and additional smuggled weapons.

The police have stated that arrests regarding the stolen cache of weapons have happened in Bengal too. Before the racket was busted recently, the police had information about AK-47 and AK-56 rifles finding their way into Bihar through insurgency-ridden north-eastern states.

Many atheists suffer from superiority complex, here is a reality check

In the 21st Century, with the advent of ‘New Atheists’ such as Christopher Hitchens and Richard Dawkins, atheism has witnessed a profound surge in popularity. Atheism has come to be regarded as extremely ‘cool’ among the millennial youth and religion, by and large, has acquired the reputation of being an obsolete relic from a by-gone era that is increasingly embracing the use of violence to maintain its relevance in a world that it does not recognize.

A trend has emerged where religious people are branded as fools by virtue of their faith and atheism has come to be regarded as the default position that one ought to endorse to be regarded as a credible intellectual worthy of admiration. It is rather unsurprising that atheists worldwide tend to align themselves with the Left of the political spectrum and often malign conservatives and misrepresent the conservative position on issues to come across as intellectually superior in a debate. Therefore, it is the time that we carefully investigate the modern atheist position and evaluate their claims for ourselves and check whether they are truly as close to reality as they claim them to be.

Modern atheists often claim that the world will be better off without the concept of God. However, there is no evidence for such a claim. The 20th century was the biggest refutation of such an assertion. Soviet Russia and Communist who slaughtered over 50 million people combined were atheistic regimes. While it is true that the regimes did not slaughter people to further the cause of atheism, the fact remains that absence of religion and Gods did not lead to a better society by default, it led to two of the biggest genocides in human history. And even today, the country that commits the greatest number of human rights violations, China, has a government set up that is atheistic in nature. Therefore, the assertion that negation of the concept of God will automatically lead to a more humane society does not have any basis in truth.

Atheists often claim that the most prosperous countries in the world today are those which have a large number of atheists. They cite the example of Western European countries and the USA as evidence of their claim. However, they conveniently ignore the fact that the foundations for the developed and prosperous Western Europe and the United States were laid when they were overwhelmingly Christian countries. And it is very dishonest of them to claim that atheism has been good for Western Europe. The countries in the region are now in turmoil and undergoing a massive demographic shift and internal conflict looks imminent in many of the regions with Islamic fundamentalism rapidly on the rise. And as for the US of A, the most powerful country in the world continues to have a rich tradition of Conservatism which has been undermined largely over the course of the past couple of decades and the country is more divided now than it has ever been in a century.

Atheists are inclined to claim that it is only theists who are in denial of science and that atheists are more rational than the theists. Of course, it is not as simple as the atheists make it out to be. The greatest attack on Science in the 21st Century have been made primarily by atheists. The Universities have been captured by postmodernists, who are overwhelmingly atheists, which are now organized in establishing banal propaganda as objective scientific truth. Evidence for claims such as “Gender is a social construct” or that “There are an infinite number of Genders” exists only in the gobbledygook of unscientific postmodernist literature and yet, these atheists want everyone to treat these fantasies as objective truth and want laws to be framed on the basis of such assertions.

The atheists also appear to suffer from the delusion that they cannot be religious. A careful examination of the conduct and mannerisms of modern-day atheists reveals that a majority of them are just as religious as the theists they denounce. The Progressives, a significant portion of whom are atheists and it could be argued that it’s a movement that is primarily driven by atheists, have an organized ideology which has uncanny resemblances to the orthodox religions they denounce.

They have their own clergy, that is, the Professors and the Media and the Hollywood celebrities, they have a ‘Great Other’ that they claim must be eliminated for the golden utopia of humanity to dawn, that is ‘Toxic Masculinity’ and ‘Patriarchy’ and ‘Traditions’ in general. They have their own peculiar rituals which often involve the public shaming and punishment of heretics, such as the attack on James Damore which eventually led to his dismissal from Google for a memo in which he had made factual arguments.

Like the clergy of the Catholic Church, even their clergy is regularly found to be involved in perverse activities which they claim to be fighting against. The only difference is that Progressives have replaced the concept of God with the deification of the ‘Self’. Therefore, if a person claims he is a woman despite having the biological anatomy of a male, then society must treat the words of the individual as gospel truth. The reason why we do not interpret Progressivism or Liberalism as religions is perhaps because we presume that the God-concept is integral for an ideology to be considered a religion. But it should be considered that for polytheists, the concept of a religion based on devotion towards a single god would have been equally bewildering as the concept of a religion without the concept of a god at all appears to us now. Atheists may find it difficult to accept but they are indeed just as religious as the theists they denounce. The only difference is, theists, hold sacred metaphysical beings and their diktats while the former indulge in the deification of the self.

The fundamental problem with the whole charade of putting atheism on a pedestal is that the answer to a single question cannot be the basis for a moral order. Therefore, when atheists claim that people are not being killed for the sake of atheism, they are being incredibly obtuse without realizing. People murder in the name of Allah or God because those entities represent a particular moral order and there are texts which promise rewards for engaging in such violence. And the authority of those texts flows from the God-head. Terrorists murder those they perceive as heretics because Allah or God sanction the act of committing murder of heretics as morally righteous. Atheism does not have the capability to inspire large-scale organized violence like certain religions do because such violence can only be inspired by a moral order, which religions are and atheism is not. Thus, you can have communism, which is atheistic in nature, perpetuate genocides but atheism is insufficient in and of itself to inspire any such actions. But atheism may pave the way for morbid ideologies to take root. For instance, Marx’s communism was firmly dependent on a materialistic interpretation of the world and atheism is fundamental to materialism. Thus, in many ways, communism is a morbid manifestation of an interpretation of the world based on atheism.

The positivist interpretation of history claims that humanity moved from animism to polytheism to monotheism and thus will eventually progress to atheism. However, the road from animism to monotheism wasn’t as simple as positivism assumes it to be, nor was the emergence of monotheism as the primary belief system in the world a foregone conclusion. There were moments in history when the pendulum could have swung either way and it was a series of coincidences and victories in certain wars that turned the pendulum in monotheism’s favour. Positivism assumes an inherent superiority of monotheism over polytheism and atheism over monotheism, however, these are ridiculous assumptions and after two thousand years of savagery inspired by the monotheism, attempts are being made to create an environment where all Gods are respected by every community which is an essential aspect of polytheism.

Steven Weinberg, the great American physicist and a Nobel laureate, once remarked, “With or without religion, good people can behave well and bad people can do evil, but for good people to do evil – that takes religion.” Since then, the quote has been canonized by atheists. However, there are intrinsic contradictions within the statement. For instance, if a person commits a horrible act of pure evil, can he still be called a good person? Because as we are well aware, acts of evil are not born in a vacuum, it takes long hours of contemplation and planning and then comes the part where he acts it out. If a person does not realize that his actions are evil while he is contemplating and planning the event, is he a ‘good’ person? If a person does not realize that flying planes into the World Trade Center is wrong, is he a good person? If a person does not realize that running people over with his car is evil, is he a good person? Perhaps, what Weinberg means is it takes religion to make a person with good intentions commit acts which are unspeakably evil. But even then, he is off the mark. It is often said, the path to hell is paved with good intentions. A person with good intentions can very much embrace evil if he believes humanity will profit from his actions after it’s all over. Such quotes which have been canonized by atheists reflect a poor understanding of the ambiguous nature of good and evil and a lack of philosophical depth.

Modern atheism is very much based on the principles of Abrahamic monotheism. And as some philosophers argue, monotheism is atheism at its very core as they deny the existence of all Gods barring their own. The concept of the denial of the existence of certain Gods according to one’s own convenience arose with monotheism itself. Before the advent of monotheism, there was no such concept. Atheists certainly deal in absolutes. They fail to appreciate that some religions are better than others. Due to the veil over their eyes, they indulge in a sweeping condemnation of all religions without taking the time to study the philosophical differences between the major religions of the world and the foundations that they are built upon.

Despite what atheists might suggest, religion has been immensely beneficial for humanity. As Jonathan Haidt, social psychologist and author of ‘The Righteous Mind’, says, “The very ritual practices that the New Atheists dismiss as costly, inefficient and irrational turn out to be a solution to one of the hardest problems humans face: cooperation without kinship.” He further says, “Groups create supernatural beings not to explain the universe but to order their societies.” Indeed, if there’s a single lesson that the 21st century has taught us, it’s that absence of religion does not directly translate into a better world.

USA names Khalistani group, Babbar Khalsa as a security threat along with Lashkar-e-Taiba

0

In a big blow to Khalistan movement, US President Donald Trump’s administration has declared Babbar Khalsa, the Sikh terror group as a threat to American interests. The decision of the US authorities comes as Babbar Khalsa in the past had direct involvement in bombings and assassinations against major social, economic and political targets.

The National Strategy for Counterterrorism unveiled by the Trump administration in Washington on Thursday said that Babbar Khalsa International “is responsible for significant terrorist attacks in India and elsewhere that have claimed the lives of innocent civilians”.

Babbar Khalsa intends to create an independent Sikh state in India through violent means and is responsible for several terror attacks in the country resulting in many civilian deaths. Apart from naming Babbar Khalsa, the document also lists Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) among organisations that are a potential threat to the US.

According to reports, the Indian government was putting pressure on US authorities regarding the issue of separatist Sikhs. India had raised the issue with the Trump administration regarding Sikh militants using the United States as a platform to gain global. The US decision comes as Babbar Khalsa has been banned in several countries including the US, Canada and India as a national security threat despite having less support base in these countries.

The White House in its strategy paper said there is a broad range of revolutionary, nationalist, and separatist movements across the world whose use of violence and intent to destabilise societies will put American lives at risk.

“Such groups may avoid or deprioritise targeting United States interests, for now, to avoid detracting from their core goals but frequently conduct assassinations and bombings against major economic, political, and social targets, heightening the risk to the United States personnel and interests overseas,” the paper said.

Babbar Khalsa International was founded by a Canadian citizen Talwinder Singh Parmar in 1978 and was then based in Vancouver. It operates in Canada, Germany, the United Kingdon and some parts of India. Its headquarters is set up in Lahore and works on the behest Pakistan’s intelligence ISI. It is officially banned and designated as an international terrorist organisation by the US, Canada, UK, EU, Japan and India. It has been linked to the bombing of Air India Flight 182 in 1981 that killed 329 people on the Emperor Kanishka, a Boeing 747 airliner.

Hindus need to be saved now, a Nobel Prize when they are gone is worthless

It is a wonderful, wonderful thing that the Nobel Peace Prize this year has gone to Nadia Murad. She had been taken as a slave by Islamists the day they raided her village in Sinjar in Northern Iraq and massacred 600 Yazidis.  Her story is as shocking as it is eventually uplifting, a triumph of the human spirit over absolute evil in the face of impossible odds.

Nadia Murad is a hero. The world is celebrating her.

But even as the media gushed yesterday telling us the story of Nadia’s life, I couldn’t help but wonder: how does it all matter? Does a Nobel Prize to one Nadia Murad compensate for everything that happened to the Yazidis who perished under the Islamic state? What was the world doing to fight Islamism at the time and what has the world done since that day to fight Islamism?

My concerns were backed up by worries of my own, about Hindus of India, especially those of Assam, Bengal and certain other parts of Western Uttar Pradesh.

The Hindus and Sikhs of Pakistan were tormented until almost all of them converted, fled or were killed. They say that there will not be a single Hindu left in Bangladesh in 30 years. Inside the Republic of India, the Hindus of Kashmir have lost their homes to Islamism already.

Does anyone really believe that one day Hindus will be able to return to Kashmir? The question is: who is next?

So, I couldn’t help wondering: does it really matter if 50 years from now they give a Nobel Peace Prize to the last surviving Hindu from Assam or Bengal or Kashmir? What are we doing to ensure that they can live a life of dignity today?

By throwing at us a whole bunch of Nehruvian nonsense, Indian liberals have always sought to discredit the yearning for a Hindu state. But the need for a Hindu nation is very real. Like the Jews, Hindus have been oppressed and humiliated for centuries. This led to the rise of Zionism, the desire to have one country where Jews would always be safe knowing that they are a majority. The Zionists had no desire to build some kind of Caliphate and rule over the world. They just wanted one piece of land, just one country where they could live with dignity.

After 1000 years of oppression and after the partition of India on religious lines, we Hindus have every right to have a Hindu state. One country where we know Hindus would always be safe. It’s a legitimate demand and in many ways a basic need for survival. Don’t let any ‘liberal’ tell you otherwise.

Now, the idea of a ‘Hindu nation’ has been so systematically maligned for 70 years across all levels of media, academia and intelligentsia that one needs to explain what a Hindu nation is not. A Hindu nation doesn’t mean trampling on the rights of those who do not consider themselves to be Hindus. Nor does it mean a repudiation of that much-abused word in Indian politics: secularism.

Again, Israel is the best example. The State of Israel is by far the most democratic and secular in the Middle East, an open society with high level of gender equality, not just tolerant but accepting and welcoming towards homosexuals, as well as a global leader in science and technology. Don’t forget that almost 20% of Israel’s population is that of Arab Muslims, who have exactly the same rights in Israel like everyone else. Ironically, Arab Muslims living in Israel can vote, can enjoy the freedom of speech, expression and religion, something that they can’t do anywhere else in that part of the world.

What a Hindu nation means is that we protect our culture, our history and our democratic and secular values against all aggressors, both internal and external.

Examples of external aggression would be illegal immigration from Bangladesh (and recently of Rohingya Muslims from Myanmar) or foreign-sponsored missionary mafia attempting mass conversions.

Examples of internal aggression would be what happened to the Hindus of Kashmir. Or Naxals who seek to destroy our Republic and impose Mao’s Communist ideology.

Internal aggression also includes systematic attempts to malign Hindu beliefs and traditions in the eyes of the world, creating imaginary divisions within the Hindu fold, deliberate falsification of our history as well as overruling basic property rights of Hindus through a perverted reading of the secular law.

For example, a highly reputed international magazine recently published an article claiming that the Amarnath Yatra is a form of “weaponization” by the Hindus against Muslims of the Kashmir valley! This is nothing but a canard against Hindus. Efforts to smear the sacred “Om” symbol by morphing it into a Nazi hooked cross, creating global paranoia around an image of Hanuman, etc, are all examples of such internal aggression.

A Hindu nation would invest in a robust intellectual majority to resist such attempts to malign our culture in the eyes of the world. And yes, a Hindu nation would have a temple at Ram Janmabhoomi. A real temple, not one that is under the control of the government.

Far from being a Hindu nation, we Hindus today are in such a sorry state that we have to beg for equal citizenship rights. Such as the right to keep our temples and schools from being surrounded, seized and taken over by the government. And not enough Hindus care about that either.

We would all love to live in a Utopia where everyone is open and tolerant and accepting, where people and ideas flow freely. I would sign up for such a world in half a second if I could. We could keep our doors open all the time. But I did not build this world, I just live in it.

And till we have a better world, we need a Hindu nation here in India. Equal rights for Hindus in India would be a good beginning.

We have to choose between surviving as a civilization and a Nobel Peace Prize, one hundred years from now, to the last remaining Hindu.

‘Rashomon’, ‘Rightwing’, ‘Confusion’: Latest defence mounted by comedian accused of sexual harassment

The stand-up comedy scene in India has been taken by storm after allegations surfaced against multiple people of either harassing women sexually themselves or having knowledge of it and yet doing nothing to prevent it. After Utsav Chakraborty was outed, it was revealed that many many people who claim to be Feminists on social media chose to do nothing about it.

The revelations have come as a huge embarrassment for the stand-up comedy scene and many have issued an apology for their appalling conduct. However, Utsav, the man with whom the whole thing started, appears to hold his circumstances and others responsible for his own misconduct.

In a recent interview with Zoom TV, Utsav attempted to whitewash his inappropriate behaviour again by highlighting his mental health issues without offering any meaningful apology and then blamed the ‘rightwing’ for his current predicament. Utsav also appeared to downplay the allegations against him by asserting that it was only ‘online behaviour’.

Interestingly, ZoomTV has deleted the conversation which was uploaded earlier.

Utsav said, “A lot of it has been galvanized by rightwing Twitter accounts. Please check their Twitter accounts, their Twitter headers, whatever, a lot of it.” He maintained that what happened with Mahima was a ‘genuine misunderstanding’. During the interview, Utsav brought up the movie ‘Rashomon’ to assert that it’s a matter of ‘perspective’ and vehemently denied a particular allegation involving a 17-year-old. He said that he was ‘confused’ and is ‘forgetful’ and attempted to use it as an excuse for his conduct. In line with his thread on Twitter the other day after the allegations surfaced, he continued to portray himself as a victim despite admitting to harassing women sexually.

It is quite unnerving that Male Feminists view allegations of sexual harassment as a matter of ‘perspective’. Utsav kept harping about ‘context’ but there are clear red lines that must not be crossed. Judging strictly from the allegations made by the women and the responses to them by his colleagues and other members from the stand-up fraternity, it appears that multiple red lines were crossed and everyone knew about it. There’s no amount of context that could explain away sexual harassment, mental health is a very pathetic excuse. It is a stern condemnation of the ‘woke millennial male feminists’ that they perceive even sexual harassment as a matter of perspective.

Utsav appears to be incapable of owning up to his own actions and taking responsibility. First, he blamed his mental health for his conduct and now blames the rightwing for his misery. Only male feminists can blame others for their own conduct when they are called out for harassing women sexually. It’s utterly ridiculous. The AIB themselves admitted to knowing about his misconduct and apologized for letting their employees down by not taking any action right then. Is AIB now ‘rightwing’? Certain people had objected to OpIndia.com calling out the Left ecosystem which covers up for sexual predators in their midst accusing us here of politicizing a women’s issue. And here we have Utsav himself who is blaming the rightwing for the current mess he finds himself in.

Feminists are also blaming ‘Patriarchy’ for the current series of allegations that have been made. Woke Millennial Male Feminists sexually harass female feminists and other feminists choose to blame Patriarchy for it. This is patently absurd. It’s not much different from Utsav blaming the rightwing for his misery. It appears ‘Patriarchy’ and ‘rightwing’ have become convenient punching bags for the Left to avoid introspection of their own conduct and beliefs.

Nothing appears to indicate that Utsav truly comprehends the gravity of the allegations against him or genuinely regrets his own actions. He regrets being in the current situation, sure, but he appears to be blaming his circumstances and politics for his own abominable behaviour towards women. As things stand as of now, he appears to be of the mind that a giant conspiracy has been hatched to ruin his reputation.

For the first time ever, Diwali to be celebrated at Niagara Falls in Canada

0

Niagara Falls, one of the world’s greatest natural wonders will celebrate Diwali with the exuberant play of fireworks this year. This is going to be the first-ever Diwali celebration at this popular tourist destination. The Canadian non-profit, Indo-Canadian Arts Council (ICAC) will organize the festival of lights in collaboration with the Niagara Parks Commission.

“We wanted to have a landmark destination for Diwali to be observed in Canada and we wanted an iconic location,” said ICAC’s founder Director Ajaay Modi as per a report in Hindustan Times, on receiving the permission for the coveted event. For the couple years, ICAC has been toiling hard with local authorities to organize a grand Diwali celebration. Ajaay Modi is the person behind lightening up Niagara Falls in Indian Tricolor this year on Independence Day.

The local authorities taking care of the unwelcoming cold weather in the month of November has scheduled the celebration earlier on October 14. “That’s one drawback of being in Canada, it gets very cold”, Ajaay Modi Modi added.

ICAC has posted a detailed schedule of all the events on their website. The celebration would start with a cultural programme in the afternoon to be followed by extravagant fireworks in the evening.

The celebration would follow with the Canada Diwali festival series, Razzmatazz. ICAC has been conducting Razzmatazz for last five years. This year it is scheduled from October 12 to 13 at Mississauga Celebration Square. Each year over 50000 people attend the festival and create all the razzle-dazzle around the holy festival. Ramlila will also be organized, in which differently-abled artists will perform.

A large number of visitors both on the Canadian and American side will be viewing the panorama, as the Niagara Falls lies between Canada and the US. As in the last few years, a large number of students has started enrolling in the region. They can drive over only 2 hours from Toronto to reach the destination. Therefore, ICAC is expecting a large turnout this year at the inaugural event.

Here is how PM Modi choked foreign funding of NGOs that indulged in compromising national interest

One of the sterling achievements of Prime Minister Narendra Modi that does not receive adequate appreciation even from his supporters is the remarkable crackdown on foreign-funded NGOs by the NDA government. We at Opindia.com have reported at regular intervals on the government’s crackdown on them.

In 2015, the NDA government had issued notices to more than 10,000 NGOs for failing to submit their mandatory annual returns. In December 2017, it was revealed that foreign funding to Indian NGOs had dropped by 66% from the previous year. In June` 2018, the Home Ministry had launched an online tool to enable lawmakers to monitor funds received from abroad. Since assuming power in 2014, the government has deregistered 16,000 NGOs and cancelled the FCRA registrations of 13,000 of them.

When one takes a look at some of the NGOs whose FCRA licenses have been cancelled by the Modi government, it’s quite clear why the ‘civil society’ has such intense hatred for Narendra Modi. One of the NGOs whose FCRA license was cancelled is the Navsarjan Trust. Cancelling its license, MHA said, “Navsarjan Trust has come to adverse notice for its undesirable activities aimed to affect prejudicially harmony between religious, racial, social, linguistic, regional groups, castes or communities.” Since then, Martin Macwan has indulged in political propaganda against the BJP government and attempted to exploit Dalits for his own political objectives.

Apart from Navsarjan Trust, the license of ANHAD was also cancelled for “undesirable activities against public interest”. Compassion International, a Christian missionary organization, was also forced to shut down its operations in India. It was also reported that Amnesty International (India) Foundation and Rajiv Gandhi Charitable Trust was also under the scanner of the government for alleged FCRA violations. The FCRA license of Indira Jaising’s NGO Lawyers Collective was also cancelled. The NGO was using foreign contributions to achieve political objectives.

One state that has been taking remarkable action against foreign-funded organizations and Christian missionary organizations is Jharkhand. Recently, it was reported that the state government has conducted a massive crackdown on 88 Christian missionary operated NGOs on charges of misusing foreign funds for forceful religious conversion of tribals and political subversion.

Given the circumstances, it is very understandable that the entire ‘civil society’ is too busy crying ‘fascism’ at the Bharatiya Janata Party. During the UPA regime, they used to wield great power in policy making and drafting of laws through Sonia Gandhi’s National Advisory Council (NAC). And now, not only they have been unceremoniously removed from their vaulted position, they are being made to face the consequences of violating Indian laws. They are not being treated as ’eminent citizens’ anymore, they are being treated just like the ordinary Indian citizens they claim to represent.

One particular incident deserves special mention. A former Swiss Diplomat was deported from Ahmedabad soon after he landed in India earlier this year and was blacklisted. Although there has been no official communication on the incident, it was reported that the MHA had sought a report on the circumstances that led to his deportation. It was also speculated that he was deported due to his association with the SDC. The SDC had funded Navsarjan Trust whose license was cancelled by the government for engaging in activities that could disturb public harmony. ‘Eminent citizens’ demanded that the government apologize to the diplomat for deporting him. However, the government displayed no such inclination.

Despite considerable efforts by the NDA government, the mess is simply too big to solve within 5 years. As we have documented in our previous articles, foreign-funded organizations are still collaborating with separatist organizations which are in turn affiliated to an umbrella organization that is intricately associated with alleged Urban Maoists. We have also documented how these foreign-funded NGOs engage in political activism that has national security implications.

However, Narendra Modi is working in the right direction. As we have documented in an earlier report, activists associated with foreign-funded organizations were tasked with the responsibility of the Communal Violence Bill, an exceptionally anti-majority piece of legislation. Now, these activists are no longer in close proximity to power and therefore, are working hard to undermine Prime Minister Modi’s objectives. Despite being rendered rather powerless, these activists continue to shape narratives in a major way and Narendra Modi’s biggest obstacle going forward will be to dismantle the incestuous network that has been constructed by these foreign-funded activists.

Editor’s note: We had stated earlier that there was a 66% reduction in the amount of contribution received through foreign donations in 2016-17. However, it is clarified that the figure quoted in December 2017 recorded only the NGOs which had filed their annual returns until then. We understand that FCRA NGOs had more time left by which they could file their returns. Kiren Rijiju, Minister of State for the Ministry of Home Affairs, stated in the Parliament on the 25th of July, 2018 that FCRA organizations had received a total of Rs. 15329.16 crore in 2016-17 which is approximately a 13.78% reduction from the previous year in terms of absolute numbers.

VHP urges centre to bring a law to construct Ram Mandir, sets January 31 deadline

The Vishwa Hindu Parishad’s authorised decision making committee of saints and seers for the construction of Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, Sant Uchhadhikaar Samiti (SUS), demanded on Friday that the government brings a law to construct a grand Ram temple at Ayodhya even as the Supreme Court has set October 29 as the next date of hearing in the case saying that it cannot wait indefinitely for the judicial verdict.

The working president of the organisation, Alok Kumar, in a meeting held in Delhi, along with 50 out of the 70 members invited to the meet, passed a four-point resolution calling for a new law and building pressure on Parliament for the same.

A delegation of few members of the SUS also met the President Ram Nath Kovind, with a copy of its resolution and asked that the same be forwarded to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In a day-long meeting, the ‘Sants’ demanded a joint session of Parliament if need be. There were calls made to “remind Prime Minister Modi” of his “promise” of the construction of a Ram temple in Ayodhya.

It was further decided that if a law wasn’t passed in the winter session of Parliament, considered the last working session of the current government this term, then a Dharam Sansad of seers to be held during the Allahabad Kumbh on January 31 would decide future action.

The plans for a nationwide agitation, of meeting Governors of respective States and local MPs to press for such a Bill, were also discussed and cleared at the meeting.

Disappointed with the Supreme court verdict, the working president of VHP, Alok Kumar urged, “When the Representation of the People Act could be amended during the pendency of Indira Gandhi’s appeal in the SC against her election being set aside, why can’t a law be brought in on Ayodhya. We had expected the Dipak Misra bench to deliver its verdict in September. But rivals put roadblocks to delay the hearing of the main title suitcase,” he claimed.

The Ayodhya dispute is a political, historical and socio-religious debate in India, centred on a plot of land in the city of Ayodhya, located in Faizabad district, Uttar Pradesh. The main issues revolve around access to a site traditionally regarded among Hindus to be the birthplace of the Hindu deity Rama, the history and location of the Babri Mosque at the site, and whether a previous Hindu temple was demolished or modified to create the mosque.

In the latest judgement over the long-standing dispute over the Ram Janambhoomi, a three-Judge Bench of the Supreme Court, on September 27, ruled that the Ram Janambhoomi case will not be referred to a larger bench.

The judgment was in connection with the 1994 Ismail Faruqui verdict which dealt with the acquisition of religious place by the state. The verdict had concluded that offering Namaz at the Mosque was not integral to Islam as long as the Masjid did not have any particular significance in Islam. which dealt with the acquisition of religious place by the state. The verdict had concluded that offering Namaz at the Mosque was not integral to Islam as long as the Masjid did not have any particular significance in Islam.

Alok Kumar, however, stating the reason behind the meeting briefed the press saying, “When the documentation and other papers required for consideration of matter were completed before the Supreme Court Bench headed by former Chief Justice of India, Dipak Misra, we thought that a judgment would be forthcoming on the issue by September end this year, and the VHP had passed a resolution in an earlier meeting that we would wait for the court’s judgment. But, in the meanwhile, various obstacles were put in the way, like moving an impeachment motion against Justice Mishra and opening the Ismail Farooqui verdict. We are convinced that the case will not see a resolution any time soon, hence we have announced this programme.”

The Supreme Court has, however, set October 29 as the next date of hearing in the case.
