BJP leader Sadananda Gowda says Congress and JDS MLAs will ‘certainly’ vote for BJP

The Karnataka assembly will hold floor test today where it will be upon BJP legislative party leader BS Yeddyurappa to prove his majority. While the Karnataka Vidhana Soudha has been turned into a fortress in preparation for the event today at 4 am, leaders from BJP, Congress and JDS are all gearing up for today’s final match.

DV Sadananda Gowda, former CM of Karnataka and Union minister, has stated that some MLAs of Congress and JDS are “certainly” going to vote for Yeddyurappa.

Congress leaders, however, are confident that there will be no cross-voting. Ramalinga Reddy of Congress has stated that they are confident of victory. Ghulam Nabi Azad, who has been crucial in sealing the support of JDS after the election results were declared, has also said the same thing yesterday.

While JDS leader and the proposed CM candidate of the hurried post-results alliance HD Kumaraswamy has been confident about his MLAs being in support of the party’s decision so far, yesterday he admitted that two of his MLAs have gone missing.

The number of MLAs from Congress and JDS not being in touch can create a problem for the alliance. Yesterday, the BJP claimed that several signatures were forged in the letter Congress submitted to the Governor. As the BJP holds 104 MLAs and the Congress-JDS alliance is claiming they have 117, a few MLAs switching sides will be all that one side needs to stake a claim over the Throne of Karnataka.

Watch : How ‘The Quint’ lied to the farmers and edited their comments to suit their agenda

In an earlier report by Opindia, we busted the false narrative of the online portal ‘The Quint’ against Sr Sri Ravi Shankar and his organization The Art of Living.

In a well-edited video, ‘The Quint’ showed the testimonials from the farmers who claim in the video that they are unable to grow crops on the floodplain. The Quint in an attempt to sensationalize stories has tactfully distorted and hidden facts revealed by the innocent farmer’s. Our volunteers travelled to the area and spoke to the farmers regarding the issue. We also spoke to the same farmers that ‘The Quint’ spoke to, and the tale that emerged was extremely different. It seems that ‘The Quint’ has resorted to blatant lies and showing doctored and edited statements of the farmers. In some cases, they even misled farmers into believing that it was because of Sri Sri that they were not being allowed to farm when the truth is extremely different.

In this video report, what the farmers said to The Quint and what they later revealed has been juxtaposed to display the plain untruthfulness of The Quint’s report.

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xCwspAFOuyo]

This video clearly shows that a women farmer named Haravati was hired by the landowner Ram Singh to farm on his land and he had the permission to harvest on that particular land uninterrupted, while The Quint had misconstrued the video showing Haravati as the landowner and not being able to use her own land for farming.

She is also seen admitting to being misinformed by The Quint and for trying to put words in her mouth, which was later clarified by us. The lady is heard clearly stating that she was informed by the reporters of The Quint that the land on which she was farming was sold to Sri Sri which is a blatant lie. Later she was informed that it was actually the DDA which had restricted farming on the land.

The second farmer Sukhbir Singh, admits that the information which was given by him to ‘The Quint’ was distorted and that his statements were edited out to show the viewers a completely different picture.

The Quint in their video revealed that Sukhbir admitted that the land on which he was harvesting has become absolutely barren after bulldozers were used on it before the World Cultural Festival, but in this video, he is clearly heard saying that ‘This is not true. It’s like that for some time and goes back to normal once it rains for a while. The fertility of the soil is never lost.’

Sukhbir Singh was clearly unhappy with how this media house docketed his interview. He specified that ‘The Quint has just put what they wanted to in the interview and cut everything else out. I talked about the NGT and floodplain, the Yamuna and I also said I don’t have any grievances against towards Sri Sri’.

He also sent a message for ‘The Quint’. Sukhbir said that he is not a political person and that ‘The Quint’ should not edit his comments to turn the matter political.

The Quint has been dangerously purporting lies as truth by using innocent farmers to manufacture fake news. It is perhaps time they understand that real journalism demands to bring out all facets of the story honestly and not indulge in fake propaganda.

End of fiscal fear mongering? United Nations predicts 7.6% growth for Indian Economy in 2018-2019

The United Nations in its report ‘UN World Economic Situation and Prospects’ (WESP), said GDP growth in India is expected to climb to 7.5 and 7.6 percent in fiscal years 2017-18 and 2018-19 respectively. It also said that the economy has substantially recovered from the 6.7 percent growth India registered in the fiscal year 2017.

The reports said that India remained as the fastest growing economy in the world with 7.6 percent of growth due to the robust private consumption and the reforms taken by the present government. The report praised the present government for taking bold reforms and cautioned about the decreasing private investment. It added that there is a revival in capital spending in the economy as the private consumption is increasing.

The economy of China will be stable, with a moderate growth of 6.9 percent in 2017 to 6.5 percent in 2018 and 6.3 percent in 2019. China is making structural reforms to its economy but expected to remain solid, supported by robust consumer spending and supportive fiscal policies.

The report added that growth in the world economy is surpassing expectations and global GDP is now expected to expand by more than three percent this year and in 2019, reflecting strong growth in developed countries and broadly favourable investment conditions.

However, increased tensions regarding globalization and trade with uncertainties over monetary policies could create a challenge to the world economy. It also said that the increasing level of debt and greater geopolitical tensions may thwart the progress towards continuous growth. World Economy is projected to grow at 3.2 percent in 2018 and 2019.

The macroeconomic outlook in South Asia remains favourable, amid robust domestic demand, strong infrastructure investment and moderately accommodative monetary policies. GDP growth in the region is expected to strengthen to 6.6 percent in 2018 and 6.8 percent in 2019, following an expansion of 6.0 percent in 2017.

The report added that there is a growth in world trade, reflecting a widespread increase in global demand. The prices of the global commodity are slightly rising, which could exert some pressure on inflation in many developing countries, the report said.

This is not the first time that an international forum has praised India’s efforts in increasing its growth rate. Recently, the IMF had pegged India’s growth rate at 7.4 percent in 2018 and also praised its structural reforms. Similarly, rating agencies like Moody’s had backed Modi government and upgraded its sovereign rating first time in 14 years. The World Bank had also projected a strong growth under the leadership of Modi. India has jumped 30 places in Ease of Doing Business ranking. Micheal Dell had said, he was inspired by India’s growth story and Bill Gates had lauded Modi’s Aadhar scheme and said that he has funded the World Bank to take the Aadhar to other countries as well.

Baloch activist who praised India legitimizes terrorism against Hindus

International politics is a ruthless game and sentimentality or morality has little place in diplomacy when there is the burden of protecting the interests of your people on your shoulders. Ahmar Mustikhan from Balochistan gained a fair bit of popularity in India when he started speaking vocally in favour of India against Pakistan and against the oppression the Balochs are experiencing under the Pakistani regime.

Mustikhan even claimed to be a Hindu on Twitter.

Mustikhan received much support from people in India and even appeared on a Times Now debate. And at the time, his intentions appeared honest.

But as it turned out, as it so often does, there is much more to an individual than meets the eye. He took to Twitter recently to accuse RAW of murdering Balochs and India of committing a genocide in Kashmir.

He didn’t stop at that and went on to legitimize Islamic terrorism against Hindus.

And he can also be seen supporting a man who wished for the assassination of Prime Minister Modi.

It is natural to wonder then how did a man transform so radically within the space of a year. Of course, many things could have contributed to his transformation but there are a few obvious ones that come to mind. It is, of course, possible that the man has received threats from the ISI or the Pakistani Army which has scared him enough to rant against Indian institutions to please them. Or, he has been offered a lucrative deal by Pakistani agencies. However, the most likely possibility remains that he desired or sought something from the Indian government or authorities but his requests or demands were not entertained.

Mustikhan’s recent transformation is, however, no reason for Indians to wish ill upon the Balochs. They have been experiencing a lot of horror with a series of atrocities committed upon them by the Pakistanis against which they have been campaigning extensively but at the same time, Indians should be careful about getting emotionally invested with the concerns of any particular foreign population however aligned they may appear to our interests. In the arena of international politics, the interests of our people and our nation transcend everything. And we should be supporting the Balochs as long as it suits the interests of our people. And as it so appears, it does suit us to support their cause at the moment.

In his 2016 Independence Day speech, Prime Minister Modi did rake up the Balochistan issue. However, the Indian government has gone quiet on the matter as of now. India should be using the Balochistan issue to further its own national interest and not put ourselves in a situation or try to force our politicians into a situation where the matter could hurt our interests. Emotions hardly have a place in politics and with good reason.

Yogi govt directs six former UP CMs including Mulayam, Mayawati to vacate official bungalows in 15 days

The Yogi Adityanath led Uttar Pradesh government on Thursday issued notices which directed six former state Chief Ministers to vacate their official bungalows within the next 15 days, PTI has reported. These notices were sent by the estate department of the UP government.

These six former Chief Ministers include Mulayam Singh Yadav, Akhilesh Yadav, Mayawati, Rajnath Singh, Kalyan Singh and N D Tiwari.

As per an Indian Express report, these notices are in line with a 7 May Supreme Court order which struck down the act which enabled the former Chief Ministers eligible for official accommodation. We had reported that the apex court had nullified Section 4(3) of the UP Ministers (Salaries, Allowances, and Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, 1981, which granted permanent accommodation to former chief ministers (CMs).

The Supreme Court while delivering the judgement had observed that former CMs couldn’t be granted such facilities owing to them not holding any office. The petition in question was filed by an NGO named Lok Prahari which had challenged amendments made to the state laws by erstwhile CM Akhilesh Yadav in 2016.

It has been claimed that, after getting wind of him requiring to vacate the bungalows, Mulayam had met CM Yogi requesting him to get around the rules the rules by allotting his and Akhilesh’s bungalows to SP leaders Ram Govind Chaudhary and Ahmed Hasan, who are the leaders of opposition in Vidhan Sabha and Vidhan Parishad respectively. Despite this the order was served by the state government.

Incidentally, a Times of India report from about a week back had claimed that the residences of the former Chief Ministers also have outstanding dues like rent and water tax. As per the report, Mulayam has a payable rent of Rs 45,335, ND Tiwari needs to pay Rs 25,149 and Rajnath Singh hasn’t paid his rent for the past six months which amounts to Rs 13,438.

Apart from them, Akhilesh needs to pay his rent for the past two months and Mayawati for the last month.

Prime Ministers Modi and Putin decided on the first ever ‘informal summit’ over their third phone call this year

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is all set to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin in a first-ever “informal summit” between the two countries in Sochi on 21 May, as reported by Economic Times. This “informal summit” as described in a DNA report, in a “new type of diplomacy to promote India’s strategic interests”.

The idea of this meeting as described by media report came up when Modi and Putin had a phone call on 18 April, their third this year.

This informal summit is scheduled to last for about five hours and be dominated by one-on-one meetings between Modi and Putin. As per the prescribed itinerary, PM Modi after arriving in Sochi will have a one-on-one interaction with Putin until lunchtime, following which they would engage in another similar discussion. Besides the solo interactions, the summit might also see a restricted delegation level meeting.

One aspect of the informal summit is that it is not supposed to cater to any specific agenda and would also see the dismissal of the regular protocol. Despite this, the issues to be discussed are speculated to include the cooperation between the countries over BRICS and Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO).

As claimed in the DNA report, this Indo-Russian meet would also give the countries a chance to arrest a recent downturn in their diplomatic relations.

Apart from “Informal Summits”, India is also embarking on offbeat diplomatic ties, which was witnessed in form of Minister of State (MoS) for External Affairs V K Singh, becoming the first Indian Minister to visit North Korea in 20 years.

One of the major breakthroughs noted during the DPRK visit was the hermit nation’s assurance that it would, “never allow any action that would create concerns for India’s security”, as reported in an MEA statement.

The Karnataka conundrum : Congress, Courts and Democracy

0

Apart from all the other ills which are set in the grand old party including the desperation to place dynasty before democracy, is the strange structure of the party. The party, in its very inner and the most powerful parts, is too lawyer-heavy. The problem seems much similar to AAP which is too media heavy. Journalists who found a powerful retirement job option with the lateral movement into politics under the stormy weathers of Anti-corruption movement, seemingly keep advising Arvind Kejriwal that the answer to all his democratic and administrative failures is media management.

In almost a similar manner, all the political moves of Congress seem to be driven by the advice of the lawyers who are part of their topmost decision-making body, almost like the Consigliere in the famous Italian mafias. From Deepavali cracker ban pushed by Abhishek Manu Singhvi to Hadiya and Rohingya cases represented by Kapil Sibal to the most brazen case of failed attempt of trying to impeach the Chief Justice of India on not getting a favourable judgment in Justice Loya case.

Any party which loses the favour of the electorate after elections ought to go to the grassroots, work grounds up with sincere efforts and come back as a better option than the party in power. Congress, however, is so used to being in power that it is unable to bear the distance at which it is currently sitting from the power.

The family consuls keep on advising the family and Rahul Gandhi, anointed president of the Government, that they can somehow get the grand old party back in power without having to work the long haul, via the Judiciary. This not only explains the manoeuvres of the Congress, it also explains their desperation to interfere in the functioning of the Judiciary at the advice of the Lawyer-leaders of the Congress. Ever since Congress has been out of power, rather while they were in power itself, they discovered the magic of judicial adventurism, as PILs were filed against them on corruption cases, and then the family lawyers went about defending them.

There seem to have been strange design which has been working through the set of family lawyers, who went about representing PFI sponsored cases, fight for illegal Rohingya migrants, fight against Ram Temple which is the raw nerve to the majority population of India, and most recently the Justice Loya case, which has been thrown out. Whether or not they had a position to take on the matter as a political party, whether or not they had a chance to win the case as in Justice Loya case or the case of Impeachment, they would approach the courts merely because for a while people would believe that when one goes to the court, one must have some truth on their side.

With a free bunch of ever-enthusiast party lawyers, the objective of Congress reaching the courts from Kanhaiya Kumar to Junaid had less to do with the truth, and more to do with the possibility of propaganda. The more than helpful media was of much help there. The media fell in line, amplifying and providing a sense of some sort of rationality to the reckless judicial politics of the Congress, as Congress coming back to the power gave them some hope of returning to their own good old days as power brokers in the national political structures.

Media played its role in this attempt of Congress to somehow usurp the power, through some apolitical mechanization. When was last we saw media running a campaign in the name of an unfortunate murder of Junaid, positioning it as a murder on account of Beef, irrespective of the fact that the whole story was later junked by the courts? This fell in line with the carefully crafted narrative of BJP being a Hindu party and cow protection (under the directive principle of Constitution of India). They amplify and provide background meeting of Save democracy and Save Constitution, raised by the party responsible for the darkest days of our democracy the Emergency.

Of late, we find that every political debacle of the Congress being responded by one legal case or another. The lawyer-heavy party has forgotten that in democracy, power is derived from the people. If you go against the people’s mandate, even with the backing of Courts or media, you are circumventing the democracy.

Rahul Gandhi’s problem is extreme derision with which he views the democracy. This was visible when he declared himself to be ready to be the Prime Minister of the country, and even brazenly justifying it on the basis of his dynastic rights. He is not able to handle defeat. A good leader should be able to create victories and handle defeat. He is not able to do either.

It is also shameful that he thinks it is acceptable to lie blatantly. When the president of the opposing party has been exonerated by the courts, he continues to refer to him in electoral campaigns as a murderer. He talks about politics of love, but never hesitates in using the worst of the words for his political adversaries.

He has some absolute fantastical faith in his right to rule this nation and is not able to bear not being able to win the trust of the people. He is confounded by the fact that people do not trust him, while he does nothing to win their trust. BJP too has been out of power but never did this kind of nonsense like threatening riots, filing court cases, etc.

We find this again in the case of Karnataka where even after huge media hype hailing Siddaramaih as some sort of unbeatable satrap, Congress faced their humiliating defeat. Both of Congress soldiers came out all guns blazing, calling the Governor, a constitutional post, in worst possible manner. I won’t be surprised, if he someday, at the advice of his learned Consigliere even approach the courts seeking punishment for the people who refuse to believe in his lies and vote him to power.

3 MLAs don’t show up for Goa Congress’ move to stake claim to form Government, Where are they?

After the Karnataka Governor invited the BJP to form the Government in Karnataka, the Congress was visibly disturbed. The BJP had staked claim to form the Government, and it was the single largest party, hence it was called. The Congress, however, began drawing parallels to other recent elections such as the one in Goa.

In Goa, the Congress had emerged as the single largest party with 17 MLAs. But call it complacency or a lethargic attitude, the Congress never staked claim to form the Government. In fact, the Congress party was busy deciding who would be the CM. Many Congress MLAs had also gone on record blasting the central leadership for the opportunity wasted.

Today, the Congress has conveniently chosen to forget his episode. Now, the Congress wants to equate the situation with Karnataka. While Rahul Gandhi’s twitter account has decidedly become a troll on social media, the Goa Congress too wanted to don this role. The state unit yesterday decided to parade their MLAs (now 16) in front of the Governor, to “stake claim to form the Government” by virtue of being the single largest party.

Today, the Congress legislators came to meet the Governor but may have ended up embarrassing themselves. Instead of the total, only 13 turned up:

The 3 missing MLAs are Jennifer Monserrate, Subhash Shirodkar and Isidore Fernandes. Jennifer is one of the MLAs who had openly criticised Digvijay Singh last year. Subsequently, her husband former MLA Babush Monseratte switched from Congress to regional outfit Goa Forward, which is in alliance with the BJP. With just 13 MLAs physically present, Congress falls behind BJP which has 14 MLAs.

Newly appointed Goa Congress President Girish Chodankar, who himself lost the bye-elections in Panaji recently, stated that 1 MLA was sick and in the hospital and 2 were “out of station”.

This absence comes on the heels of Amit Shah’s visit to Goa last week. Prior to this meeting, Goa BJP MLA Vishwajit Rane (another former Congressman who had recently switched sides) had declared that many Congressmen were in touch with BJP and would even try to meet Amit Shah when he arrived in Goa.

Subramanian Swamy lashes out at Rahul Gandhi over his Pakistan comment

As reported by ANI, senior BJP leader Subramanian Swamy castigated Rahul Gandhi for comparing the Karnataka political turmoil with the state of Pakistan.

Swamy said that comparing the situation with the “third-rate country” is an insult. “Karnataka is in our hand, that’s why they (Congress) are scared. They have lost their balance,” he said. He has strongly condemned Rahul Gandhi’s act saying that attacking the country is a mortifying gesture on his part and that he needs a mental checkup.

Addressing a rally in Raipur, Congress president Rahul Gandhi, who, almost after 36 hours broke his silence, and made a sweltering attack on BJP compared the prevailing political atmosphere in the country to that in Pakistan. In his first public comment after the Karnataka election (which saw the Congress slip to a poor second place after the BJP), Gandhi chose to attack the judiciary, portraying it as a puppet in the BJP’s hands. “The BJP is scaring the judges of the Supreme Court. This happens when there’s a dictatorship,” the Congress chief said.

[youtube https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BstH-Q2Ab5w]

Subramanian Swamy is not the only one who damned Rahul Gandhi for making such disparaging comments. BJP’s Ravi Shankar Prasad has said that they were was ‘unacceptable and irresponsible.’ Speaking to Times Now, senior BJP leader and Union Law minister said Congress President has “crossed the limit of decency in his desperation after failing to rob the mandate” and nothing better is expected of him. He reminded Congress President that respecting the mandate (in an election) was part of the democratic process.

Earlier, BJP leader and Chhattisgarh’s Agriculture Minister Brijmohan Agrawal attacked Rahul Gandhi for likening the situation in India to Pakistan, saying the Congress chief has insulted the people of the country by making such a comparison.

Rahul Gandhi tweeting about BJP’s formation of the government despite failing to secure requisite numbers said the BJP has made a “mockery of our constitution.” He said, “while BJP celebrates its hollow victory, India will mourn the defeat of democracy.” The BJP’s irrational insistence that it will form a Govt. in Karnataka, even though it clearly doesn’t have the numbers, is to make a mockery of our Constitution.

This morning, while the BJP celebrates its hollow victory, India will mourn the defeat of democracy.

This was condemned by many on social media and immediately countered by a thrashing comment by BJP President Amit Shah.

With the high octane Karnataka elections drama being unfolded Congress President Rahul Gandhi has always got his fifteen minutes of fame, if not for his strategies, definitely for his fatuousness. While the results were pouring in, Twitter users had a field day with memes, jokes and sarcastic tweets.

Rahul Gandhi due to his lust for power and his incompetence has always been the cardinal focus of all social media addicts, who have time and again mocked him for his ludicrous comments.

SC orders floor test in Karnataka Assembly to be held tomorrow, no secret ballot for voting

On the second day of hearing after the Congress-JDS alliance moved to the Supreme Court at midnight petitioning against BS Yeddyurappa being invited to form the government, the 3 judge bench today ordered the floor test to be held tomorrow.

The 3 Judge bench comprising Justices AK Sikri, SA Bobde and Ashok Bhushan today passed an order that the floor test is held tomorrow at 4 PM after administering oaths to all elected MLAs. According to reports, as per the SCs demand, letters that Yeddyurappa presented to the Governor of Karnataka were placed before the judges. In today’s order, the SC has also reportedly effectively ignored the decision of the Governor Vajubhai Vala to let Yeddyurappa prove his party’s majority within 15 days.

Though Mukul Rohatgi, who represented the BJP in the SC hearing requested for more time for the floor test, BJP leader Shobha Khandaraje has stated to media that the BJP will prove its majority.

According to reports, the SC has also set the conditions that neither sworn CM Yeddyurappa can take any major policy decisions before the floor test nor any secret ballot will be allowed. The SC bench has also ordered that as claimed by some sources, an MLA from the Anglo-Indian community cannot be nominated before the floor test. The SC has also ordered the DGP to take adequate security measures to ensure a smooth floor test.

Reports also state that the SC ordered a protem speaker be appointed before the floor test who will also administer oaths to all the MLAs before the set time tomorrow. According to reports, 8 times Congress MLA RV Deshpande has been recommended for the post.

Though it is believed that the protem speaker does not vote during a floor test, there are mixed opinions on social media on whether it will be beneficial for the BJP or not.

The Congress-JDS alliance had been busy ferrying their MLAs from one resort to another for ‘safeguarding’ them. However, as now the SC order has set the floor test to be held tomorrow and all MLAs to be sworn-in before the test, they are expected to be rushing back to Bengaluru.
