The police officials said that the mobs resorted to stone-pelting soon after Friday prayers and locals disbanded into small groups and disappeared in small lanes and tried to lead processions.
On Wednesday, a special court in Jaipur had convicted four people for the 2008 Jaipur blasts, which killed nearly 80 people and left many others injured. The quantum of sentence was announced on Friday by the special court.
The situation in Kanpur also turned violent after protesters went unruly in the city. The violent Muslim mobs chased a police jeep and ransacked public property.
The Muslim radicals had attacked the professor as a punishment for the alleged reference to Prophet Mohammed in a question paper that he prepared for an internal exam in 2010.
On December 16, Former BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar was convicted in the Unnao rape and kidnapping case by Delhi’s Tis Hazari Court. The court had convicted Sengar for rape under the sections of IPC and the POCSO Act for raping a minor.
