Former Vice President Mohammad Hamid Ansari has once again sparked a major controversy by declaring that Hindu communalism represents a greater threat than communism in India. This statement was made during a speech delivered at an event titled “Remembering a Polymath: The Life and Times of Abdul Ghafoor Noorani.” It took place at the India Islamic Cultural Centre in New Delhi on 18th September (Friday).
Ansari referred to a book written by Noorani and stated, “The RSS: A Menace to India was the title of the book, which was published in 2019 and is perhaps his last major book. It is substantive in volume and content but did not attempt to camouflage the ideological objective that, in Noorani style, he expressed in two Urdu couplets. ‘Sar zamin-e-Hind par aqwam-e-aalam ke, Firaq, Kafile aate rahe aur Hindustan banta gaya‘ (On the soil of Hind, O Firaq, caravans from all over the world kept coming, and so was Hindustan made).”
He added, “The second couplet ‘Jab gulistan ko lahoo ki zaroorat padi, Sabse pehle hamari hi gardan kati. Phir bhi kehte hain humse ye ahl-e-chaman, Ye chaman hai hamara, tumhara nahin‘ (When the country needed blood, it was our necks that were severed first. Yet, its guardians tell us that this nation is ours and not yours).”
“The latter couplet, which he wrote in the first line of the book’s introduction, accurately sums up what he described as the Muslim sentiment in India today. In the introduction to this volume, he cited Jawaharlal Nehru’s observation at a meeting of officers of the Ministry of External Affairs, recorded for posterity by Foreign Secretary Gundevia. I quote those words: The danger to India, mark you, it is not communism. It is Hindu right-wing communalism,” Ansari further alleged.

In addition to claiming that Muslims made the first sacrifices for India, which he had already described as not a nation belonging to its people but rather a piece of property representing an inn where travellers (who were actually bloodthirsty Islamist marauders) from around the world arrived and then chose to settle, effectively reducing it to free real estate and not a sovereign country, he also targeted the majority community by portraying them as the biggest threat to their own homeland.
Muslims are, anyway, perpetual victims in the eyes of the Islamo-leftist ecosystem. Thus, Islamic terrorism, which has afflicted India for centuries, will never receive acknowledgement or even space in their remarks.
Nevertheless, this is not the first instance in which Hamid has been engaged in such objectionable conduct. He has been accused of helping Mukhtar Ansari while serving as vice president. The two belong to the same family, as revealed by the late gangster. Pakistani journalist Nusrat Mirza, who had asserted that he engaged in espionage activities targeting India, maintained that he had met Ansari on five separate occasions. However, he later took a U-turn from his revelation.
Ansari also faced severe backlash for attending an event organised by the Hinduphobic and anti-India “Indian American Muslim Council” (IAMC). He used the platform to malign India’s image as an intolerant and communal nation. He expressed, “In recent years, we have experienced the emergence of trends and practices that dispute the well-established principle of civic nationalism and interpose a new and imaginary practice of cultural nationalism.”
“It seeks to present an electoral majority in the guise of a religious majority and monopolise political power. It wants to distinguish citizens based on their faith, give vent to intolerance, insinuate otherness, and promote disquiet and insecurity. Some of its recent manifestations are chilling and reflect poorly on our claim to be governed by the rule of law. It’s a question that has to be answered. These trends need to be contested and contested legally and contested politically,” he added.
Ambassador Deepak Vohra disclosed at that time that multiple intelligence agencies had alerted the Indian government that Ansari’s priorities and inclinations were oriented toward Islamism rather than India’s national interests. “He seems to have greater loyalty to our neighbours, which are at the moment in terrible conditions, than he did to his own country, and he took the oath to uphold whatever knowledge that came to him during his capacity as Vice President and earlier as ambassador,” Vohra highlighted.
He also discussed how Ansari deceived India’s intelligence operatives in Iran, and how he refused to intervene to free them despite the pleas of their family members. “So when he pilloried India on a terrorist-linked virtual platform, it is quite clear that he has connections that are now being probed, and I hope as soon as the results of this investigation come out, I hope that Ansari will get his justice served,” Vohra stated.
