In her plea, Karat alleged that in speeches made by the two politicians, they threatened to use force to remove protestors, who were holding protests at Shaheen Bagh against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).
In response to Brinda's remark that Arif Khan might run for Lok Sabha from Kerala on a BJP ticket, he asked, "Has she contested any election? I wish to treat her comments with the contempt it deserves."

"In Kerala, the Congress is clearly with the RSS and the BJP against the CPI(M). At the national level, they talk about fighting against Modi, but in Kerala, where there is a government with alternative policies and a pro-people stance, the Congress cannot tolerate it," she said.
Brinda Karat said, "We are against the dictatorship displayed by the TMC during the Panchayat elections of Bengal that claimed 60 lives. It is a reality of West Bengal."
