The Kanpur police on Sunday said that they will record the statement of the victim, who had earlier had accused the police officer of advising her to follow Sharia law and accept the triple talaq given to her by the husband.

Rampant cases of domestic violence and physical assaults related to the evil practice of triple talaq are reported regularly.

In her complaint, the woman said her husband returned from Saudi. While the woman was expecting a compromise from her husband, she was informed that her husband had married a 17-year-old-girl.

The police arrested Agra's Rakabganj resident Chukru Rehman aka Zikru Rehman after his wife Tarannum Begum had approached CM Yogi Adityanath alleging that her husband had given her triple talaq.
