Ambubachi Mela stands because of the rituals and religious beliefs associated with it. It is said that the festival marks the menstruation phase of Goddess Kamakhya.
The 524-year-old Tripura Sundari temple is built on the top of a small hill or hillock, which resembles the back of a tortoise. This is why it is also known as Kurma Pitha (Kurma means tortoise).
Kalika Mandir at Pavagadh was destroyed by Mahmood Begda and a dargah was constructed at the destroyed Shikhara to insult Hindus. The Mandir has now been reclaimed.
