It was discovered that some individuals in remote villages such as Manoharthana and Dangipura were selling their bank accounts and identity documents to other people for small amounts of money.

The SIT, formed after the directions of the Kerala High Court, has been probing two cases relating to the theft of gold from the Dwarapalaka idols and the loss of gold from the Sreekovil door frames at Sabarimala temple.

To bring the situation under control, police had to fire several rounds in the air and use tear gas shells to disperse the mob.

The SIT has been asked to complete its probe within a month and to refrain from interacting with the media or the public during the investigation.
