Police in Uttarakhand’s Khatima have booked Sidari Prasad for allegedly converting Dalit Hindus to Christianity through inducements and deceit. The accused, now absconding, faces charges under the Uttarakhand Freedom of Religion Act and Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Activists belonging to the Hindu rights organisations Vishwa Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal reached the restaurant at night and handed over the accused to the police. Angry people took to the streets in the city. The police administration held a meeting and spoke with the traders to control the situation.
Police faced fierce resistance in Kashipur when Islamists leading an unauthorised ‘I Love Muhammad’ procession turned violent, surrounded officers, tore uniforms, and attacked with sticks and stones, prompting swift action, FIR registration, and continuing raids.
