Rahul Gandhi dissolves CWC for plenary session, drops permanent invitee Captain Amarinder and others

Congress Party President Rahul Gandhi has dissolved the highest decision-making body of the party, the Central Working Committee (CWC), and constituted a steering committee that will function in its stead for the next plenary session of the AlCC. The AICC plenary will ratify Rahul Gandhi’s election as the President of the Party and is expected to be held before the second part of the budget session of the Parliament on March 5.

The 34-member new steering committee retains all the members of the CWC and will include some new members. However, some permanent invitees such as Amarinder Singh and Shivajirao Deshmukh and all special invitees have been dropped. A new CWC will be constituted after the plenary session.

“Congress president Rahul Gandhi has constituted a steering committee for the forthcoming plenary session as per Article XV (vii) (b) of the party’s Constitution. The steering committee will function in place of the Working Committee of the party,” said AICC general secretary Janardan Dwivedi in a statement.

Rahul Gandhi has changed the way the Congress party works in certain ways already since becoming Party President, especially in the social media use of the party was juvenile, and often crass, humour has become abundant. Rahul Gandhi has his hands full this year with important elections in key states ahead of the General Elections next year and will be looking to further shape the functioning of the party to his liking.
