Kerala CM says ‘some customs meant to be violated’, intent of women trying to enter Sabarimala temple questioned

While the entire state is burning over the issue of entry on women in Sabarimala temple, Kerala CM has come with a controversial statement. Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan has said that certain customs are meant to violated, clearly hinting at the belief of devotees of Lord Ayyappa.

The ruling Communist has been supporting the Supreme Court judgement allowing women of ages to enter the Sabarimala temple. The state government has refused to file a review petition rejecting the requests made by priests of the temple. Earlier, the Kerala CM had made another controversial statement, saying “if faith is above Constitution and law, why not have temple in Ayodhya”. He has also accused that the attacks on journalists by protesters are RSS agenda.

Questions also have been raised about the women trying to enter the temple, there is doubt on the true intention of women who are trying to defy the protests by devotees. The case of one journalist named Libi CS has been cited as an example of this. She had tried to go to the temple today, but she was stopped by devotees blocking the path. Yesterday, Libi had announced on Facebook that she and her friends are going to Sabarimala on Wednesday, while also declaring that she and one of her friends are atheists.

On the Facebook post, Libi had written that they have no desire to visit Sabarimala, but still they are going there to defy the protests by devotees. She also writes that she decided to go to Sabarimala after witnessing the protests and the casteist abuses directed at the Chief Minister, which suggests that she is a supporter of the communist party.

There is a legitimate question why a self-confessed atheist will want to go to a religious place, if not to fan tension.
