Cyclonic storm Fani, which has been identified as category extremely severe in intensity (category 4), is to hit the Indian coast in Odisha after having originated from a tropical depression, which formed near west of Sumatra (Indonesia) in the Indian Ocean on 26 April.

Authorities are on high alert in both India and Bangladesh to deal with the eventualities. Indian navy has deployed naval ships in Vishakapatnam and Chennai and naval aircrafts are also on standby. Kolkata airport has been shut down.
