The Union government has asked former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda to vacate his guest accommodation at Vithal Bhai Patel House in Lutyens’ Delhi.
According to reports, former Prime Minister of India HD Deve Gowda currently has possession of two government accommodations in Lutyens Delhi. Apart from his official residence at Safdarjung Lane, which is granted to him for being a former prime minister, HD Devegowda also holds on to another guest accommodation in Vithal Bhai Patel House.
HD Devegowda, who lost the 2019 Lok Sabha elections has now been asked by the Union government to vacate the guest house. However, he can stay at his official residence at Safdurjung Lane.
“Besides the official residence, he has been using the guest accommodation at V P House on Rafi Marg. He has been asked to vacate the guest accommodation,” reports said.
According to the existing rules, former MPs have to vacate their bungalows within a month of the dissolution of the Lok Sabha. President Ram Nath Kovind had dissolved the 16th Lok Sabha on May 25th with immediate effect on the recommendation of the Union Cabinet after Prime Minister Modi formed the government for a second term.
Not just former PM HD Devegowda but also 25 other former MPs have been asked to vacate their official residences at Delhi. The former MPs continue to reside there despite their lapse of five-month deadline after the dissolution of previous Lok Sabha.
All former Prime Minister’s are entitled to the facilities as that of Cabinet Minister, including lifetime free accommodation, free medical assistance, staff, domestic travel, office expenses, SPG security for one year and also free electricity and water for life.
