Kerala landslides: Death toll in Wayanad rises to 95, exams postponed, State govt announces mourning

The catastrophe has been triggered by heavy rainfall, leading to landslides and destruction of homes, swelling of water bodies, and uprooting of trees.

The massive landslides in Wayanad district of Kerala on Tuesday (30th July) have claimed the lives of 95 people.

As per reports, about 116 people are injured and many remain missing. The development was confirmed by the office of the Kerala Revenue Minister.’

The catastrophe has been triggered by heavy rainfall, leading to landslides and destruction of homes, swelling of water bodies, and uprooting of trees.

Areas such as Mundakkai, Chooralmala, Attamala, and Noolpuzha villages have also been cut off due to landslides.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team is conducting search and rescue operations along with the Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA).

In the meantime, the Public Service Commission exams that were scheduled to take place between 31st July and 2nd August have been postponed.

The Kerala government had announced 2-days of Statewide mourning in light of the devastation caused by the landslides.
