Delhi police crime branch arrests Asadul Mondal from Bengal for jewelry theft of Rs 6 crores

On 24th December, the Delhi Police Crime Branch said that they have cracked a jewellery theft case worth over Rs. 6 crores. The police arrested the main accused Asadul Mondal from West Bengal’s Hooghly District and seized 3 grams of stolen gold jewelry.

Taking to X, the Delhi Police Crime Branch informed about the significant breakthrough in the case and said, “A high-value jewelry and diamond theft reported at Police Station Karol Bagh, Delhi, has been successfully cracked by the Central Range, Crime Branch, Delhi. Key Highlights: Main Accused apprehended in Hooghly, West Bengal. 953 grams of gold jewelry recovered. Swift action by the team led by Inspector Sunil Kumar Kalkhande, ACP Pankaj Arora, and DCP Sh. Vikram Singh resulted in quick justice.”

In a statement, the police revealed details of the jewelry theft incident and said, “Asadul Mondal, a resident of Hooghly, West Bengal, was involved in repairing, polishing, and setting stones into intricate designs for gold and diamond jewelry in the Beadonpura area of Karol Bagh. He was entrusted with a significant quantity of gold jewelry, weighing 2.7 kg, by one Sh. Sanjay Goyal, a jewelry dealer in Karol Bagh. These items were meant for repair and for setting diamonds and stones in preparation for an upcoming exhibition in Rajasthan. Assured by Mondal that the work would be completed quickly, Sanjay Goyal expected the jewelry to be returned promptly. However, on December 17, 2024, Goyal discovered that Mondal was no longer present at his workplace in Karol Bagh, Delhi. Mondal had fled, taking the gold jewelry worth approximately Rs. 1 crore and 90 lacs, along with his close associates.”

It added that after Goyal informed the police and a case under Criminal Breach of Trust at Karol Bagh police station, the police initiated an investigation into the matter.

Meanwhile, another person named Ravikant came up with a similar complaint saying that he entrusted Asadul Mondal with 5.5 kg of gold jewelry, worth approximately Rs. 3 crores 90 lakh, and diamonds valued at Rs. 40 lacs for repair, polishing, and intricate design work.

“However, Asadul Mondal did not return the gold and diamond items as promised. Instead, he fled with the jewelry, taking the items along with his associates. This revelation expanded the scope of the investigation and further implicated Mondal in a larger theft involving multiple victims. The case involves a significant embezzlement of gold and diamond jewelry items, with a total value exceeding Rs. 6 crores. Asadul

Mondal and his associates are accused of stealing these valuable items. Mondal was entrusted with the jewelry by multiple victims, including Sanjay Goyal and Ravikant, for repair, polishing, and setting stones. However, he betrayed their trust, fled with the gold and diamonds and leaving both victims with substantial financial losses. The investigation has now revealed the scale of the embezzlement, highlighting the extent of Mondal’s criminal activities,” the Delhi Crime Branch stated.
