‘Kashmiri Muslims led a mob to attack a student for praising ‘The Kerala Story’: Eyewitness of GMC hostel scuffle that left one injured

A medical student got injured in a scuffle that broke out between two groups of students of the Government Medical College (GMC) in Jammu, said the police on Monday (May 15). The fight reportedly broke out late on Sunday night after a student allegedly shared a Whatsapp message praising the recently released movie The Kerala Story.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jammu Chandan Kohli said an investigation into the matter is underway. “There has been an incident of scuffle between some students and outsiders in GMC hostel Jammu. Cognisance of the matter has been taken and an investigation is going on,” the SSP said.

Meanwhile, after the Sunday night incident, several Hindu students came out to protest the discrimination they have been facing in the hostel. A Hindu student, who had witnessed the Sunday incident firsthand, told JK News that Kashmiri Muslims in the GMC hostel led a mob to attack the 1st year Hindu student for endorsing ‘The Kerala Story.’

He said that a first-year MBBS Hindu student uploaded a link to the movie The Kerala Story with the message ‘Must Watch’ on a Whatsapp group. A senior Muslim student, along with several others, allegedly confronted the first-year student after becoming enraged by the post. They were opposed to the message sent in the group. This resulted in an argument. Seeing the 1st year student being threatened, more Hindu students gathered to support him. The argument quickly escalated into a full-fledged brawl.

Further recalling what actually happened on Sunday night, the student said that some senior Kashmiri Muslim students were so outraged with the message that they accosted the first-year student who had written it in the hostel corridor and threatened him with death. The Kashmiri Muslim students threatened to kill him and his family if he kept supporting the film.

The Hindu student attempted to explain to the outraged Kashmiri Muslim students that people’s ideas can differ and that what he posted was entirely his point of view and belief and that they did not have to agree with it. However, the Kashmiri Muslim students refused to listen to him. They began mercilessly beating him up in the hostel corridor.

When some senior Hindu students saw the 1st year student being ruthlessly beaten by 15-20 Kashmiri Muslim students, they rushed to his aid. They attempted to intervene, but the Kashmiri students began beating them up as well. Within no time, up to 100 to 150 Kashmiri Muslims arrived and began mercilessly beating the Hindu students.

The Hindu student who witnessed the entire incident further told JK News that the mob led by the Kashmiri Muslim students raised slogans like ‘Nara-e-Takbeer’, ‘Azadi’ and ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ while thrashing the Hindu students. He said that the attack on the Hindu students was so brutal that for a moment they thought they would all be lynched to death.

Recalling how one junior Muslim student brutally assaulted a senior Hindu student with a glass bottle on his head, the eyewitness said that the mob brought kadas, rods and other weapons with them which they at first used to attack the Hindu students and then they started attacking their own people with those weapons to play the victim.

“They were the ones who attacked us, and now they are playing the victim, accusing us of attacking them,” the Hindu student said to the YouTube news channel, asserting that the Kashmiri Muslim students had hit their own members in order to discredit the Hindu students.

The eyewitness also told the media outlet that they had video recordings and screenshots of messages to confirm what happened in the GMC hostel on Sunday night.

Media spins the attack by Kashmiri Muslims in GMC hostel in Jammu

Notably, several mainstream leftist media outlets also reported the incident but obviously, they had a different version to tell where the Hindu student was portrayed as an aggressor for ‘provoking’ others by praising The Kerala Story, a movie that seeks to shed light on the dark underbelly of rampant Islamism underway in Kerala.

For example, Deccan Herald published a report based on a news copy circulated by the news agency Press Trust of India (PTI) that said that “the student, who had objected to the sharing of the link, was later confronted and assaulted inside the hostel, leading to a scuffle as more and more students along with some outsiders joined the ruckus.”

It further said that the students alleged that members of a right-wing group were brought into the hostel from outside, who shouted religious slogans and attacked one of the students with a sharp-edged object, injuring him in the head.

This is the same version that was shared by outlets like Tribune, Business Standard, Devdiscourse, etc.

Opposition leaders also descended on Twitter to use the narrative spun by these media outlets to blame the scuffle on the aggrieved party while portraying the aggressors as victims.

“Very distressing images of gunda elements targeting Kashmiri students in Jammu. @JmuKmrPolice must take cognisance of this & ensure those responsible are brought to book. @OfficeOfLGJandK must ensure this is done in a time-bound manner & reassure students that their safety will not be compromised at the alter of politics,” the former Chief Minister of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullah tweeted while sharing a post shared by the national convenor of the Jammu and Kashmir student association, which depicted the Muslim students’ version of the incident.

“Shocking that GOI (Government of India) promotes & encourages violence through movies stoking communal fires. The blood of innocents is being spilled to quench the BJP’s insatiable thirst for petty electoral dividends. Request @OfficeOfLGJandK ji to take cognisance & punish the culprits,” PDP chief and former CM of Jammu and Kashmir Mehbooba Mufti was also seen toeing a similar line, blaming BJP for promoting violence.

Meanwhile, Principal GMC Shashi Sudhan Sharma visited the protesting students and assured them that action will be taken as per the law of the land.

“There was a scuffle in the boy’s hostel and five students suffered minor injuries. Four of them were discharged immediately, while one of them who had received stitches in the head, is being discharged within two hours,” Sharma, who visited the emergency ward to enquire about the injured student’s health, told reporters.

“A WhatsApp message worked as instigation but the situation is well under control (now). The interference of some medicos who have left the institute and some others were recorded,” she said, adding an FIR has already been lodged and the disciplinary committee is doing its job.

Nashik: Muslim mob tries to barge into Trimbakeshwar temple to offer ‘chadar’ on revered Shivling, security personnel thwart bid

Vigilant security personnel successfully thwarted an attempt by a group of individuals from the Muslim community to forcefully enter the Trimbakeshwar Mandir and place a Chadar on the revered Shivling. The incident has sparked concerns, and the Brahmin Mahasabha has demanded a thorough investigation by the police. It is worth noting that the Trimbakeshwar Mandir, renowned as a Jyotirlinga Mandir, holds immense significance as a revered Hindu pilgrimage centre.

As per reports, individuals participating in the urs procession, who happened to be Muslims, tried to barge into the Trimbakeshwar temple premises and place a chadar on the sacred Shivling. The forceful entry bid was stopped by vigilant security personnel and the authorities managing the temple.

The occurrence led to heightened tension within the premises, but prompt intervention by both the police and the temple management helped alleviate the situation. Besides, there has been a demand for legal action against the group of Muslims involved in the incident. The Brahmin Mahasangh expressed their intention to stage protests if the police did not take appropriate action within a reasonable timeframe.

The administrative officer of the Shri Trimbakeshwar Devasthan Trust sent a letter to the Trimbakeshwar police inspector, detailing an incident that occurred on May 13 at approximately 9:41 PM. According to the letter, during the procession of the urus near the north gate of the Shri Trimbakeshwar Mandir, certain participants from the urus attempted to enter the temple premises. However, the security personnel from the Maharashtra police promptly intervened and prevented the Muslims from gaining entry.

The letter also emphasizes the longstanding tradition of allowing only Hindus to enter the Mandir. It acknowledges that the incident has the potential to cause social disturbances. On behalf of the members of the Devasthan Trust, the administrative officer urges the police to acknowledge the incident and initiate an investigation. Additionally, the administrative officer requests that legal measures be taken against the perpetrators and preventive measures be implemented to avert similar incidents in the future.

Uttarakhand: Over 300 illegal mazars demolished in Devbhoomi as a part of demolition drive

The Uttarakhand government, under the leadership of Pushkar Singh Dhami, has taken strong measures to address the issue of unauthorized construction of Mazars (mausoleums) and other religious structures.

Described as a significant endeavour to combat unlawful religious activities, especially within forested regions, the authorities have demolished over 330 Mazars in the past 90 days, marking a substantial cleanup operation.

Supported by the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), the ideological mentor of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), this campaign to demolish religious structures gained momentum following intelligence reports indicating a significant increase in “religious encroachments” in Uttarakhand, known as “Devbhoomi” due to its abundance of pilgrimage sites.

“The effort to address encroachments will persist in Devbhoomi. We will not permit any form of land jihad to take place in Uttarakhand,” stated Chief Minister Dhami.

Earlier today, the Corbett Tiger Reserve administration dismantled nine Mazars that were situated deep within the forested area. According to reports, one of the illegal mazars that was demolished today was 150 years old.

While human activities are generally prohibited within tiger reserves, except for regulated safaris, an exception was observed in the case of Corbett Tiger Reserve, where unrestricted access to Mazars within the reserved forest area was allowed.

Dhiraj Pande, the director of Corbett Tiger Reserve, informed News18.com that they have implemented strict measures against unlawful encroachments as per the government’s directives. Notices were issued to individuals connected with the Mazars a week ago, but there was no response from them. Consequently, a demolition drive was carried out.

The official stated that during the past three months, over 325 Mazars were demolished throughout the state, resulting in the liberation of approximately 91 hectares of forest land.

Parag Madhukar Dhakate, an IFS officer responsible for overseeing the anti-encroachment drive, expressed his directive to divisional forest officers, urging them to plant fruit saplings in the now vacant land that has been cleared of encroachments.

Earlier in March 2023, the Uttarakhand government rolled bulldozers over illegal mazars which were built by encroachment on the reserved forest land. The action took place after Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami directed the state authorities to clear forest land of encroachment.

The government authorities demolished 26 mazars that were illegally constructed on the government’s forest land. The authorities conducted a survey and identified around 1400 religious structures built illegally on government land.

While Chief Minister Dhami has adopted an assertive stance, the senior leadership of the main opposition party, Congress, has remained silent on the matter. The party has consistently argued for the regularization of Mazars constructed before 1980.

However, officials have emphasized that not a single claimant has come forward to assert ownership or make any claims regarding the Mazars.

The Directorate of Enforcement (ED) carried out search operations and froze movable properties, worth Rs 158 crore, of lottery king Santiago Martin.

The searches by the agency in Coimbatore and Chennai carried out on Thursday-Friday, were under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002. Along with the movable properties, documents of immovable property worth Rs 299.16 Crore were seized.

“Thus, properties worth Rs 457 Crore (approx) were unearthed as a result of search operations carried out, and the same have been seized/frozen against the Proceeds of Crime,” the ED said on Monday.

The premises covered include the Registered Office of Future Gaming Solutions India Private Limited at Coimbatore, which is the master distributor of Sikkim Lotteries, the residential premises of Santiago Martin at Coimbatore and the residential premises as well as the business premises of his family members at Chennai.

ED initiated a money laundering investigation on the basis of a final report by CBI for various offences punishable under various sections of IPC against Martin and others relating to the sale of lotteries of the Government of Sikkim in the state of Kerala.

“From the PMLA investigations conducted, it was found that S. Martin and his associate companies and entities had made an unlawful gain with a corresponding loss to the Government of Sikkim to the extent of Rs 910 Crore on account of inflating the Prize-Winning Tickets claim for the period from April 1, 2009, to August 31, 2010.”

Nagendra Naik, who lost his deposit on JD(S) ticket, was recommended by Supreme Court collegium for position of judge in Karnataka High Court

Advocate Nagendra Naik contested the Karnataka Vidhan Sabha elections on a Janata Dal (Secular) ticket from the Bhatkal constituency. When the results were declared on Saturday (May 13), he received a rude shock.

Naik failed to even get 1% of the votes cast by the electorates. With just 1502 votes to his name, the advocate found himself at a distant third position in the Bhatkal constituency. It was also a reflection of the standing of his party in Karnataka, which has been reduced to only 19 seats in an Assembly of 224.

While speaking about his poor performance to The Indian Express, Naik said, “My campaign started very late and anyway the people voted overwhelmingly for the Congress because they wanted to keep the BJP out.”

Nagendra Naik is not an ordinary advocate who chose to join electoral politics on a whim. His name has been recommended by the Supreme Court to the Centre for elevation as a Judge of the Karnataka High Court, not once, but four times.

His name was first proposed [pdf] by a Collegium headed by former Chief Justice of India (CJI) Ranjan Gogoi on October 3, 2019. The Union government, however, raised objections and asked the Collegium to reconsider its decision.

Naik’s name was reiterated [pdf] by another Collegium headed by SA Bobde on March 2, 2021. Another such reiteration was made in September of that year by a Collegium headed by then CJI NV Ramanna.

An unprecedented move by the Centre

In January 2023, a Collegium comprising CJI D.Y. Chandrachud, Justices SK Kaul and KM Joseph yet again recommended the name of Nagendra Naik in an unprecedented move.

Usually, the Centre accepts the nomination of a Judge if the name is recommended by the apex court twice as part of a long-standing convention. However, in the case of Naik, the Union government kept seeking reconsideration of his name.

Citing sources, NDTV reported in March this year that the Centre’s objection to Naik’s elevation is based on his ‘close affiliation with a political party’ and criminal complaints against him (which the Collegium has dubbed as ‘baseless’).

Reportedly, the Collegium even took objection to the Union government’s strong stance and said, “(Such delay) affects the individual lawyer professionally as well as the institution.”

Nagendra Naik joins Janata Dal (Secular)

While blaming the Centre, Nagendra Naik claimed that he has waited for his judgeship ‘patiently’ for 4 years and that it had reached a dead end.

“I always wanted to do public service and once I realised that my judgeship was at a dead-end…I chose to take a plunge into politics…I decided one month ago to contest the elections,” he told The Indian Express.

The advocate claimed that the Centre was holding his education at Anjuman College in Bhatkal against him. He also alleged that his prospect at Judgeship might have been thwarted by an article in a local newspaper, wherein he chronicled communal riots in coastal Karnataka.

When asked whether he withdrew his consent for being a Judge prior to contesting Karnataka elections on a JDS ticket, he refused to do so ‘on principle.’ Naik suggested that his legal career took a hit every time there was a discussion around his Judgeship.

While speaking to The Indian Express, he conceded that all doors to his Judgeship are now closed after fraying into electoral politics.

Uttar Pradesh: Ibrahim Thomas from Kerala among three arrested for a conversion bid in Ghaziabad

On Sunday, the Uttar Pradesh Police arrested three persons for attempting to convert a Hindu woman into Christianity. The incident is said to have happened in the Khoda area of Ghaziabad district and the woman who was being influenced to convert to her religion is said to be associated with the BJP party.

The arrested persons have been identified as Ibrahim Thomas, his wife Reena and one Babita. The three were trying to convert Sunita Arora, a local BJP leader, to Christianity. The incident came to the fore after Arora filed a complaint against the three and demanded strict punishment against them.

In the complaint, Arora stated that she was introduced to Thomas by her neighbour Babita. Thomas is a native of Kerala and works at the Kalwari Church. He, through Babita, called Arora to a parlour and tried to convince her to convert her religion to Christianity.

As per the reports, Thomas organizes religious ceremonies with the help of his wife to convince people of other religions to convert to Christianity. The three accused have been booked by the state police under the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Religious Conversion Act and sent to jail, confirmed Deputy Commissioner of Police (Trans Hindan) Vivek Chandra Yadav.

TV worth 30 lakhs, 20 luxury cars, 100 foreign breed dogs, and a luxury mansion: Read about Assistant Engineer Hema Meena whose monthly salary is 30k

On Thursday, May 11, the Lokayukta’s special police establishment (SPE) conducted a raid at the residential premises of Hema Meena, a female assistant engineer on contract with the Madhya Pradesh Police Housing Corporation (MPPHC) in a case of disproportionate assets.

The authorities seized documents regarding assets worth Rs 5 to Rs 7 crore from her possession and several other luxurious items, including a TV set costing Rs 30 lakh, 20 cars, including 10 luxury ones, and more than 100 foreign-breed dogs.

Hema Meena, the contractual engineer was earning a salary of Rs 30,000 while she accumulated all these assets. According to officials, she was found possessing assets that are 232% disproportionate to her current income. The authorities are now investigating her for allegedly accumulating assets that are disproportionate to her known source of income.

According to reports, the raid was carried out at Hema Meena’s farmhouse located in the Bilkhiriya area of Bhopal in connection with an inquiry being conducted based on a complaint regarding disproportionate assets lodged against Hema Meena in 2020.

The Lokyukta officials confirmed that Hema Meena’s sprawling farmhouse had 40 rooms.  The investigation revealed that her house was constructed at a cost of Rs 1 crore, registered under her father’s name, Ramswaroop Meena.

Roti-making machine worth Rs 2.5 lakhs also installed to make dog food

The farmhouse spread across 20,000 square feet of land was home to over 100 foreign breed pet dogs worth lakhs of rupees. It also contained 70 to 80 cows of different breeds. There were bathtubs for her pet dogs and a roti-making machine worth Rs 2.5 lakhs was also installed to feed her dogs.

The Lokayukta team, which also found bottles of foreign liquor inside her house, were reportedly quoted by Navbharat Times as saying that Hema Meena used to administer imported alcohol to her pet dogs as medicines.

Besides, agricultural equipment worth lakhs and cigarettes were also seized by the authorities.

The officers also revealed that Hema Meena used walkie-talkies to communicate with the staff at her residence, and a jammer had been installed there as well. The walkie-talkie has been seized by the Lokayukta police team.

Besides possessing 20,000 square feet of land in Bilkhiriya village in the Bhopal district of Madhya Pradesh, Meena also had lands in Raisen and Vidisha.

According to media reports, the team from the Lokayukta Special Police Establishment (SPE) conducted the raid clad in civilian outfits. They approached the bungalow but were stopped by the guards. The police pretended to be there to repair the solar panels. After bypassing the guards, the team entered the premises and confronted Hema in her home. They seized her phone and proceeded with the raid.

Lokayukta’s team has compiled a list of 450 goods seized from Hema Meena’s home

During the raid, the police made a list of items that were seized from Hema Meena’s house. The list included 450 items, including one smart TV set worth Rs 30 lakhs. The TV was not in use and was packed in a box. Apart from this, a 2.5 lakh worth roti-making machine, a high-end revolving chair, 12 water motors, a small crane, two trucks, one tanker, multiple ACs were also recovered from the engineer’s bungalow.

A fleet of 20 cars including 10 luxury vehicles like the Mahindra company’s Thar were also seen parked in a huge garage built inside the premises. The cars have also been seized by the authorities. The estimated price of these goods is approximately around 1.50 crores. The cost of more than 100 dogs and more than 60 cows is yet to be assessed.

The officials said that when questioned about the properties found in her name, Hema claimed that her father and brother had bought the land and donated it.

Who is Hema Meena

A divorcee, Hema Meena is a resident of Chapna village in Madhya Pradesh’s Raisen district. Hema Meena’s first appointment with the Police Housing Corporation was on December 28, 2010. She began working under this directive on January 1, 2011. However, on May 3 of the same year, she resigned from this position. Following that, she rejoined on February 22, 2013. She again quit in July 2015, after working for nearly a year and a half.

On November 24, 2016, she re-joined and in a year, she was promoted from the post of a sub-engineer to assistant engineer-in-charge of MPPHC. Hema Meena’s contract was set to expire in May 2022, however, it was extended to October 2023. She has now been fired after the officials unearthed assets worth 7 crores in the raid on the contractual engineer.

“Under my leadership, Congress got 135 seats,” DK Shivakumar says as he battles Siddaramaiah for the Karnataka CM post

0

As Congress is mulling over its chief ministerial choice after getting a thumping majority in Karnataka Assembly elections, party state president DK Shivakumar, an aspirant for the top post on Monday said that it is under his leadership that Congress got 135 seats in the state.

Addressing the media persons here, Shivakumar said, “It is my birthday today, I will meet my family. Afterward, I will leave for Delhi. Under my leadership, we have 135 MLAs, all in one voice, said that the matter (to appoint CM) is to be left to the party’s high command. My aim was to deliver Karnataka and I did it.”

“Congress high command called me and Siddaramaiah to Delhi. Sonia Gandhi, Kharge had given me the post of president. 135 seats have come under my presidency. When all MLAs left our party and we lost our government, I did not lose hope. I do not want to disclose what has happened in the last 5 years,” the Karnataka Congress chief added.

“I’m a single man, I believe in one thing that a single man with courage becomes a majority…When all our MLAs left the party (2019 JD(S)-Cong coalition govt), I didn’t lose my heart,” Shivakumar said before heading to Delhi for Karnataka CM talks.

Meanwhile, former chief minister Siddaramaiah has already arrived in Delhi on Monday to meet the top Congress leadership as the party engaged in the process of picking the next Karnataka CM.

Three central observers appointed by the All India Congress Committee (AICC) in Karnataka, arrived in Delhi on Monday to present their report to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on the question of appointing the chief minister of the State.

The observers Sushil Kumar Shinde, Deepak Bawaria, and Bhanwar Jitendra Singh were tasked with speaking to newly elected Congress MLAs on the election of the Congress Legislative Party (CLP) leader in Karnataka and subsequently to submit their report to the party’s high command. The three observers were appointed by Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge on Sunday.

Jitendra Singh said, “We have taken the views from all the MLAs, the meeting went on till 2 am (this morning). We have prepared a report and will submit it to the Congress president.”

Congress leader BK Hariprasad said that in yesterday’s CLP meeting, the voting was conducted through a secret ballot.

Earlier on Sunday late at night, Congress leader and All India Congress Committee (AICC) in-charge of Karnataka, Randeep Singh Surjewala, said that party chief Mallikarjun Kharge will not take long and announce the name of the next chief minister of Karnataka soon.

The meeting was convened after Congress Legislature Party (CLP) unanimously passed a resolution authorising party president Mallikarjun Kharge to pick the name of the Karnataka Chief Minister.

The meeting which began late on Sunday night at a hotel in Bengaluru, continued till 1.30 am. It was attended by all 135 newly elected MLAs.

Former Maharashtra chief minister Sushil Kumar Shinde and party leaders Jitendra Singh and Deepak Babaria were present in the meeting as observers. Party leaders like Siddaramaiah, DK Shivakumar, KC Venugopal, Jairam Ramesh, and others also attended the meeting.

A huge number of supporters gathered outside the residence of Karnataka Congress president DK Shivakumar in Bengaluru on Sunday and raised slogans of ‘We want DK Shivakumar as CM’.

Congress, which registered an emphatic victory defeating the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in results of the May 10 Karnataka Assembly elections released on Saturday, had been facing the challenge of deciding the chief minister amid speculations of Siddaramaiah being the front-runner followed by state party president DK Shivakumar.

According to the Election Commission of India, Congress won 135 seats pushing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) out of power in the only southern state it ruled and boosting its own prospects for the electoral battles ahead.

BJP managed to win 66 seats. Janata Dal-Secular (JDS) bagged 19 seats. Independents have won two seats while Kalyana Rajya Pragathi Paksha and Sarvodaya Karnataka Paksha won one seat each.

2023 Karnataka Election Results: NOTA defeats AAP in 130 constituencies, AAP Molakalmuru candidate gets ‘defeated’ by NOTA by 4,500 votes

On May 13, the results of the 2023 Karnataka Assembly Elections were announced. Arvind Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) had claimed they would secure notable votes in the elections. Free electricity was one of AAP’s top promises during election campaigns, which has worked well for the party in Delhi and Punjab. However, the voters of Karnataka did not buy AAP’s promises, and the party faced a significant loss in the state assembly elections.

During the analysis of the votes, OpIndia found that the party not only lost deposit on all 209 seats it contested but lost to NOTA in 130 constituencies. NOTA or None Of The Above option is available for the voters who do not wish to vote for any candidate listed. It managed to get more votes than NOTA only in 79 constituencies. That means AAP candidates get fewer votes on 62 per cent of seats than NOTA. If we talk about total votes, NOTA got 2,69,763 votes while AAP got 2,25,866 votes.

Afghan women start food takeaway service in a bid to bypass the Taliban’s prohibitions on female employment

0

In the face of Taliban prohibitions on employment, a group of Afghan women and girls in the province of Herat have established a kitchen and started a catering business to support themselves, TOLOnews reported.

They set up this kitchen in their home and offer food to their clients every day. “Women are banned from working out of the house, we planned to be at home and have activities, so we started making Afghan traditional food,” said the head of the kitchen, Manizha Sadat.

Several women and girls have repeatedly called out the de-facto authorities to provide them with work outside their houses, however, the Taliban has continued with its curbs on women in Afghanistan.

“We ask the government to support us and cooperate with us and allow us to work outside of our houses,” said Yalda Hashimi, a kitchen worker, according to TOLOnews.

Thousands of women have stayed at home since colleges and schools stopped accepting female students, and there are restrictions on the work that women and girls can do in local and international NGOs.

However, some women and girls have started working, such as by picking up trades or other commercial endeavours, in order to make money.

Since the Taliban regained power in August 2021 after the US exit from the country, women are not allowed to work in the fields of education with domestic and international organisations, in gyms, or in public spaces.

Taliban has rolled back a wide range of human rights of women and girls, including a ban on attending high school and university, and restrictions on movement and work.
