On May 16, Prime Minister Narendra Modi distributed 71,000 appointment letters to the new recruits at Rozgar Mela, which were held at 45 locations across the country. The recruitments are taking place for the departments of the Central and State Governments.

The selected recruits hail from different parts of the country. They will join positions including Gramin Dak Sevaks, Inspector of Posts, Commercial-cum-Ticket Clerk, Junior clerk-cum-Typist, Junior Accounts Clerk, Track Maintainer, Assistant Section Officer, Lower Division Clerk, Sub Divisional Officer, Tax Assistants, Assistant Enforcement Officer, Inspectors, Nursing Officers, Assistant Security Officers, Fireman, Assistant Accounts officer, Assistant Audit officer, Divisional Accountant, Auditor, Constable, Head Constable, Assistant Commandant, Principal, Trained Graduate Teacher, Assistant Registrar, Assistant Professor and more.

About Rozgar Mela

On October 22, 2022, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the first phase of the Rozgar Mela on the auspicious day of Dharteras. The campaign aimed to provide 10 lakh government jobs. Since its launch, multiple Rozgar Melas have been organised in Gujarat, Jammu and Kashmir, Maharashtra and other states. The government also launched a particular Karmaogi Prarambh module for online orientation courses for all new appointments in January 2023 when PM Modi handed over 71,000 appointment letters to the new recruits.

As per the Press Release during the launch, it will be a significant step towards fulfilling the Prime Minister’s continuous commitment to providing job opportunities for the youth and ensuring the welfare of citizens. Per the Prime Minister’s directions, all Ministries and Departments are working towards filling up existing vacancies against sanctioned posts in Mission Mode.

The new recruits, selected from across the country, will join 38 Ministries/Departments of the Government of India. The appointees will join the government at various levels, viz. Group – A, Group – B (Gazetted), Group – B (Non-Gazetted) and Group – C. The posts on which appointments are being made include Central Armed Force Personnel, Sub Inspector, Constable, LDC, Steno, PA, Income Tax Inspectors, and MTS, among others.

These recruitments are being done in mission mode by ministries and departments either by themselves or through recruiting agencies such as UPSC, SSC and Railway Recruitment Board. Selection processes have been simplified and made tech-enabled for expeditious recruitment.

PM Modi’s address at Rozgar Mela

In his address at Rozgar Mela, PM Modi said the entire process, from applying for recruitment to getting results, is now online. The interviews for recruitment in Group C and D are also abolished. These efforts have ended the recruitment process’s possibilities of corruption and nepotism.

He added that in the last nine years, the Government of India has spent about Rs 34 lakh crore on capital expenditure.

Speaking about Mudra Loans, Prime Minister said that the government has disbursed loans worth more than 23 lakh crores under the scheme which has helped the citizens in establishing new businesses, buying taxis or expanding their existing establishments. The Prime Minister also informed that approximately 8-9 crore citizens have become first-time entrepreneurs after availing of loans under the Mudra Yojana. “The Atmanirbhar Bharat campaign is based on the creation of employment through manufacturing in the country,” he added.

The rural road network has increased from 4 lakh KMs to 7.25 lakh kms. The number of airports has increased from 74 to 150. Notably, such expansion in infrastructure is essential in generating new opportunities for the youth in terms of jobs and businesses.

“In 2014, there were some 100 startups in the country, whereas today, their number has increased to 1 lakh. It is estimated that these startups have given employment to around 10 lakh youth,” he added.

PM Modi talked about industry and investment in his address. He said, “With regard to industry and investment, there’s a notable positive sentiment in India’s growth narrative.” He talked about the commitment made by Walmart of investment worth Rs 80,000 crore and plans of Cisco to export made-in-India goods worth 8,000 crores. Furthermore, he mentioned that Apple is exploring possibilities of mobile manufacturing in India. Foxconn has also begun channelling thousands of crores of investment in India.

The Rozgar Mela is a step towards the fulfilment of the commitment of the Prime Minister to accord the highest priority to employment generation. The initiative will act as a catalyst for further employment generation and provide meaningful opportunities to the youth.

The new recruits have an opportunity to get training via Karmayogi Prarambh, an online orientation course for all new appointments in the Government departments.

Since its launch, PM Modi has distributed 75,000 appointment letters on October 22, 71,000 appointment letters on November 22, 71,000 appointment letters on January 20, 71,000 appointment letters on April 11, and 71,000 appointment letters on May 16. Several Rozgar Melas were held at the state level as well. From November 2022 to today, 4,50,000 jobs have been given under Rozgar Yojana.

Congress in Karnataka might use 20% of state budget, an estimated sum of Rs 62,000 crore to provide the freebies it promised before elections: Reports

The Congress party’s significant victory against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Karnataka has emerged as the result of a variety of circumstances, but the freebies that the party provided to the populace may have tipped the scale in its favour.

Every female household head has been guaranteed Rs 2,000 per month by the Congress party, every unemployed diploma holder Rs 1,500 per month, and graduates Rs 3,000 per month. In accordance with the party’s pre-election promises, women would likewise be entitled to free transportation on state-run buses.

Every family will also get free electricity up to 200 units. These incentives come on top of already announced ones like the 500 litres of tax-free diesel per year for deep-sea fishing and the Rs 6,000 lean time allowance for all marine fishermen during the fishing break. Additionally, the party has said that it will create compost/manure facilities in villages with participation from rural women and youth and buy cow dung for Rs 3 per kg.

Some projections suggest that the annual cost of the cash payouts and electricity subsidies would be Rs. 62,000 crores, according to an ET report. The state budget will undoubtedly be impacted by this significant expenditure.

Further, it’s important to know what percentage of the state’s budget the giveaways would make up. Nearly 20% of the state budget is represented by the estimated sum of Rs 62,000 crore. The amount that might be used for significant giveaways is equal to the budget deficit from the preceding fiscal year. The fiscal deficit for 2022–23 was projected in Karnataka’s budget for 2023–24 to be Rs. 60,581 crores or 2.60% of the Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP).

However, according to Randeep Singh Surjewala, the AICC general secretary in charge of Karnataka, these pledges would not have a significant impact because they would not exceed 15% of the state budget. Additionally, he stated that an increase in budget size was anticipated during the following five years.

As per the reports, Karnataka has seen a significant increase in revenue. Budget with a revenue surplus was delivered by the departing BJP administration. Among large states, Karnataka has the greatest growth rate in GST collection. The revenue collection goal for 2022–23 was set at Rs. 72,000 crore, and by the end of January, revenue of Rs. 83,010 crore (excluding GST compensation) had been collected. This was 15% higher than what the budget had projected.

State borrowings, though, have been a source of concern.

According to the most recent budget, Karnataka’s total liabilities increased by more than 3.6 lakh crore over five years, reaching 5.6 lakh crore. At the present rate, it is predicted that Karnataka would borrow another 1.7 lakh crore in three years. By 2026–2027, the state’s overall debt will have increased by 30%, reaching an astounding Rs 7.3 lakh crore. The debt might be mitigated, though, as income is anticipated to increase at a rate of about 30% and reach Rs 2.9 lakh crore by 2026–2027.

At the present pace of increase in borrowings, the state may need Rs 35,090 crore in 2023–24, Rs 38,629 crore in 2024–25, and Rs 47,899 crore in 2025–26, according to remarks made in the winter session of the legislature in December. Additionally, the state will need at least Rs. 50,300 crore just for interest in 2026–2027 assuming the burden of interest also increases by 30% over the next three years while keeping everything else equal.

Even if Karnataka’s economy is predicted to expand in the next years, paying the substantial giveaways, which total Rs 62,000 crore, would still be a problem. The state budget will be influenced by the Congress’ second election pledge to create 10 lakh jobs and fill 2.5 lakh openings in all government ministries, which would increase the state’s salary expenses.

The state’s power industry may not fare well despite the Congress’s pledge to supply free electricity. Karnataka has an energy surplus, but the industry is suffering. As per the reports from February of this year, the five electrical supply firms have lost a total of Rs 14,401 crore, of which Rs 4,581 crore was incurred this year.

The debt accumulation is worsening the issue further. The total liabilities of electricity supply firms was Rs 20,250 crore in February. The failure of supply businesses to make payments to power producing and transmission firms like Karnataka Power Corporation Ltd (KPCL) and Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Ltd (KPTCL) has had a domino effect. The total outstanding owed to these companies stands at Rs 16,722 crore. And as of December 31, 2022, the combined debt load for all businesses, including KPCL and KPTCL, is a startling Rs 72,114 crore.

Government agencies, panchayat raj and rural development organisations, as well as urban local authorities, are the major defaulters. They still owe Rs. 8,363 crore in debt. In order to pay for welfare programmes like Bhagyajyothi and free electricity for irrigation pump sets, the government itself owes Rs 8,584 crore.

On Saturday, the results of the high-voltage assembly state elections in Karnataka were announced. The Congress emerged as the single-largest party with 135 seats, well past the majority mark, to form a government in the state. The BJP came a distant second with 66 seats, while the JD(S) was third with 19 seats in the 224-seat Legislative Assembly.

Taking responsibility for the debacle as trends showed Bharatiya Janata Party losing the southern state, Karnataka’s outgoing Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Saturday said that there are multiple reasons for the defeat and the party will find out all of them. Bommai who himself won with a whooping margin of 35978 votes from the Shiggaon constituency, said, “I take responsibility for this debacle. There are multiple reasons for this. We will find out all the reasons and strengthen the party once again for Parliament elections.”

He said that the party will take the verdict in its ‘stride’.

South Delhi school evacuated after bomb threat, search underway

Panic gripped a school in the national capital after it received a bomb threat on Tuesday morning via e-mail, informed Delhi Police officials.

Soon after receiving the information, Delhi Police and other teams rushed to Pushp Vihar’s Amrita School and conducted a thorough search operation.

“A thorough checking of the school has been done through Bomb Disposal Team (BDT) but nothing was found,” said DCP South Chandan Chowdhary. As per the Delhi Police, an investigation is underway.

Earlier on May 12, a bomb threat was received at Delhi Public School, Mathura Road, but turned out to be a hoax after the police found nothing “suspicious”, an official said.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast) Rajesh Deo, information was received yesterday regarding a bomb threat e-mail received by DPS Mathura Road.

“Police and Bomb Disposal Squad reached the school. Later it was found that the e-mail was sent by a student. 2 Bomb Disposal teams along with dogs and local staff manually searched the school but nothing suspicious was found, it was a hoax call,” he added.

According to the official, after reaching the school, “Police checked the computer system/mail of school, wherein it was found the said mail was received on Thursday around at 6:17 p.m. From the technical investigation, we came to know that the said email address belongs to a student, who denied sending the mail,” said the official.

SGPC honours parents of man who shot a woman dead for drinking alcohol inside Gurudwara complex, crowd showers flower petals on him

On Sunday, May 14, a woman was shot dead inside the Dukhniwaran Sahib Gurdwara complex in Patiala. She was shot dead outside the manager’s office in the complex. The woman was reportedly under the influence of alcohol and was also consuming the same near the sarovar inside the complex.

The accused shooter was identified as Nirmaljit Singh Saini, a resident of Urban Estate, Patiala. He shot 5 bullets at the woman, leaving her in a pool of blood.

The Shiromani Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) honored Saini’s parents with a “siropa” – a robe of honour – at their residence in Patiala. Jaskaran Singh from SGPC’s media team tweeted, “Parents of Nirmaljit Singh Saini, honored with siropa (rob of honor) by Giani Pritpal Singh, head granthi Gurdwara Dukhnivaran Sahib, Patiala, accompanied by SGPC members Jarnail Singh Kartarpur and Satwinder Singh Tohra.”

Earlier, members of various Sikh bodies reached the court complex where Nirmaljit Singh Saini was produced by police after his arrest and greeted him by showering flower petals when he was later escorted out by police after being remanded to judicial custody.

Meanwhile, talking about the incident, SGPC president Harjinder Singh Dhami said, “Anti-Sikh forces are targeting gurdwaras with a deliberate conspiracy and the government was a silent spectator. The act of drinking inside the gurdwara was a conspiracy.”

Woman shot dead inside Patiala Gurudwara complex

On Sunday, May 14, a woman was shot dead inside the Dukhniwaran Sahib Gurdwara complex in Patiala. Inittially the victim was identified as Parminder Kaur but her brother and mother who claimed the body said that her real name is Kulwinder Kaur.

She was being taken to the manager’s room after onlookers inside the complex complained about her consuming alcohol inside the Gurudwara complex. However, before she could get inside the room or before the police could be informed, one of the onlookers opened fire and killed her on the spot.

A prescription from a drug de-addiction center was found in her belongings.

“She was undergoing treatment for alcohol addiction at Adarsh Hospital, Patiala. The doctor has written that she was having mood swings, was under depression and had frequent negative thoughts,” the Patiala SSP said.

Bill SB403 and the ‘liberal’ ecosystem: An equivalent of ‘wajib-ul-qatl’, here is the payoff that ‘liberals’ seek by masking caste an issue in the US

The so-called anti-caste discrimination legislation is making its way through the Californian state legislature. The latest news is that the state Senate has approved it and next is approval by the assembly which should be a cakewalk in a liberal state. A liberal Governor will then take a call. No prizes for guessing which way.

A lot of hand wringing and breast beating is going on among sections of the Hindu community over this bill. I do respect both sides – the ones championing it and the ones opposing it. Obviously, at least some among the former have genuine concerns driving them and similarly, the latter is driven by a genuine fear of side effects. And the real intentions of the proponents.

However, every time a Hindu or Hindu organisation says something against the bill, the left liberals must be chuckling in delight and rubbing their palms or back-slapping each other. As if George Soros will give another $1m to their NGO or PAC to spend on Chianti or family. Why? Because they got you in the very trap they wanted you in. They are very happy to see you twist yourself into a pretzel opposing the move without sounding casteist while they happily throw abuse at you.

Instead, we must look carefully at the real motives of the fringe left and the bigger picture. We must separate the wheat from the chaff and the agendas of the manipulators and the manipulated.

Dalit groups are going along with the fringe left without realising the real agendas and objectives of the largely upper-caste Stalinist Indian left. Just as African Americans are forced to support the loony left-woke elite, which is mostly rich whites. A lot of damage will be done before realisation dawns. A few blacks (or Dalits and OBC) that challenge this powerful elite cabal are attacked as “Sarkari” or its American equivalent and face even more abuse than others.

Coming to the agendas of the Indian left that choreographs these moves, the key objective is the denial of the protective umbrella of being a minority to Hindus anywhere in the world – an intellectual equivalent of declaring them wajib-ul-qatl (or fit to be killed). The result is, anyone can commit any atrocity against Hindus, spin it as anti-Hindutva and the left-liberal establishment will provide support services. This trick was tried in London and now even Kashmiri terrorist groups are calling themselves “Anti-Hindutva fascists” to legitimise their murders and try to get liberal endorsements. Woke lingo has become the lingua franca of the jihadists and throat slitters.

While Hindus are denied minority rights simply because they are the majority here in India, Muslims enjoy protection as a minority everywhere even where they are majority simply because they are a minority in the West. Even the mildest genuine criticism is banned, blacked out or cancelled. Even on matters that concern human rights, women’s rights, LGBTQ, FGM etc., the left establishment will shut out anyone that comments. Even if it is done by well-meaning Muslims like Tarek Fatah (Om Shanti Fatah saheb, you were a brave hero!) trying to reform their own community.

The bizarre aspect of this protective umbrella is that even if Islamist groups commit atrocities where they ARE majority – such as ISIS crimes versus Yazidis, or Pakistan’s pogrom on its Hindu or Sikh minority, talking about them is banned by liberals as it would “offend” minority in North America!

Indian left’s anti-Hindu hate is now programmed into mainstream Western liberal SOPs.

What has this got to do with USA and the SB403?

Simple – kicking up a storm over caste and filling columns help them continue this illogical and inhuman policy of regarding Hindus as the “majority” even in communities where they are not and hence stay silent on any atrocities.

In addition to this, with the rise of woke left in the USA and the smell of dollars flowing from its powerful patron saints like George Soros driving agendas, the Indian left has recalibrated its position. Shrill anti-Americanism has been set aside in favour of woke priorities on pronouns etc (read my earlier article on Kavita Krishnan). Open worship of rapist savages, despots and mass murderers in the left pantheon has given way to pro-Ukraine noise and anti-Russian propaganda. “Amadher chairman” Xi Jinping may have been told, please wait while we make our moolah, we can get back to serving you later. In any case, the woke destruction of American social and corporate life and its competitiveness suits China.

As you very well know, to continue its dominance over economic and social affairs, the largely white elite left of the US (and other Western countries) has adopted meaningless verbiage and pointless symbolism as a powerful weapon. California left is also driving a move to provide reparations for all black residents! You can safely bet not a cent will be paid – just a lot of noise and media coverage. That’s enough.

Yet another objective behind this BLM, caste, reparations empty noise is to use them as levers to take control of media including social media and effectively censor any non-left voice of their choosing. Just declare them as “hate” and ban them. No other explanation or proof needs to be provided. This is how Twitter was run by the left Gestapo. It is exactly what Stalin, Mao or PolPot did only updated with the latest woke rhetoric. This cancel culture and dictatorship in universities, media etc. has reached crazy heights and is being challenged but it is a long battle.

This is the political and cultural landscape in which SB403 is being pushed and by now it should be obvious as to why.

By cleverly shifting the narrative to caste, they are killing many birds with one stone – shut you up and not let you talk about Hinduphobia. Putting you on the defensive. Monopolising the victim card. Making their own silent approval of anti-Hindu atrocities, be it rapes and forced conversions in Pakistan or grooming in London a non-issue and a sin to discuss. More importantly, split the Hindus so that we will be attacking each other presenting an easier target and not tackling common community issues.

It is exactly this trap that Hindus risk falling in by raising their voice against SB403. It is exactly why I said this is exactly what they want you to do! Now that’s four exactly in one para!

As I mentioned earlier, this pointless virtue signalling will amount to nothing of value.

Of course, this lead to a lot of frivolous lawsuits and abuse of process – much like what is happening in India. A lot of the ambulance chasers in the legal fraternity will now start chasing Indian Americans to see if the caste issue can be worked into any lawsuit so they can get 50% or whatever it is of a much higher amount. Let us ignore that for now.

If you think carefully, American laws already ban discrimination and have put in place a lot of things to make sure it is implemented. And given the unique mix of races, religions and cultures in the US, the laws are wide enough. There is really no need to ban caste discrimination because it is not as if it was allowed earlier. Just as there is no need for separate racial discrimination laws for various shades of skin colour – yellow, brown, dark brown etc. Or brown vs black or yellow versus brown. It’s all there. If you doubt me, just go ahead, be my guest and try to be a violator!

In fact, you can read the “anti-discrimination” verbiage that corporates put in their websites, hiring ads or other marketing collateral, you will find practically every form of discrimination imaginable is worked in – other than not liking Yanni’s music perhaps. After all high price lawyers draft these things.

I am not trying to trivialise the experience of a few Indians that may have faced such discrimination in the US. Obviously, I am not supporting such hate. All discrimination is bad. All I am saying is, this new “law” is completely pointless, at least in the US. It may make sense, in, say, China or Japan where tough anti-discrimination laws probably don’t exist. Moreover, American corporates have “lawyered up” and evolved defence mechanisms to handle such laws.

Even in the most “Indianised” of the American corporate sector – IT and big tech, the number of Indians is minuscule as a percentage. I am not referring to Indian companies like TCS with branches there. If you are a low caste Indian employee of, say, Google, your chances of bad treatment at the hands of fellow Indians, that too for caste, will remain low or statistically meaningless – and to repeat, even before such laws, you had recourse anyway.

If big tech wants to sack a lower caste Hindu for being unproductive or whatever, they will not ask Mr. Iyer or Dubey to do it. They can easily put together a team of Chinese, Blacks or Hispanics to review the work and do exactly that to get around the law. They have all learned to live with such virtue signalling do-good laws which abound in the US. Why do you think each company is stampeding the other to pander to woke narratives on pronouns, BLM and Ukraine? It takes a few cents to change your web page, a few thousand dollars to hire a consultant to make your SOPs “compliant”. This law will just add one more item to that check list. Life goes on.

Unlike Indian institutions like IITs where caste discrimination can be a real issue, in the US our student population is just one among dozens of races and cultures. Hence the chances are not only far lower, but existing remedial mechanisms should also more than suffice.

The entire payoff for the liberals is only when we Hindus get over-excited and start fighting each other. Then they can easily make THAT news and not the killings in Pakistan or the hate in London or the beheadings in India, which they facilitate through their silence or obfuscation.

As filmmakers say movie shadow banned due to govt ‘alert’, Tamil Nadu govt claims in SC that theatres stopped screening ‘The Kerala Story’ voluntarily

On Monday (May 15), the Tamil Nadu government claimed before the Supreme Court of India that there is no ban on the screening of the movie ‘The Kerala Story’ in the State.

In its affidavit, the State alleged that theatre owners had chosen to not screen the film on their own accord due to ‘poor response’ to the film.

The Tamil Nadu government noted, “The theatre owners had voluntarily stopped screening the film on May 7th onwards due to poor performance of actors/ poor response to the movie or lack of well-known actors in the movie.”

It filed the reply before the apex court in response to a petition filed by the movie makers about the ‘shadow ban’ of ‘The Kerala Story’ in Tamil Nadu. The makers of the film have accused the Tamil Nadu government of issuing an alert in anticipation of protests against the movie.

According to them, the ‘alert’ led to theatres stopping the screening of ‘The Kerala Story.’ The Tamil Nadu government, however, dubbed the allegations as ‘false’ and claimed that the film was initially released in 19 multiplexes.

“Over 965 police personnel including 25 DSPs were posted for the protection of the 21 movie theatres which had screened the film,” it said in its affidavit. The government also said that the movie makers did not produce any document that could prove that the State stopped ‘The Kerala Story’ from being screened.

It claimed that the theatre owners stopped the screening of the movie despite the government providing them ample security.

The Kerala Story not to be screened in Tamil Nadu amidst protests

Opindia had earlier reported how multiplex theatres decided to drop ‘The Kerala Story’ citing the law and order situation. The development came after Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) chief Seeman and his supporters staged protests against the screening of the film in the Anna Nagar Arch near Skywalk Mall in Chennai.

The police apprehended NTK cadres following a protest inside a theatre, opposing the screening of The Kerala Story. Seeman had claimed that The Kerala Story was made to denigrate Muslims and portray Muslims as terrorists.

Earlier on May 4, a Public Interest Litigation raising an objection to the theatrical release of the multilingual film ‘The Kerala Story’ was rejected by the Madras High Court.

After noting that the Kerala High Court and the Supreme Court had previously addressed the matter of the release of the movie, the vacation bench of Justices AD Jagadish Chandira and C Saravanan rejected the PIL filed by a Chennai-based journalist BR Aravindakshan.

The movie ‘The Kerala Story‘ revolves around the tragic reality of ISIS brides, with the lead actor Adah Sharma playing the role of one Shalini Unnikrishnan, who is brainwashed by her Muslim friends and gets converted to Islam. She later travels to ISIS (Islamic State of Iraq and Syria) also known as IS (Islamic State) controlled area with her spouse.

Punjab: Two days after AAP wins Jalandhar LS by-poll, Bhagwant Mann government increases electricity tariff across the board

On May 15, just two days after Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) registered a thumping victory in the Jalandhar Lok Sabha by-poll, the Bhagwant Mann-led Punjab Government increased the power tariff for all categories. Opposition parties have slammed the government’s decision and called it the “first gift” by the state government after winning the by-poll.

After three years, the Punjab State Electricity Regulatory Commission (PSERC) increased the tariff. An increase of 8.64 per cent has been announced for this year. PSERC has increased fixed charges as well. The average cost per unit is now Rs 7.04 compared to Rs 6.48 per unit earlier. Notably, compared to neighbour states, including Haryana and Himachal Pradesh, the consumers of Punjab pay anywhere between Re 1.01 to Rs 0.39 more per unit.

‘State will bear the cost of tariff change’ – Bhagwant Mann

Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said in a statement that the revised tariff would not put pressure on the consumers and the government would bear the cost for domestic and agriculture consumers. In a tweet in Punjabi, he said, “The government will bear the cost of the increase in electricity rates, it will not be a burden on the common people.”

In the 2023-24 budget, the state government set aside Rs 20,243 crore for power subsidy. With the new tariff in place, the subsidy will be increased to Rs 21,162. Agriculture consumers will get an Rs 8,809 crore subsidy, domestic consumers will get a Rs 7,310 crore subsidy, and industrial consumers will get a Rs 2,530 crore subsidy.

Tariff changes for domestic consumers

Domestic consumers get 300 units free per month in the state. While it will continue with the new tariff, additional fixed charges of Rs 15 per KW and an average of 65 paise per unit hike have been introduced for domestic consumers. As per the new tariff, domestic consumers having load up to 2 KW will have to pay Rs 3.49 per unit to Rs 4.19 per unit for the first 100 units which is a 70 paise hike. From 101 to 300 units they have to pay Rs 6.64 per unit which is an 80 paise hike. For 301 units and above, the consumers will pay Rs 7.75 per unit which is a 45 paise hike.

Tariff change for religious places

Tariffs for Golden Temple and Durgiana Temple have been created by 30 paise per unit. These shrines were paying Rs 6.11 per unit after crossing the 2,000-unit mark. Now they will pay Rs 6.41 per unit.

Tariff change for agriculture consumers

For agriculture consumers, the price per unit of electricity has been increased by 90 paise. However, they do not get any bill for the electricity consumption. That means the increased price will put the state under more financial pressure.

Tariff change for industrial consumers

The fixed charges for industrial consumers have been increased by Rs 25-30. The per unit price of electricity has been increased by 90 paise.

Reacting to the hike SAD Chief Sukhbir Singh Badal said, “Reward? Revenge? or Repayment? AAP govt repays Punjabis within 48 hours for its Jalandhar bypoll win with a back-breaking power tariff hike. 300 units free power scheme effectively dismantled as state government is in no position to repay PSPCL for this facility.”

Reports suggest that the increase in tariff has been introduced to meet the annual revenue requirement of the Punjab State Power Corporation Ltd. Several factors have increased the production cost, including higher prices for coal imports, increased rate of short-term power purchase from power exchange and normal inflation.

The new tariff will come into effect from May 16 as the model code of conduct was in force in view of the by-poll. The new tariff generally comes into force on April 1 every year.

Disney’s Aladdin, Mena Massoud, deactivates his Twitter account after being attacked over his comment on potential earnings of ‘The Little Mermaid’

0

The ‘Aladdin’ fame actor Mena Massoud found himself in trouble after commenting on the potential earnings of Halle Bailey starrer ‘The Little Mermaid’. The backlash resulted in Mena deactivating his social media handle.

According to People Magazine, Massoud replied to a tweet on Saturday, that reflected the Box-Office projections forecast for ‘The Little Mermaid’ movie that lead to such retaliation from the netizens.

His tweet read, “Our film was unique in that audiences went to watch it multiple times. It’s the only way we reached the billion-dollar mark with our opening. My guess is TLM doesn’t cross the billion mark but will undoubtedly get a sequel.”

The comparison triggered a counterblast from the ‘The Little Mermaid’ fans. A user replied “And what exactly did u gain from commenting on this?”. Another added, “I’m honestly still confused as to why Mena Massoud tweeted this in the first place.”

In order to take down the comparative comment a user referred to Mena not bagging any role even after the mammoth success of actor Will Smith led ‘Aladdin’. The user wrote, “I don’t understand why Mena Massoud felt the need to put down #TheLittleMermaid when black Twitter showed up for him after he cried about being unemployed even after he did Aladdin,” as reported by People.

Disney productions ‘The Little Mermaid’ was earlier in headlines regarding makers facing criticism for casting Halley as the lead for the movie.

The movie opens in theatres on May 26, 2023.

Prayagraj police issue lookout notice against Atiq Ahmed’s wife Shaista Parveen, Guddu Muslim and Sabir: Details

0

Prayagraj police have issued lookout notices against slain gangster Atiq Ahmed’s wife Shaista Parveen, and his close aides, Guddu Muslim and Sabir, officials said.

According to officials, Uttar Pradesh police have already declared a bounty of Rs 50,000 in the name of Shaista Parveen. Despite efforts, the police are not able to trace Parveen and the other two. In such a situation, officials are of the view that they may run out of the country.

This, in turn, has prompted authorities to issue lookout notices against all three of them. Officials said that Prayagraj Police had earlier sent its report in this regard to the Uttar Pradesh government.

And on the basis of this, a lookout notice has been issued against them to prevent them from leaving the country. The notice period will be for 1 year.

The lookout notice has been sent to all immigration checkpoints, and if they are caught while trying to flee out of the country, Prayagraj police will receive an alert from the agencies concerned.

On April 9, the UP police doubled the reward on Shaista Parveen, slain gangster Atiq Ahmed’s wife. She carries a Rs 50,000 reward on her. UP police on April 19 conducted raids in Uttar Pradesh’s Kaushambi in search of Shaista.

According to the police, search operations are still underway in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj and nearby localities. With the killing of Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashraf and also the death of Atiq’s son Azad Ahmed in an encounter with the STF on April 13, Shaista has been on the run ever since.

Dr Akhlaq Ahmed is currently lodged in Prayagraj’s Naini Jail. He was posted at Bhavanpur Community Health Center in Meerut. Dr Akhlaq Ahmed is accused of providing explosives to absconding shooters and sheltering Guddu Muslim after the murder of Umesh Pal in Prayagraj.

Sachin Pilot threatens his own government in Rajasthan, says if his demands are not men, he will launch an ‘andolan’: His demands and what happened

Issuing a stern warning to his own government led by Ashok Gehlot, Congress leader Sachin Pilot on Monday categorically stated that if his demands are not met by the “end of this month” then he will launch “andolan” (movement) to compel the state government to act.

The former Deputy CM has put forward three demands – action against corruption charges on the previous BJP government, disbandment and reconstitution of the Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC) and its reconstitution, and compensation for those affected by the paper leaks – and demanded action by the end of this month. Addressing the people on the last day of the ‘Jan Sangharsh Yatra’, Pilot said, “Today is the last day of our ‘Jan Sangharsh Yatra’ is ending. But I want to say that all the three demands of ours should be met”.

Stating that the people are his only ‘capital’, the Congress leader said that he will carry out an ‘andolan’ across the state in case his demands are not met.
“This time I did an ‘anshan’ in a ‘Gandhiwaadi’ manner. But, if our demands are not met by the end of this month, I will hold an ‘andolan’ along with the public in the entire state. We will walk through the streets, towns and villages along with the people. We will continue to raise the issues of the public and fight for their justice,” he said.

Pilot added, “We don’t have anything of our own. We just wore the shoes and started the yatra. I didn’t even had any expectations of who will come in the yatra. But, people turned up in huge numbers on such short notice. Now, the only capital that we have is the public. Along with them, we will do the ‘andolan’, we will reach every corner of the state and bring justice”.

Pilot had started his yatra on May 11 to protest against the inaction of the Rajasthan government in the alleged corruption cases during the previous Vasundhara Raje-led BJP government in the State.

Assembly polls are scheduled to be held in Rajasthan later this year and the Congress party is seeking another term ahead of the crucial Lok Sabha polls in 2024.

When asked about the unity in the Rajasthan Congress in view of upcoming State polls, Pilot said, “Neither do I hurl allegations at anyone nor do I have any rift with anyone on an individual level.”

Earlier on Sunday, he said that he has been receiving the support of the people as the issues he had raised are “essential”.

Pilot who has been vocal about the “inaction” by the Ashok Gehlot-led Rajasthan government regarding the alleged corruption during the previous BJP government in the State, said that he and the Chief Minister have to fight “unitedly” against corruption, however, alleged that Gehlot has not taken steps in this regard.

“We are getting people’s support because our issues are essential. The chief minister is the face of the state and CM Ashok Gehlot and I will have to unitedly fight against cases of corruption. But the Chief Minister has not taken any action I have been writing letters for a long time to take action against issues of corruption,” Pilot told ANI on the fourth day of his yatra.

He added, “We need to change the entire system and make it transparent as paper leak is a serious issue and needs to be resolved. Middle-class suffers the most because of corruption and the allegations we had put on the Bommai-led government have proved to be right and this is why people have voted for us in Karnataka.
