Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and officials embezzled $400 million received from USA by purchasing cheaper Russian fuel, claims journalist Seymour Hersh

According to Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Seymour Hersh, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky embezzled $400 million last year that the US had allotted Ukraine for the purchase of fuel. Hersh claimed that Zelensky has made millions by buying cheaper Russian fuel instead of purchasing from approved sources.

He wrote, “The Ukraine government, headed by Volodymyr Zelensky, has been using American taxpayers’ funds to pay dearly for the vitally needed diesel fuel that is keeping the Ukrainian army on the move in its war with Russia. It is unknown how much the Zelensky government is paying per gallon for the fuel, but the Pentagon was paying as much as $400 per gallon to transport gasoline from a port in Pakistan, via truck or parachute, into Afghanistan during the decades-long American war there,” on his website.

He claimed that instead of purchasing fuel via the Pakistani port, the Ukrainian president has been purchasing fuel from Russia, a country with which both Ukraine and the United States are at war and that the latter and numerous members of his entourage had been syphoning off huge sums from the American dollars set aside for payments for diesel fuel. By purchasing cheaper Russian oil, Zelensky and his associates are pocketing the balance amount received from the USA, according to Seymour Hersh.

“One estimate by analysts from the Central Intelligence Agency put the embezzled funds at $400 million last year, at least; another expert compared the level of corruption in Kyiv (or Kiev, Ukraine’s capital) as approaching that of the Afghan war, although there will be no professional audit reports emerging from Ukraine,” he revealed.

He claimed to have received information from an informed American intelligence official who stated, “Zelensky’s been buying discount diesel from the Russians. And who’s paying for the gas and oil? We are. Putin and his oligarchs are making millions on it.”

He was informed that many government agencies in Kyiv had been competing to establish front businesses for export deals for guns and ammunition with independent arms dealers across the world, all of whom offered kickbacks. Many of those businesses are located in Poland and the Czech Republic, while some may also be found in Israel and the Persian Gulf.

An American expert on international trade disclosed to him, “I wouldn’t be surprised to learn that there are others in places like the Cayman Islands and Panama, and there are lots of Americans involved.”

During a meeting with CIA Director William Burns in January in Kyiv, the topic of corruption was specifically brought up with the Ukrainian President. An intelligence official with firsthand knowledge of the encounter informed the journalist that his message to Volodymyr Zelensky was straight out of a 1950s gangster film.

“The senior generals and government officials in Kyiv were angry at what they saw as Zelensky’s greed, so Burns told the Ukrainian president, because he was taking a larger share of the skim money than was going to the generals.” he unveiled.

“Burns also presented Zelensky with a list of thirty-five generals and senior officials whose corruption was known to the CIA and others in the American government. Zelensky responded to the American pressure ten days later by publicly dismissing ten of the most ostentatious officials on the list and doing little else,” he added.

The ten people he fired were boasting openly about their wealth and cruising about Kyiv in their new Mercedes, the intelligence official divulged to Seymour Hersh.

Atiq Ahmed’s son Asad, killed in a police encounter, was to marry his aunt’s daughter this year; preparations were delayed after Umesh Pal’s murder

On Thursday, April 13, Asad Ahmed, the son of gangster turned politician Atiq Ahmed, was killed in an encounter with the Uttar Pradesh police Special Task Force. Now reports have emerged that, the 19-year-old Asad Ahmed, who was wanted in the Umesh Pal murder case, was engaged to his cousin Mantasha and planned to marry her this year in Meerut.

Mantasha is the daughter of Atiq Ahmed’s sister Ayesha Noori and brother-in-law Akhlaq Ahmed, who are also co-accused in the Umesh Pal murder case.

As per reports, Asad and Mantasha were engaged and the preparations for their marriage, which was fixed for this year, were in full swing. However, after Umesh Pal’s murder, everything changed for both families. The date had to be postponed.

Reportedly, Akhlaq Ahmed visited Atiq Ahmed in Sabarmati Jail in Gujarat to seek his approval for the marriage. However, later, Akhlaq was also arrested on charges of sheltering the assailants in the Umesh Pal murder case and sent to jail. Ayesha Noori also fled with her other two daughters, putting the marriage in jeopardy.

It may be recalled that UP’s Prayagraj Police probing the Umesh Pal murder case had in a joint operation with the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) arrested Atiq Ahmed’s brother-in-law, Akhlaq Ahmed, in connection with the Umesh Pal murder case on April 2, 2023. The police revealed that Atiq Ahmad’s brother-in-law, Akhlaq Ahmad, was not only involved in the conspiracy to kill lawyer Umesh Pal but also financed the shooters of the lawyer.

In fact, several meetings were held at Akhlaq’s house to execute the sensational murder. The most wanted assailant, Guddu Muslim, who threw crude bombs during the Umesh Pal shootout, also took shelter in Akhlaq’shouse in Meerut for around 18 hours on March 5.

A CCTV footage that emerged showed that Akhlaq’s family members welcomed Guddu Muslim while Akhlaq and his son Shadab hugged him.

Shadab took Guddu into one of the rooms in the house. Police officials said after staying at Akhlaq’s residence for 18 hours, Guddu Muslim took a bus to Delhi on March 6 night. He arrived at Akhlaq’s home with a bag and a mobile phone, which was switched off. Akhlaq also gave Rs 50,000 to Guddu Muslim allegedly at the behest of Atiq Ahmed.

According to media reports, the police have registered an FIR against 18 people in the Umesh Pal murder case including dreaded gangster turned politician Atiq Ahmed. Most of these people belong to Atiq’s family. Apart from Atiq, his wife Shaista Parveen, brother Ashraf Ahmed, five sons including Asad, sister Ayesha, brother-in-law Dr Akhlaq, Guddu Muslim, Shadakat, Armaan, Vijay Chaudhary alias Usman, Mohammad Ghulam, Arbaz, Sabir, Kais Ahmed, Arshad Katra, Niyaz, Iqbal Ahmed, Shahrukh and some unknown people are among the accused.

So far, four accused in Umesh Pal’s murder namely Atiq’s third son Asad, shooter Usman, Arbaaz, and Mohammad Ghulam have been killed in police encounters. Additionally, the authorities employed bulldozers to demolish the premises of the accused, who are said to be close associates of gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmed. Bulldozers were also utilised at the home of Mohammad Ghulam, who was also killed in the encounter with UP Police STF, yesterday.

Hyderabad doctor operates on the wrong leg of a patient, medical council suspends licence for six months

The Telangana State Medical Council has suspended the medical licence of a private physician for operating on a patient’s healthy right leg instead of the left leg. The Hyderabad-based orthopaedic surgeon whose license has been suspended by the Council has been identified as Karan M. Patil.

According to the reports, the incident happened at a hospital in the ECIL area in Hyderabad, where Dr Karan M. Patil was to perform surgery on the left leg of a patient. But he operated on the healthy right leg instead. The error was detected two days later, after which the doctor operated on the left limb.

The action was taken after the District Medical and Health Officer (DMHO) received a complaint from the victim. The Medical Council concluded after an inquiry that the doctor had been negligent. The doctor’s licence has been suspended for six months, according to a decision made on Thursday by Council Chairman V. Rajalingam.

In another instance, the Council gave a private physician in the Mancherial district of Telangana, a three-month licence suspension after he failed to send a Dengue patient to a better hospital, which ultimately led to the patient’s demise. Family members of the patient had complained to the district collector that Doctor Ch. Srikanth had delayed sending them to a hospital with better facilities, which led to the patient’s death.

The Medical Council opened an inquiry based on the district collector’s report and decided to suspend the doctor’s licence for three months. The Council has requested that the two physicians turn over their licences. However, the medical professionals have 60 days to challenge the ban.

‘While there is stiff opposition over Amul’s entry in Karnataka, Nandini is selling its products in Kerala’: Kerala Milk Federation chairman

0

On Thursday, Kerala Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (KCMMF), also known by the brand name Milma, expressed grave concern regarding the propensity of some State milk marketing federations of entering markets outside of their respective state. The KCMMF claimed that the action violated the cooperative ethos on which the country’s dairy industry has been set up for the betterment of millions of milk farmers.

“Of late, there has been a growing tendency on the part of some of the State milk marketing federations to market their staple products outside their respective domain. This grossly violates the federal principles and cooperative spirit based on which the country’s dairy cooperative movement has been built and nurtured by pioneers like Tribhuvandas Patel and Verghese Kurien,” Milma Chairman K.S. Mani was quoted as saying to the Hindu.

Mani stated that Amul’s (Gujarat Milk Cooperative Federation) initiative to advertise its staple goods in Karnataka has encountered stiff opposition from state competitors but the Karnataka Milk Marketing Federation has lately opened its stores to sell its Nandini brand of milk and other goods in several areas of Kerala. “This is a highly unethical practice which defeats the very purpose of India’s dairy movement and will harm the interests of the farmers,” he said.

He cautioned that, unless the Union and State governments worked together to develop a consensus, the tendency would result in unhealthy rivalry among the States.

Mani meanwhile also stated that the cross-border marketing of liquid milk shall be avoided as per the agreements and business relations existing among milk cooperatives. If not, it would amount to blatant encroachment of the market area of the respective state, he said. As opined by Mani, the spirit of cooperative values, which have been fostered for a long time by mutual consent and goodwill, will be jeopardised by such behaviours from any side.

Mani advised avoiding the propensity to create sales locations or recruit franchisees in order to reach areas outside of one’s area of expertise. “Initially, they sell only value-added products, then start selling liquid milk also and subsequently begin shop-to-shop distribution of milk. Eventually, they will seek to capture markets outside their area, taking advantage of the State-to-State variations in price and production cost,” he said.

Milma distributes 83% of its revenue to dairy farmers through the cooperative societies in its network, despite the fact that Kerala’s input costs for the dairy industry are significantly greater than those in other states. Additionally, as the welfare of the dairy farmers is its main priority, the majority of Milma’s surplus is handed to the farmers as additional incentives on milk prices and subsidies on cow feed.

Given these realistic facts, it is advisable for dairy cooperative federations of different States to avoid opening sales outlets or setting up franchisee agreements to sell liquid milk and other basic goods beyond their respective states, Mani remarked.

The milk saga began on April 5 after Amul’s official Twitter handle posted an infographic about its entry into Karnataka. The Congress in the state of Karnataka, ahead of the state assembly elections grabbed the opportunity to spread misleading information concerning Amul’s acquisition of the state’s local dairy brand Nandini. The matter escalated and grew into a full-fledged controversy and then Congress started milking it further for political gains.

While the Congress leader and former Karnataka Chief Minister, Siddaramaiah attempted to inflame regional tensions among Karnataka voters before the state elections using the Amul-Nandini controversy, he probably forgot that Amul had already expanded its footprints in the state when he was at the helm of affairs in 2017. As reported earlier, Amul entered Karnataka in 2017 when the Congress was in power in the state and Siddaramaiah himself was the CM.

The incumbent Chief Minister of Karnataka Basavaraj Bommai on Saturday however clarified that his government had taken all kinds of measures to make Nandini number one at the national level. Calling the house brand Nandini the pride of Karnataka Bommai said, “Nandini’s market reach is wide, there is no need to fear Amul. Congress politicising everything is not in the interest of the state.”

He also stated that Karnataka was also going to other states and marketing and that the state will do all required to put Amul behind in the competition.

India expresses concern to the United Kingdom on misuse of its asylum status by pro-Khalistanis and economic offenders

India has raised an alarm over pro-Khalistani forces misusing the United Kingdom’s asylum status. The Pro-Khalistani elements have been supporting and aiding the terrorist activities in India.

A statement released by the Ministry of Home Affairs said, “the Indian side specifically conveyed its concerns on the misuse of UK’s asylum status by the Pro-Khalistani elements to aid and abet terrorist activities in India and requested better cooperation with UK and increased monitoring of UK based Pro-Khalistan Extremists and take appropriate proactive action. India’s concerns over the breach of security of Indian High Commission were also emphasized.” The statement was issued after the 5th India-UK Home Affairs Dialogue held in Delhi on Wednesday.

The Home Ministry further said, “During the meeting both sides reviewed the ongoing cooperation and identified further steps that can be taken to explore opportunities and synergies in advancing cooperation in counter-terrorism, cyber security & global supply chains, drug trafficking, migration, extradition, anti-India activities in UK including Pro-Khalistan Extremism among other issues.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also had a telephonic conversation with UK PM Rishi Sunak yesterday, in which PM Modi raised the issue of the attack on the Indian High Commission in London and economic offenders in India getting asylum in the UK. PM Modi raised the issue of the security of Indian diplomatic establishments in the UK and called for strong action against anti-India elements by the UK Government. PM Rishi Sunak conveyed that the UK considers the attack on Indian High Commission totally unacceptable and assured of the security of the Indian Mission and its personnel.

PM Modi also raised the issue of economic offenders who have sought refuge in the UK. He sought progress on the return of these fugitives so that they can appear before the Indian judicial system.

The two leaders reviewed the progress on a number of bilateral issues as part of the India-UK Roadmap 2030. They expressed satisfaction at the recent high-level exchanges and growing cooperation, particularly in trade and economic sectors. They agreed on the need for an early conclusion of a mutually beneficial Free Trade Agreement between the two countries.

India has also advised the UK to keep an eye out for pro-Khalistani fanatics and to take the necessary preventive measures. The worry expressed by India over the security lapse at the Indian High Commission in London was also highlighted.

Both parties reviewed their current cooperation during the meeting and discussed next steps that could be taken to look into opportunities and collaborations in advancing cooperation in the fight against terrorism, cyber security, global supply chains, drug trafficking, migration, extradition, and anti-Indian activities.

Union Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla headed the delegation from India, and Permanent Secretary of the Home Office Sir Matthew Rycroft led the delegation that had come from the United Kingdom. The meeting was also attended by other senior officials of both nations.

India and the UK both expressed pleasure with the current relationship and decided to strengthen their relationship as well as keep the door open for more intensive security collaboration between the two nations.

India meanwhile reiterated to the UK that it was worried about the pro-Khalistani subversives operating there and advocated for strict observation and preventive action against them. After the Indian High Commission was stormed by a gang of pro-Khalistan protestors last month, India summoned a top British ambassador to Delhi to demand an explanation.

Earlier, Sangrur MP Simranjit Singh Mann had admitted that he had given letters to asylum seekers for permanent residency in other countries. He claimed to have issued 50,000 such letters for approx Rs 35,000 per letter. Mann’s name appeared in the case in June 2022 after the asylum seeker racket was busted in Canada and the United States in June 2022. The letters were issued by Simranjit Singh Mann, who is the chief of the political party Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar), portraying them as ‘victims of state persecution’.

USA: Over 18000 cows killed in a massive explosion at Texas dairy farm

On Tuesday, April 11, as many as 18000 cows were killed after a fire began following a blast at the South Fork Dairy farm in Dimmitt in Texas. According to reports, the cows were huddled together in a holding pen, waiting to be milked, when the explosion occurred. The incident has marked the deadliest barn fire on record in the USA.

The Castro County Sheriff’s Office took to Facebook to share images of flames rushing through a facility and into holding pens. According to the Sheriff’s office, firefighters rescued one person who was trapped inside the burning building.

The source of the fire is still unknown, and the farm’s owners have yet to comment on the occurrence.

Locals reported hearing a huge boom and seeing massive pillars of smoke for kilometres, the Independent reported citing KFDA News Channel 10. The black smoke could be seen for kilometres and even from nearby towns. “It was crazy,” Dimmitt resident Kennedy Cleraman told KFDA. “There was a big, massive, black air and it looked like fog in the street. And it was all burnt- the place.”

Sheriff Sal Rivera told local news source KFDA that the majority of the livestock perished when the fire moved to an area where cows were confined before being taken to a milking facility and then into a holding enclosure.

“There’s some that survived,” he was quoted as saying. “There’s some that are probably injured to the point where they’ll have to be destroyed.”

Rivera told KFDA that investigators believed the fire might have started with a machine referred to as a “honey badger”, which he described as a “vacuum that sucks the manure and water out”.

“Possibly it got overheated and probably the methane and things like that ignited and spread out and exploded,” he said.

South Fork Dairy Farm is located in Castro County, one of Texas’s highest dairy-producing counties. According to Texas’ 2021 Annual Dairy Review, Castro County has more than 30,000 cattle. The occurrence is the largest single-incident livestock death since the Animal Welfare Institute, an animal advocacy group, began documenting barn fires.

TDP leader files police complaint against a dog for tearing poster of Andhra CM Jagan Mohan Reddy

The complaint was ‘sarcastically’ filed in Vijayawada by one Dasari Udayasree after a viral video showed a dog removing Reddy’s poster, which was stuck on a house wall.

She along with other TDP workers demanded strict action against the dog for allegedly insulting the State’s Chief Minister, who also heads the YSR Congress party.

Udayasree told local media that the animal has ‘hurt’ the sentiments of 6 crore people in Andhra Pradesh by tearing Reddy’s poster. “We have requested the police to arrest the dog and those behind the dog who insulted our beloved chief minister,” she was quoted as saying.

Harry Potter books to be adapted into 10-year-long OTT series: HBO and JK Rowling get on board with Warner Bros

For the fans of Potterverse who always lamented that the movies ‘miss too much’, there is finally some good news. Following the enormous success of the Harry Potter film series, Harry Potter and his friends are coming back to life on the small screen in a new decade-long television series.

The Harry Potter TV series is officially a go at Max, the streaming service formerly known as HBO Max. However, details on the cast, writers and showrunner are yet to be announced.

In a presentation on Wednesday, the CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, David Zaslav, unveiled the new service, which combines the original HBO Max with Discovery+ and features the tentpole series based on JK Rowling’s books.

According to a statement from the newly rebranded Max, the live-action series, based on all seven of the series’ books released between 1997 and 2007, would last ten seasons and be made with the same epic skill, love, and care as this worldwide phenomenon is popular for.

“The series will feature a new cast to lead a new generation of fandom, full of the fantastic detail, much-loved characters and dramatic locations that Harry Potter fans have loved for over 25 years,” it read.

The original films will remain at the core of the franchise. “Each season will be authentic to the original books and bring Harry Potter and these incredible adventures to new audiences around the world, while the original, classic and beloved films will remain at the core of the franchise and available to watch globally,” the letter assured.

Ruth Kenley-Letts, Neil Blair, and JK Rowling will all serve as executive producers for the show. Additionally, David Heyman, who served as executive producer on all eight of the Harry Potter movies (which were released between 2001 and 2011), is also in talks to executive produce.

“We are delighted to give audiences the opportunity to discover Hogwarts in a whole new way,” remarked Casey Bloys, the chairman and CEO of HBO and Max Content.

“Harry Potter is a cultural phenomenon and it is clear there is such an enduring love and thirst for the Wizarding World. In partnership with Warner Bros Television and JK Rowling, this new Max Original series will dive deep into each of the iconic books that fans have continued to enjoy for all of these years,” he noted.

The author of one of the most successful books in history, JK Rowling commented, “Max’s commitment to preserving the integrity of my books is important to me, and I’m looking forward to being part of this new adaptation which will allow for a degree of depth and detail only afforded by a long-form television series.”

Fans of the Potter universe were anticipating the possibility of a TV series, which has been in development since at least 2021. The value of the Harry Potter universe as a whole, encompassing books, movies, theatre shows, and video games, and merchandise, is valued at $25 billion (£20 billion). Interestingly, some transgender activists who hate JK Rowling for her views on women’s rights and term her as a ‘transphobe’, have declared that they will oppose the Harry Potter series.

‘Take action against anti-India elements, expedite the extradition of fugitives’: PM Modi tells Rishi Sunak

Three weeks after pro-Khalistani elements desecrated the Indian tricolour at the Indian High Commission in London, and attacked the building, Prime Minister Narendra Modi sought action against anti-India elements during a telephonic meeting with his UK counterpart Rishi Sunak on Thursday (April 13).

As per reports, PM Modi has called for strong action against anti-India elements and protection of Indian diplomatic establishments in the UK. Rishi Sunak has condemned the attack on Indian High Commission in London and assured his Indian counterpart of the security of the Indian Mission.

The Indian Prime Minister also sought an expedited response from the UK in the extradition of fugitives such as Vijay Mallya and Nirav Modi. The two leaders also talked about the need for a mutually beneficial ‘Free Trade Agreement’ between India and the UK.

In a tweet, PM Modi informed, “We reviewed progress on a number of issues to further strengthen India-UK Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, including FTA.”

He further added, “We also agreed on the need to take strong action against anti-India elements and to ensure the security of Indian diplomatic establishments in the UK. We also discussed the issue of economic offenders.” PM Modi and Rishi Sunak also shared greetings on the eve of Baisakhi.

Indian High Commission in London faces attacks from Khalistanis

On March 19 evening, pro-Khalistani elements barged into the Indian High Commission in London and removed the tricolour from the premises.

A mob of Khalistanis could be seen staging a protest outside the Indian High Commission. Amidst chants of ‘Khalistan Zindabad’, a man sporting an orange turban was seen scaling the walls of the building and pulling down the Indian flag.

He then waved the Khalistani flag jubilantly while Indian officials at the building seized the tricolour from the man. Some of the Khalistanis were also spotted holding a poster of ‘fugitive’ Amritpal Singh.

Even after assurances from the London Metropolitan Police about raising the level of protection for the Indian High Commission, pro-Khalistan supporters on March 22 breached the security cover and threw eggs and inks to deface and vandalize the building.

The police had deployed forces in 24 buses as well as the mounted police, however, the Khalistanis were still successful in vandalizing and defacing the premises.

Asad Ahmed changed his location between Kanpur and 3 other places before final encounter: more details of ‘Operation Jhansi’ emerge

A day after Asad Ahmed was gunned down by a Special Task Force (STF) of the Uttar Pradesh police, it has now come to light that he was frequently changing his location between Kanpur, Prayagraj, Delhi and Noida.

Asad Ahmed, the main accused in the murder of Umesh Pal, was reportedly staying in Jhansi for 4 days prior to his encounter. He also took refuge in Jamia for 12 days.

Ahmed was helped by his local accomplices, who ferried him between different locations. The Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF), comprising 12 personnel from Noida, Praygraj and Lucknow, was formed to nab him.

The operation was led by DSP Vimal and DSP Navendu and continued for 45 days, culminating in the encounter of Ahmed. As per reports, the police had an informer associated with the gang of the deceased gangster, who gave details about his exact location.

At the time of the encounter, Asad Ahmed was reportedly in disguise. A total of 42 rounds were fired during the confrontation between the police and the gangster. The cops had also recovered British Bulldog Revolver .455 bore and Walther P88 7.63 bore pistol from Ahmed and his aide.

It has also come to light that UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took regular updates on the police operation and whereabouts of the accused in the Umesh Pal murder case.

Prashant Kumar, Special Director General, Law and Order, Uttar Pradesh Police, had earlier informed that Asad Ahmed was planning to break his father Atiq Ahmed out of police custody. For this, he was also planning to attack the police convoy.

He wanted to execute his plans when Atiq Ahmed was being brought to UP for court hearings, the SDGP said. Meanwhile, the Samajwadi party and liberals have claimed that the encounter was fake and sought a probe into the matter
