As in US, so in India: Antifa in India glorifies Naxalism, advocates violence against Sanghis and engages in genocidal rhetoric

Donald Trump has declared that the USA will designate Antifa as a terrorist organisation. The US President took the decision following large-scale riots, where stores were looted, people were attacked and buildings were set on fire. Antifa is short for ‘anti-fascists’. While numerous people believe anyone who does not endorse fascism is ‘antifa’, in reality, the word has a very specific meaning. It is of great concern now that Antifa India is a thing as well.

Antifa is just a fancy name for 21st Century communists. It is an umbrella term used to denote far-left political ‘activists’, who often employ violent rhetoric to achieve their political objectives. Like their Soviet and Chinese counterparts, these radicals are not fond of freedom of expression and have effectively shut down free speech in universities across the USA. It is also pertinent to note that it is almost entirely an urban phenomenon.

As it so happens, Antifa has been gaining popularity in India as well. Given recent developments, we decided to pour through their social media accounts in order to decipher their ideology. We learnt that Antifa India is not really different from their American counterparts. They advocate violence for the purpose of achieving their ideological objectives and often glorify Naxalism. It will not be far-fetched to assert that Antifa India isthe name ‘Urban Naxals’ have taken for themselves.

On Facebook, there is a page with the name ‘Antifa India’. We are not aware who runs the page but the content makes the political inclinations of the administrators abundantly clear. The page shared a post by another page called ‘Philosophical Rona Dhona in Desi Cinema’ which compared the riots in the USA to Naxalism and cheered for it. The page that originally shared the content might have a funny name but that is by design.

Antifa India has also been sharing posts from other pages that glorify the riots in the USA. The far-left radicals are calling these riots where countless individuals have suffered enormous damage to their property a ‘rebellion’.

Antifa India believes the riots in the USA are a 'rebellion'.
Antifa India is celebrating the riots in the USA

It is not just celebratory posts that this particular page makes. In the past, they have advocated violent protests as well. Days after the Delhi Riots, Antifa India said that Candle Light vigils were good but not as good as vigils with Molotov cocktails. Molotov Cocktails are a crude device which consists of a bottle filled with inflammable liquid and with a means to ignite it.

Antifa India does not stop there. It advocates violence against ‘Sanghis’. By Sanghis, it means basically anyone and everyone that they do not agree with, not necessarily members of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh. As the recent riots in the USA demonstrated, when the Antifa organised the riots, everyone suffered regardless of their race, class or gender. It is foolish to assume that their violence will be directed against only ‘Sanghis’.

Antifa India also cheered for Maharashtra Cabinet Minister Jitendra Awhad from the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) when his goons brutally attacked an individual for posting an offensive post on social media. According to them, Awhad is a ‘good anti-fascist’ and there is ‘absolutely no need’ to apologise for ‘punching Sanghi fascists’.

Antifa India has also shared memes saying that they wish to die while fighting a guerrilla war against the state. While the West can afford to take such things lightly, India has been fighting a war with the Naxals for decades and terrorism in Kashmir as well. India is not in a position where it can afford to ignore such matters. Moreover, people can afford to consider it as just funny memes but given their propensity for violence, they do so at their own risk.

Antifa India has also made incendiary comments on Facebook such as, “As the working class seizes power, the sanghi ceases to exist.” The implications of the words are quite clear. It is implied that ‘Sanghis’ will be slaughtered en masse once Antifa manages to get hold of the Indian State. Given their advocacy for violent protests and violence against ‘Sanghis’, there is really no other way to interpret it.

Antifa India also lent it support to Sharjeel Imam, the Radical Islamist who incited Muslims to cut off North East India from the rest of the country. Sharjeel Imam is currently languishing in jail after he was arrested by authorities.

It’s not just one Antifa page that exists on Facebook. There are other pages with similar names as well that share similar content. Glorification of Naxalism is mainstream in these circles. A page that calls itself ‘Antifascist India’ shared the speech by Vara Vara Rao where it was claimed that the naxal movement gave ‘self-respect’ to Dalits and Adivasis. Vara Vara rao was arrested in connection with the Elgar Parishad case in 2018 and is currently in jail.

Antifa pages operated from abroad are spreading Naxalite propaganda through social media as well. They are glorifying the Red terrorism as a ‘peasant revolution’ and are calling for people to join Naxalite outfits.

It’s not only on Facebook that Antifa accounts are operating in India. Reddit is a breeding ground for such extremist ideologies as well. One user on the subreddit r/IndianLeft asked, “Do you belive we are in need of an Antifa India?” (sic). The answers are to it are quite disturbing. Some users speak openly about organising for the purpose of ‘direct action’.

The words ‘direct action’ have a very specific meaning in the Indian context. It was Muhammad Ali Jinnah who gave a call for ‘Direct Action Day’ to establish the creation of a separate Islamic state after partitioning India. That words such as ‘direct action’ are being thrown about so openly is a matter of utmost concern. It is equivalent to someone calling for a pogrom against Jews in Germany.

In the thread, users are discussing means to organise. They speak of organising through social media platforms through Discord, Telegram and other such groups. Apart from Reddit, there is also ‘Antifa India Music’ on YouTube, with quite a lot of views, which often abuse the Prime Minister in the vilest of terms.

Thus, it is clear that Antifa India is hardly any different from Antifa in the United States. While Antifa in the US are running riot across the country, Antifa in India is glorifying Naxalism. In India, they are trying to organise a ‘rebellion’ against the Indian State. They are operating in multiple platforms in order to inculcate individuals in their extremist ideology.

If Antifa India manages to organise successfully, then the end result will be the revival of Naxal terrorism in urban spaces. Their genocidal tendencies are evident from the posts they make on social media platforms. Antifa is as much an internationalist phenomenon in the 21st Century as Communism was in the 20th.

India cannot afford to take the threat of far-left terrorism lightly. ‘Activists’ associated with far-left group Pinjra Tod were accused by leftists themselves of inciting violence that led to the communal riots at the national capital in Delhi. A few of them have been arrested in connection with the matter. Thus, faced with such adversity, Eternal Vigilance is the only recourse.

Rajdeep Sardesai claims man died of starvation in UP’s Banda, DM gives the list of foodgrains provided to the family in the last two months

Journalist Rajdeep Sardesai posted a tweet on Monday claiming that hunger is stalking parts of Banda in Bundelkhand, Uttar Pradesh, and one of the folks with whom his colleague Mausami Singh spoke to for a new story had died, implying that his death was due to starvation.

A video was attached along with the tweet which showed the pre-funeral preparations being done, presumably by the family members of the man, who according to Rajdeep had died of hunger caused by the coronavirus lockdown. Rajdeep also alleged in his tweet that the government’s food aid had not been reaching the poorest families.

“Hunger is stalking parts of Banda in Bundelkhand once again in lockdown times..today, one of the people @mausamii2u spoke to for a story passed away..and to think that grain is rotting in godowns..when will government ‘packages’ reach the poorest families?” Rajdeep tweeted.

What Rajdeep insinuated through this tweet was that the government had failed in providing the food packages to the needy and the destitute and the coronavirus induced lockdown has wreaked havoc on them, causing deaths due to hunger while the grain is rotting away in godowns.

Banda DM fact-checks Sardesai

The District Magistrate of Banda took cognisance of Rajdeep’s tweet and responded claiming that the facts of the unfortunate death of the man were different then what Rajdeep alleged.

The DM informed that the deceased man-Rajkumar’s wife is a ration-card holder who had procured 20 kilograms of wheat and 15 kilograms of rice on April 1, 2020, 5 kgs of rice on April 17, 20 kgs of wheat and 15 kgs of rice on May 6 and then 5 kgs of rice and 1 kg of chickpeas on May 18, all free of cost under various government schemes. The District Magistrate said that the man died of prior illness and not because of hunger.

Sardesai shares video

However, Rajdeep responded back with the interview of the man which was conducted last week. The man in the video identifies himself as Rajkumar and claims that he has had no food in the last four days. He further alleges that his requirement is of 35 kilograms of ration but the government authorities have provided only 5 kilograms of rice for his family of 7-8 members.

“The problem is the lockdown. We can’t go anywhere. We are starving here from the last 4 days…there is nothing in my home. Nobody is helping us. The authorised ration-shop owners are only providing us with 5 kilograms of rice while we are a family of 7-8 people. We should be provided with at least 35 kilograms of ration but we are being given only 5 kilograms,” the man said.

MHA withdraws order to de-list foreign products in paramilitary canteens, revised list to be released soon

On Monday, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) had reportedly withdrawn an order issued on May 29 which de-listed around 1000 imported products from paramilitary canteens. Sources familiar with the matter told ANI that a revised order with an updated list of de-listed products would be released soon.

In a bid to promote indigenous products, the Union Home Ministry had earlier directed Kendriya Police Kalyan Bhandars (KPKB), the organisation that runs paramilitary canteens across India, to sell only Made in India products. KPKBs were asked to stop the sale of imported products. The organisation had also de-listed 7 firms that import foreign products such as Skechers, Ferrero, Red Bull, etc. These canteens also cater to the needs of the 50 lac family members of the 10 lac security personnel belonging to the BSF, NSG, Assam Rifles, CISF, and CRPF.

KPKB had also delisted products of companies that failed to provide the information sought by it. The organisation, while taking cognisance of the earlier MHA letter, had said that the directives by the government would be implemented in both letter and spirit.

Atmanirbhar Bharat

Earlier in May, Home Minister Amit Shah had taken to Twitter to state that in a bid to boost Atmanirbhar Bharat Abhiyan (self-reliant India mission), the paramilitary canteens will now sell only made in India products from 1 June. He further urged Indians to use more and more made in India products going forward. “If every Indian vows to use only made in India products, within five years Indian economy can become self-reliant,” he had said.

Prashant Bhushan calls Delhi Police “Dalla police” for arresting Pinjra Tod activist for riots during anti-CAA protests

Lawyer-activist Prashant Bhushan has taken to Twitter to criticise the Delhi police for arresting far-left group Pinjra Tod activist Devangana Kalita for the third time in a row. Sharing an article by the leftist propaganda media outlet, The Wire, Prashant Bhushan wrote: Dalla Police! Dil ki police? implicating that the “Dalla” (pimps) Delhi police are using their free will to do what they wish to.

Devangana Kalita has been booked under a fresh FIR (No. 250/19), charged with unlawful assembly and rioting at Daryaganj on December 20. She was arrested on May 30 (Saturday) by the Delhi crime branch and taken into police custody for three days at Daryaganj Police Station.

Pinjra Tod activists arrested in North-East Delhi riot case

Kalita was earlier arrested, along with fellow student Natasha Narwal, on May 23 for her presence at the Jaffrabad anti-Citizenship (Amendment) Act (CAA) protest and subsequently released on bail. Both the women are founding members of Pinjra Tod, which was established in 2015.

After being granted bail, she was re-arrested by the Delhi police in a separate case related to the violence that broke out in Delhi. The duo, Natasha Narwal and Devangana Kalita were rearrested by the Crime Branch and sent to two-days police custody.

It was found that on February 22 evening Pinjra Tod members had mobilised local residents for protesting against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and directed them to gather at Jaffrabad metro station.

Pinjra Tod has been accused of inciting riots

Some citizens of Seelampur, Jafrabad, and Trans-Yamuna had accused Pinjra Tod, a far-left women rights initiative, and other elite civil society groups of inciting riots in the national capital.

Pinjra Tod claims to be an autonomous collective of women students fighting for a just, accessible, non-discriminatory University and affordable accommodation and has been involved in numerous protests and campaigns of a far-left nature.

Delhi Police sent notice to Pinjra tod

Earlier, Delhi Police special cell had issued notice to 50 members of the Jamia coordination committee, former office bearers of Congress’ student’s union, National Student union of India, far left ‘activist’ group Pinjra Tod for their alleged connection with rioting and criminal conspiracy pertaining to anti-Hindu riots in north-east Delhi that had claimed the lives of 53 people and had left, over 400 injured.

It was earlier reported that police believed that Pinjra Tod activists were present in the Seelampur-Jafrabad area on February 22 evening and urged the anti-CAA protesters at the dharna site and other nearby areas to make their anti-CAA protest more impactful by creating a roadblock at the Jafrabad Metro station road. According to the report, it was this event that finally led to a show of strength from the other side and eventually, led to the Delhi riots.

Uttarakhand CM and all members of the State Cabinet home quarantined after Tourism Minister tests positive for Coronavirus

On Sunday, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat and other State cabinet ministers were reportedly put under home quarantine after Tourism Minister Satpal Maharaj tested positive for the Wuhan Coronavirus. The infected Minister had attended a cabinet meeting, called by CM Rawat, on Friday.

Maharaj was then admitted to AIIMS hospital in Rishikesh along with 5 other family members. According to the Public relations Officer (PRO) of the hospital, Harish Thapliyal, the minister’s wife Amrita Rawat too tested positive for the Chinese virus on Saturday. A total of 22 people including Maharaj’s family members and house staff were diagnosed with Coronavirus on Sunday. As such, 41 more people working at the Minister’s house were placed under quarantine. Their samples had been sent for testing.

After Satpal Maharaj was diagnosed with the Chinese virus, it raised alarm within the State Health Department and the political class. Amidst the Coronavirus scare, Cabinet Ministers decided to be home quarantined in accordance with the Central Government guidelines.

CM Rawat reassures people

Although there has been a sharp increase in the number of Coronavirus cases in the State, the Uttarakhand Chief Minister has assured that the trend will stop soon. Rawat attributed the rise in Coronavirus cases to the influx of migrant workers in Uttarakhand. He reiterated that the situation will be brought under control. According to the latest data released by the Union Health Ministry, Uttarakhand has 800 active cases of Coronavirus and has reported 5 fatalities. Around 102 infected patients had recovered from the deadly disease.

All Congress chief ministers concurred with PM Modi on measures taken by centre against coronavirus: Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma

Exposing the duplicitous nature of the Congress party, Health Minister of Assam and a senior BJP leader, Himanta Biswas Sarma, revealed on a Republic TV news debate that all the Congress chief ministers have sided with PM Modi and “fully concurred” with the measures taken by the Centre to battle the spread of the coronavirus in the country.

“As seen from the video-conferencing, all the Congress chief ministers, right after Captain Amarinder Singh to Puducherry CM to Rajasthan CM, in front of our own eyes have said we fully concur with the Prime Minister and whatever decision you are taking, we have full approval because at this time you are leading the nation correctly,” Sarma said.

However, Sarma’s revealing statements about the Congress CMs expressing their approval for PM Modi’s approach to getting a handle on the coronavirus crisis comes amidst the critical remarks made by senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi against the Modi government for apparently failing in taming the Wuhan coronavirus.

Rahul gandhi’s contradictory claims to criticise PM Modi on coronavirus lockdown

Recently, in his media briefing via video-conferencing, the former Congress President claimed that the lockdown announced by PM Modi on March 24 had failed. Gandhi made contradictory claims by first declaring the lockdown as a failure and then criticising PM Modi for lifting it.

Emphasising his point further, the Congress leader said there has been one lockdown after another, but that has failed in stopping the spread of the disease. However, it appears that the purpose of enforcing a lockdown to stem the rapid spread of the coronavirus was completely lost on Rahul Gandhi. The lockdown was not supposed to end the infection completely, it was supposed to slow the growth of the disease, and that has been achieved to a large extent. Nobody claimed that the emergence of new cases will stop due to the lockdown, as that is not possible with such a highly contagious virus like the Wuhan Coronavirus.

While Rahul Gandhi claimed that lockdown had failed to achieve its desired purpose, he also criticised the govt for relaxing it. He said that we are the only country where the virus is exponentially rising and we are removing the lockdown. Earlier too he had spoken against lockdown. In mid-April, he had said that lockdown can’t defeat coronavirus, but now he is criticising the Modi government for lifting lockdown. This is a complete change in position in just one month.

Earlier in May, the Wayanad MP had made false claims about the central government being unilateral in deciding the coronavirus zones in the country and attributed those lies to the Congress chief-ministers.

Casting aspersions about the efforts of the Union Government in containing the spread of the Wuhan Coronavirus, Rahul Gandhi claimed that the Chief Ministers of Congress-ruled States have informed him that the green zones are, in fact, red zones and vice versa.

However, a presser released by the MHA debunked the false claims made by the former Amethi MP. The press note said that the Ministry of Home Affairs had issued new guidelines to regulate different activities in this period, based on the risk profiling of the districts of the country into Red (hotspot), Green, and Orange Zones. The MHA circular clearly stated that the zones are decided as per feedback from districts. It also stated that weekly review of the zones will be conducted with state authorities regarding the classifications.

Sarma’s statement further exposes Congress’ duplicitous stand and attempts with regards to the pandemic to gain political mileage over the issue.

Pakistan’s new terror outfit ‘TRF’ threatens to kill all Indians who plan to settle in Kashmir and ‘change demography’

Pakistan’s new terror outfit ‘The Resistance Front’ (TRF) has threatened to kill all Indian civilians who are not from Kashmir and plan to settle in the valley.

Journalist Aarti Tikoo Singh shared the pamphlet of the terror outfit signed by the ‘Commander Hamza’ wherein the outfit alleges that while the terror outfit has a ‘strict policy’ of not intentionally harming any ‘non-combatant/civilian or any race, religion or ethnicity under any circumstance’, it will not be ‘deceived’ by the plot of the BJP. The leaflet claimed that the BJP and RSS is trying to change the demography of the valley and want to settle ‘RSS Fascists’ under the ‘garb of civilian cover’.

Hence, the terror group has openly declared that any non-Kashmiri who goes to Kashmir with an intention to settle there eventually will be treated as an ‘RSS agent’ and ‘not a civilian’ and be ‘dealt with appropriately’.

The Resistance Front – TRF, the new terror outfit of Pakistan

A report in Hindustan Times earlier this month suggested that the intelligence agencies have flagged the new Pakistan-based terror outfit is controlled by three top handlers of the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) in Pakistan. TRF was reportedly launched late last year after abrogation of Article 370 which made Jammu & Kashmir an integral part of India without any riders attached. According to Indian security officials, the Lashkar leaders formed the core of the group and handled from Pakistan. Sajad Jatt for South Kashmir, Khalid for Central Kashmir and Hanzala Adnan for North Kashmir were named in the security report, states HT.

Haryana’s Mewat has become a mini-Pakistan: Committee headed by former Justice Pawan Kumar on Muslim atrocities against Dalits

Former Justice Pawan Kumar, who headed an investigation team to probe the atrocities inflicted on Hindus and Dalits in Haryana’s Mewat today said that there is no difference between Pakistan and Mewat, as per the press release shared by VHP National spokesperson Vinod Bansal.

While addressing journalists in Gurugram, Justice Pawan Kumar remarked that Mewat of Haryana is becoming a graveyard of Dalits and there are many reports of women being abducted, raped and forcibly converted in the region.

Citing no action taken against the complaints filed by Dalits, Shri Valmiki Mahasabha of Haryana had decided to constitute a 4-member committee led by Justice Pawan Kumar to bring the reality of the atrocities committed against the Dalits to the fore.

Besides former justice Pawan Kumar, Sultan Valmiki(chairman of Valmiki Mahapanchayat Haryana), Shri Kanhaiya Lal Arya(Vice President Arya Pratinidhi Sabha Haryana) and Devdutt Sharma(President Bar Association Sohna) were appointed as members of the probe team constituted by the Shri Valmiki Mahasabha of Haryana.

The team claims that the horror and fear of Islamists among the victims is so palpable that only 19 out of the 48 victims of the Dalit society turned up to register their complaints against the brutalities meted out on them.

The findings of the team revealed that the molestation of girls and women has become pervasive all over Mewat which has caused problems for girls to continue their studies. “A 12-year girl was raped by 4 Muslims and the house where the rape took place was of one of the Muslim cops,” the press release said. No action has been taken against the perpetrators.

Furthermore, the statement also cited an instance from Freozpur Namak where 9 Muslims allegedly raped a woman for several days after forcibly abducting her. The press release stated that no action was taken against the complaint filed and the abductors killed the woman four days later.

Besides, more than 200 cases of forced conversions have allegedly taken place in the region, the team headed by former justice Pawan Kumar said. The committee also added that because of police inaction, the perpetrators have been emboldened and pressure is being mounted on the family members of those forcibly converted to get them converted as well.

“The cremation grounds are being encroached upon. Dalits were abducted and assaulted by Muslims. Attacks on Dalits asking for the refund of burrowed sum to the Muslims have become a common occurrence,” the release read.

The press release shared by Vinod Bansal also stated that Dalit weddings are also been attacked and looted. It added that there also have been instances where the brides have been kidnapped.

The committee concluded that the atrocities against Dalits can happen only in connivance with the administration and local police. Complaints of Dalit victims are not lodged. If somehow they persist with the complaint and file FIRs against the perpetrators, police pressurises the victims, compels them to strike a compromise with the assailants and threatens them of false cases.

Chairman of the committee, former justice Pawan Kumar said that the report will be sent to the chief minister of Haryana, to the chairman of scheduled castes commission of India and the Home Minister of India so that justice is delivered and rule of law can once again be established in Mewat.

Southwest monsoon hits Kerala; Cyclone Nisarga to hit Gujarat, Maharashtra coasts on 3rd

India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a statement declaring the onset of Southwest Monsoon over Kerala today. It is coinciding with its regular date. In the past two days, widespread rainfall was recorded over Kerala. As per the reports, over 70 per cent of the 14 rainfall monitoring stations for Monsoon onset in Kerala reported rainfall in the last two days.

IMD while informing about the Monsoon onset, said that the four-month-long Monsoon season accounts for 75 per cent of the overall rainfall. The rains will progress in the other parts of the country from June to September.

Skymet Weather announced Southwest Monsoon early

On 30th May 2020, a private forecaster Skymet Weather announced the onset of Southwest Monsoon in Kerala. However, IMD did not agree with the date and the reason was explained in the press release. IMD said that if 60 per cent of the available 14 stations that are Minicoy, Amini, Punalur, Thiruvananthapuram, Alapuzha, Kottayam, Kollam, Kochi, Thalassery, Kannur, Kudulu, Thrissur, Kozhikode and Mangalore report rainfall of 2.5 mm or more on two consecutive days then the onset of the Monsoon will be declared on the second day.

Cyclone Nisarga expected to cross South Gujarat and North Maharashtra coasts

On 3rd June, the South Coast of Gujarat and North Coast of Maharashtra may get hit by Cyclone Nisarga. Recently super cyclone Amphan has caused severe damage in West Bengal and Odisha. IMD has said that low-pressure area over the Arabian Sea has formed a depression on Monday morning. It will intensify into a Cyclonic storm and may hit coastal areas of Gujarat and Maharashtra.

IMD issued a red-colour coded warning on Sunday on Coastal Gujarat and Maharashtra. The fishermen were advised to return by Sunday and not to return till 4th June. IMD said that it would intensify further in cyclonic circulation in the next 24-hours.
